After the explosion, Boston sent trainloads of medical personnel and supplies to Halifax to aid in the recovery. Halifax was so grateful for the support that, to this day, they send a Christmas tree to Boston every year, as a thank you.

The "battleship," is a Corvette. It's role in WW2 was to protect the trans-Atlantic convoys. They're based on a type of fishing trawler. They were hell to sail in as it was said they "would roll on wet grass." They were also absolutely vital in getting supplies to Europe and Russia. HMCS (His Majesty's Canadian Ship) Sackville (just outside of Halifax) is the only war-time configured Corvette in the world. Donald Duck has nothing to do with children. Sailors would often personalize their ship in the same way pilots had nose art painted on their planes. Sackville is operated by the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust.
For what's worth: I'm a 60-year-old lifelong resident of Halifax & worked for 15 years as a tour guide in Halifax. I have never, ever, heard or read about a ghost ship in Halifax Harbour. I suspect you heard something about the Teazer Light. Young Teazer was an American schooner serving as a privateer during the War of 1812. She was sunk by a British ship in 1813 in Mahone Bay after her powder magazine erupted. Those who say they've seen it, describe seeing the fiery silhouette of a ship which quickly erupts into a ball of flame before vanishing. Mahone Bay is about a 90 min. drive southwest of Halifax.
    Oh, and it's not Nova Sco-sheeah. It's Nova Sco-sha. :)
Glad you enjoyed your time here.

I am from that area, but live in Manitoba. I was home visiting and was on the Halifax waterfront a few days before you were there. You saw a very tiny bit of our beautiful province. Please come back. 💕

We had a guided visit through the cemetary where some of the Titanic victims are buried on our New England cruise. It was incredibly moving and interesting.

As always an enjoyable and informative video - I hadn't realised how lovely Halifax was or how strategic it was in the past. It looked a really lovely place - and being on the very east of Canada, easy for us in the UK to access - another one for the very long list!

7:56 I've seen pictures of people dipping their toes in the harbor at Queens Landing in the summertime.

the fact you think that's the warmest it gets is only 75ish is so American. It reeaches like 100-110f in the summer here

😊 It sounds like Halifax really bring the heat in summer-guess we underestimated its sunny tropical side! Thanks for setting us straight, and no hard feelings to your hometown pride-it’s a beautiful place, no matter the temperature. 🌞

Having been born and raised here, Halifax is a shitshow. Everything is unaffordable, nothing downtown is open past like 7 unless it's a bar, and if you're anywhere near water you've gotta hold your breath because the harbour smells like an enema.

Do you actually live in halifax or just visit in the summer? The smell is universal in port towns

Are you sure? We’ve had locals describe Halifax as a paradise! It’s always fascinating how perspectives can vary so much. Our visit was short and lovely, it’s clear there’s more to Halifax then what you can see in 5 hours.

I second this. Halifax is falling apart. If you stay on the boardwalk it's quaint. If you go a couple km away you can see the tent cities, vacant units, the people strung out on Spring Garden, the patchwork of bandaid "fixes" to infrastructure, etc. Of course the people working on the waterfront are going to tell you it's perfect. They want you spending money, tipping, and talking your friends into doing the same. They obviously aren't going to tell tourists that nobody can afford rent, groceries, tens of thousands waiting for family doctors we can't recruit or retain, people dying in their driveways because the province doesn't have enough ambulances, years long waits for diagnostic imaging or specialist referrals, nurses and pharmacists forced to practice medicine, 12 people living in two bedroom apartments and sleeping in shifts to afford to live, some of the highest taxes and lowest wages in the country, the transit system that doesn't work, the 2 out of 3 water treatment plants that are broken and nobody has bothered to fix in over a year, and the list goes on. Keep visiting, we need the money desperately, but it's definitely a very broken city. I wouldn't live here if I had another option. As for the aroma, Halifax has a habit of dumping raw sewage in the harbour every few years due to infrastructure breakdown. They also have a habit of lying about water treatment until well after the municipal government knows about the issue. So while all harbours stink, Halifax has some extra rancid periods.

Haha, just don’t say that out loud in Halifax-they’re pretty proud of their city! 😉 But hey, not every place is for everyone, and that’s totally fine. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 😊
