I just finished installing the kit and Alpine speakers, and my 996 sounds amazing! Thanks so much for the post. I'll be sharing it on Rennlist as guys are spending thousands and a simple set of dash speakers and the Paulie kit are all you need for a 100X improvement. I originally put the kit in upside down, but thanks to your video I was able to correct it and they slid in perfectly. Thank you !!!!
Just done mine today went with pioneer cheaper option but still huge improvement , thanks for your Vid, keep the coming , looking to improve light set up 😊
just did this yesterday with the kit from superpaulie, what a huge difference. I have the same hi fi system as you, not Nokia speakers. The process was simple and clean. Getting those screws out near the window was a pain and had to cut out some of the material behind the rear speakers, as the magnets on the Alpines are much bigger. Agree the old door woofers seems to be helping/performing better with these. Massive upgrade :)
Welcome back! Great to see a video from you again :) Perfect timing for me, I just removed the rear side panels to change the seat-belts - I wasn't planning to change the speakers...but maybe now's the time! 🙂
Good to see you back. We missed you!! A great video Rob, although, It would have been great to have heard some royalty free music as a before and after comparison. But I'll take your word for it and so I might dabble with using the same kit as the sound quality in my 996 is lacking, to say the least. Thanks for leaving the gaffs in too.
Cheers Will - to be honest hearing the sound third hand recorded in my car and played back through your phone/computer/tele probably wouldn’t be representative of the quality anyway - but I promise they are a decent step up on stock audio!😁
Hi Andrew, I’m not sure which little subwoofer you reference. My car has no sub, just the six speaker configuration two in dash, two woofers in doors, two in rear cards.
@@andrewsilverman7954 as long as you have the correct harness it will work fine with the 4 or 6 speaker setup. In the 4 speaker setup you’re running the speakers straight from the head unit, in the 6 speaker setup you are still utilising the amp in the frunk (via the line level converter in the harness, like my setup).
Love the content! So glad you're back. I've been upgrading mine at a similar pace to yours! Any plans on changing out the door speakers? They're quite massive, always wondered if it'd also save some weight.
Thank you 😊 regarding the door woofers I was not planning to change them. They actually seem quite good vs the full range speakers and I’m happy as is. However I know a few owners have replaced the woofers and upgraded the stock amplifier with good results. Depends how far you want to go 😁
Get a pccm÷ from your local dealership. It is a lot but adds modernizing to the 996. Mine is BOSE and works great. Also porsche still sells those speakers and they're are not unreasonably priced. Did the 4 speakers in my daughters 986S that go behind the driver.
Just fitted new dashboard and rear speakers and thanks to your guidance it was really easy and has made a significant improvement to the sound even with the original head unit. Do you have any plans to replace the door speakers? Thanks Rob.
I was going to leave the door speakers ‘as is’ as they seem to sound ok. If I hear a car with them changed and it’s a significant upgrade then maybe I will!
Handy video, thanks! Any reason you went for 4-ohm speakers instead of the original 2's? I'm guessing it doesn't matter so much if you change them all at once?
@@TheThrottleCable Actually, I've literally just been tearing the car down and am mid-way of installing the PCCM Plus, I took the front dash speaker out as part of the cable routing and noticed it's a 4ohm unit, that makes my life a *lot* easier, looks like I'll be following your guide even more closely after-all :) I also purchased one of the Bose rear parcel shelf bass boxes, which looks like it'll be possible to wire into this amp too, so hopefully this is going to sound great when it's finished! :)
Has anyone replaced their BOSE speakers? Would love to know if there was improvement Already have aftermarket excelon reference head unit. Bose speakers sound a bit boomy
Anyone know if this solution (I mean the speaker connections and speakers etc) will work for a Bose system conversion? I know that it will not solve for the door speakers… but hoping this can update/upgrade my dash and rears. I already added the PCCM+ head unit.
@@TheThrottleCable I have heard that both dash speakers and both rears are 2 Ohms. Is that your understanding? If so, and I was able to find speakers with that, then I would just need to make sure that they had the same/similar depth and dimensions of the ones you have confirmed to fit?
@@davidpatterson5447 to double check just take a speaker out - the ohm will be printed on the rear of the magnet. Then it will just be a like for like swap with the correct ohm speaker to work with the existing setup.
Hi, was hoping you could assist me with an issue, I’ve done as you did in the video, same process and speakers, but now the front ones don’t work, and the back ones can’t take high volume for their life, the door speakers have not been replaced. Any thoughts on the possible causes and solutions? Edit: Turns out the Rear ones decided to sound outstanding now. The dash still has no power and must find some good replacement for the doors.
This sounds like it could be dodgy connections, especially as the rears are now working again. Have you tried to remove them since to check the condition of the cables and connections? That would be my first move 👍
Next move would be to process of elimination. Test all the new gear works. Eg try speaker that was working in a position that wasn’t. Try cable adapter that was working in a position that wasn’t. See if the problem travels or if it’s with the existing kit in the car.
Maybe you can help me? I’ve gone an ordered the kit and adapters but the alpine speakers are now nigh on impossible to get, anyone here recommend anything else
The important thing is the depth of the speaker, as long as you keep to the 45mm speaker depth you can use anything you want. Just look at the spec sheet of any given speaker to check the clearance before you buy 👍
I have the stock woofers in the doors from the original sound package. It could be improved with a subwoofer but I don’t really want/need to go that far
I had a good run out at the weekend in the 996, and the new speakers have made a marked improvement to the sound and volume in the cabin. Especially given the modest price point 👍
Couple of points. The new speakers have inbuilt tweeters so it’s not necessary. Also the new speakers are a step forward in terms of performance, so linking in old tweeters would likely negatively impact the resulting sound.

Good work Chris! Other than that crappy screw by the screen it’s pretty easy right. The mounts make a proper job of the swap. 🙌
