Appreciate the video, but did I miss the part when the install was demonstrated? You removed the previous knob and then after a quick cut, the new knob was already on the shifting mechanism. Maybe the installation process is self-evident.
@@karlthorpe1289 For the all in one you have to cut the knob off the boot to reuse it. Or even better, buy a new boot leather as they are pretty inexpensive, and retain or sell your old shifter and boot.
Hi mate. Great content, love the channel. Just picked up my 996 C4 yesterday and over the moon. The return action on my shifter seems pretty weak in comparison to every other manual car I’ve driven - is this normal?
Hi and thanks a lot for the kind words. I would say no, not normal. The shifter springs back to centre in the 996 like any other manual car. It has a typical action across the gate. Of all of the cars I’ve owned including multiple Porsche’s I’ve not noticed anything specific that is different in the 996.
@@TheThrottleCable Thanks for the reply - good to know. I’m entirely new to the “P Car” world and there is a whole lot to learn. Came across a potential fix on the “Home built by Jeff” channel, for anyone else wondering. I’ll give that a try and report back. Keep up the good work :)
Just ordered my Rennline. Gear knob in black. Hope it will be with me for tomorrow.
Nice, I’m still very happy with mine 👍
I fitted one to my car after your video and love the feel of it apart from when its on a freezing day before the car has warmed up.....
Ha ha I know that feeling - heater fans pointing to shifter! It’s well worth it 😄
I'd swap the grub screws out for stainless ones so they don't stand out as much 😉
That’s a great idea 😁

It’s super simple as it’s just a grub screw that holds the new shifter on 👍
@@TheThrottleCable It appears my 1999 boxster the shifter, housing and boot are all one piece. I don't think I can screw a new knob on. Darn.

Think I recognise the bubble wrap. Had I know it was for you we could have done a better deal! Great video as always, keep them coming 👍
Thanks 👍
The leather’s starting to go on mine. Been considering getting this very one, i would have already if they did one with the gear diagram
You are right, it’s a shame they do not have that option
Thanx. I will get one too for my 2003 911 996
Adds a really nice touch for the interior! 👍
@@TheThrottleCable LOVE it! Thanx
You now need a Momo 07 wheel to go with that gear knob pal, the single best mod I have done for driving enjoyment enhancement.
it has been on my mind! I love the prototipo...
Timely video as I’m doing this install today !
Nice one, thanks 👍
Hi, really enjoy your channel, could you tell me who in the UK you got the shifter from or did you get it direct from Rennline?
Design911 is the UK reseller; I think you’ll struggle to get it cheaper directly (unless you happen to be in states) due to import taxes

No worries. I followed Jeff’s classic 911 RSR build series - bloody amazing!
@@TheThrottleCable That may have to be tonight’s bedtime watching.
@@BluCat86 Jeff's the man. I just bought the kit and am about to upgrade my 996 Cabrio. Best wishes.
Is there no way to have the nuts on the shifter facing the dashboard? Rather than the driver?
I’ve got one of the earlier ones that has studs on both sides; I understand the recent one has them only on one side now to hide them better 👍
How much does it weight?
I dont know the exact weight, but it's not 'weighted' as such. It's alloy so about the same weight as the [Porsche Tequipmnet varient
@TheThrottleCable hate porsxhe oem shape
Its between renline or 220 weighted black forrest indstries leather one
@@jdmjunkI’m completely with you on that, the OEM shape is all wrong!
Can you link the rennline shifter for the 996? I can't seem to find the right one
Just google rennline 996 shift knob - there are quite a few places sell them
