I started there at a youthful 17 years old as a glass collector on Friday and Saturday nights and by the time I left I was the bar supervisor. It's certainly changed a lot since those days. Thanks for the flashbacks though, the picture in your room that was drawn by a pupil from Corstorphine Primary (where I went to school too) is of the old parish church, which is also where I married my wife. @@steve-marsh- Steve, Happy New Year to you and Alicja. I really appreciated the sunlight effect behind the Edinburgh Castle beginning @ 04:30 as a photographer. A good strategy to get off to an early start the next morning. The hotel looked good value for £80. A high level of cleanliness can make up for small deficiencies in a room but the tea and coffee tray was generously stocked. A lot of places could take a lesson out of their book. Well done!

Canadian/American here. I've stayed at a Wetherspoons! A couple actually, on the same trip: The Bull & Stirrup in Chester, and the Kings Head Inn in Salisbury. Cheap & cheerful and I knew what was available for breakfast :)
Wow! been seeing a lot from you this week. I liked it when Alicia popped up in the video. Can’t wait to see where you travel next. Edinburgh is my favorite city I was there in 2012 and 2018. I was awestruck when I got off the train and glanced up at the old city wow. It’s probably old hat to you, since you lived there, but I love it.
I stayed at THE WHITE LADY a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I booked early and got a realllllllly nice room at a realllllllllly nice price. Also stayed at the 'Spoons hotels in Birmingham & Inverness. Where I'd stay for sure if I ever make it back.
On my trip to the UK this month I had my first take of Wetherspoon’s. It’s certainly not the best food, but it’s cheap and easy. Thanks for all the great travel inspiration as always!
@@sheenamaclean8324 perhaps not, but when you don't have the highest expections, Wetherspoons generally meets them. And while I have a definite love-hate relationship with them (I find the main owner a total prick, and not just because of his political views), I can appreciate how they have lovingly saved quite a few landmark locations from the wrecking ball, like the former cinema in Cambuslang (a horrible suburb of Glasgow, but what a pub!), or the North Western in Liverpool, or Hamilton Hall in Liverpool Street Station in London... There are better pubs around, but these were definitely not the worst i visited in my travels across the island.
@@barvdw haha, I was just thinking about that one in cambuslsng as an example of a sympathetic renovation before you said it as I'm along the road in Rutherglen . You are right about Tim.Martin too so I always have a battle with my conscience when I go in, but I like them fact that if you are on your own you don't feel self conscious going in on your own and you always know what to expect, lol.
@@sheenamaclean8324 yeah, Cambuslang isn't exactly your typical tourist destination, especially not in January (I'm a train and transit nerd, and Cambuslang has a station on the Glasgow suburban rail network, that's the only reason i ended up there), but of the 2 pubs i went in, this was by far the best.
@@barvdw- Is this the hotel where the owner took umbrage with travel vlogger, Elle Darby, asking free Valentine's Day accommodations for she and a companion intimating a favorable travel review in exchange?
I watch your videos daily and absolutely love the. I have shared them and sat with my Mother to enjoy your journeys. But, Just seeing Alicja in this video (and others) brings a big smile to my face. She seems the perfect companion and what an attitude for adventure.
I have been in Wetherspoons' pubs/restaurants. They seem to offer good value on both food and beer. I like how they post in menus the prices of beer and other beverages and of decent quality and quantity. Remindes me of the chain bar/pub/resturants here in the USA like Chilli and Applebees. Actually Wetherspoons' does what pubs did generations ago, offer food, drink and accommodations. Certainty a good value place in a city, the kind of accommodations and pricing I like in my travels. Good to have the guest appearances of the 'ghost' and Alicja. We need to see her more and to keep you out of trouble. I can't wait until Saturday for the next stop in your adventures !
I love the term clean and simple luxury.. Cheap and cheerful is a horrible way to describe a room that is perfect for a layover and a full holiday.. Cheap is a horrendous term for something so obviously well presented and clean ❤🎉😊
As someone who has spent only 4 days in Edinburgh it was great to recognise a lot of the places shown. As a wetherspoons shareholder, glad to see you supporting the business, lool. Not paying the license fee for music is part of why they can serve the drinks cheaper than other pubs.
License fees just to play music? Its utterly nuts tbf. I knew a company got £5k fine due to a random pot shot caller from PRS called the moment where a colleague's phone rang and they thought she was playing music. I told the manager to take them to court and defiitely not to pay it. Punchinr: the company was forced to. Mad world
A brilliant start to the year Steve. Looking forward to following your 2024 adventures. It's great to see that you both survived New Year. Safe travels.
I liked how the train announcement said you are now in Montrose the moment you stepped onto the train - just in case someone forgets where they get on. 🤣
Stayed at a Wetherspoons in Wigan after a recommendation from the Groom of the wedding we were there to attend & we loved it! And being that we had come from across the pond & everyone wanting to catch up with us while we were in town/country, we held court in the pub downstairs pretty much everyday. The room was wonderful & over and above the discount price we were paying.
Great video stayed in one in Southend-on-Sea a few years ago. Found them very comfortable and reasonable priced. Hope you and your good lady had a good Christmas and new year.
When 'the white lady' walked through the room I thought "that's the perfect height for Alicja" and then she turned up. Really nice editing. I've been at the White Lady once, it wasn't bad at all. Wetherspoons might not be the best quality pub, but nevertheless they aren't bad places considering. I rather stay at a hotel+pub than a hotel in the UK. Hotels nowadays are almost all the same, wherever you are in the world. Pubs with lodgings like some Wetherspoons or Marston Inns always have a unique atmosphere when visiting. The hallways might be dull, the food might be more or less the same everywhere, they are still a unique feel you can only find in the UK. And I never had problems with the noise (Wetherspoons never have music: one of the reasons they can be cheap is by not paying music licenses and thus go without music). In fact, I never heard any noise from the pub when staying above one. I guess I've been lucky...
Another Great video, and the 'Famous Alicja' strikes again! What a Laugh.😂 You guys are 'The Best' - ALWAYS Informative and Fun to watch. 'Happy New Year' and Safe Travels.
Tend to agree! And believe me, this was the cheapest option by a MILE on this night, the only other places were shared bathroom etc, so this was the clear winner
Another recent binge watcher here - I've been back to Scotland five times in the past eight years, but recently became mildly disabled, so I'm afraid no more Highland walks in my near future, so it's amazing to be able to trudge along with you and Alesja just seeing the sights again. Aside from your channel, the closest I get to Scotland now is learning Gaelic on Dualingo, so keep 'em coming!
Thoroughly enjoyed your video! I live in Northern Virginia (Washington DC suburbs), and found it interesting to see you poking round your 'local' area, which is remote & exotic to me. I've been to Scotland (and England & Wales) numerous times in my youth (1970s-80s), thanks to my mom, who was a Briton living in the US, so it was nice to see some of your local area of Scotland, which brought back many happy memories of my earlier visits. We stayed at a hotel in the Haymarket area during one trip, I recall. Funnily enough, there's a town called Haymarket not far from me now. I don't think we ever saw a Wetherspoons pub during those trips, but they look nice, and very reasonably priced! (A beer at a bar/restaurant here in my suburban Virginia town is easily $6 to $9.) The hotel room looks very nice, too! Thanks for the videos. I really enjoy them, and your down-to-earth presentation. They are great!
We discovered Spoons hotels when the broughty ferry one opened about ten years ago. They did an opening offer of something like £25 a room so we came up from Edinburgh with Baz as a wee lad just for the fun of it and a well earned break. Seemed decent in opening week.
We’re heading to Edinburgh for a few days while touring the UK (in October) and the prices in off season are pretty crazy 😁. I love walking around new places, you see so much more than you do on a bus and you can take tons of pictures as you go!
If you haven't book a hotel already try looking at Travelodges. I got one in central Edinburgh for this weekend for £26.99! Nothing fancy but clean and en suite.
Edinburgh is perfect for walking around but you can easily get worn out, so pace yourself. Yesterday it was quite busy but we managed to find a good pizza /icecream place ('The Slice'?) at the top end of he High Street /Royal Mile when it was raining. If you happen to see the multicoloured Guinness World Record pierced lady around there please speak to her as she's very nice.
Great bonus video. I always prefer a proper bath in a hotel room as opposed to a shower. Lovely to see Alicja pop up as well. I wasn’t expecting that - I thought the white lady was in your dreams! Can’t wait to see where you are going.
Nice views on the trip from Montrose to Edinbvrgh, the Wetherspoon's hotel room was well equipped for the price, and not too far out of town, so the best of luck on your trip to??? and I'm looking forward to the videos of the rest of your trip Steve, All the Best.
Hi loved the video, we have two weatherspoons in Hull and the busier one they built an hotel on top ,the glass lift to get up to it is in the middle of the pub it's got a fabulous high up beer garden it's got 49 rooms and around that price for a room how good is that 😊😊
Hi Steve. My wife and I stayed in a couple of Wetherspoon pub “hotels” and were very pleased with the accommodation. Good value and a bonus of an excellent evening meal and breakfast. What is there not too like when on a budget. 👏👏👍😀
We stayed at Weatherspoons last Sept on our first trip to Scotland, and also found it very pleasant. We enjoyed exploring the shops and bakery nearby. My great grandmother came from Montrose so it was lovely to get a glimpse of your city too. Cheers from Ottawa, Ontario!
I'm in the States and I knew that Wetherspoons has lodgings! We stayed in The Unicorn in Ripon on our 2018 trip. A very agreeable stay and so convenient to have the pub downstairs for dinner and brekky the next morning (full English for around $5 it was!).
Lodgings... how quaintly American! In the UK it's called 'accommodation'. To us, 'lodgings' means a room with a bed in somebody's house but these days it's rarely heard.
Good tip, thank you! BTW, I don't know if you get to see this: You liked to travel to Germany every once in a while. If you plan on doing so in 2024 as well, please be aware of A) ongoing strikes by train conductors - and nobody can tell how much longer they will continue, and B) major renovations of the railway tracks over the whole year, affecting major connections. The route between Mannheim and Frankfurt is already blocked (buses are used as replacements), and many other lines will be affected later in the year. One I can remember is Berlin - Hamburg but there are many more. Hope this helps!
Once again Steve you've shown you're worth your recent RUclips award. I could have predicted you'd go for the Spoons Curry (love their curry nights). It was also great to see you had your very own "White Lady" with you. I hope she enjoyed the Christmas Market as much as I did. Looking forward to the next part of the trip. All the best from Perth.
I didnt know Wetherspoons had hotels. Im impressed with what l saw Steve. Loved the wee painting you showed in the hotel. Wishing you both a great year of adventures, all the best.....Alioban ❤
Hi Steve...it's amazing just how many ghosts you two seem to find !😂😂😂 Although that room looks a bit old fashioned...that was more than made up for by being quiet, clean, comfy bed, and those yummy freebies to nibble on !
It's a strange one, a bit rough around the edges, but also very real and we love it here. And when you get down to the beach it's just like WOW! Absolutely stunning
We'll have an early fight out of Edinburgh airport also. But leaves at 6 am, hoping that security is going to be quick and easy. Then on to Heathrow for the return to Seattle, Washington. Love watching your videos. So much info. Hope you two had a great Holiday season.
first time commenting but i just had to for this vid! i did a double take when i saw the thumbnail because i stayed in the white lady the first time i ever visited scotland (back in october 2018!). honestly it looks the same as when i went 5 years ago (dark wallpaper and all), which is great to see as far as upkeep is concerned 😄 you're right about it being a good thing to be far from the pub by the way, our room was right above and it was certainly apparent once dinnertime came around🤭thanks for taking us along and safe travels!
I'm enjoying watching these videos of Edinburgh and around Scotland. I studied overseas for a year at the university of Aberdeen and traveled through Edinburgh a couple times... That was '96-97 so I'm definitely trying to spark some long ago memories watching these videos!
Wow, that place was spotless Steve, how good to have a bath and a shower. Luxury these days. Hope you had a safe journey to your next destination and Alicja enjoyed the Christmas Market etc xx
Another great video. I've flown from Edinburgh twice. Due to hotel prices I once stayed in Dunfermline and the second time stayed at a great hostel in Glasgow ( 4 am start the next morning though).
I also wasn't aware they had hotels, looks like a decent place to stay. Great to Alicja reprising her ghostly performance again.😂 you must hate those early flights by now, but maybe better to avoid crowds and delays.
Didn't expect to hear the best Christmas song, IMO, during this video. Surprised Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" didn't have your monetization snatched.
So nice to reminisce about my only trip to the UK! I got to be in Edinburgh during the Christmas Market during 2019. It was wonderful! I followed the Water of Leith down to Leith as well, a great and scenic walk.
Ah Corstorphine. The home of my family for generations, and myself during school holidays many decades ago. It seems like only yesterday going into the shop (Wm Lowes) just opposite the pub (shown as Steve goes into 'spoons), helping Grandmother carry back bags of spuds down the hill to Carrick Knowe. It was a really lovely place back then. I hope to get back there some time. Oh Steve, what a brilliant collection of videos.
Well Steve, I never thought that I'd see one of your videos featuring Corstorphine, where I'm from in Edinburgh (ok, I left a good few years ago but am back a least 5/6 times a year)!! The White Lady has a long history - any local of a (cough) certain age will remember when it was Dingwalls Furniture Store. That closed and was demolished (late seventies?) and a pub, The Westbury, was built, later becoming The Agenda. Wetherspoons took over around 2011, called it The White Lady and added the hotel. End of history lesson :) Happy New Year Steve and well done for the RUclips plaque!
So that is one of my parents local pubs. I grew up there. Good effort walking from the city centre. i guess it wasn't a Friday or Saturday night there? There are also a lot of really good restaurants in Corstorphine and a nice wee pub called Winston's down Kirk Loan. The next time you walk through Roseburn I suggest you go into the Roseburn Bar. You will not regret it. The White Lady appears down the road at Dovecot Rd. She used to appear underneath the old Sycamore but it was blown down in the Boxing Day storm in 1996...ish.
I just subscribed, my friend Kimberley-Z recommend your channel. 80 quid for one night at weather spoons awesome 👏. Enjoyed the video lots of helpful information. San Diego fan!!! 👍👍
My husband and I love your videos …. Lots of great scenery and laughs. We live in Canada but travel to Scotland often …. We have many places now that we want to go see after watching your adventures. Hope we run into you someday on our treks 😊
I’ve stayed in that hotel a couple of times, and both times have been perfect, a nice tidy comfortable room with everything you would need PLUS a Spoons downstairs, a definite bargain
Great video start in 2024, loved it! Looking forward to what's coming this year, never missed one so far. By the way, very friendly ghost😂 All the best from Germany!
Good Advice Steve! I've done a fair amount of walking in Edinburgh and if one gets away from the Royal Mile, Princes Street, Princes Street Gardens and New Town. the crowds thin and the walking is fantastic.
Hi Steve, I discovered your channel just a couple of weeks ago, thanks to the unfathomable RUclips algorithm 😁 So pleased though, because I'm loving the content that you and Alicja are putting out. I'm even using some of your videos as research for a proposed house move this year. Can I suggest a few destinations? I've probably got about another 150 videos to watch, so forgive me if you've already been, but I think you'll love Slovenia as a whole, and Amalfi. I know you tend to do a lot of jam-packed short breaks, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to cram in my suggestions into a couple of days... but here goes. Get yourself a flight out to Trieste Monfalcone, then take an airport taxi over to the train station in Nova Gorica in Slovenia. While you're waiting for your train, you can stand outside the front of the station with one foot in Nova Gorica and one in its Italian twin Gorizia. Take the train to Bled - you will need to swap sides for the best views. (We stop at Bohinjska Bistrica when we holiday there, btw.) Bled is VERY touristy, but don't let that put you off. Take a walk around the lake, and include a "Steve Marsh special" uphill walk to the castle. After your Bled trip, you can take a bus to Ljubljana. Ljubljana is a compact city. I've just watched your Kaunas video, and if you like Kaunas, I reckon you'll be all over Ljubljana. As for the rest of Slovenia... you pretty much can't go wrong. We've stopped in enough workaday towns way off the beaten track to know there's interest pretty much anywhere, ranging from a 360m tall chimney at Trbovlje Power Station (tallest chimney in Europe that we found by accident) to a Italianate day out in Piran. (As an aside, many Slovenes avoid Piran because it is full of tourists, and go to Rovinj in Croatia, which is reportedly just as pretty.) Speaking of Italianate, you should also get yourself on a flight to Naples, and travel out to Amalfi. We stayed at a self catering property outside of Amalfi, which a) was beautiful and b) had more than 100 steps to get out of the garden 😂 The property is close to Pogerola and you can walk through the "streets" to Amalfi town itself. Amalfi is full of interesting architecture and a shockingly large duomo... Not much Brutalist Architecture though, I'm afraid. There is another walking route out of the top of the town that would complete the circle back to Pogerola. From town I'd get a bus up to Ravello, but you might prefer one of the ferry services to out to Positano (or beyond). We took the ferry out and the bus back. Anyway, even if you haven't been, I doubt you are short of suggestions from other subscribers, so I look forward to many hours of happy viewing and the new content from you both during 2024. Thanks to you both and Happy New Year!
Hi Steve great little pre trip video ( i hope Alicja didn't spend too much at the Christmas Market 😂) weatherspoons accommodation seemed very good value & i think there is space for independent hotels/B&B & large chains !! Looking forward to the Ireland & Spain trips 👍
Happy New Year to you both. My husband & I have stayed in The White Lady about 3 times, we thought it was good value for money, as you said it's very quiet & very clean, we 'd highly recommend it , from me in Irvine
Funny you turning on the tv to antiques road trip ! Something I like to watch when visiting the UK (I’m visiting from Canada). And my husband loves to watch snooker!
My wife and I stayed in a 'Spoons hotel in Kings Lynn in October, visiting for my sister's funeral. The double room cost us £65, and like yours was very comfortable and quiet. I was very impressed by the food and booze on offer in the pub, as well - superb value. Had a few local craft IPAs at less than £2 a pint, so I tried them all, and had a really good gammon steak for food. My wife's fish & chip was very good too. Really enjoyed it, and thoroughly recommend. Good video as usual, love the walks around the back-streets you do, they give a proper idea of wherever you are - great stuff. My favourite RUclips channel by far. Thank you!
great video - I have stayed at the Kings Highway Hotel (Wetherspoons), Had a nice room and the price was pretty reasonable but its better to book in advance.
I stayed in one of them in Minehead, Somerset and was thoroughly impressed, £57 for the night. Large room, very comfortable and good location. Given my room was 2 floors above the smoking area, couldn't really hear the punters from my room which was surprising. The bus for Taunton was only 1 minute walk away! The only problem was I stayed in the pub bit for a bit longer than expected as I got carried away with drinking as some of the locals befriended me but it was a nice night there. Would definitely stay in a Wetherspoons hotel again.
Great video as always Steve! Very clever editing to spook us all with the ghost scene - that must have been well thought out. Well done both of you. I was just wondering when you showed us the windows and the outside - what if the hotel had (God forbid) gone on fire? I was trying to figure out what your escape route would be. Looking forward to future videos of your travels!
I need a bath in the evening Steve, essential after a day of activities but I also need my shower to wake me up in the morning!! I would never have considered this hotel but I would now. Thank you and a very Happy and Adventurous New Year to you both.
Wonderful statue on Corstorphine Road featuring Robert Louis Stevenson's characters from "Kidnapped", David Balfour and Alan Breck Stewart, not far away, I believe. Got a quick view once from a bus! Fun video and Happy New Year!

@@barvdw- Is this the hotel where the owner took umbrage with travel vlogger, Elle Darby, asking free Valentine's Day accommodations for she and a companion intimating a favorable travel review in exchange?
Great video Steve, I showed my retired parents your channel and they love it. All the best for the new year mate 🎉
I stayed in the white lady around 5 years ago steve and the accommodation and the staff were first class ❤ Happy new year to you both ❤
Aye I found them a friendly bunch! Cheers Sandra! Happy New Year!
To be fair for the price it looked like a decent place to stay. The white lady gag was funny 🤣🤣
Cheers Brian! Alicja seems to enjoy wearing a towel over her heid :D
@@steve-marsh Knew it was Alicja! 💀
I love the term clean and simple luxury.. Cheap and cheerful is a horrible way to describe a room that is perfect for a layover and a full holiday.. Cheap is a horrendous term for something so obviously well presented and clean ❤🎉😊
Great video, I just adore Edinburgh. That is a very good price, especially for Christmas. Safe travels Steve!
Thanks for the great content, Steve. I’m always happy to see when you have uploaded
Thanks so much! This one was always just a bonus, but happy how it turned out :)
I liked how the train announcement said you are now in Montrose the moment you stepped onto the train - just in case someone forgets where they get on. 🤣
We Montrosians need that reminder :D
LOVE your content! Love how authentic it is and how informative. I’ve learned a LOT and appreciate how much you put into these videos.
Another great video Steve..I love watching them ( All ) always have a smile along the way...😀
Stayed at a Wetherspoons in Wigan after a recommendation from the Groom of the wedding we were there to attend & we loved it! And being that we had come from across the pond & everyone wanting to catch up with us while we were in town/country, we held court in the pub downstairs pretty much everyday. The room was wonderful & over and above the discount price we were paying.
Always like to see wee bits of Montrose, love a visit to the Market Tavern when we go.
Love it too! Sadly they've stopped their lunches now
Great video stayed in one in Southend-on-Sea a few years ago. Found them very comfortable and reasonable priced. Hope you and your good lady had a good Christmas and new year.
Same to you and yours mate!
Brilliant! I thought that ghosty looked familiar!
That ghost is always following me!
I always learn something from the comments section, cheers! :)
Another Great video, and the 'Famous Alicja' strikes again! What a Laugh.😂 You guys are 'The Best' - ALWAYS Informative and Fun to watch.
'Happy New Year' and Safe Travels.
They are quite literally brilliant. Have stayed at 4 and all have been exceptionally clean, smart...yes I know...really well priced and quiet.
You cannot go wrong with Steve's travel videos - the best I've come across for sure.
Also our channel were the first people on the big starflyer the day the market opened.
I found Google was a terrific resource for directions. Walking, what bus to take, when it’s due and where the stop is located. Helped a lot.
@@TerryMcGearyScotlandthanks.. I’ll watch out for her
Try Premier Inn and Travelodge, reasonable hotels always clean and basic just what you need. Somewhere to clean up stow your gear and sleep.
Great bonus video. I always prefer a proper bath in a hotel room as opposed to a shower. Lovely to see Alicja pop up as well. I wasn’t expecting that - I thought the white lady was in your dreams! Can’t wait to see where you are going.
Haha that White Lady was still there next to me when I crept out the door first thing in the morning :)
Nice views on the trip from Montrose to Edinbvrgh, the Wetherspoon's hotel room was well equipped for the price, and not too far out of town, so the best of luck on your trip to??? and I'm looking forward to the videos of the rest of your trip Steve, All the Best.
Steve, I enjoyed this very much. I've not watched your videos for a while but my wife keeps me informed when you're in Edinburgh! :)
Hi loved the video, we have two weatherspoons in Hull and the busier one they built an hotel on top ,the glass lift to get up to it is in the middle of the pub it's got a fabulous high up beer garden it's got 49 rooms and around that price for a room how good is that 😊😊
Haha love it, I'll need to come and stay there one day!
Hi Steve. My wife and I stayed in a couple of Wetherspoon pub “hotels” and were very pleased with the accommodation. Good value and a bonus of an excellent evening meal and breakfast. What is there not too like when on a budget. 👏👏👍😀
Totally agree mate!
Thanks Steve for a great video of Edinburgh. Nice hotel you stayed at too. The civic center was waaaay to crowed for me, love the walking tour.
Yeah I get worse with crowds as I get older!
Yeah I don't use UK hotels much so this one passed me by. But a filling breakfast is never a problem in the morning eh!?
Lodgings... how quaintly American! In the UK it's called 'accommodation'. To us, 'lodgings' means a room with a bed in somebody's house but these days it's rarely heard.
@@peterdean8009 Well, I just like the sound of "lodgings" so I used it. 😀
Good tip, thank you!
BTW, I don't know if you get to see this: You liked to travel to Germany every once in a while. If you plan on doing so in 2024 as well, please be aware of
A) ongoing strikes by train conductors - and nobody can tell how much longer they will continue, and
B) major renovations of the railway tracks over the whole year, affecting major connections. The route between Mannheim and Frankfurt is already blocked (buses are used as replacements), and many other lines will be affected later in the year. One I can remember is Berlin - Hamburg but there are many more.
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much!
What fun today! I love exploring different options locally (for you anyway)! The white lady was great!!!
Thanks so much Janice :)
I would LOVE to be in Scotland during the holidays. In fact I'd love to be in Scotland right now, period. Never been there.
You'll always be welcome in Scotland! But be ready for hotel prices! :D
Great video Steve, hope the White Lady didn't keep you awake too much ! Hotel looked great. Looking forward to the weekends' video :)
Loved the homes and the scenery. You and your wife are cute as buttons. You’re a hoot. Kentucky USA
I didnt know Wetherspoons had hotels. Im impressed with what l saw Steve. Loved the wee painting you showed in the hotel. Wishing you both a great year of adventures, all the best.....Alioban ❤
From Edinburgh, but almost twenty years in Canada. Love you're channel, it makes me quite homesick!
Steven, I pray that you and Alicia have a wonderful new year mate please be safe! 🎉😊
And the same to you pal! :)
Hi Steve...it's amazing just how many ghosts you two seem to find !😂😂😂
Although that room looks a bit old fashioned...that was more than made up for by being quiet, clean, comfy bed, and those yummy freebies to nibble on !
Recently moved so haven't seen Steve's videos lately; nice to see him 'back in action!'
Montrose looks like an absolute delightful village. Hope you enjoy living there.
Oh 6am flights are a staple of my life :D Good luck with yours, get through London and then enjoy a rest on that 10/11 hour flight to Seattle! :)
Thanks. really hope we'll run into you in May@@steve-marsh
I did that Edinburgh -> Heathrow -> Seattle in 2019. Have a good trip
first time commenting but i just had to for this vid! i did a double take when i saw the thumbnail because i stayed in the white lady the first time i ever visited scotland (back in october 2018!). honestly it looks the same as when i went 5 years ago (dark wallpaper and all), which is great to see as far as upkeep is concerned 😄 you're right about it being a good thing to be far from the pub by the way, our room was right above and it was certainly apparent once dinnertime came around🤭thanks for taking us along and safe travels!
Haha no way! Not much changes eh :)
Thanks again Steve and Alicja. I love the variety you’re putting out there!
I'm enjoying watching these videos of Edinburgh and around Scotland. I studied overseas for a year at the university of Aberdeen and traveled through Edinburgh a couple times... That was '96-97 so I'm definitely trying to spark some long ago memories watching these videos!
Funny seeing Steve stroll about your home city - cheers for the video!
A pleasure mate!
Wish we had weatherspoons here in New Zealnd, those prices for drinks are amazing! :) We pay a least double that and normaly more :(
I also wasn't aware they had hotels, looks like a decent place to stay.
Hi Steve I am a Scot now living in Australia. I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos, keep them coming. Thank you Catherine
That looked like a Great hotel, Steve... Close to get a bite to eat and drink... All the best in your travels.👋
Lovely surprise to see you both mid-week. Nice video, nice hotel Steve, thanks for sharing 🥰
Happy New Year to you and Alicja Best wishes for 2024 ....Brilliant Steve , The hotel has been noted and one for the future.
Some great tips in there! I/we would have had a bit more of a roam if I wasn't up so early the next morning (and Alicja had been working all day too)
I just subscribed, my friend Kimberley-Z recommend your channel. 80 quid for one night at weather spoons awesome 👏. Enjoyed the video lots of helpful information. San Diego fan!!! 👍👍
Hey thanks so much, welcome! And thanks to Kimberley as well :)
The subject of 'Spoons having hotel rooms has been a topic of debate at work. Thanks to your video we can settle it!
My husband and I love your videos …. Lots of great scenery and laughs. We live in Canada but travel to Scotland often …. We have many places now that we want to go see after watching your adventures. Hope we run into you someday on our treks 😊
Wow 😲 nice 1 Steve you can't beat weatherspoons absolute lovely room and great food happy new year 🎉 to you both all the best John 😊
All the best to you too John!
Cheers Andrea! It was the beginning of a great wee trip!
Good Advice Steve! I've done a fair amount of walking in Edinburgh and if one gets away from the Royal Mile, Princes
Street, Princes Street Gardens and New Town. the crowds thin and the walking is fantastic.
It's some city eh? And always best going for wee adventures
Stayed at one last year for a wedding. Didnt even know they did rooms. It was class mate. Great vid, keep them coming
Cheers Barry, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for them in future trips
Hi Steve,
I discovered your channel just a couple of weeks ago, thanks to the unfathomable RUclips algorithm 😁
So pleased though, because I'm loving the content that you and Alicja are putting out.
(We stop at Bohinjska Bistrica when we holiday there, btw.)
Bled is VERY touristy, but don't let that put you off.
(As an aside, many Slovenes avoid Piran because it is full of tourists, and go to Rovinj in Croatia, which is reportedly just as pretty.)
Speaking of Italianate, you should also get yourself on a flight to Naples, and travel out to Amalfi.
We stayed at a self catering property outside of Amalfi, which a) was beautiful and b) had more than 100 steps to get out of the garden 😂
The property is close to Pogerola and you can walk through the "streets" to Amalfi town itself.
Aww that was fun…hi Alicija and I’m sure she will have some fun shopping. Thank you 🤗
Oh she did indeed :)

Too funny! I was sure you were the one under the sheet pulling a prank on us. Well done.
Thank you!
I love when you and Alicja are in videos together I think she is quite funny
great video - I have stayed at the Kings Highway Hotel (Wetherspoons), Had a nice room and the price was pretty reasonable but its better to book in advance.
I'm hooked, your travels are so fun! Thank you.
Oh what a thought! Good point!
I tour all of Edinburgh's Wetherspoons pubs. The White Lady is the cheapest for a pint although it's in an affluent area. Great video.
