Same.
Ditto.
lol yup
Same here lol
Haha me too, but I didn't know the prices of a 1 bedroom. I think that's expensive. Good thing I have a mortgage of 500 bucks a month
Don’t get drunk. Downtown roads are steep. You will fall down and roll into the sea.
Lol

Also we have “glove guy” who might try and pick you up 😂
Yep, and Halifax harbour is fucking NASTY

I moved to Halifax from Africa earlier this year and Haligonians are some of the most decent nicest folks you will find anywhere in the world. Halifax also offers the best balance of life and nature of any city I know of.
Welcome :) Glad to have you. I toss a coin to you.
Welcome to Nova Scotia
We are so happy that you choose to make Halifax home ♥️ our community would not be the same without lovely immigrant populations livening our culture and creating jobs and raising families. It really makes our city on of the best in Canada if not the world.
Thank you for choosing us and welcome!! ❤️
U in the right Halifax?
I lived in Halifax for a year as an international student from Japan. It was so precious experience. I love halifax.
Should have mentioned the 1% vacancies in houses, which is causing houses that are being sold to sell 30k above asking.
Not to mention the dismal rental options; overpriced or not worth the asking rental price.
Yeah, I agree he should have mentioned it. But at the same time, even houses being sold 30k above asking are still way lower than in other larger cities.
That's temporary housing markets fluctuate and it would date the video
@@loganoderkirk lol the housing market in halifax was inflated long before this video
These issues are in many cities unfortunately, where I live in Vancouver, it is completely insane.
I like that you mentioned the fact that many international students who graduate from University here end up staying. If it didn’t have a vibrant international community I probably wouldn’t have remained here so long. A lot of great Island, African, Latin & Middle Eastern people here bringing the sauce.
I would like to add to #7 - the culture is really just embodied in the people. I moved to Atlantic Canada 38 years ago, and in my opinion the beauty of the landscape plays second fiddle to the warmth of the people.
Angie bé zeza zeza bé gassen oui hobi UK bé zeza Angie hobi UK calme toi gassen oui hobi love you Angie belle famme bé gassen
I feel like the fact that Halifax has a considerably low vacancy rate, high rent etc needs to be addressed. If you have money then its no issue but if you are working your butt off and just making ends meet, I wouldn't recommend it.
People working to make ends meet realistically aren't in a position to consider moving to a new city. Halifax's cost of living compared to other major cities in Canada is very reasonable. It's also the central hub of Atlantic Canada so most companies HQs are in Halifax. Tons of great job opportunities in Halifax if you have the experience and expertise.
Ok poor boy juju
sorry no, this is what only local people think, try living in Vancouver or Toronto
@@amberanderson7153 ya that never happened to you lol
@@amberanderson7153 lol okay buddy. Either you are living in a whole different reality, or your self awareness of yourself is so poor that you don't realize you are just a fuckin skeet looking for an excuse to cause trouble. Based on your comment I tend to lean towards the latter

Halifax also has a fabulous new library.
Good job on keeping it real, and showing off our home town to the rest of the world with pride and excellence. Keep up the good work! 😎
I got my degree in Halifax, a piece of my heart was left there

After 3 years I left Halifax for come back home Quebec city (My hometown) 2 months ago and i miss so much Halifax . It was amazing experience for me !
Is part time or full time jobs available in Halifax
Ahhhh good ol Nova Scotia (Dartmouth),
Where you can experience all seasons in the run of 2 hours 🇨🇦. No place like home
THAT only happens in February.., Rain, Snow, Ice, a warm breeze and then a storm with hail.. And temperature movements of 30 degrees CELSIUS in two days.. NOT fun. I remember..

I’m from Halifax and when I travelled around Australia, I worked at a restaurant in Perth. An American aircraft carrier came into port and a few officers came into the restaurant. When they asked where I was from, I told them Halifax and was met with “no way, we love Halifax!” There were a few who knew all about the city and loved it! Talk about random conversations on the other side of the world 😀
Hi, how about the job opportunity as a cook in Halifax?
it truly is the best city in Canada.
Moved to Halifax from london Ontario last year and absolutely love it here!! Best decision I've made. Good video
Hey. How do you find the weather ?

Thank you for this great video! it brings a lot of memory. I'd spent 5 years living and studying in Halifax. I love Halifax!

Bang on! I really found your opinion honest and accurate. I have been living in Halifax since last three years and found everything you said totally relatable.
What if you met Medusa living there?
Should've mentioned that N.S. is the #1 taxed province in Canada.
And you get no services for it
Come to the province of Quebec and you will the taxes that we pay here. It s horrendous.. Qu is the most taxable province in all Canada. And services are 0.

Another thing you need to know about Halifax is Dartmouth..

I am from Ohio, USA. I visited Halifax in 2016 and loved the city. I am generalizing, but the people were incredibly nice. I have so many fond memories of my trip and can't wait to go back at some point.

@@maruf7956 actually after I wrote my comment I thought maybe you had a serious question. we have had about 50000 middle eastern immigrants here in Halifax in the last 3 or 4 years, so it is a touchy topic here. Too complicated to discuss in a RUclips comment.
I went to university in Halifax back in the 90s and visited frequently for years afterwards with work. I'll always love that place, it gave me some of my very best days (and nights!). The locals are generally more than a little awesome, food is great, it punches WAY above its weight in terms of nightlife and just has this super-fun-yet-relaxed maritime vibe. Best time to go imho is early September. It's still warm, you still get all the cruise ship activity, military/navy ships coming in and out all the time and the university students all come back. For a small city, it is always buzzing with life at that time of year, it's really great.
I visited Halifax over 10 years ago now on a long East Coast road trip with my family through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI from Ontario, and Halifax was my favourite city we visited :) the charm, culture, and atmosphere was superb. I look forward to going back one day!
I was born and raised in the Halifax area, to Canadians looking to move. Halifax has a lot to offer depending on how you want your lifestyle.
First and foremost Halifax is the 11th largest metropolitan area in Canada. We'll likely have a population around 480,000 for 2021. We'll be the next city to break half a million for sure in Canada. And that is because in the last five years was only when Halifax started seeing significant growth.
For the most part the city has handled it well, and there are some very exciting projects happening. Jobs definitely don't pay the same compared to the rest of Canada. And you pay more taxes with the less money you'll be making. And finding that nice job can definitely take some time. But there is never a shortage of labor and service jobs to get noticed.
But the climate is very nice compared to other Canadian cities like Montreal or Toronto. We have the ocean, rolling hills and mountains. I don't want to be anywhere else.
This post is an honest assessment of current hfx.
where are the mountains??? i apologize my ignorance

Me, watching this as if I haven't lived in NS my whole life: 👁👄👁
As a whole, Canada really seems like such a beautiful country, both in its looks and its people! Very happy to be neighbors with you here in America :)
We love Halifax, have been there so many times, have fun living there, we have never been there in winter, so best of luck.
Since I was born I’ve slowly been heading to Canada, now I feel like NS has my heart set
I have been living here in Halifax for the last seven years and never moved to other parts. Loved it and your Channel. Just subscribe it. All the Best.
@ashraf taqatqah Whole Canada is Cold.
@ashraf taqatqah Winter can be very bad. You need a pair of very good winter boots. It can be very icy so you need to be careful when walking or driving. But it can also be very beautiful. Many people go ice skating, sledding, or play ice hockey. There is a place in the commons where you can go ice skating for free if you have your own skates, and you can rent skates if you don't have any.
@ashraf taqatqah Being cold is a relative sensation and you don't have to suffer it. If you are coming from a warmer culture then your body has adapted to stay cool so you will feel colder than those that have lived in cold temperatures their whole life. If you want to develop cold temperature tolerance in your body take a few minutes of you daily shower and lower the temperature to full cold. Your body will strengthen its natural ability to heat itself and you will not find it so cold. You can actually go swimming in the winter if you want to.

How about your life as a Muslim in Halifax? Is it alright?
As an immigrant and resident of the city for 7 years I must say the video is well done. Halifax and the surrounding areas of the city are a fantastic place to live. The people are some of the best I have ever met and there is no shortage of things to do here. I will say the weather can be rough at times and don't even get me started on the dreaded construction season lol. Seriously though I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure to at least visit once.
Nice video. Appreciate the effort you put into it.
Really enjoyed the review. Great job!
Lots of positives in the video, and all true. But anyone thinking of moving to the HRM should be aware: NS has low wages and high taxes compared to the rest of Canada. Even with the high taxes the city's infrastructure, development, public education and health care system are far more inferior and behind other Canadian cities. Tuition is also the highest is Canada. The cost of food, energy, consumer goods and entertainment are the same cost or more expensive than other parts of Canada. Un-employment is usually high, and opportunities are limited to certain industries. Know the pros and cons before you decide if HRM is right for you. Good luck!
and $1,400 for a 1 bedroom?? Yikes!! that's crazy! WAY too much for low wages and high taxes.
@@susanadams3874 , 6 years ago, I lived in an apartment that was in Clayton park, so maybe a 10 min drive from downtown? Definitely not in the heart of downtown. A 1 bedroom at an old apartment building cost me 1200.
true Nova Scotia is a poor province, and things are done differently compared to the rest of Canada, look at covid, the maritimes is the only place to close its boarders, because they dont have the infrastructure to look after the sick.

I'm a Newfoundlander living in California...we are hopefully planning our move to Dartmouth within the next year...we've been to Halifax back in 2002, absolutely loved it! Great Video!
When I first moved to Halifax in 2017 there were a few huge missing things I noticed besides being a tiny city: No Uber service, NO stadium (not talking about a hockey arena that here is 40 years old) and no subway metro service. Lots have changed, but of those I mentioned only Uber came in. Housing is the main problems now, encampments are over the city.
Basically there are 4 sources of work in Halifax: Healthcare, Tourism, shipping docks and teaching at the Universities. But I would not recommend moving here unless you don't mind these things.
I spent a wonderful 5 years living in Halifax, and watching your video reminds me how much I'd love to go back and visit. Won't be going back permanently though, the summer humidity in Nova Scotia is a lot for a prairie boy like me to handle lol
The cut transition to smelling a flower was so frickin' cheesy I love it lol

As someone studing my options to move to Canada, this video has got me , I had been considering calgary until I saw how Halifax (and Nova Scotia) is. Thanks a lot
If you ain’t here yet bro, you definitely have a chance now to rethink your thoughts. As someone who studied and currently lives here and looking to leave soon, the summary is this: Halifax has very low salaries, low job supply, high cost of living, highest tax in the country and high cost of accommodation. Do the math yourself.
@@mollar9394 Hello my good friend, I'm also thinking moving soon to NS for studies purposes. Could you please mention from your very own perspective, the pros and cons in the different areas of interest for future students like job opportunities, accomodation, health care, etc? Halifax seems like the most ocean cities in Sao Paulo State, in Brazil. Small cities, nice people, slow rhythm (in a good way) and a vibrant life at summer.
For sure, Halifax seems like a city where I'd love to live, to escape from a chaotic city like Sao Paulo. Yes, the state and the city has the same name, like New York.

Been living here for over a year and I can agree with most. Nowhere is perfect and Halifax also has its pros and cons but it's great to be a part of this place.
I lived in Halifax for almost 3 years; beautiful scenery and friendly people. But it was too quiet for us; not a lot going on, employment was very tough- its very nepotistic. A lot of Nova Scotians have never left the province, never mind the country, and its about who you know, not what you know. Taxes are high and options are less than you;d find in almost every other province. The economy struggles, so there’s higher unemployment. I loved the scenery there, and it’s probably a nice place to visit, but I couldn’t live there again.
You are exactly right, it's not "what" you know - it's "who" you know in order to get a job in Halifax, or if you're one of Trudeau's migrants. I was in a well known international retail outlet store just the other night and not one of the employees were Nova Scotian, let alone Canadian. Many Nova Scotians are unemployed, but foreigners are employed?
I have always loved Halifax and if I had not moved west in my youth I think that it would have been my choice as a Maritimer to live. Being one of the oldest cities in the Maritimes and a port city gives it a charm that is very enticing. It also has a great nightlife scene partially due to the high number of Universities found within its borders. As mentioned compared to other cities in the Maritimes the weather is pretty temperate. At Christmas time, they have a 50/50 chance of having snow. Of course like all things that could be achangin.
That being said, Over the years I have visited Halifax many times and have never found that the cost of living here was all that cheap. Even compared with cities two or three times the size in Canada. Jobs were tough to find and the pay rate was very low. Plus because of the high student population, rental accommodation has always been tough to find and expensive. I had a friend who had to move to another university in another province after not getting in the residence at Dalhousie because the cost was so high outside of the university. That same person returned as a professional bought a house and rented the top floor of the house out to university students. He easily covered the cost of his mortgage and then some. What was interesting he never had to advertise a vacancy. All he had to do was place a sign in his front window and it would be filled within days. His central location was also beneficial.

@Yasmine Ali you should love it it’s a great city not to much to do in the winter is the only problem lol
I've been here for 2 months (from Montreal and Toronto). Here's what I noticed the most.
1. Steep hills. VERY steep hills.
2. Being by the ocean, the wind is no joke. I promise you, I had a hard time breathing in it and my 115 lbs almost blew right into the street. This was the downtown core by the ocean.
3. A "small town mindset" is to be expected by people who live here but don't get out of the city much.
4. Beautiful ocean or nature views, anywhere you go.
5. I notice people don't smoke cigarettes as much here. The incentive to stop is probably the $18 a pack compared to $8-10 in Toronto lol.
6. I Never heard the term "Donairs" until I came here. Turkish. Basically a gyro.
7. The pay scale here is SO low. If you're used to good pay elsewhere, don't expect that here. I learned the hard way.
8. Lastly, there is almost NO housing available. Most availabilities are rooms and some are sharing with someone else. Be very wary of that.
I'm a city girl and I don't feel like I would stay much longer. However, Covid is going on and its Winter, so I'm interested in seeing what the city is like without snow and in full swing!

Sometimes I miss NS. I grew up there and used to live in Halifax at one time. Unfortunately, there's no money to be made due to the lowest wages in Canada unless you have a govt job. Whatever you do earn, be prepared to give half it to the govt in various forms of taxation. Even selling/buying a cheap second hand vehicle will fork over 15%.
That said, what he says about culture is spot on. It is possible to overlook the low wages and high taxes and move to small towns and make a decent living and be happy if all you want to do is exist.
The population doesn't grow because the economic conditions set by the govt forces young people to leave, and this has been the trend since the 1960's. Also, the healthcare system is also a bottom feeder.
Taxes are the highest
Services are the lowest
Wages are the lowest
And, I didn't even mention fuel prices....
And, I also forgot the nation's highest air fares for travel.
On a positive, it would be a fantastic place for an off-grid lifestyle.
Really thinking of moving from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia in a few years 🤞
Nice video. My family love this place. Keep posting new videos. We are the Vendivels.
Some trivia. Halifax is called "Smart City" because it has the highest concentration of learning institutions in North America. Loved it when you were at Chocolate Lake. So many memories going back to the seventies and eighties. IO could almost see myself and my cousin chatting up the babes in my imagination. Sadly he passed in 2003. We had some awesome times at Chocolate Late. There used to be a white VW Bug sunk near the center of the lake. I think it's been removed by now.
Love HALIFAX Nova Scotia. 👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really love Nova Scotia and wish to live there.
Excellent video thank you so much.
Great video. Thanks!
I used to live there for 3 years, the weather is too much for me, too cold, too much rain and snow, the whole city is Spring Garden Road and Barrington Street. Now I live in Toronto, is little bit warmer here.
Toronto is on average about the same as Halifax temperature wise. Very slight monthly differences.
The summers are definitely warmer in Toronto but the winters are milder in Halifax and Halifax is not subject to the extreme temperatures that Toronto gets. I found Toronto winters to extremely cold and all the tall buildings make it worse. Halifax gets more snow due to no' easters but not usually very much until January. However if you here for our record breaking bad winter a few years ago that would skew your perception. That was wicked.
@@Mythos131 I recall the entire central and northeastern area of North America had a severe winter that year.
Need a car to get around to explore outside Halifax, bus system is slow.
Rent is overpriced in Halifax and less then 1% vacancy rate. Houses are expensive and even go over asking depending on area
We have one of the lowest minimum wage in the country
If you are relying on minimum wage maybe you should go to the vocational school and do something with yourself.

You will love it here. My niece was born and raised in lower BC and came out to the Maritimes for University. She wanted to go someplace different and knew someone from the Maritimes back in BC and thought she was such a nice person that the Maritimes would be a good place to check out. She came here and said to me "Oh my God, everyone is so friendly here!" She loves it here. It think it may beat the mountains. ;)
Awesome! I would have been in Halifax to commence my MSc program (Dalhousie University) 3 days ago if not for Covid19 that truncated my travel plans. I love the province!!! Quiet and Peaceful.
Thanks for posting. This video made me yearn for home. I grew up in Nova Scotia and lived in Halifax for 10 years before moving to the Seattle area. This video is a great depiction of the Halifax I remember and I hope all who are fortunate to call it home appreciate what they have.

Awesome video thanks for sharing 😀
NO WAY! I moved to Halifax 3 years ago from Toronto and it is freezing all year rainy and dark. Such a big difference in weather, its a damp cold which feels so much colder and with no sun shine even more cold. Rain, I lived on Vancouver island for 10 years and thought I knew rain, nope, Halifax rains all year, no need to ever water the grass as it will never turn brown. Also Halifax home heating is a major issue as it can be cold almost 12 months of the year making for a big yearly heating bill, summers will be so cold in the morning you will run heat and hot in the evening with humidity. Summers are late and short starting in mid July and ending in early September. There is a reason you see people is sweaters all the time here, with the high cost of heat stores are always cold and people keep their jackets on. People here are used to the weather and know nothing else so its normal for them, but if your not from the maritimes get ready for lots of rain, no sun and cold all the time, even in buildings.
100% accurate!!
Nonsense
I moved to Halifax 7 years ago from Montreal, and it was not really a good idea. Housing and food costs are surprisingly high, as are taxes, power rates and the costs of starting a business, while the economy really can't support these high costs of living. It's not surprising that every other ad on the radio (and buses, billboards, etc) is for some debt-relief agency or other.
Good afternoon. Can you tell us more about Halifax? In particular, about the weather, work, entertainment, and more
Awesome information and visuals. Thank you!
