Hey, followed this, was really helpful! I was even able to get the plastic cut out just about perfectly based on some of your video screengrabs. Cage landed perfectly and the bracing in the plastic is as intact as could be. Quick tip if you're doing this in a 996.2 with a rain sensor / auto-dim mirror - take the mirror off! That mirror sticks out more than the manual flip GT3 mirror.
You MIGHT be able to walk the cage by the mirror, if you're clever, but I wasn't so clever, and now I'm replacing my windshield glass 😵 The slightest pressure on the mirror housing was enough to crack it pretty dramatically. Neither me nor my assistant could believe so little pressure would result in such a dramatic failure.
Popping off the mirror is 30 seconds work to split the plastic housing left/right from underneath with a trim tool or flathead, and then a small pry on one of the side metal clips you can then see with a flathead. It can then hang on its wiring and be out of the way. It's so easy to do and not worth the risk. There's a good Rennlist thread with pix if needed. If you're been able to get the coat hooks, seatbelt cover, and door cards off, you can do the mirror without batting an eye.
Glass for these cars is getting scarce, so take care!

If you want to put that plastic piece back in the center on your rear seat area, I found a nut that fits the torques bolt and then the plastic piece fits back on!

I have enjoyed your various videos. Each to his own of course, but I have never seen the need to fit roll cages etc. I don't track cars (had enough track competition experiences in the distant past 😅). The standard car is pretty good and I drive nowhere near its limits on public roads and I don't recall seeing any car roll over either. However, keep the videos coming.
I can be honest - I like the ‘look’ of it. Improves the drama and event of taking the car out for a drive. I’ve no plans to roll it over to test it out! 😁

Glad mine was pre-fitted! What harnesses (if any) do you plan to fit? Mine came with from factory but at some point in it's life they've been removed, looking at reinstalling some Schroth 6 points for track work at some point!
If i'm being honest with myself I've done it primarily because I like the look; I'm unlikely to run the harnesses unless I pick up a Hans brace (i'd rather stick with the 3 points without Hans). I've got some Schroth and yes that is exactly what I would recommend.

Thanks for the video, helped alot! I found the wing mirror wasn’t in the way in my 997.1 GT3. One question, did your GT3 have the bar in it? Mine appears to be touching the seatbelt pillar covers which limits their movement. In this video you seem to have slimmer covers which I guess are standard in the 996? My old 996T had the same bulky covers as the GT3
I’ve only had this in the 996, my 997 GT3 didn’t run a cage. However this bar in a 997 should sit well clear of the b pillar - I have a picture of the same cage in a 997 turbo…
