@@denisohbrien I honestly don't get why old school manuals are still so popular in places like the UK. Basically all of the old negatives about them have been killed off by their development over the years. About the only thing they have over automatics is price, as far as the end user is concerned anyways.
As best as I can tell from this side of the Atlantic is that people like to stick with what they learned on (pun very much intended) and thus people learning only have what those cars to learn with and this continues as a cycle.

The owner of the Mazda MX5 must have issues with driving cars with manual transmissions. Funny how he had it for a few thousand KMs and needed a new clutch and then not long after that needing another new clutch. Says a lot about his driving prowess or lack thereof. I'd say it's been ridden to death. Some people have a very nasty habit of resting their foot on the clutch pedal while driving which causes needless clutch wear. MX5 driver perhaps also has a bad habit of not engaging or disengaging the clutch properly under certain loads which ultimately causes the clutch to burn out. I could almost see inside the bell housing of that gearbox in the clip. I could pretty much tell there may have been a lot of burnt clutch material within the bell housing and a lot of "clutch soot" as well. Definitely does not occur under normal wear and tear conditions. And not that quickly either. Under normal wear and tear conditions where the clutch has gradually worn out through normal use and through prudent driving, the clutch assembly would've had a good life and not been overworked or put under unnecessary stress, thus you wouldn't see all that burnt clutch material within the bell housing and you'll only see a small amount of clutch soot residue in the bell housing. There a difference between a clutch that's worn normally and a clutch that has worn abnormally from people's stupid driving discipline where their bad habits are as I forementioned earlier in this comment. Some clutches do fail prematurely due to poor design or manufacturing processes. That can happen. That I feel certainly didn't happen in this particular clip with that MX5. The abuse signs are all too obvious. The MX5 driver may not have meant for that to happen intentionally but it appears that he may not quite be up to the task with driving cars with manual transmissions. He perhaps may have only driven automatic cars and perhaps decided to try his luck with a manual. I say mission failed. Try again next time. Needs more training with manual transmission cars in order to be able to drive a manual car safely and effectively. And also be able to drive a manual car efficiently so that no problems with the clutch wearing like that one did will ever occur. Manual transmission cars have footrests as well. Use that instead of the clutch pedal for a footrest.

I just rolled over 300,000 miles and still on the same clutch I bought it with in 2001 at 89,000 miles so how in the hell can someone burn up a clutch in just 3,000 to 5,000 miles????
