Whats funny is that as a teenager I was so sick of my country's culture around dating and sex but now as an adult when I look at the western culture of dating I feel great that we at least have these customs where we are encouraged to focus on ourselves before getting involved in sexual relationships, where we don't have to be 'exclusive' to show our partner basic human decency and not date around, and where we value our friends and family's opinion on our lives. I mean yes there is an extreme side to it too but in general I believe we have progressed to a point where a lot of us have found middle ground.
Unfortunately, India is devolving in my opinion.. Social media has ruined the youth of India, making double meaning jokes literally every minute... swearing every second.. and what’s wild is that I even heard a group of girls talking about their body counts.. we were only in 10th grade. Consent is common nowadays. But earlier, like 100 years ago, it was not much of thing. But that was everywhere. India has been strangely progressive on many women's issues. For example, india granted women right to vote since independence in 1947. The colonial Britain and France granted women right to vote later than 1947. Soviet Union also was very ahead of western world on women's rights.

I think most people in Japan simply do not care if a couple is kissing each other in public. But its would be weird if they do that in front of their friends or family
huh? so you think other country will slap or kick someone that kissing each other in public? as Indonesian expect in Aceh there is no law or rule thath kissing in public is forbiden. but if someone do that then its w be so weird an awkard too but no one will punch or slap you because of that. i mean there is no diference betwen japan and Indonesia aon other Asian. that is just basic Asian

I was confused when Alfred stepped forward for the matchmaking question because traditional matchmaking like in India is not that common in Indonesia, but then when he mentioned matchmaking by friends I find myself agreeing to him “Oh THAT’s what he meant by matchmaking!” *nodding vigorously
@@abandonedfragmentofhope5415 Interesting question, this is how our culture differs with others like South Asian. In Indonesia, getting your friend to match you with someone they know personally is seen as something casual; if it works then great, but if not then it’s like, “Oh well” 🤷♂️. Going to an actual matchmaking agency, on the other hand, would be perceived as something “desperate” by many people and would only be done in secret. Although nowadays with so many dating apps there’s less need for such business anymore (matchmaking agency).
Loved the video. Asians are still so nicely shy and timid that in comparison with "progressive" Europe and North America is a pleasure to see. Other videos are more fun - relaxed and entertaining whereas this one is like another level, a balm to an educated soul.
That's probably the biggest difference between Indian culture and other Asian cultures. We're very similar in a lot of ways, but Indians aren't shy. We can be very blunt in situations where other asians would be shy and beat around the bush. I've also observed this among Chinese people. Ironic that the two powers with the largest populations in the world, also seem to be the least shy.
I just want to say don't be ashamed of your culture instead be proud of where you are born. Don't see it from western perspective, westerners even don't have their own culture but we do. Also there is every answer for your question you just need to find right person.
ya you are right but not all the practices of a culture are right some of them are questionable and we need to change them other than that it's really nice to have a culture diff from everyone and follow that
I agree with ur opinion but just don't say western don't have their culture infact they have it shows that still u r comparing and disrespecting towards other race which is not cool
This video is kind of interesting to know why Asian countries are different. The Filipino young adult is kind of like talking the truth about finishing your education (like finishing college) before you start dating someone. This is so true when your education needs to be finished.
Yeah India has like a lot of things more than half of marriages are still completely arranged while the others are mixes of different but it's like way easier to accept a guy having a love marriage or a city girl rather than just a girl or a rural girl
bcoz girls are easily manipulated and highly emotional...its easier to trick them and it is to trick men...we saw what happened in the aftab shraddha case....when boys fall in love, they do a complete background check...girls don't,they fall too easily and build trust very quickly...
No in my village or you can say a small town we are allowed to date or love marriage in west bengal nowadays it's kind awkward for me because I am single but for my family dating before marriage is acceptable

I found this fascinating as I am a European married to an Asian but we are in a Western country. So good to know! I’d love to see similar videos like this with people from Europe, Mediterranean, Africa, Middle East, etc. Great vid!
From what the participants explain in these countries people don't "date". It's tiring to have "date" and "dating" used has a synonym for people's love lives when it's a concept that doesn't translate to so many cultures.
Guys in the videos! Don't approach or gauge or judge your own cultures through Western paradigm. You'll arrive at the wrong conclusions and will feel ashamed or inferior. You don't necessarily have to be proud or shamed of your culture. It is what it is. Take it or leave it.
I don't feel inferior. But I do know every culture should work and improve. The whole 'take it or leave it' is how we had, in human history, women who couldn't vote, who didn't have a voice.
Yup that's what the world has turned to. It's happening everywhere. No one even knows why their cultures are the way it is, they only see it through western lenses, pretending that they are "progressive".
Not everybody in the west thinks those cultures are inferior either. In fact, I sometimes really hoped that matchmaking and arranged marriage was an acceptable and normal thing in my culture (it is not), as for me it would solve a huge hassle of having to jump from dating app to dating app, filtering through hundreds of men who are nowhere near looking for marriage.
From what I get online and in person a lot is that Asians usually prefer to date there own Asian group like Chinese dating Chinese, Japanese dating Japanese, Korean dating Korean, Mongolian dating Mongolian, And the listing goes on and continues and resumes and plays on yeah.
As a Asian, I concur. And that's not like that for everybody, because it is up to the individual, but for the most part it is true. Most Asians want to preserve their culture especially if they are residing in a country that is not their native one. I used to think that was racist but as I get older- ish (😂 I'm still young,- 40's) I understand it and there's nothing wrong with it. My children are actually mixed race, and although there's nothing wrong with that, I live in a country that's not my native ethnicity, but in the country that I do live in, there's absolutely _no_ shortage of my kid's race, the side that's not my own race. So, even if my kids did not have their family anymore, they would still know enough about their side of race (that is not the same as mine.) It's all over our environment -with the language, the culture, the food, other people's of same race, the clothes, etc. The only thing my kids know about my side of their race is what I pass on to them, and from doing research, like RUclips videos of our race's life and lifestyle, etc. So my point is that, once I die, my particular race might not be passed down to generations, unless my kids' marry an Asian and also have children with the same said Asian group as me. The country I live in doesn't really shed light on or promote Asian life, although they kind of try. I don't blame them though because they really can't, because they are not my native country. Just like if I was living in China, no one would be one hundred percent accurate about portraying life and culture in say Papa New Guinea or what not. Also with Asians, it's so diverse. Each ethnicity is completely different from another country, even though we're all still Asian. I don't know if you're American or not, but I have noticed that it's really just an American thing to think that all Asians are the same or all Latinos are the same or all Africans are the same, etc. In Africa, everyone is proud of their particular race and country, they don't have a blanket saying calling every one and each other just "Black." An Ethiopian would be very offended if you call them an Ugandan even though both are from Africa and they both claim that they are African and they're both Black in skin tone. And look at what is going on in Europe; Russians don't go around calling themselves Ukrainian even though they're both the same color of skin and both European.

7:01 About That Manglik thing :- A person born under the influence of Mars as per Hindu astrology is said to have "mangala dosha"; such a person is called a Mangalika. Mars is considered the planet of war, Mangal dosh creates highly unfavorable circumstances for marriage. In the married life of such persons, tensions, discomfort, unhappiness and separations are very much expected. Most of such people experience disharmony in family life. In my knowledge, a Manglik person should marry only a manglik person. My aunt is a manglik and she married a non-manglik guy and they don't have kids even after 25 years of marriage.
In short Asian countries are conservative and Asian people are shy. Hence natural bonding between men and women of same age is less than other continents. Nothing wrong with that but definitely has pros and cons.
@Dating Beyond Borders Please do A video series on "What Dating A Bicultural Partner is Like." I had a Canadian friend whose mother is traditional Korean and father is indigenous Canadian. They influenced how she approached dating before she ultimately went her own way.
One thing that the "Indian" girl doesn't get it right is on the fact that her perspective is not "Indian" to begin with...it's probably reflective of the region and mindset of the people/region her family comes from....mostly North Indian....there's a huge India outside the region her family comes from....My family is a mix of Maharashtrian and Keralite...and I want to say that we might actually have a waaaaay different outlook from the "Indian" girl here. I think any Indian trying to "represent" India should start of with a disclaimer that India is like a mini-Europe with each state and region ever so different in its culture, language, food ,etc. India is not just Taj Mahal, Butter Chicken, and Bhangra!...it's like saying All of Europe should be represented by Eiffel tower and Croissants...how would the Germans, Italians, Greek, Spaniards, etc feel?..so think of India and its vast and extremely diverse culture through a similar lens.
So then, what is your outlook -- why don't you state it here instead of just criticizing her? China is huge, and so is Indonesia. No need to state obvious disclaimers about differences in culture.
When you call her north indian and considered all northern Indian State have same culture itself is stereotypes and your ignorance. A north west rajasthani and gujrati culture is highly different from a bihar society and culture. First learn to respect every State.
Happy Thursday, Marina! Japanese 🇯🇵 women are very beautiful in my perspective. More videos like this please. Sending my love from Miami, Florida, USA 🇺🇲
Let me clear up what the indian girl said, she was only talking about the arranged marriage scenario, normal young people also date without involving the families at all in India. I think she is only speaking from a very conservative family perspective. She should have highlighted that things vary depending on families and regions you're from.
Dating publicly without family involvement at all is very rare in India. Remember that a few westernised people in a couple of big metros are a small minority in the billion population.
I had a Vietnamese girlfriend who I met in Vietnam I was having dinner with her family one day and they were talking about partners cheating. I asked her sister how many men do they think cheat in Vietnam, she said about 70% I asked her why she thought that was. She said he had no idea. I asked her if she thought it was because men and women only seem to marry out of pressure and self/family/society imposed ideals and not because they took the time to get to know whether they actually like each other or not. Apparently she never thought about it that way before.......
Assuming you're from the west, it's kind of ironic coming from a person wherein despite the liberal norms of dating cheating still exists in huge numbers possibly more than the 70% you got to know in vietnam. Very similar to those folks who preach about increasing birth rates to Japan, meanwhile despite having different policies their country's birth rate isn't different either.
@Ritisha Kapoor I'd assume your ideas of 'western' = America, you do realise that there are many many many countries considered to be the 'west' that doesn't include America, cheating in my country might in fact happen, but it's considered to be so taboo that you would be ostracized socially from many groups and will be constantly reminded that you're a cheat if you ever complain about about significant others. I'd also imagine the same goes for other Europen countries. I've rarely ever heard of cheating in my life. But it might also be a good idea to have an actual fact to back up your claim as apposed to "there is probably more cheating in the 'west' than in Vietnam" a fact you can't actually back up and stems from most likely anti 'western' rhetoric So no, there is no Irony in the statement, in fact there is nothing 'ironic' about it, I think you meant hypocritical.... but by labeling all 'westerns' as hypocrites , that's a racist statement, so you trying to label me as something and then actually allowing me to label you as a racist is Ironic, so well done on playing yourself
And that's where the concept of family involving comes in India, like our parents makes sure if their kids have brighter and happier future and it's really not common(not at all) to cheat or to even get divorced, and that's why I think indian parents get involved cuz they simply want to ressure that their kid is going to lead a happy life and Indian parents are highly protective, so yeah, that's it
In India people seldom cheat although majority marry through arrange marriages, I have been to USA worked there, the marriages usually fall apart from cheating even decades after marriage. Coming to Philippines, Thailand they don't really have strong traditions and are quasi-westernized. Philippines didn't even have a writing system until Europeans showed up, most of these South East Asian cultures borrow heavily from western cultures and traditions are not sophisticated or deep rooted. China and India have rigid systems that seem to perform certain functions well although they aren't without flaws.
@@PaulM68322 She is right though. You had no problem generalize all Vietnamese men with that fake story. Actually western men are super cheaters, especially those come to Asia. Thats why theres so many RUclips comments talking about "ex" from "Asia". Older they are, worse they are, they have family back home yet its not shameful to cheat. Just check the internet, its encouraged to be passport bros or something. Its funny and "ironic" you ask such weird question. BTW, saw what western especially nordic (should really add k there) men doing to Ukrainian women, refugees and widows. Icky
in indonesia sex before marriage is a shameful thing to do.. especially for women.. if the parents find out their daughters got pregnant, they will rush the marriage to cover the shame.. dating is still ok but you have to know the limit.. I had a relative who got pregnant out of marriage and when the baby was born no one in my big family see the baby or the mother or saying congratulation.. because it is shameful for them knowing just after 4 months, she got a baby.. people will forgive but they never forget.. for avarage people, sex before marriage is seen as very high risk action that can have great consequence not just for the couple who do that but also for the parents and the big family... and later for their children I, myself, got the case of a man proposed me and he told me that he had done sex with his ex girl friend.. and because I was confused whether to accept him or not so I talked about it with my parent, and my father rejected him right away.. in some cases like my family who are still conservative, traditional and religious.. sex before marriage is like you throwing dirt on the parent's faces...

ROFL...so many dating tactics same across Asian countries...thanks for making this video...we are understanding the commonality and individualistic traditional approach happening across the culture...
In a way, I sort of envy these guys because they all come from cultures where dating still holds that traditional approach with a modern twist. As a British-Filipino here in the UK, I grew up with a lot of South Asian friends who's families paired them off with the right person, & I always wondered why we don't have that sort of thing in Filipino culture .. I guess it comes down to knowing the right circle of Filipino/Asian friends, but unfortunately I never really had that growing up, despite having friends of many different backgrounds. I guess I've missed the boat of knowing the right people in life & will probably just end up being a passport bro ..

While whatever this Indian girl said is true, the opposite is also true. Everyone dates and many have pre-marital sex too but they ensure their parents don't get to know about it.
she is correct. what you are taking about is the exception not the rule. Majority of Indians don't date, there is zero dating culture here and pre marital sex is deal breaker for most partners. May be you also have to lie to your partner to get married if you are not virgin
@@newhorizon175 it really depends on a lot of factors like region, social class, exposure etc. Btw my first sentence literally says that whatever she said is true. Philippines is very extreme..if people are liberal, they are very liberal and if they are conservative, they are very conservative..there's nothing in between
Philippines has lots of conservative stuff which might was common in Europe 400 years ago but is very far from Europe nowadays. Even though some stuff originally came from Europe it is way more close to other South East & East Asian nations nowadays. Also values, social behavoir, parenting and so on is actually very East/South East Asian. Filipinos unfortunately often want to be more Western than they are. Unfortunately a very typical colonial mentality, but luckily the languages were protected. The influence by the Spaniards is fortunately way less there than in the colonialized South American countries.

Control her!!" and my dad asked me when I got back home and ofc my parents didn't mind cuz that guy is basically my brother after all these years lmao
My partner (American), was extremely surprised at the difference in dating there and here was. We found a middle ground but he still finds some things surprising. Example would be ligawan; you’re not together-together, you’re just vying for her hand (usually this becomes solid when parents give their approval), after a lengthy courtship is when you can say you’re officially together. Me and him settled that dating=ligawan because I want to keep that tradition going (and of course meet his parents first!), date to marry I guess lol

You guys need to turn it into an industry cause that can make you some good money if something like that exists in Indonesian culture anyways.
I think depends on where you are, in Sulawesi matchmaking by your parents is pretty common cause they want to find you someone who has money

That's probably the biggest difference between Indian culture and other Asian cultures. We're very similar in a lot of ways, but Indians aren't shy. We can be very blunt in situations where other asians would be shy and beat around the bush. I've also observed this among Chinese people.

From what the participants explain in these countries people don't "date". It's tiring to have "date" and "dating" used has a synonym for people's love lives when it's a concept that doesn't translate to so many cultures.

Superb video. Actually there are lots of similarities in Asians traditions, perspectives and attitudes. They stepped forward many times together.
I don't know what you're talking about. Their telling what they see and experience. That's why they only answer agree and disagree.

So, even if my kids did not have their family anymore, they would still know enough about their side of race (that is not the same as mine.)
It's all over our environment -with the language, the culture, the food, other people's of same race, the clothes, etc.

About That Manglik thing :-
A person born under the influence of Mars as per Hindu astrology is said to have "mangala dosha"; such a person is called a Mangalika.

How is dating like in your end?
So then, what is your outlook -- why don't you state it here instead of just criticizing her? China is huge, and so is Indonesia. No need to state obvious disclaimers about differences in culture.
When you call her north indian and considered all northern Indian State have same culture itself is stereotypes and your ignorance. A north west rajasthani and gujrati culture is highly different from a bihar society and culture. First learn to respect every State.
Your so called north indian image is from Delhi or sarrounded area but it's better you should learn about difference in many north States.

Let me clear up what the indian girl said, she was only talking about the arranged marriage scenario, normal young people also date without involving the families at all in India. If my mom finds out I am dating a girl they would want me to get married quickly or leave her.
@@rahulvats95 same here
Nah..😅Dating culture and having a girlfriend is not common in India. But things are changing quickly here.
Dating publicly without family involvement at all is very rare in India. Remember that a few westernised people in a couple of big metros are a small minority in the billion population.
@@AYUSHKUMAR-yw7hj depends on where you are. Pretty common in cities
I had a Vietnamese girlfriend who I met in Vietnam
I was having dinner with her family one day and they were talking about partners cheating. I asked her sister how many men do they think cheat in Vietnam, she said about 70%
I asked her why she thought that was.
But it might also be a good idea to have an actual fact to back up your claim as apposed to "there is probably more cheating in the 'west' than in Vietnam" a fact you can't actually back up and stems from most likely anti 'western' rhetoric
So no, there is no Irony in the statement, in fact there is nothing 'ironic' about it, I think you meant hypocritical.... but by labeling all 'westerns' as hypocrites , that's a racist statement, so you trying to label me as something and then actually allowing me to label you as a racist is Ironic, so well done on playing yourself
Its funny and "ironic" you ask such weird question. in indonesia sex before marriage is a shameful thing to do.. especially for women.. if the parents find out their daughters got pregnant, they will rush the marriage to cover the shame..

people will forgive but they never forget.. for avarage people, sex before marriage is seen as very high risk action that can have great consequence not just for the couple who do that but also for the parents and the big family... and later for their children
I, myself, got the case of a man proposed me and he told me that he had done sex with his ex girl friend.. and because I was confused whether to accept him or not so I talked about it with my parent, and my father rejected him right away.. in some cases like my family who are still conservative, traditional and religious.. sex before marriage is like you throwing dirt on the parent's faces...

The way I could relate to the Indian girl.....I was cmg back home w my male bestfriend (frnds since 6 yr olds) in 12th after giving a paper in metro (subway) and some of my dad's collegues saw me eating w him at a restaurant on our way back cuz we were famished and called my dad saying "OMG your daughter is with a boy ALONE in a restaurant eating!! Control her!!" and my dad asked me when I got back home and ofc my parents didn't mind cuz that guy is basically my brother after all these years lmao
Indian has an Ana de Armas aura.
The Indian girl looks like Ana De Armas for some reason. Or maybe I'm blind.
The Chinese guy is super cool ✌️✌️
so interesting!
Oh! It's an Asian thing not just Indian 😁
