- Here's how I fixed this surprisingly common Playstation controller problem! "Stick Drift" is a known issue with the PS4 Dualshock analog stick.. But not many users know you can actually fix your Playstation 4 controller stick drift! Watch and see how I did it...

Dude just reset the controller once a week and blow compressed air to the thumb sticks holes, or just blow hard with your mouth but be careful to no ''spit''
You can reset it with a needle in the little hole in the back for 10 seconds then connect it again to the ps4 thru wire.

@@JohnGlasscock hey I need your help my dualshock 4 v2 controller doesn't work anymore because I connected it to my samsung s8 the controller is 100% genuine because it came with the ps4 slim if I use a USB to connect it it will just show a yellow light telling me that its charging I've also tried testing the controller with that secret button and going to bluetooth devices and tried there nothing works for me hopefully you can find out.
@@JohnGlasscock also when I put ps4 in safe mode and try connecting the controller with USB it dont work I know USB & controller works it just doesn't let me

Something important to note, only bend the green part (it's called a potentiometer) open as little as possible and as few times as possible. Bending the metal that connects it to the circuit board will fatigue the metal and will break it if done too much.
Fixed my controller, feeling good.
Also fucked up all the wires to the vibrator. Now I can't use vibration, feeling cool.

Priceless info my dude! Thank you. I have tried to de-solder these in the past and it is a tedious task, but this will more than likely fix 95% of the sticks provided they are still on centre. The only thing you could have done better is, have posted this video in 2014 :) Regardless... Solid work man! Looks like a first gen controller? In the beginning , they were made with better quality Japanese parts. DS4's of today just don't stack up.

I knew that the sensor wheel makeup is essentially the same in most controllers, and this helped me fix an age old drift in my 360 controller.

Hi John, I wanna say thanks a bunch for the tutroiral.... I tried and was successful in just simply cleaning it.... I didn't have alcohol so I used Raw-unfiltered vinegar.
I thought it's also worth mentioning that at 1:33, you didn't say to remove the brown/orange string connector that you would need to remove before you flip the motherboard. I think that's necessary, but that's what I did.
I also cleaned the crevices of the controller and a few blows, just to prevent any dust and dirt build up again. Thanks alot for your video. 😁

It's easy to take apart granted it is not as scary to break open your controller when you have a second one on standby in case things go wrong.

The weakest bit in the chain is the track followed by the dust from it. Swabbing it with alcohol surely removes a layer of something which adds to its demise further down the track. Eventually you have to change the green bit and adjust it or it might still drift. This fix might give you some extra months of play as the new arm might run in a different arc and therefore new material, but it will be a minute change and short lived, but its worth a try. The two top pads on the wiper are centre reference and have little room to move anyway.
Chances are you've bought the whole Pot, so you have the track at hand if the new wiper doesn't sort the problem. The position of the legs of the pot in the board holes plays a part in the centre position that is probably registered in the pad software. I'm wondering if Win10 has the tools needed for us to adjust stick centre like the xbox software can. Temporary fit the pot with toothpicks and plug it in and check centre, twisting the pot left or right will move the centre position. I'm guessing a ohm meter might also be of some help to gauge quality as this can differ wildly. Playstation has never given us the software so we can edit position, hopefully it will be open source one day.

I've got two controllers with analog issues. Both are retired atm. I'm thinking about making 1 functional out of them. And when I go back to work maybe I'll buy parts and repair 2nd one as well. Thnx 4 the video.

The shop I work for; the technician's wouldnt want anyone watching videos like these because people could break their stuff bit also possibly fix it themselves if they're up to the task. You also made this look way easier than it looks 😂

I was literally about to toss my Scuf and Razor Raiju PS4 controllers because the left stick drift being so powerful. My characters would be stuck going forward and it would make it almost impossible to sprint in games that you have to click down the left stick while pushing forward. That’s 1500+ hours in Destiny 2 pvp and another 300+ hours in Warzone. Thank you for saving me from buying another controller and not tossing those two expensive ones! You’re the real MVP!! 🔥 💯🤙🏻

I tried a few resetting methods when my drift made the controller become unusable. Didn’t work, so I blew in the joy sticks a few times as a last ditch attempt to prevent opening it up. It worked perfectly lol! Sometimes the simplest fixes are the best one.

okay so when I pulled the first ribbon cable out the plastic bit and four of the little metal contacts ripped off the board. Any suggestions for resoldering such tiny bits? I already got them back into the plastic housing and set it back in place with all the other pins lined up. The tip of my soldering iron just isn't small enough to get onto just one pin at a time. Thinking about putting it in the oven but not sure how the plastic would fair.
Once i tried cleaning my sensor wheels but it wouldnt click on. After i rebuilded the whole controler, my charecter would spin around in circles. So i dicided to save some stress and buy a new controller instead

Awesome video man, I’m going to have to check out more of your channel. I’m trying to figure out what’s up with my newest controller (which is still about a year old), I played TLoU remastered and noticed Joel was jittering when walking. I did research, and switched to a different controller. It did fix the jittering but then played a different game with the first controller and now walking is jittery in other games. I had played Dark Souls 3 right before The Last of Us and it was fine, now it seems the left analog isn’t work right. Any tips to fix this?

Does anyone know if this will fix the L3 button not staying clicked? In some games you have to press and keep pressing L3 to run. In my pad, the character starts running then goes back to walking because my L3 is acting up. Or is this method only for drifting?

I have a weird version of the analog drift. If I press my L2 trigger, my character and or cursor moves upwards. Could it be fixed by cleaning the modules or should I get a new controller?
