Funny story. A few weeks ago, my wife drove from our home in Santa Fe NM to visit her cousins in Houston Texas. 900 miles each way. She called me in a panic from Houston. She had locked the key fob in the trunk, and the car was locked. (Note: I should’ve sent my key fob with her as an extra.) Thankfully, I had joined AAA and told her to call them. The technician arrived and was able to open the door, but not the trunk, as the key fob had locked. She opened the pass- through on the back seat and was able to reach the fob. Successful, and lesson learned.
That was lucky then haha!
I had exactly the same experience. I also left the key fob in the trunk and shut it. Had to call a locksmith, he unlocked the door, not a quick task, and I took the key from behind the backseats. Grocery shopping gone wrong.
Gr8 - I think the cord maybe a Saftey feature for someone stuck in the boot!
Perfect...found that and popped trunk from inside...this video Saved!!! the day.
Glad it helped!
Many thanks, very helpful when my battery was flat this morning!
Glad to help!
Hey George. I don't know why they stopped this feature on the f20 generation. I had to film a video of using a screw driver to move a lever in the mechanism :) keep up the.good.work
Yeah it’s easy enough on the F20 though!
Nice one pal, your the main man on these BMWs 👍
Great video thanks, i have learnd a pretty usefull trick
Glad to help!
Reminds me when i was trying to get into a friends 1998 Merc SLK with a flat battery 😁
Are you sure this works on a 1series coupe.I had the same problem a while ago but I could fold the back seats down from inside and there was no bloody keyslot on the boot anywhere.
You need to do some more content on this engine George, oil change, coolant etc
I’ve already made all those videos👍🏻
Thank you man, you saved my day (my battery died )
Followed all the steps but the key blade is failing to turn and unlock the door, what could be the problem?
I have a physical key for my x5 but it no longer works so I'm locked out of car. Key has electrical fob built in but apparently fob battery is deaf! What do I do?
So my 2013 X3 F25 was dead!! Nothing worked. Nothing opened. I crawled in the hatchback to access the battery and I had a portable pocket jumpstart lithium ion pack and I left it on overnight. Which work like a champ because in the morning there was just enough of a charge and the battery to actually open the hatchback and open the hood.
Excellent George!
Thank you man! It really helped
Hey man, is there anything like this that can be done on the newer models? E.g. 2019 Z4 that has no back seats and only a rabbit hatch?
dont have cord there, how its possible, no other way to open the door?
How to do unlock the boot on BMW 118d convertible?
Just loosened up my boot latch as it was sticking and couldn’t for the life of me figure out what that cable was in the rear door 😂 now I know. Any videos on how to remove and clean the egr? Rather than blanking it!!
unbolt and soak it
Watch my video cleaning it👍🏻
Thanks dude 😊
thank you
Always good to know in hostage situations 👍😂
😂
I hate these electronic releases for everything its always another failure point, my mrs bmw 1 series 55 plate almost identical as yours has just had the wipers stop working and headlamps keep coming on when the car is locked. I think the auto wiper and auto headlamps sensor is knackered.
THE CAR STILL.HAS TGE BATTERY, REMOVE THE BATTERY 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very useful thank you
Doesn’t work on 238xi bmw 2007??
WOW thnxs really man good tip;) and same on fuel tank;)
Yep that’s right!
@@GeorgeAusters do you know code P0012 can be gone if I change both camshaft sensors? on my bmw 1 series 06 modell. I change camsensor on intake but now also the exsos side and the car runs better on idle;)
What if n-o acces to The boot??
My touring doesn't have that lil cord bud? E91 2007, had to climb in lift the floor up to get access and then fidget and f#@k around to get dead battery out, drag new one in...... major shite for the sake of a keyhole!🤦♂️
They do mate. You need to remove the carpet bit on the tailgate then lift and flap and there is the cord👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters I'll get familiar, fair play!
Jeez what a life changing knowledge!!
Haha thanks man
For some utterly stupid reason, BMW did NOT put manual locks on either the E39 And E46 touring. My 1999 528i Touring battery went flat, only way in was manually open the drivers door, as soon as the drivers door is opened the alarm goes off. In addition the cars battery was SO flat the car was completely unresponsive to the unlocking of the key on the fob... and I couldn’t do anything to turn the alarm off until the next day when I got a jump pack to disarm it. Stupid designs!
Great information thank you !
Doesnt work if car is locked. Its a deadlock and blade doesnt open door if battery dead
What model is it mate? I see is a n52 ...
130i
@@GeorgeAusters do you know what models had n52 engine... i tried wikipedia but don.t look that precise
Can't open the trunk of a saloon Renault safrane 2014 with a dead battery :( There is no key slot at the back and the seats do not fold down. Battery won't jump start.
Don't need to jump start, just need power to the battery then use the key fob or button inside the car
@@GeorgeAusters yep tried that. The car doors no can be unlocked with the key fob but not the trunk. The trunk buttons on the key fob, driver side door and on the trunk itself won't work.
👍🏼
🙌🏼
❤❤❤
Doesn’t work in the likes of E82 and E92. They don’t have a latch to pull the seats down, so the only way is it to add power to the jump start connections. Had to do this when someone closed the boot when the battery had been disconnected 😂
Have you checked the key hole underneath the tailgate?
@@GeorgeAusters E82 has no keyhole and E92 does but even if the battery is flat or disconnected you need use the jump connectors
I wish it was this easy on an e90... no key, no key blade in the boot and no fold down seats... battery went. Had to have window broken to gain entry for delivery.. unlock and open rear doors.. pull up bottom bench seat.. undo bolts for back bench seat, access to boot gained.. engine was out at the time and needed to get battery and parts in boot put there for storage out the way. Yeah. I over complicated it for myself. But stuff was locked in the boot and was already disconnected for the engine removal and rebuild. I did get rhee in the end. how have a made this easier for future? I have a blade key 😂😂😂 but that won't let me into the boot. However the engine is in and battery connected and just need jump leads lmfao
There’s a key slot underneath tailgate by number plate lights
@@GeorgeAusters you'd think.. but not on mine!. And some even have drop down seats.. nope.. not on mine.. others even have the kidnap latch on the inside.. nope. Not on mine! Lol
it looks lowered here
M-sport suspension is pretty low on the 1 series
Doesnt work on a 2015 X5 !!
Welp I don't have neither foldable seats nor physical key fob, guess I'm fucked
Which model do you have?
@@GeorgeAusters e90 lci, pre-lci models had a key fob in the trunk but they got rid of it on the later ones
Have you checked underneath?
@@ivann97x My solution to that was to run metal wire from emergency handle line (located under the boot trim) to underneath the rear seat. You can route the cable under the boot trim then jump to upper part of your boot to hide the wire, then just before seat bring it down and push under the seat. Not ideal solution but if you disconnect battery and close the boot you won't be fked, just pull metal wire hard enough from interior and you're done.
💪👍
Cheers mate

Are - you - FRIGGIN' - KIDDING ME?! Whichever engineer(s) proposed this and exec(s) allowed it should be SHOT! There should be a LAW that REQUIRES: a) internal manual release level near driver's seat (like, oh, idk, the ones ALMOST EVERY vehicle already has for hoodm, gas lid and (if appl.) trunk???) and/or b) external key hole! Cuz obvy whatever "competition" there is in the car industry has NOT been enough to motivate them to do it on their GREEDY/CHEAP-ASS own! I guarantee if even ONE U.S. senator / congressman and/or his wife / daughter / etc. had to do this much less figure it out to begin with much less at night in the dark (cuz, you know, battery's dead?!), with a full cargo area, in the rain / sleet / hail / freezing cold / scorching heat, etc. they'd be sponsoring a BILL ASAP to REQUIRE a MUCH EASIER MANUAL POWER TAILGATE RELEASE!
There is a button to release by your feet but it requires power
@@GeorgeAusters Then why are you mentioning it??? My comment and not to mention *your* own vid title and description all literally specifically refer to "Dead Battery" (i.e. when there's *no* power).
Hi George, what would you suggest to do to get in the car if the car battery is completely flat and the manual key is not opening the car either?
The manual key will work, are you turning it the right way?
@@GeorgeAusters I've got the same issue on my E39, presumably my battery went completely dead and now I'm totally locked out, neither the key nor the remote work on both the door and the boot lid.
Update, maybe a little late, but changing the battery worked, I got access to the car through blinker wires on the front fender and turning the key to unlock position on the boot, battery was too dead to even unlock the doors or the trunk.
Extremely useful thank you!!!!
You’re welcome!
