Heat the screws up as best you can with a hair dryer and it will soften the thread lock up a bit and possibly make them come out a little easier . I actually have a mini torch that I use in places that will not melt anything .
yeah i have learned to break out the heat gun with Arrmas nowadays. They went from little to no thread lock, to using a whole bottle on their trucks!!!!
yea, for sure. ive been into RC since the early to mid 80's , & the hobby is basically impossible to fuck up. i have the typhon, & it is a tank, no breaks ever,
Know it's a almost 2 Y.O. Video but helpful with my Kraton 4S which like your Big Rock I look at and the damn thing breaks. I'm kinda thinking that Traxxas may have been behind the design of this junk. I had a catastrophic failure at full speed yesterday. I think the only reason it didn't crumble was the brace. Hit cement so hard even the motor is cricked and it just makes a hi-pitched screaming noise now. Goes nowhere just sits. Ready to fix it and dump it. Head on with the video and I'm glad you showed the screw snap, lots wouldn't. At least we know you deal with the shoddy work as well.
Yeah I get the idea they are going for but these were not the best. But this is Arrma and they take notes. Looks like the v2's have made some improvements where i would need to try before I could say it's the same. Fun trucks though... Just not the best in the 300-400 market, IMO
Same thing with my Granite 4x4 BLX, after one 5 minute run in my flat backyard it was getting late, so I put the truck up. My wife calls me at work the next morning and says "I was dusting off your trucks and your new one is leaking fluid all over the mantle..I get home and both front shocks were bone dry. Tower sent me the parts to rebuild them, but instead of doing that I just got 4 aluminum big bore shocks from eBay/china and I haven't had a problem since.
been disappointed at times with "toughness" throughout and i have seen some carnage from others as well with the 3S BLX line. Still LOVE the truck for what it is but hating the HR cost of upgrades. Still well over the cost of the truck for me as a dealer to upgrade it with all the HR parts. Now we are in 8th scale pricing + and without addressing the shock, which 2 have leaked on me or the wheelie bar, broke first run!

My Granite 3s BLX Motor mount only shows 15,20 and 26 holes. Thats odd considering the same power module was used in all the 3s blx models. I just got my Granite 3s blx 3 weeks ago. My LHS tried to say 13t was for the brushed Granite
Hey, excellent video man. Appreciate what you do for the Hobby. I have a BR BLX and recently it started to make a loud grinding noise. I convinced myself that my problem was the rear DIFF, so I replaced it. I'm not much of a mechanic but I was pretty impressed that I was able to do it. Your video certainly helped me with the confidence to do it and for that I really wnt to thsnks you. Unfortunately, after the work to replace the Diff was complete and the truck was all put bat together correctly, the grinding is still there. Is it possible that the slipper gear could be the source of grinding noises? Id really like to find a way to diagnose the issue properly before going knee jerk and just blindly buying and replacing until id's fixed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your channel and all the hard work in n support of the community.
A good trick for not breaking your screws in the motor is to run the car before you try to remove the motor from the motor mount that way the motor will heat the screws and loosen up the thread lock
Nice video. If you couldn't find any videos on how to work on this truck you didn't check out Arrma's RUclips channel. They have several very good videos on how to service this truck 👍
@@NPCRC The videos on Arrmas RUclips page are listed under the Mega series. The basic design of theses trucks are all the same as far as how they come apart to be serviced 👍
A touch of soldering iron on those screws with loctite will prevent snapping them. Not really fair to blame Arrma for that but I understand being pissed about it lol.
well.. if this was maintenance on a truck i had been driving i could see not wanting to blame Arrma.. This was a new truck and I still feel that should not happen like that. It is cool though as it was going into a truck that i did not need that hole to mount!
@@NPCRC oh for sure that could have been a huge PITA. Great to hear that it wasn't! I pick my Granite up on Thursday and your videos helped get me there. Thanks!

Man I love my truck but to be honest with you it's been hell trying to keep that thing on the road LOL as I can see in the video as the screw snapped 😂💪🏽🙌
I am scratch building this truck from the parts list (super fun btw) - I am having an issue where my motor mount won't go all the way in at the diff connection point. My troubleshooting makes me think the spur/ slipper gear has something obstructing it...anyone else have that? The clip is sooo close.
you may want to get on one of my or an Arrma Facebook group and post a video of what you are talking about. Can you spin the diff or drivetrain with it ALMOST there?
Hey man does the big rock 3s come with 32p spur and pinion? I was going to get the granite mega 4x4 and just brushless convert it all I see different is plastic turnbuckles but then I see the mega had 48p little pinion and spur and they force you to use their motor mount spots for mesh so I wouldn't know what 32p door and pinion to use. Lol so long story short does this big rock come already with 32p gears? It looks like it in this video but I can't really tell thanks man
That wasn't Arrma fault it was yours you knew you are supposed to heat up the screws if Arrma didn't put thread lock the motor will shift with all the power and torque
Use a flat head and pry it out. Make sure the screw is removed on bottom side. Took lot of force to get mine out but it'll come out. Start on one side and alternate sides until it wiggles out
Well sorry about the snapped screw, but at least it not losi who strip out all your bolts before it even goes out lol, literally half the screws on my tenacity are stripped and I can't do shit with them but buy new parts when I want to change something. What size is the motor shaft? What tooth and pitch is the pinion gear and spur gear?
the brushless models are mod.8 pitch. I believe it is a 5mm shaft on that brushless motor
Use heat on screws with thread lock. That’s how it works
