I own a new 2023 MT 09. I was riding at high speed, the road surface had slight corrugations over taking a bunch of vehicles. All of a sudden I experienced the steering head wobble. Let me tell you its frightening. It happened without warning, if your not prepared or holding the handle bars bloody tight & don't have super fast reflexes, the bike will shake uncontrollably throw you off. It frightened the need for speed in me instantly. I have since installed a new steering damper kit & can now ride at high speeds with control & confidence. The damper has a incremental adjuster dial to provide variable resistance to your liking of the steering head. They don't call it the "death wobble" for nothing.

Holding the bars tight is absolutely the last thing you should do. Tank slappers happen in the first place because of overcorrection, when the front wheel is knocked out of alignment and shoots back towards center, overshooting it. Gripping the bars tightly amplifies this problem, and likely made the wobble that you experienced a lot worse than it normally would have been.

I’m really torn between getting it and not. I’m in the habit of tucking my weight forward to put a bit of pressure on the forks and I really don’t ever go above 110. Never had an issue but that thing sure looks cool. I’d like to test ride a mc with it installed.

I had a few tank slappers on my R6 as well when I just started riding super sports, but I don't think they're necessary after a few years of experience.

On most bikes they are useless, they are covering for a problem that does laws somewhere else, many times I've had to tell people to do the fing bearings in the head and/or front wheel and a wheel balance. But noo buying shit is better than fixing stuff.

Just installed a damper on my gf's n400. That thing wobbles a little if the highway is having a bad day. Definitely dont want either of us to have to find out what it takes to go full tank slapper on it

My 03 sv1000 has one below the triple tree from factory and my 02 R1 doesnt have one and at higher speed the R1 feels more stable so i havent messed with it yet.

i have a 2020 ninja 650 and it’s always felt super solid and smooth when i’m riding. Now i do want to get one just to rather be safe than sorry but, do you think getting a steering damper on a 650 that only tops on at 125 extra?

I got a tank slapped once I let go of the throttle and was going in a road that was straight flat and going to a uphill road and the speed drop from 90mph to 75mph to 68 then it stop .... I pulled over on the road to take a breather lol 😂😆 honestly super scary 😲

They come with steering dampener’s they’re just shitty steering dampener’s. I can’t because you were about to 600 hey 750 yes but since you’re riding a Gixxer, it’s probably not even hooked up. It’s probably missing a screw.🤣🤣🤣😂😭
