Scourge Gaming And lots of people love CoD. Liking a game doesn't necessitate it being an overall good game. I like a lot of flawed games for the sake of the story, or just the game's charm, even though the games in themselves are broken.
AC has become a consumer ware. They half-assedly pump out a new game with the same mechanics each year, which ends up reducing the integrity of the first two. It's pretty much just like CoD, except they've been in the recycling industry for longer.

Science looks at gamers, and points at particular types of changes in relation to the type of game they play.
But here is the problem, these players were attracted to that type of game for a reason.
Why do some people prefer logic, puzzle type games and others like the quick twitch shoot em up games? what came first the chicken or the egg? maybe these people that like those puzzle games from the start are like that because their brains were already like this,
I real reliable test of how games affect the brain would be to study identical twins, before and after gaming, and where one plays action type games and the other puzzle logical games. only then for sure would we know if gaming has any effect on the brain, or if these people were already like that before they started gaming.
What about mature people?, I did not start playing MMO until I was in my late 30s never cared for console games.
My personal experience is, that I am able to make faster decisions in RL.
Another experiment that needs to be done is, with gamers vs. those that watch cat videos for the same amount of time. or watch tennis or golf on TV for over 3 hours a day. see what part of their brain gets developed clicking the remote.

Hey, man, don't take it personal.
He's just stating many people's reality, it might not be his, but you're not wrong either.
For example, I sort of fit your description, just that I live in a 3rd world country, I go to college, my dad's a business owner and stuff like that, and I have depression too.
But I'm lately not playing videogames because I know there are better things than that (sometimes).
And my depression gets released when I read a book (either the bible, book of mormon, fantasy novels -like The Book Eating Magician, etc.), when I get upset agains a certain subject and hit the notebooks so hard I score an A+ but the side effect is that I'm on fire desiring to pick a fight with my pillow or steam out in the Gym (My house with the floor and some push ups) and i'm moody the rest of the day or when I feel Inspired to do homework (Yet to learn how to trigger that one consciously and have an optimistic behaviour the rest of the day, even when mistreated by others.

I remember one day, early in the morning, on a school day, I was playing Minecraft, then when it was time to go to school, I got dressed brushed my teeth... etc., then I started walking to my bus stop, It was raining, and I literally tried to type, in real life, "/weather clear" (That's what you type in Minecraft to make it stop raining) then, I got confused for a second, then I realized I wasn't in Minecraft, so I laughed at myself a little, and continued walking to my bus stop, surprised that I tried to do that. I still remember that day, I remember it as if it was yesterday, it was one of the strangest days of my life.

we'll bang okay Depends the landscape you live in... If you live in more of an open area where there's not many landmarks, yeah... It's probably going to be a bad thing. But if you live in a city where there's a lot of landmarks, i guess it's not a bad thing. I personally think having a great amount of both is a really good thing, due to there being multiple routs to the same destination you're going to, you can use any rout you please if one rout is closed. I guess they both work together in a sense.

+opmc PLAYZ It's okay to play video games but we have to limit ourselves. We need to be aware of the negative effects of blue light. Too much exposure to digital screens can lead to eye damage. I was aware of eye strain resulting from spending hours in front of a computer screen, but for years I took great measures to protect my eyes with consistent breaks and exercise. My friend also recommended me an effective screen filter from ocushield. I've tried it recently and it works great especially at night time.

    It depends on which games.
If you're playing smash, you can possibly become more aware of your surroundings, act quicker, etc.

    • @printedcafe8304

That's irrelevant you make decisions quicker but what's the decision press fucking buttons and smash the stick. Gamers make decisions quicker but do they make the right decision? They usually have limited or 0 social skills so they don't know shit when it comes to a job or communicating with people face to face. The outcome of quick decisions is regret by the gamer and feeling as if "no one understands me" nonsense your just not well adjusted

I'm 35 years old. I used to be a huge gamer. Than one day I got an epiphany. I was spending this one life I have killing things in the virtual world 3-5 hours a day. Why? Why are so many games about killing? Our minds weren't meant to constantly absorb this. I would spend hours a day leveling up my characters in a fake world when I wasn't leveling myself up in the real world. We get a hit of dopamine every time we accomplish something in video games. But video games is a fake world. We're really not accomplishing anything. I got rid of all my games and I began to improve myself instead of improving a fake character.

I think it depends on your childhood, I personally grew up in the middle of the woods with nothing more than GI joes. I had a game boy for the longest time, but I would also leave it outside cause I would be to busy playing. Now I play them every day.. But some games do better than other. Fast Action games improve reflexes, sports games improve cooperation and team Understanding.. RPG improves economy comprehension, and over all patients.. The way I see it. Video games are hell of a lot better than sitting in front of the TV, at least we're engaged in something.. Not just tube zombie.

Second, I'm good at math (actually got an A in last high school exam in that subject). Third, my creativity levels rivals that of the author of Harry Potter (not as entertaining to read) Hunger games and with music I can write a whole book with coherence, original, and with never seen plot twists, depending on the message that the music transmits.

My issue is the compartmentalisation of logic/puzzle/platform distinct from action/rpg. Specifically, let's play Skyrim. Skyrim is an action-RPG where the game proper, and the meta-game of RPG elements both contain significant logical challenges. The game proper also contains a good spread of action, platforming, and puzzle challenges. Sure there are crappy paint-by-numbers corridor shooters that are on rails and present few challenges for their overbearing cinematics. However there are also wildly popular games that classify as action/rpg which are based around logic/puzzle/platform challenges which are based in open worlds that don't simply slot in to "navigating by landmarks" but also ingrain navigation by distance over time and create a large and dynamic mental map that is as rich and detailed or even more so as one you would create using public transport, driving, or riding a bicycle in real life.
If you are going to perform studies on gamers and gaming, it's just as important to realise the diversity, and commonly mixed variety of challenges of the most popular game titles, as well as studying down strict genre lines.
Because games don't honestly and readily fit that type of classification around which the studies were designed that were presented in this video.
Not the fault of DNews, just a lack of quality in experimental design on behalf of the researchers. Especially given the obvious attention their results were intended to generate.
Half assed science, half assed gaming. But still interesting regardless :D

I wonder if its due to the extreme reliance on visual ques when trying to find your wsy about a game world? You dont really have the sense of existing in a 3d space when playing a game, so you rely on landmarks to find your way about the world, skyrim for instance, I could probably tell you about where you are by looking at the surrounding area, but not how many feet you'd have to go to get to a place from a location...

Maybe it's only me, but i got less aggressive playing stressful and violent video games in the past 20 years. I learned how to handle my anger. For example, I died about 2000 times in Dark Souls. First it was frustrating, than it became a challange, than i knew i can beat anything with observtion and patience. It was similar when i played multiplayer games like call of duty. I was frustrated when i got killed, but i got used to it and learned that it's just a game and i can move on. Now I'm a project manager at multinational company. Working under high stress due to time schedules, technical issues, chasing sales and such. I never feel like these things stress me. When i do the best i can, but still fucked up, i feel no anger or disappointment. I learn from it and go ahead. My colleagues and employees love me because im always calm, i can stay focused under stress. Partially thanks to the video games i still play!

Mathdoesgamez Agreed. I particularly enjoy the challenge in speculating about the next games, because of the subtlety of Dragon Age lore. It's very much just putting together small bits of information to solve an entire puzzle, and I like that about lore-heavy games. It is sad that the same lore-heavy RPGs were grouped under the same category as action games, because they are so different in so many ways!

It's so weird because if you get a group of people together, there's pretty much a one hundred percent chance that the gamers are going to be brighter and more creative than the non-gamers, and yet there's always new studies like this that say gamers' brains are shriveling into raisins and their development is stunted on every level. I swear I think this entire viewpoint is based on the fact that when a player is concentrating on a game, his face goes slack and he can't respond to questions because his concentration is elsewhere. For years this phenomenon has contributed to the dim-witted opinion "those video games will rot your brain!" because every dingaling who has trouble with abstract thinking has no idea that the slack-faced gamer is super involved in saving the world, solving a puzzle, killing a dangerous opponent, outwitting Skynet, building a civilization, exploring outer space, you name it...
tldr: I think they cook the books and make this stuff up.

I play a action role playing game. Excessively. All day. Although i know I'm not supposed to do that. I'm not even 18 yet and my head keeps spinning all day long. I cant focus on studies plus I'm starting to have shaky hands. I want to leave this but I'm so badly addicted😭😭😭😭

As a kinda hardcore gamer, this infuriates me because not all gamers are no lives. Video games are the reason I am better at math and have faster reflexes. It doesn't make me a depressed, suicidal, stressed, obese, dumbass.
I'm not really hating on the video, I'm more of just hating on people that agree. Watching TV is way worse.

I agree that videogames can also improve our minds, But playing first person shooters all day long can destroy your brain and your vision My grades were horrible when i was addicted to video games, Then 3 months later i started having better and better grades.
    Study, you won´t regret it.

+Claudio Cunha Your grades where bad because you chose to play when you should study. The problem was your choices, not the game.

***** Yes, it is also true, But videogames can actually make you lose your mind...
If you get to the point when are completely addicted to videogames..
      It gets really bad...
It´s just like a drug, you just want to play, play and play.
You can also get fat, diabetes, lose your vision and other related health conditions...

Life is about balance the fact that you were addicted to something is the problem not that it was video games you could have been addicted to anything and still ended up with the same result don't say oh I'm addicted to videogames so my grades are bad say I'm addicted to something and I fucked up

In real life I started using a technique I use to navigate when playing open world games (most notably Assassin's Creed) where I would look at the tallest landmark and based on the angle and distance, I would create a 3D map in my head of the surrounding area and where my location is.

Excuse me? When I was 8 years old, I learned English as my second language by playing videogames and chatting with people in videogames. Now my English is better than 90 percent of the school(teachers included) and i have special education that makes 60 percent of my classes in English because my English was exceptional.

As a person who grew up in foster care, I will say this. One of the major things I did to cope was playing video games. It wasn't video games that made me want to fight. It was real people in the real word. And I chose to play a video game instead of fighting. So it's not going to brain wash us into thinking murder is ok, it's not going to make us think hey I get rewarded for robbing a bank in game so I can do it in real life. Many people like myself have played video games as a coping skill because of the reality of our real life. It's a escape. Wait? That's bad? That's not healthy? Ok so what about people who cope with movies and TV shows? What about people who cope by reading? They can escape to their false reality but we can't? And then there are people who play video games as a hobby. They play for the fun of it.

i stopped gaming when i was 16 years old. i was fine at first but i started to have withdrawal systems. I felt giddy at times and even un-content with myself. Felt like i was wasting, had difficulty staying awake even when i slept a full 7-9 hours of sleep. So i turned to drugs, thanks to drugs i am no longer addicted gaming. Thank you drugs for turning my life around

Games are indeed better than watching TV, since playing video games involves us and makes us participate and be active in reflexes, thoughts and memory, while TV is just entertainment that turns our brains off for a while (Of course depending on the content related to each kind of media)

I don't know, but I've played them for 20 years and while I can say that I see almost no negative effects, I feel I could have grown more if I had played instruments, sports, or read more in that time I used.

Wouldn’t different games exercise different brain muscles though. My gf plays 0 or 1 games, and I play many games with a lot of time in games that emphasize game sense, real-time strategy, and team-play; somehow I’m more spatially aware and get lost less easily than she. Could it be the games?

I do play Pubg and Fortnite for more than 2 years and I didn't noticed any violence signs in me, but my reflexes had improved so much. I do catch a glass before it hit the ground from a table, speaks real fast and my eyes they can grab information in seconds (say I can read data on ticket which is still printing and moving fast).

The real (and only) problem with gaming is, that it's just much better than real life. It's a place in cyberspace, a different plane of feeling and being, where you can completely lose yourself in and forget the pain of real life for a while. And once you discover that place, your brain never forgets. It becomes the only thing you really desire.

I remember when I was about 9 years old, I was studying using a book, I usually study using google and I remember what I did, I tried to zoom in, I literally tried to do that on my book, My mom was there watching me and asked me what I was doing and she laughed at me.
