Out of curiosity, how are you watching it in the USA? I'm so surprised that a TV show from here is being watched overseas. And yes, this is exactly what Australian government departments are like. I work for one... sigh.
Yes, if it's any reassurance, our government here, at all levels (fed, state, local), is full of incompetence, idiocy, stupid ideas and lots of announcements but nothing ever happening due to faffing about is something that both our great countries share. ❤

I get a few laughs from this show, but my overwhelming feeling (after the cringe has passed) -- is that it's soooooo depressing ... to know that outside of the satire, bureaucracies truly ard this horrible and corrupt (excepting Tony and Nat).

As a Yank, I have to say this show is friggin' brilliant. The Office meets Parks & Recs but better & smarter. I absolutely have to watch this show. This is the best I've seen on screen in years. I love it. Absolutely love it. ...sorry about Trump. The Feckless left did the best we could.

Let me just say, I was sad after The Office ended, and Steve said they won’t be coming back to do another season.
And this show, Utopia satisfies my wish. I am glad this show exists.

anyone who has worked in a corporation (business, hospital, etc.) can relate to one or many of the slapstick truths that occur rapid fire in this absolutely humorous series. Sure, some of the themes are repetitive, but they hammer home how worthwhile ventures and constructive endeavors can be bogged down by the cancer of policy, procedure, policing, and politics. A+++

I swear this is the "office dialogues" I have ever seen in real life... hold on these characters are fake?!... Yeah right...
They interviewed real public servants to ask them for examples of the kind of things they deal with and what goes on in a govt department. They will never run out of material.
I'm pretty sure Tony is going to kill one of them or both by the end of the series.

Falling behind another country isn’t xenophobic. It’s recognition that you are in a competition and you need to improve yourself.
It is xenophobia if the country you are falling behind is one full of people "not like you" and that your politicans are currently ginning up as a big scary threat - ie currently China. It will be someone else another day.
Yeah but specifically behind china has some cultural context in australia that means a lot of Australians will interpret any stats like that in a xenophobic way.
