The flute from Super Mario Bros 3 used the tune that originated from the flute in the first Legend of Zelda. Zelda had it first, so it belongs to Ocarina. Also, same composer, so he could put it in whatever game he wanted like KK does for his one particular song that's been in Mario Paint (an easter egg), Link's Awakening (an easter egg again), and Animal Crossing.
