You don't have to go 180 in music direction to not be stale. It's fine if they do whatever they like, but I keep hearing these arguments and it's just not fitting. I know bands who stay true to the sub-genre of metal they've been known for, only to change it to their own style that no other band can copy and even then be new and refreshing with new influences. Some bands even excel so much that they re-define or create a new sub-genre by being themselves. Changing style per se is not a sign of "freshness".
What a weird argument to make. ‘Freshness’ in a band’s sound and a band evolving their genre are neither mutually exclusive, nor does one necessitate the other. Just state whether you like the song or not and move on 😂

Man, i saw that solo in front of me in Lisbon and i was never a big fan of this song but when i saw this song live i got another prespective from it,and watching syn play it like it is nothing was the main thing to make me learn this song
Guitar 101: the song *is* in drop D it just uses a very specific chord in the chorus called the reverse power chord, for example with standard tuning if a regular power chord is 3-5-5, then a reverse power chord is 3-3-5. So for drop tuning a regular power chord is 5-5-5 and the reverse power chord is 5-3-5.

I really like this song, it’s different but the drums are nice and solid as always by Brooke’s. My question is how will they play this live because there seems to be a lot more electronic sounds added to this
not really if you think about it, only thing theyre adding is the orchestra and the distorted voice saying "nobody", its still got drums, bass, guitars and vocals
Guarantee you those arpeggios over Matt’s vocals are tapped the same way Syn tapped his Guitar Center Master Class solo (specifically the part that repeats). They sound very similar.
As a huge avenged sevenfold fan, this song imo: I was waiting for the single to be the way to call people's attention to the next album, and I thought that they were going to release a heavy ass song (remembering the good ol days), instead the single was totally different from what I had in mind, i caught me off guard and during the live stream showing the song I got disappointed. Now a day later and after listening again to the song multiple times I really enjoyed it, it has deep The Stage vibes which I don't mind because I personally love The Stage, and when I was worried about the heaviness of the songs I just calmed down and though "bro, the album must have at least 8 songs, of course it has heavy songs". Right now the only thing that is left to do is wait for the album and hope for the best, at least is was finally announced
Synyster Gates is still confusing all of us :D Love the song. Even if it has another style. It has a The Stage vibe . I am so excited for their new album !
The song as a whole reminds of Sunny Disposition from the last album. That solo though... the sweeping is amazing but the chromatics reminded me that Syn knows at least a little of Django Reinhardt stuff
I recall an interview recently where Synyster Gates said he wasn't going to do the show boaty fast guitar stuff anymore... Dude has style and jokes lmao
So good! And they are giving us a trilogy!!! Look at the track list. Why else would there be a song called G then the next two have the letters of GOD in parentheses
This sounds like a follow up of the stage, especially sunny disposition, so it's not exactly a different direction, not anything that has not already head that way in the past 6 years. I personally love it, having been a fan since 2003, let's face it hail to the king was a sort of a dedication album to their favourite artists growing up, Metallica, guns n roses.
i like the song, but it has the variation of hail to the king lol, also, the fact that you had to slow the solo down that much to even slightly understand what is going in is a show that synyster is truely one of the best guitarists of our time Edit: it definitely sounds like a combo of hail to the kings riff oriented songs and the uniqueness of the stage, super excited to see what they do with that
Lots of people have been commenting about Matts voice but I really dig it, I really think it fits the new proggy type thing they're going for. It sounds higher, which I really dig. He was already in my top 3 favourite vocalists ever, but honestly, he still is. As a prog metal maniac, i'm really eating this up lol. Great song, Matt still has it, and fantastic solo.
I love the more proggy and experimental sound they are going to. From someone who loves jam bands(especially the dead) I can dig the more jammy sound. Haven’t listened to a7x in a while but I might have to start listening again
Avenged has changed a lot to say the least. This song is absolutely amazing and I love how they keep their experimental vibe, like the stage. Like some dystopian theme-like music. I love how that background wail/bend type sound stays in time with the beat and what not. Overall it’s a great song! Avenged Sevenfold was able to keep holding on the the value that makes their songs replay-able! I love this new song, it’s a banger! Love you Nik! Keep it up!
Agree with everyone else - this song grows on you every time you listen. But even if you’re not super digging the song, the solo on its own is worth the price of admission
Enjoyed the new song. It's different, weird at times, but good overall. M. Shadows' voice will never be the same, but it's understandable after years of screaming. We liked how it fused so many elements of A7X over the years together. Excited for the new album!
@@heavenbent4pleather83 it’s not, it’s no where near the levels it was on sounding or even the self titled album, I’m not saying it’s bad, I enjoy it, but it’s nowhere near as good!
@@heavenbent4pleather83 I agree that his voice is fine and still good, but it's certainly not better than it's ever been. The tone in his singing seems to have taken a hit (understandable considering all the stuff he's went through) so it doesn't sound as bright, less power, and cuts a little less, but it still sounds good overall and fits well. Rarely do vocalists sound better with age past a certain point (middle aged)...You got a select few like say Devin Townsend, but it's certainly not the norm. Add in health complications and improper usage in previous years and vocal ability loss is almost bound to happen. One thing I will say is that his vocal control overall sounded very tight and that's a great sign!

Man, i saw that solo in front of me in Lisbon and i was never a big fan of this song but when i saw this song live i got another prespective from it,and watching syn play it like it is nothing was the main thing to make me learn this song
This song is amazing, can't wait for the album!
The more i listen to this song...the better it gets...just like the stage
I love it! it's weird, it's Avenged and that solo rips. Syns Solos are just everything I love about guitar.
That solo is very the human abstract nocturne era which I’m super happy with.
Honestly loved this song from the first listen, feels very rock opera
Guitar 101: the song *is* in drop D it just uses a very specific chord in the chorus called the reverse power chord, for example with standard tuning if a regular power chord is 3-5-5, then a reverse power chord is 3-3-5. So for drop tuning a regular power chord is 5-5-5 and the reverse power chord is 5-3-5.
I like it. Even thought it's not their best song, and I do not consider it to be a masterpiece, I think it is cool. Pretty original
Wonder if it’s basically an “intro” to the album…the way it ends gives me that vibe
@@edschobs5204 It's the 4th song on the album. So no... that would have been dope tho.
@@igorpodemski9596how'd you know this?
@@julianbaramuli167 It's the 3rd track on the album... and pre-order released the song names & amount of songs. If you're curious:

It's fucking brilliant. Every time I listen I love it more.
I really like this song, it’s different but the drums are nice and solid as always by Brooke’s. My question is how will they play this live because there seems to be a lot more electronic sounds added to this
backing tracks
not really if you think about it, only thing theyre adding is the orchestra and the distorted voice saying "nobody", its still got drums, bass, guitars and vocals
Just love how you picked it all up by ear so fast. Did my ear training exam today and you're so much better :D
Syn always delivers some off the wall solos and riffs 🤙🤘✊
Right now the only thing that is left to do is wait for the album and hope for the best, at least is was finally announced
syn’s solos are such melodic masterpieces. displays his skill and always suits the song
Synyster Gates is still confusing all of us :D Love the song. Even if it has another style. It has a The Stage vibe . I am so excited for their new album !
Saw this live a few days ago, holy god do I love this song even more. It's so good!!!!!!!
You may like the song or not, but that solo... DANG THAT SOLO. Syn is a Genius.
The song as a whole reminds of Sunny Disposition from the last album. That solo though... the sweeping is amazing but the chromatics reminded me that Syn knows at least a little of Django Reinhardt stuff
glad people are digging the new song! i agree that it's one of their best solos
That solo was straight fire. Syn is on another level
It’s interesting to see them go more into Prog territory: a big shift from the core stuff, but interesting to see nonetheless
Very Petrucci like
i really like it, loved the stage i think its some of synysters best playing by far and m shadows vocals have come a long way
this song just makes me so hyped for the album
I recall an interview recently where Synyster Gates said he wasn't going to do the show boaty fast guitar stuff anymore... Dude has style and jokes lmao
So good!
And they are giving us a trilogy!!!
Look at the track list.
Why else would there be a song called G then the next two have the letters of GOD in parentheses
Well I guess they’re “Creating God” again!
love these types of reviews. keep em coming Nik!
I thought it was pretty interesting and showcases the musicianship well, wish it had a bit more variation though
Variation? They had orchestra distorted part clean part. Do you mean riff wise?
Yeah
To be honest, Syn did his best Michael Romeo impression and fucking destroyed that solo. Really one of my favorite solos of all time.
It really is amazing how fast you can learn the solo just by hearing it without tabs !! Great work!🔥👏🏻
Love your vids man respect
This sounds like a follow up of the stage, especially sunny disposition, so it's not exactly a different direction, not anything that has not already head that way in the past 6 years. I personally love it, having been a fan since 2003, let's face it hail to the king was a sort of a dedication album to their favourite artists growing up, Metallica, guns n roses.
i like the song, but it has the variation of hail to the king lol, also, the fact that you had to slow the solo down that much to even slightly understand what is going in is a show that synyster is truely one of the best guitarists of our time Edit: it definitely sounds like a combo of hail to the kings riff oriented songs and the uniqueness of the stage, super excited to see what they do with that
the songs and all musical instrument goes unique ☠️ brilliant
Lots of people have been commenting about Matts voice but I really dig it, I really think it fits the new proggy type thing they're going for. It sounds higher, which I really dig. He was already in my top 3 favourite vocalists ever, but honestly, he still is. As a prog metal maniac, i'm really eating this up lol. Great song, Matt still has it, and fantastic solo.
I love the more proggy and experimental sound they are going to. From someone who loves jam bands(especially the dead) I can dig the more jammy sound. Haven’t listened to a7x in a while but I might have to start listening again
You'll enjoy The Stage a lot of you haven't listened to it yet!
Keep it up!
He's expressing the emotions of every guitarist right now. 😂 7:02
That solo is insane!!
His voice is fine. It’s better than it’s ever been. Take that to the bank
If your voice is fucked from screaming.. You've been doing it incorrectly.
Syn is LITERALLY the reason I started playing. Love him sm.
Never thought I’d hear Avenged Sevenfold return to drop C but man I love when they play in those deeper dropped tunings
Return? I thought all of their song was either drop d or standard.
The Ultimate Guitar team already released their official tab lesson. Might be updated but it sounds really on point.
love this song
just I warning: I really didn’t mind the song at first listen, but now I cannot stop playing it
At first I was almost disappointed by the song. And now after 10 listens I'm falling in love with it. God DAMN is Syn one of the best guitarists out there. His sweeps and the slides he throws in them are so clean and his composition skills are unmatched
I literally can't stop listening to the song since it dropped, brought me literal chills.
never been an a7x fan, and this song isn't gonna change that. but the solo was great
i know syn contacted charles caswell a while ago about using some elements of his guitar playing in the new avenged album, i can definitely hear it a bit
I am loving that Alice in Chains riff.
I'm so glad I found you through Spotify
Love the dedication, keep it up Nik!
that solo is fucking awesome and sentimental AS FUCK BRO, i love s gates
A7X is my fav band of all time but based off this single, I can’t bring myself to be set up for disappointment by expecting a banger album. I hope so bad it’ll be a banger, but I wouldn’t get hyped just yet. This single certainly didn’t wet my whistle for a new album that’s for sure
Yeah man totally agree I was very disappointed when I heard this.
The new song was so different, especially after Niks "how to avenged" video being SO CLASSICLY A7X SPOT ON, this was fun to watch. Seeing Avenged take a different route with this song but still be very much them.
The only reason I would hear this song again is because THE SOLO and Nik, cuz man... is kinda 💀
