Humility is the balance in the middle of entitlement and self-deprecation. According to the parable of the banquet it's also about letting the master lead you to the place where you belong.
Humility and being humble is a double-edged sword. Most ultra-humble religious followers are nothing but doormats who deep down are self-loathing golems. That’s why they tend to join organizations where they submit to others.
Reminds me of the Parable of the Talents - to develop your talents to the fill the space of potential God has given you. Cell Phone was a bold move... I gets lots of requests for prayer and then money! Never sure what to do about that!

There was a time I thought I was humble and God told me I was in self pity! Thinking less of yourself is NOT humility! Thinking of yourself less is not altogether humility either. Thinking of others as better than yourself is humility! Thinking of the welfare of others as more important than your own is humility, according to the bible.
If humility means respect for others, respect for authority, and keeping one's nose out of other people's business, then it is good. If it means calling yourself a worm and not a man, if it means meditating day and night how lousy we are and how unworthy we are, humility is toxic. I have heard that humility is the foundation of the spiritual life and that humility will act like a little captain to keep all the other virtues in line. Of course both of these are absurd as they can be, and anyone who has actually tried to have this kind of humility knows this only too well.

Humility might get us into Heaven but it makes life extremely difficult in this life. Humility is like running a race with an 800 pound gorilla on your back.
@@AussieDave I don't know, Dave. If prode is a cancer then humility is like chemo---almost as bad as the disease itself. Perhaps humility is a good virtue for priests and nuns but laypeople should concentrate on charity and obedience.
