@Yuneek You forgot Lost Souls Aside in the list
Great list, subbed
How do i get you guys to take a look at my 2 games, i am also a solo dev
Why Karlson 3d is not here?
Oh Wow! This is crazy! Thank you so much for mentioning Omno! That means SO much to me. Biggest motivation boost in a while... Stay safe, everyone!
Your game looks amazing! Definitely a game I will start keeping an eye on going forward. Best of luck!
Can't wait to play Omno after playing the demo. :)
Thanks for popping in! Omno is such a beautiful looking title! We really can't wait to play :)
Game looks gorgeous!
Best looking game ive seen in awhile
I am the creator of Rogue Depths, which was my first solo mobile project. I have to say, I was watching this video and was really caught out when I saw some gameplay of my own game. It really is a good feeling to see it spread around, thanks for sharing
You made an amazing game.
Thanks for dropping by! We're glad to feature you. Rogue Depths is awesome!
When is it coming to iOS?!?!
Awesome job!
Great work! I suggest to improve the SEO of your app on Android.
It's a good game and need more detailed promotion
Wow, very cool!!!
Thank you for your coverage of Ghost Knight: A Dark Tale, it has inspired me even more to keep going.
Super Appreciative!
Thanks for dropping by - keep it up! The trailer has us so excited. Can't wait to play!
I'm so excited for the release of Ghost Knife, haven't been this excited for a game in a while.
I usually dislike platformers but your game looks so clean and fun! I’ll definitely be checking it out when it is released
@@EricSp33r I'll do my best!
Please I'm a beginner I'm completely blown by what I saw on Ghost knight, can I be your student Please!!!!!!!
Well, thanks for reminding me that I am not alone in this!
Well, techically... but don't let that stop you :)
@@ghostcloudmusic6867 I understand
You can go full indie but still have support from other devs and stack overflow of course lol.
@@indieprogress7170 indeed
Do you have a page or something for your game yet ?
Some of the games look really great, especially Omno. There are many devs who work solo on their games (including me) and based on some charts, it seems it's around 50 percent. It is hard journey, but enjoyable as well. Congrats to all devs on this list.
I have built my first game.

Someday, my game will be in one of these lists! 🙏
I wish you well
What’s the name then so I can check it out later
Oi oi whats your social mate because I’m making an indie game as well and have it laid out on how it’ll play/ look/ be
Best of luck
Good luck, I'm thinking on making one too
"What's the difference between your game and Animal Crossing?"
"Mine is coming to Steam."
Uhhhhh... O-kay...
Yeah, I really hate insulting other devs because I KNOW just how hard they worked on their game, but I see it as absolutely nothing but a blatant ripoff of Animal Crossing. It's just really hard to respect that unfortunately.
@@ninja_tony game clones are mostly just games that are highly inspired by another 🤷 stardew valley was made that way too. It's with more development that they create their own voice
@@ninja_tony i really don't see how Hokko Life is an exact copy of Animal Crossing, an inspiration yes, but an exact copy is a stretch. Plus AC isnt even available on PC, this gives PC players an opportunity to experience something similar to the AC formula.
It might be a clone, but im probs gonna get this one first. Itll probs be cheaper and...Steam.
@@ninja_tony just fuck off nintendo bot
Absolutely inspiring, thank you for sharing! As someone with a full-time job looking into breaking into gamedev (and consuming all resources and courses possible) it's easy to get overwhelmed with everything that you have to do. These games prove it's all possible, and it's so important to see that!
100%. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Definitely possible. I have been at it for 2.5 years after my normal day job (and I still have a wife and daughter to take care of). If you are starting out, concentrate on your strengths and don't be afraid to use assets to fill in your weaknesses. Good luck on your journey!
Right there with you man. It's tough when you have a full-time job and need to consistently learn to bring your passion project to life, but success stories like these show how possible it is :) Best of luck with your project!

@@DungeonWard Thanks for the kind words, sorry it took me so long to respond! Will certainly take that on board, thank you!
10:14 using Game Maker Studio's built-in sprite editor is totally hard-core!
Bright Memory:Infinite was really mind blowing graphically speaking. It was even showcased at the Xbox series X gameplay showcase, and in term of graphic imo it even manage to eclipse some of those AAA title tbh. The fact its solo-developed blows my mind
I couldn't believe it either. That was by far the biggest shock to me and I'll be keeping an eye on it now
Did you play the "demo" for it? It is an unoptimized mess. The game breaks if you step the wrong way. Yeah, it looks alright... on screenshots. In the actual game you can see a lot of flaws.
And of course, it's easy to make a game like this when you follow chinese copyright laws, aka none.
The guy even admitted himself that he stole "some" stuff, without specifying what exactly.
@@kjbhargava well bright memory 1 is available for Android
You're clueless. Just like this channel.
Yeah it's amazing how one guy can create AAA game alike. I wonder how long did he develop that game and did he able to optimize that game too
I was waiting for you to mention “Karlson” by Dani 😭
hello fellow boner
that would be pretty cool
And if they did do that i would say "wow that was really cool"
@@SaItogaming202 😂
@@Zaynersyy thats the most non boner thing i ever heard. SHUT SHUT SHUT 👌
Super inspiring! Pushing harder so hopefully my game will be good enough to be displayed on this channel one day!
These videos really do help inspire me to work on my games. At the moment I’m working on a mobile game by myself, which will be released for free with small ads. The ad revenue and my full time job will be used to help fund my next project for PC (and hopefully for consoles). There have been plenty of times when I’ve doubted my own abilities and taken breaks from development due to frustration, stress and other external factors. Though your videos have always helped, so I just wanted to say thanks. Keep up the great work and quality content! :)
No problem! Thanks for watching. It's great to hear your story - good luck on your gamedev journey!
Very cool! I would just add Karlson to the list as for adding a simple, community driven creation by the RUclipsr Dani. He has made videos of every major addition to his game, almost everything made solo as only for the exemption of the game sound has been made in relation with one of his colleagues. Very cool, and inspiring videos that also have a lot of humor.
5:59 Thought it was twomad at first
For a moment I thought it was him lmao
Wait it’s not lmao
SPIDER COCK!?!?!?!?!?!
Great vídeo!
I'm almost done with my first game.
I am learning Unity, programming and also Blender.
I am also learning keyboard to be able to compose the songs of my game.
I'm improving my English too, to be able to watch videos like yours, tutorials, and also to make the game texts in English.
Learning all of this on my own is very difficult and I often feel like giving up on finishing the game, but this video was very motivating.
Thank you!
Your Channel is a great guide for me.
Omno looks🔥 I always wonder, how these people come up with these awesome styles and visuals :O
Yeah... i have no idea myself :D Consuming loads of cool stuff and mixing everything up into what I feel looks cool... Thanks for the super nice comment.
Eh, literally anything indie looks like that. Look at the game Journey
Fun to see more single devs like myself out there! It’s a heck of a lot of work but seeing games like these keeps the motivation flowing!!!
The combat in tunic looks super clean and fun

I REALLY hope I can be worthy of a mention among these amazing developers one day. Been working solo on my dream Action RPG for a few years now, and although I unfortunately have to keep my full-time job, I've been allocating whatever spare time I do have towards it. Even if it takes me a decade or more to finish, I'm passionate about finishing my project and sharing it with the world. Thanks so much for having our backs, AskGameDev :)
As a solo game dev, I'm so happy to discover this channel.
You should check "The Void Rains Upon Her Heart". This game blew my mind.

I just started my own indie game a couple days ago. I have to say, after seeing this inspired me to push myself even more and see what I can do. Hopefully I can produce something that I am proud of.
I still can't believe Tunic was single-dev. That game is amazing.
Notice no mention of how Bright Memory was caught stealing assets from AAA games previously.
I read this with no context and now I'm seriously confused

There's so many inspiring developers working on thier game , this should be a series,
This is so inspiring! I am working on a game now and it feels so daunting (even though the project is pretty small) but this makes me feel like I can really do it if I keep working hard
Absolutely. All the games are impressive. I finished my first android game few month ago on my own, and i know the efforts put into these. Well done devs.
I welcome every video like this, very inspiring, thank you
thank you Ask Gamedev it was really inspired , i love you all
Ive been working on my first game as an indie dev, this is completly new to me and very daunting. Ive got an excellent artist onboard now and have partnered with him and we hope to.release our 2d platformer by end of 2021. It is the hardest yet most rewarding thing i think ive ever done. Glad to see others grinding it out too
the animations and the models where amazing for a solo person. i thought that it would take a team but they proved me wrong:D
Its those videos and developers that inspire me to not abandon the projects that i have written down on my drive... so many ideas that i can't develop on my on cause i know i'm not capable of doing them the way i want. I hope someday i'll have the talent and knowledge to make one of those dream come true...
You could've talked about "Will you snail" that is being developed by Jonas Tyroller, he's doing it all alone, and made a whole RUclips series on the game
It looks really fun! We'll have to feature the title in a future video. Thanks for sharing!
Inspirational. I can!t say I'm too hyped for gamedev now, going at it from various angles for 2 years now, and having nothing to show for it seeing others making stuff over several years is good.
You should have more (and longer) videos on tools and techniques of how to save time on stuff.
This gave me a huge inspiration on making my newly launched game better and better. I am from a country which doesn't support me even 1% in this line of work but yet I am going to keep going all on my own.
@askgamedev your videos always inspire me to continue working on my ideas... it has something to do with your presentation and the way your videos are structured (aside from the great info you provide obviously) you've really guided me and given me great pointers in the last 2 years. Thank you for what you do, keep up the great work guys.
Loving to see that so many of this games were made with unreal engine 4
Yes...
THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING US ASK GAMEDEV
These are really cool. I hope that my game will once also be loved by others!
I knew about most of the games on this list, all of them look incredible.
The one that caught my eye special is Omno, it looks beautiful and something that I would definitely love to play.
I am working solo on a big Game myself, so this defiantly Pumps up the motivation!!, Thanks! :D
Such a great video, and awesome to list so much talent I had never heard of. I look really forward to playing these titles.
amazing list.
Watching this makes me think if game development is as easy as this video suggests, and if i should give it a try myself
There is Raccoo Venture. You will love it!
Checked it out! Pretty cool - thanks for sharing!
As a recent indie game dev it's very motivating, thank you!
this is everything but inspirational. There are lots of great solo devs making amazing stuff in unreal engine and I'm sitting here in my 30s struggling to make an arkanoid clone in godotengine
Well, keep on it! There is a beginning for everything :D
Well honestly godot doesnt have all tjh tooling other engines have that can speed up development
You can make it easily with Buildbox, you actually have a template for an arkanoid based game. It will shorten your development time and will give you more freedom to throw in more features into the game. Try its free version, its really easy to use and fun making games with. If you go forward, I recommend any game design course by Ben tristem. Good luck and hope to see your game come to life.
@@kobiguitar I don't want to make games with any WYSIWYG editor. I want to make games actually programming them, that's why I hate Game Maker Studio and other similar software
Holy moly.... Finally found this channel! Subscribed
Somehow this makes me realize just how much I need a team lol
It doesnt matter how much experience you would have in the field game dev is extremly time consuming, working as a team might be better for short term results but working alone is the way for long term results
@@youneskasdi what do you mean lol, working with a team is almost always better for the game
@@ghouldrago360 When you work as a team you lose the unified vision key element
@@youneskasdi Not really. You assign a role to a group in your team for that. You tell them your vision of the game and how it’s supposed to be produced and they make sure everyone is following that.
Damn this Xalavier guy is a damn good game dev, skatebird and hypnospace outlaw were really damn good
Such a great collection! As a solo developer by myself a totally feel the struggle and effort it takes to develop something alone!
Great video, very inspiring. I'm working on my own game right now by myself and it's best time i've had creating something. I also love to get to know other devs it's all been a great experience so far :)!
This is the kind of motivation i want! Thx guys! :D
You're becoming my favorite youtube channel.
Actually got to play two of the games in this video, both were loads of fun
Mike Blackney and Alex Bruce were both tought by the same teacher i was, who also worked on the original version of Team Fortress. I legit didnt know they did the class at the same year AND just one year before I started. Shame, coulda met some more legends!
Small world we live in...especially if you're an Australian game dev.
Such a legendary list of epic game devs, very inspiring! 😍❤
These videos are really helpful in motivating solo devs like us
Well, really this was really inspiring videos for solo game developer !!!

thank you for all of these. cant wait play these games
Awesome stuff thanks for the heads up, that's at least 4 new games added to the wishlist =)
Hmm these stories are really inspiring. Im planning on going solo with my next project, but we'll see
Well I’m a solo game dev but I’m not sure to announce and market game, it’s quite early production, maybe 2/3 months
If your interested it’s a low poly survival island FPS with rescource garthering , randomly generated islands, dungeons and enemy’s and potential multiplayer
Hopefully I can publish it too steam late this year or early 2021
I know it’s ambitious but maybe it’ll work out like intended , look out for ‘I am’ in the future.....
This is very helpful. It gives me even more motivation to finish my survival /fps zombie game.
a hope for solo game developers haha, nice video
5:55 uhhh what is that guy doing with his controller... 😂
He is just, "playing" with it. :)
Woh, these games look great. I can tell why you saved Tunic til last!
always appreciate these videos. thanks!
Man, I would love to see my game featured in a video like this. Too bad my work doesn't look anywhere NEAR as good as anything on this list.
Maybe you guys need to broaden the list out a little more than just 8 games. Maybe you could include mine if you talked about the best... 800 games in development?
The best 2400 solo games in development in 2021. I'm sure I could make that list.
Welp I definitely want to get ghost knight and Omno
Cyber Shadow should be mentioned too, it is heavily inspired by games like Ninja Gaiden, has been in development for a very long time, made by Meka Skull and should be released in the next few months(fall 2020) published by Yacht Club Games(makers of Shovel Knight).
Thanks for the suggestion! You're absolutely right! We'll have to feature Cyber Shadow in a future video :)
Wow thanks for showing these! I will play them on my channel :D
Thank you for the wonderful and inspiring video, still amazes me every time I see all the talents out there pursuing their dream, it really encourages me as well~
I'm confused why my stickman game I'm working on isn't in this video.
I thought that indie game meant solo developed game but that has changed into something unrecognisable. Hope the glimmers of hope shed from solo developed games pave the way to even higher heights
Great video 👍 You forgot about me though. And my game “The Adventures of Gorm” 😉
This selection of games looks really good !
Remember those guys are the master of their fields if you're a beginner start with something simple and keep the effort until you reach a high level, don't try to make alone a full game like these ones.
Going to play all of these!! Maybe not Bright Memory though. TUNIC looks the best to me!
Man that's inspiring! But also sad, I want to develop a 3rd person shooter but also with fighting mechanics, I feel like it's going to be extremely hard to make because there aren't a lot of videos of people developing 3d games as many as people who develop 2d games.
4:56 commercials should me marked as them !
Most of these games are not ones that I would play, but I'm impressed by the fact that they were all made by just one person..and I am definitely not into FPS games, but that game "Bright Memory:Infinite" looks awesome..IMO these games show that you don't need a big studio behind you to make a good game that people will want to play
I am a indie dev myself. Cant wait to have my own gameplay ready in about a years time
Beautiful titles! ...most are made w/Unreal engine? Is there one with Godot or another OSS engine?
It would be nice if you did a video of these with new developers who are also indie (most of these had backgrounds already doing this so their margins for error is small )
Its amazing what some of these solo developers are accomplishing, although i must say, if you already have a back ground in game development, I can see how this work experience seems to pay off. Hope I can be a success as a developer as well. For now, I'll keep pursuing my dreams.
I am working on a game called “Tletl: A divine quest”, a metroidvaniaish game heavily inspired on aztec mythology.
great video man
I can recommend Fist of the Forgotten by Jitspoe / Lone Wulf Studio
A momentum based platformer
You guys should also check out Lucen. It's still in development but looks absolutely stunning
Wow Wow !! The entire information is very much inspiring. I am an new born Indie Developer and other than my primary job (Teaching 3D and Gaming for more than 13 years) it has been a long term dream which I just have started to execute.
Well, to be honest, I am a little afraid of my age. Is it going to be a big deal in order to settle down or at least kick start at the age of 40?
I need your suggestion !!
But truly I'm inspired and looking forward to implement for my own.
You should absolutely check Into A Dream! It's a beautiful game with stunning art and atmosphere. It has a demo version, and it's really good even still in development!
Thought I would find Lucen and 'Sword and magic and stuff' on here.
Well he had someone else help him on the game for a couple months so he technically didn't do it completely solo.
Is it just me, or are there way more tiny indie project being done on UE all of a sudden? I guess investing in high-end features and upping the repay threshold was a smart move.
Yea UE is free until you make revenue tho
Thanks Ask Gamedev, today I learned about new great lifesaving tools !
Awesome video!
The Bright Memory Trailer really blew my mind. It just straight up looks like a AAA title.
