Can you guys add me in the future compilations? ty
(Hopefully, this isn't a truly eternal joke and is yet to be realized, or so I thought...)
Can you make a video for visual novels too, many of us are highly interested in that. Like tell us about different VN engines, inspiring VN games, etc.
@@freshmagnettv Thanks for the suggestion! What are some of your favourite VN games?
@@AskGamedev the most awesome visual novel according to me is katawa shoujo. Other awesome titles include Clannad, Fate Stay/Night, Kana Sister, and there are many more. There are also masterpieces that haven't been released outside of Japan but are slowly being released by having fan translations.
Can u suggest me good app developing softwares except android studio and mit app inventor
6:45 made by a 16 year old, so remember "It doesn't matter how old we are and we don't need the support of a major studio for a successful title". Although, major support from parents would probably help :P
Can confirm as 16 year old dev 😂
My mom believes that game dev and programming is useless.... 13 yo game dev
@@chrisnao1760 First question my dad asked when I said I want to try making video games is "how much will you make monthly?"
Support doesn't necessarily means money
Most parents are shit with computers.
You missed Pinstripe by Thomas Brush, who is also creating Once in a Coma. :)
Small nitpick: Project M is a mod of Brawl, not Melee
Soon mine will be on this list
I just came by this channel and love it.
Man wasn't expecting Doki Doki to be on here but Im glad it is
I hope to see my upcoming game in your next "Single Developer Games" episode :)
wow You made a part three I am so happy that you listen to fans about what videos to make this series is the most inspirational series in the world to developers. You even fixed the problem with the second video, which was that you didn’t mention what game engine each game was made in. It was in the first video. But not in the second which sucked. But hey look it’s in the third. Good job guys. I didn’t expect to get something I wanted to happen this deeply. I love this channel so much I will now even ring the bell to be notified for new releases. I was already subscribed so I’m updating to bell notified from now on.
Amazing video as always.
I have to congratulate to those solo devs. I wish I will make my own game in the future.
I am working on one now. Watching these give me hope and thrive to succeed
So glad that Unturned finally showed up in this. Was certainly one of my biggest inspirations for game development. Nothing kicks you up the ass like seeing someone younger than you succeed.
All the games this time are really popular ones. Wow.
I need this video, thank you.
oh my goodness. I had no clue to the moon had minisodes!!!! I dunno if I'm ready for that but one day when I want a good cry I'll have to check them out
I knew Unturned was going to be on there. It was the first game I ever got on steam and I loved it and love it to this day.
Can you take a look at Cube World. Would love to learn more about the creation/designs of it. Its also a husband and wife game.
Pretty motivating.
Where's the game: the first tree, it was a successful indie game
Great video!
Wow, there are all so cool! Last year I was working on my first game with a couple of friends. We quit because it was waaaay to large in scope. Now I'm trying to make one game every week for the next few months by myself to gain experience. Later this year I want to make my first sellable game. I want it to take about 3 months. Hopefully I can manage that lol.
These are all very inspiring to me! Would love to see another video in this series!
Good luck on your project!! :) Hope you achieve what you want!
@@aapp-n7d Thank you! Hope you succeed as well!
That's awesome - and it sounds like you'll be learning a lot in the coming months. Good luck and keep us updated with your progress :)
@@AskGamedev Thank you! Once I'm finished I make a video talking about what I learned from creating the game.
Keep making videos!
@@AntiqueGear hi, can i pm you somewhere, i was thinking of developing a game too, and i needed a friend to exchange knowledge and experience
So cool, awe inspiring.
I hope to be in a Similar List some Day :D I'm also a Solo Dev, and i'm making an MMORPG
Iconoclasts reminds me of the old Flashback video game from 1992. It also reminds me a little of Moonlighter in the animation aspect.
I'm a new subscriber and I would like to ask you if you have any great advice on best 2D Sprites creating techniques that make it easy for beginners. Can you make a video on Sprites creation.
round 4 please!!!!!!!!
Hi, nice series, thank you. 1 mayor fault! V & Terry Cavanagh originated on the ZX Spectrum 48. That's why he has these silly colour schemes. The Commodore versions are a port. Regards, Mac
i think we can now add forager in the list
it's a cute small idie and idle game made by hopfrog
God I just wanna make a square move around lol this is so inspiring
Woah there's a 3rd one! well I'm still going to say Soldak's games!
Aka the dudes who make the smooth clean animations
Can you please make a video about ADS in mobile games? Thank you.
Can't wait for my game to be on that list.
Releasing soon™
At least this one does not dissappoint.
I started playing Geometry dash in 2015 im no longer playing it, but it was my inspiration to make games, I can't imagine writing a single line of code in my life if i never sow or play this game
@Ask GameDev I am now studying game design at University, but once i watch thought this video i learn that to make a good indie game you need to take your time.
Sadly University don't know this concept we have 14 weeks to make a high quality game and we have 4 other classes, we also need to focus on.
Any tips to work faster,
ps; game need to be in 3D.
They're teaching you time management...
Hello which platforms, programmes do you use for making your animated RUclips videos?
another one!
Hyperlight Drifter? Really good game
Hey hey can u suggest any platforms for app development rather than android studio .....
Antichamber kinda reminds me of HyperCube.
Exiled kingdoms for android and iOS it is an amazingly complex dungeon crawler and has happily zapped away over 100 hrs of my time
I love Solo videos)))))0)0)0)0)
0:36 Why did you spell below wrong (I know its a small thing but yea)
I am commerce student.I want to become game development. But how to take the degree for game development
To the moon was not developed solely by Kan Gao.
By the way the source code of VVVVVV has been made public by the dev and can be found on GitHub
github.com/TerryCavanagh/VVVVVV
So I am planning on making a 3D game myself but I was wondering if something like that wil take long as a single developer and if it's hard?
CG depending on the language that you’re using, I suggest unity and it will be hard most likely but it gets easier along the way as u learn more
Depends, 2D is generally easier and faster to make but it also heavily depends on game engine, the game's complexity and the time you want to spent on the game project per day.
If you didn't made a game before then it probably will be hard at first but starting with 3D most likely would yield a lot of useful experience to you (so is 2D games, but in general 3D games are harder to make cause it involves more work with graphics)
Don't be afraid from failure though, I admittedly only made very few prototypes before I finished my first public game but I'd say the fun I had with the development and the 250$ I got for being 15th in a contest paid it of well and got very useful feedback on how to improve my future games, honestly a game with only 32 manhours can look amazing and charming for people if done right.
@@ColonelDoge Thnx I think i'm gonna make something like a test for both 2d and a 3d game and look at the results.
The problem is the game engine. I don't know how to code so maybe I wanna do it with unity or unreal. And don't know yet.
@@@marruk7608 No problem I'm glad to help, from experience you should learn some basic programming the main reason is that basically block-building based engines are sure great and fast without learning but trust me they become very limited later and switching to actual programming from block based 'coding' is much harder, another reason is once you have some experience with programming it becomes a lot faster to create games and essentially you gain experience which could be used from outside of game development too.
both Unity and Unreal sounds like a good choice, Unity uses C# and javascript which are easier to learn while Unreal uses C++ which is somewhat harder to learn but should offer more compatibility, i started with a noname free engine named Foxkit which is unsurprisingly I can't find anywhere anymore but it was so bad that I had to rewrite the engine at the degree that I could say I created my own game engine, so yeah another useful recommendation is to avoid noname game engines.
I wish you luck with game development and hopefully it will be great!
@@ColonelDoge thnx I hope so!
I have really so many great ideas for developing a game but I don't have accessories for the purpose. My PC just sukks.
Best game on this list is "doki doki literature club", it's a classic, go play it.
Pinstripe is one of them
Creator is a youtuber as well
You should've added it
Mr. Markovic,
What happens when you deep fry a baby? 🤔
David szymanski:is DUSK a joke to you
I love Unturned!
We do too!
Three videos on the subject, but still no mention of TimeSpinner?
Sad day.
Hey thanks for bringing this to our attention! We'll have to feature TimeSpinner in Part IV :)
Anyone familiar with a game - it's hardly a game, more of an exploration. You fall through layer and level after layer and level, changing direction and orientation constantly, going on and on apparently limitlessly. It's drawn in simple lines, done by a single developer, over years. I don't even know if it's been released or finished. I saw it in March of this year. Anyone seen it, know its name?
are there any best games that are developed without writing a single line of code(visual scripting)?
Where are my boys cookie clicker and candy box damnnn
Forgot about the greatest solo-developed game ever, Computer Virus Simulator. But that's okay, people keeps forgetting about that gem for some reason.

Please make top made with unity

Is Konjak losing blood from his ear?

Disapointed kenshi isnt on the list

As someone stated before: Project M is a Brawl mod, NOT a Melee mod. Please do your research before saying stuff on your videos. Other than that, cool list.
What about minecraft?
Where is Sally face

Hi, thanks for the video. You said “we’d love to help”. Ok, well I’m a software engineer with 30+ years in game development and I’m working on a big new open world iPhone app and I need an artist. Do you know any who would partner? I have A LOT of programming experience, but I’m fairly incompetent when it comes to drawing. (Like Clint Eastwood said, “A man’s got to know his limitations”)
brother what type of mobile games liked more by people.
These games are major accomplishments, but videos like this continue to perpetuate the myth that games can be made by a single person. None of these games were solo developed (many of them list credits of artists and others on the team), and videos such as these continue to paint unrealistic expectations for people entering into game development.
YES GEOMETRY DASH IS IN THE LIST!
Sorry if it's already been stated...but PLEASE!
NO FLASH GAMES in your lists going forward.
Please stick to modern game engines...
Other than that...
You guys rock!

How is Doki Doki in the same video as Jet Set Willy? lol. Come on.

i would suggest Baba is you .
Awesome suggestion! Baba is You is so innovative - such a treat to play.
ddlc brought back the trauma
Nothing like walking in the door, sitting down to rest my sore feet from my 9-5, flip on the RUclipss, only to learn that a 16-year old made millions doing the work I want to do. If 5% of those downloads resulted in someone buying the $5 upgrade, he made six million dollars. He can literally retire now. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the kid, just wish I wasn't such a shmuck sometimes lol
where's undertale on this list
It was in a previous episode.
Spoiler so you don't think I'm just being negative from only reading the top of the comment:
I've resubscribed (and hit the notification bell) and I'll tentatively re-continue watching your new videos now on.
I unsubscribed from this channel and had stopped watching your videos many months ago, despite generally watching every major and minor gamedev channel on RUclips. I'm a professional game developer (meaning I pay my rent by making and designing games), so most all of the content on this channel is hardly new information to me, but initially I still watched because I like to support small gamedev RUclips channels, and I watch a _lot_ of RUclips in the background while I work, eat, travel, cook, clean, shave, even shower..., etc. So I watched, and even popped into the Discord because it's cool to see and support small communities. I've certainly been in similar situations so I like to show support where I can.
However, I'd find myself getting really annoyed by your videos because it felt like so much of them was filler. The most aggravating part to me was the super cringey "AKA" section at the start of the videos. It's all well and good to have a unique style and running gag, and it seemed like you guys found it fun which is all that really matters in life, but for me it always drove me nuts and put me in a very negative mood for the rest of the video. But disregarding that one specific gripe, the general feeling of the overuse of filler was very palpable for me. I just went back to check with the old video "7 Game Design Mistakes to Avoid!
", where the actual content doesn't begin until 1:22, in a less than 10 minute video. Some videos had an even worse filler-to-content ratio in my eyes. So eventually I got kinda too annoyed, realizing that watching these videos was having a more negative impact on me than a positive one, so I unsubbed, left the Discord, and stopped watching.
This is the first video of yours I've seen in quite a while, and while it's still certainly the same, it feels a lot more matured, most notably to me with the removal of the cringey "AKA" intro gag. It's a seemingly "little" thing, but it's significant. The filler time could still be reduced in my eyes (Mainly, I think the sub-begging should go at the end of videos instead of start, but that's just me... I know you really have to do that as a RUclipsr trying to grow, but I think you should *show don't tell* why someone should subscribe by providing a nice video first, and then ask for subs after), but the filler is a lot less than before. From my previous example, the intro filler is literally cut in half, from the 1:20 (80 sec) intro for 7 Game Design Mistakes, to 0:40 (40 sec) before the start of the content here. I left this video with a much better impression.
So, yeah. That's my "hot take". OooOooh. I've rusubbed (with bell otherwise what's the point), and rejoined the Discord because why not, and I'll recontinue watching. I know that was a lot of text, but if you're interested in the thought process of a gamedev who stopped watching your channel and is now returning, there's that.
Regardless, I hope you're doing well and having a grand old time. I know the going gets tough. I hope you're handling it okay and are happy. I do genuinely wish y'all the best of luck in all your endeavors.
Sincerely, G
*Bonus:*
If you'd like to know what would boost my respect for this channel _immensely_, please make a video talking about yourselves. I recommended this in the Discord months ago (in the #ag-video-suggestions properly not just in general or something) when I was first in there and it got completely ignored, but I'd love to hear about you guys as a game developers. In your channel intro I remember you saying that you're "game industry veterans", but I haven't heard how in any way. I don't know if you mentioned it in passing in another video (I doubt it), but I just skimmed all your videos and still didn't see anything like this. I'm not expecting a really grand backstory or a huge laundry list of successful games, but just some honest info about your backgrounds and experience would do wonders for my respect and interest in your channel. I think transparency is really important. It helps build personal connection (or a simulacrum of it).
Just my thoughts. This is my #1 preference for future content of yours.
Damn you wrote a whole book
@@jonanddy
lol 😅
I'm a bit autistic, so yeah I always tend to write a lot. I write a lot very quickly, so to me, it's normal, but I know it's weird for others. I don't want to leave out detail though, especially for a critical comment like this one. I want to offer the whole perspective and reasoning, otherwise I'd feel shitty. I mean, I still feel shitty when criticizing anyone like this, as much as I try to communicate that it comes from a positive, well-intentioned place. I don't want to just tear people down or anything, just be honest.
I hope you're well,

Since everyone and their dog can make a game now, it has all become one big popularity contest.
Nobody cares bout your amazing game. Nobody. Because everyone has a game.
Your girlfriend probably has a game she made in school.
Your grandma has a game she accidentally put together and got more popular upvotes for it just for being old.
Your dog has a game. Because who doesn't want to see a dog's game?
Your cat does not have a game. Because who has time for that when you have been worshiped as a God?
Nobody, cares about your game.
You can have all the skills for it. All the art, music, programming. But if you don't have popularity. And you don't have a personality. Nobody... cares.
Okay downer.
Also, yeah, everybody can make A GAME. It's now easier than ever to do it with tons of diffrent programs. lesson etc. BUT, not everyone can make A GOOD GAME.
I'm not sure what you're going on about.
@@Alexander-gb4rr Yeah I rambled on a bit there lmao. But there are a lot of good games out there that most people don't know exists. Because most think popularity signifies 'good'. If you make a fun game you might get a very small niche market following. But it won't be enough. To get anywhere in a flooded market like this you need a game that is fun. You need popularity. And then luck and timing.
It's like singers. Lots of people can sing. But only very few get noticed. And even fewer can make a living at it. People work their whole lives hoping to get a chance. Most don't make it past a church choir and a small youtube following.
Doesn't mean you shouldn't make a game. As long as people are realistic about it.
