Fucking love how this song plays uninterrupted over the random battles. It's a deceptively simple yet incredibly effective way of keeping the story's momentum from dipping as you near its final moments.
+amalgam8 While, yes, some fights are guaranteed to appear in certain (obnoxious) locations, there ARE also random encounters. After all, if you ALT+TAB out while walking, you stay in the walking state, except completely stationary, yet you still trigger encounters.

+CommissarCake What amazes me is the thought that Final Froggit, Whimsalot, and Astigmatism are Froggit, Whimsun, and Loox that traveled all that way, coming ever closer to true maturation....Froggit finally knows why it's here. Whimsun isn't meek anymore. Loox is ready to face however people act toward it. I felt like they grew up along with me on this journey.
+XxGaleAlchemistxX Stuff like this makes me wish the capital was a playable area in the game. Imagine going against some of the later enemies in the game, like a Pyrope turning into a BindBurn, a Madjick turning into a Insage, or a Knight Night turning into a Koma King
You gotta love how the monsters here are incredibly strong. Froggit and Whinsum look like they've had their own fair share of adventures and have been through their own enlightenment. At first, Froggit and Whinsum where a bit...er, cowardly, considering they don't know what you, the human, are doing at first, but are flattered nonetheless. You can still joke-around with the enimies you encounter in CORE, but their replies tend to be more one-worded, as their more focused on attacking you than anything else. Bullet-paterns become much more hectic, and enimies not only appear tough, but are. They're certinly not there to play games with either. Whimsalot looks like a battle-hardened warrior, fighting for the sake of the Underground. Final Froggit becomes more thoughtful and aware of it's actions, and other enemies, such as Knight Night and Madjick seem like they've been on their own journey as well.
One thing i love about this game is that even though the enemies are still outlandish in a Final Fantasy sorta way, when you get to the core, the enemies become very serious, both in design and character. Yeah, they still have jokes and what not, but they're not bare bones or meant to be funny, these guys are a tad more serious about killing you. This guy managed to make these last enemies both serious and humorous, and i very much like how he did this. This is only rivaled by my opinion of the Kingdom Hearts enemy designs for Hollow Bastion. Just brilliant to me in every way. God, now i wanna play this again. Shit.
I feel like taking the path of the warrior is kinda funny on a pacifist run. Its like you are going in there to hug every random stranger you come across! Which I guess is ok, since we're a bunch of losers; but with BIG hearts!
This is the last thing Gaster heard before getting scattered through time and space...Wow, man. I'm jealous. But honestly, I love the fact that, while sharing its melody with Another Medium, it has a completely different feel to it. Another Medium really felt empty, showing how Hotland was a wasteland, its techno vibe reflected the fact that the area was very technological. The music was deep, and it made you slip into some trance, as you walked forward. It made you feel Hotland's heat and emptiness. Hotland felt long, but not because it was long-it felt like that because it was relaxing, entrancing, a bit like Waterfall, except Waterfall made you think "there was something there, long ago, now there are only the remnants of it". Hotland, on the other hand, felt like there never was anything here. It reflected the monsters' struggle to fill up the void in their lives. The same way they tried to fill up Hotland with technology, but it still was empty, they filled up the void in their hearts with puzzles, jokes and MTT's shows, but the void was merely covered up by them. Core, on the other hand, was energetic. It seemed that the electricity in the air is the same thing as the DETERMINATION in your soul. Your journey was nearly over. You almost danced through the halls. This place wasn't like anything that you ever witnessed, and the music only made you more curious, more hyped, more DETERMINED. You ran through lasers, you fled, spared, refused to fight. All the weird monsters here and all the weird ways to spare them. And, through it all, the music cheered you on. Don't give up. Go on. With every step, you're closer to the end. Core fled far too quickly, I was almost disappointed. I ran through it almost like something chased me, and it turned out that it was only the clock's hands. I couldn't be late! It was almost the time for the show. Whoa. That's the longest comment I've ever written. If you've read it all, you get a virtual cookie.

Definitely my favorite. It makes me imagine poor Frisk racing through the corridors, above pits of boiling lava, trying to outrun the hordes of monsters blocking his way and constantly fighting him. It really carries a sense of urgency now that the end of the trip seems so close
Honestly the CORE is over too soon but it’s still one of my favourite areas just from how fast paced the battles are. It really feels like you’re rushing through the core and with Alphys bailing on you it makes it so intense
SalThePiplup If I did, I must not have noticed it. I haven't played Chrono Trigger for a while and 2300 A.D. is kind of a small area, so I guess that's why. Well, that and I was too horrified by everything in the True Lab to feel any sort of vibe from that area.
It's true, 2300 A.D. is small (though no less emotionally-impacting for it). The main thing for me was the colour scheme and general fogginess/desolation. It really reminded me of the broken-down pods everyone lived in.
+Mary Guertena In my case, I got an Undersea Palace vibe with the design of this level. I like the fact the battle theme doesn't play here, giving the feel about "your adventure is coming to the end, keep it up!"
Now that you gotta me listening more intently, I just now noticed there's a glockenspiel that comes in at 2:08 to play a pattern while the piano is gone, so the song doesn't lose it's doubletime feel while the synths and violins play their long chords together. You can barely hear it too. There's a lot going on in this song you don't really notice on first pass, it's kinda amazing
My favorite song in the OST. Represents tension, anxiety, and has a really good beat. The low pitched sound that kicks in at the end of the song adds a lot as well. This song has a lot of foreboding in it. I like that.
Am I the only person who feel something very very deep at 1:01 ? Sorry but I can't describe this. It's a mix between nostalgia and hope. It's very powerful for me, I have already cry at this moment.
It's not that surprising. The melody in the background subtly hints at Megalovania, which (perhaps subconsciously, which is why you can't explain it) brings to mind both what's to come, and also the first song that you (and nearly everyone else on the Internet) heard and associated with Undertale before you even played the game.

I wish there was a undertake fan game where frisk died from undyne and the monster s are waging war on the humans and you play as a child on the humans side and have the choice of fighting or sparing the monsters you encounter during a attack on the monsters you accidentally stumbled into(papyrus isn't in the battle he just sets up better versions of his traps) and a remix of this plays during a sneak part of the game
It’s intense not because you’re nearing the end of the game, but because you’re actually in a deadly situation. Mettaton has hired mercenaries, you’re stuck in a re-arranging generator, trying to find your way to the elevator.
It's catchy because that's where mettaton does most of his shows i imagine, so it has that kind of cinema scenery and ambience, kinda like some of new pork city's buildings in Mother 3. It's intense because CORE is the final area before getting to New Home, the Final Corridor and Asgore. It's your last big trial before Asgore/Omega Flowey/Asriel/Sans and it's also where monsters get more serious to stop you.
I've seen a fair bunch of games take the whole internet by storm and rolled my eyes, but Undertale really is something special, I'm quite certain of it now. I still remember the days when it was one of the most obnoxious memes of 2016, when it seemed every trivial object was suddenly an Undertale reference according to comment sections... yet five years later, I can still look back at this and say "wow, this was a truly powerful experience rivaled by few". It's that kind of game that makes you chuckle, but also emotionally grapples you in more than one way. I've tended to avoid RPGs completely save for a few like Chrono Trigger and the Mother trilogy, but when a game like Undertale really channels its energy towards unleashing an uncontrollable gush of creativity to make itself its own thing, it can have that power to stick with _anyone_ no matter what genre it technically is. I'm just dropping by here to relay my congratulations to this game for attaining a solidified level of popularity I'm not sure anyone could have foreseen, as a number of other gems I know of have not ever been able to attain that fortune. It sure earned it!

Fun Fact: Final Froggit may have been a reference to the Final Starman from EarthBound (Toby really liked that game as a kid). Just like in EB, Final Froggit is weirdly spiky looking on all of its limbs and its attacks are way harder.

Every now and then I come back to the Undertale soundtrack, and it never fails to give me that first time feeling of hearing an amazing song over and over again, its timeless
+Flazar It's called a leitmotiv and it is a common practice in most soundtracks to link themes together. So no, it's not "disgusting" and it's not recycling since he changes each melody in a unique way.
The fact that this song plays even in battle, and that the enemies are really serious and for real about killing you to take your soul makes this just that little more epic
My head canon is that the monsters here have adapted their new forms as a result of multiple factors. The core powers the entire underground converting geothermal energy to power or magic, possibly even as a giant alchemical engine. And the Ruins monsters here are battle hardened as well, as they’ve seemingly been on their own adventure throughout the underground. It is plausible to assume they have adapted these new combat oriented forms as a result of both of these factors. Both from the surplus of vigor from the CORE, and from their own journeys of enlightenment.
This area still gives me chills. The overall design of the Core is such a pulse-riser, and it never ceases throughout the entire area. Really hammers in the feeling that this it, this is the final road in your journey.

This is the last thing Gaster heard before getting scattered through time and space...Wow, man. I'm jealous.
But honestly, I love the fact that, while sharing its melody with Another Medium, it has a completely different feel to it. Another Medium really felt empty, showing how Hotland was a wasteland, its techno vibe reflected the fact that the area was very technological. The music was deep, and it made you slip into some trance, as you walked forward. It made you feel Hotland's heat and emptiness. Hotland felt long, but not because it was long-it felt like that because it was relaxing, entrancing, a bit like Waterfall, except Waterfall made you think "there was something there, long ago, now there are only the remnants of it". Hotland, on the other hand, felt like there never was anything here. It reflected the monsters' struggle to fill up the void in their lives. The same way they tried to fill up Hotland with technology, but it still was empty, they filled up the void in their hearts with puzzles, jokes and MTT's shows, but the void was merely covered up by them.
Core, on the other hand, was energetic. It seemed that the electricity in the air is the same thing as the DETERMINATION in your soul. Your journey was nearly over. You almost danced through the halls. This place wasn't like anything that you ever witnessed, and the music only made you more curious, more hyped, more DETERMINED. You ran through lasers, you fled, spared, refused to fight. All the weird monsters here and all the weird ways to spare them. And, through it all, the music cheered you on. Don't give up. Go on. With every step, you're closer to the end. Core fled far too quickly, I was almost disappointed. I ran through it almost like something chased me, and it turned out that it was only the clock's hands. I couldn't be late! It was almost the time for the show.

Definitely my favorite. It makes me imagine poor Frisk racing through the corridors, above pits of boiling lava, trying to outrun the hordes of monsters blocking his way and constantly fighting him. It really carries a sense of urgency now that the end of the trip seems so close

Honestly the CORE is over too soon but it’s still one of my favourite areas just from how fast paced the battles are. It really feels like you’re rushing through the core and with Alphys bailing on you it makes it so intense

I haven't played Chrono Trigger for a while and 2300 A.D. is kind of a small area, so I guess that's why.
Well, that and I was too horrified by everything in the True Lab to feel any sort of vibe from that area.
It's true, 2300 A.D. is small (though no less emotionally-impacting for it). The main thing for me was the colour scheme and general fogginess/desolation. It really reminded me of the broken-down pods everyone lived in.

Now that you gotta me listening more intently, I just now noticed there's a glockenspiel that comes in at 2:08 to play a pattern while the piano is gone, so the song doesn't lose it's doubletime feel while the synths and violins play their long chords together. You can barely hear it too.

Represents tension, anxiety, and has a really good beat. The low pitched sound that kicks in at the end of the song adds a lot as well. This song has a lot of foreboding in it. I like that.
Am I the only person who feel something very very deep at 1:01 ? Sorry but I can't describe this. It's a mix between nostalgia and hope. It's very powerful for me, I have already cry at this moment.
It's not that surprising. The melody in the background subtly hints at Megalovania, which (perhaps subconsciously, which is why you can't explain it) brings to mind both what's to come, and also the first song that you (and nearly everyone else on the Internet) heard and associated with Undertale before you even played the game.

I wish there was a undertake fan game where frisk died from undyne and the monster s are waging war on the humans and you play as a child on the humans side and have the choice of fighting or sparing the monsters you encounter during a attack on the monsters you accidentally stumbled into(papyrus isn't in the battle he just sets up better versions of his traps) and a remix of this plays during a sneak part of the game

It's intense because it's the driving point to the end of the game, you're about to hit climax point - the song just intensifies that feeling.
It’s intense not because you’re nearing the end of the game, but because you’re actually in a deadly situation. Mettaton has hired mercenaries, you’re stuck in a re-arranging generator, trying to find your way to the elevator.

It's catchy because that's where mettaton does most of his shows i imagine, so it has that kind of cinema scenery and ambience, kinda like some of new pork city's buildings in Mother 3.
It's intense because CORE is the final area before getting to New Home, the Final Corridor and Asgore. It's your last big trial before Asgore/Omega Flowey/Asriel/Sans and it's also where monsters get more serious to stop you.

I've seen a fair bunch of games take the whole internet by storm and rolled my eyes, but Undertale really is something special, I'm quite certain of it now. I still remember the days when it was one of the most obnoxious memes of 2016, when it seemed every trivial object was suddenly an Undertale reference according to comment sections... yet five years later, I can still look back at this and say "wow, this was a truly powerful experience rivaled by few".
It's that kind of game that makes you chuckle, but also emotionally grapples you in more than one way. I've tended to avoid RPGs completely save for a few like Chrono Trigger and the Mother trilogy, but when a game like Undertale really channels its energy towards unleashing an uncontrollable gush of creativity to make itself its own thing, it can have that power to stick with _anyone_ no matter what genre it technically is.
I'm just dropping by here to relay my congratulations to this game for attaining a solidified level of popularity I'm not sure anyone could have foreseen, as a number of other gems I know of have not ever been able to attain that fortune. It sure earned it!

Fun Fact: Final Froggit may have been a reference to the Final Starman from EarthBound (Toby really liked that game as a kid). Just like in EB, Final Froggit is weirdly spiky looking on all of its limbs and its attacks are way harder.

the best part about this song is that you hear this when fighting monsters in the CORE.

The fact that this song plays even in battle, and that the enemies are really serious and for real about killing you to take your soul makes this just that little more epic
My head canon is that the monsters here have adapted their new forms as a result of multiple factors. The core powers the entire underground converting geothermal energy to power or magic, possibly even as a giant alchemical engine. And the Ruins monsters here are battle hardened as well, as they’ve seemingly been on their own adventure throughout the underground. It is plausible to assume they have adapted these new combat oriented forms as a result of both of these factors. Both from the surplus of vigor from the CORE, and from their own journeys of enlightenment.

Around 2015, I noticed a new song on spotify. It was labelled "CORE", and I had never heard of undertale at the time (keep in mind I was 7 and didn't keep up with trends). I loved this song so much, played it day in and day out.
My first experience with undertale, whether I was aware of it at the time or not.
