The only director who turns their Letterboxd reacts into life advice
“It’s too late for regret.” Hell fucking yeah brother
Park Chan-wook is a legend, and I don’t use that term lightly or often. He is truly a cinematic legend through and through and deserves that title.
Yup definitely, the man and his filmmaking are truly legendary!!
you strike me as the type of fella to use the term 'legend' pretty lightly.
@@Brisbae word
This!
@@Brisbae 🙄
God has entered the app
“It‘s a movie with the intention to make you laugh at every second“
“I was really trying to create the most terrifying nightmare imaginable“
He‘s a living legend😂
He's turning 60 in 2 days (August 23rd). So best wishes in advance!
The fact that he both stated that he wanted to create a nightmare and that he wanted it to feel like a comedy says a lot about from how many different angles he approaches a film, which is why they always have so many layers and so many legitimate ways to look at them and react to them. Masterful cinema.
Decision to Leave was the most incredible movie I've seen in the 2020s, I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next
I need like 10 more movies from this man
you're in luck, he's directed 11 films, Oldboy included. there are literally 10 more for you to watch!
@@birth0fserpents I’ve seen his whole filmography :(
@@birth0fserpents but thank you!
@@birth0fserpents can you give me a list of the films he has directed (not produced)
@@imposter6952You can google his name and easily get the list but I highly recommend the 'lady vengeance'. Last movie of Park's vegeance trilogy. Old boy is second of the trilogy.
So humble and witty. I admire him.
Oldboy is the best comic adaptation ever put to film. The work done with the visuals and performances are breathtaking
bro responds with philosophy. the korean goat
Saw this a few hours ago (I’ve been an avid fan since 2005, when I noticed the DVD on the bottom shelf at my local Blockbuster Video. Went into it totally blind and absolutely loved it). We were the first ones to arrive but I was so happy to see nearly half the theater occupied. Aside from the few brief comedic moments (like the hammer to the head scene), everyone was stone cold silent and stayed for the after-credits interview.
I love how they threw in the 1-star and half-stars at the end. People hating and feeling so disgusted by this movie makes it so much better to me.
This man is easily my top 10 directors of all time. Oldboy and Decision To Leave are just perfect cinema.
i can feel the interviewer's nervousness at being in Chan-wook’s presence 👀🍷
Thank you. Just watched Stoker again for the Blank Check Podcast. This is a gift
It's been a joy going through his filmography
I gotta say I watched Oldboy tonight twice and I have chills the first time and immense build up of sorrow and tears rolling down my cheeks the second time can’t wait to watch it again and again very good job! Going to definitely give this out at Christmas.
what a legend
One of the best movies ever made
Living legend
Director Park Chan-wook, it’s just the internet, know that there are so many who adore this movie! ❤️
Great characters with depth and nuances, a terrific plot, symbolic depictions and quotes that make you think, a heavy twist, ingenious analogies... and a soundtrack that simply goes through your marrow and legs!
I am a cineaste through and through and have seen many "must-sees" of several decades. Plus, arthouse here and there from various genres.
But this complete film is a milestone - an outstanding, relentless masterpiece that is still my personal number 1!
Thank you, Mr. Park-Chan Wook for creating cinema on a whole new level.
What were the symbiolic depictions in oldboy?
My number one film director. Of all time.
And I really mean it!
"laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone."
Decision To Leave is one of the best films in THE history of cinema and I don't know why it isn't as hyped as it deserves
Never heard of it, gonna give it a try.
Love this guy, great sense of humor
Oh my god, this is “My life isn’t a tragedy, it’s a fucking comedy” as a movie. How did I not realize???
Such an intelligent dude
Amazing visionary. We are blessed. Recently watched Decision to Leave. Perfect film
Oldboy is very funny if you embrace what it is.
The beautiful South Korean modesty ♡
Lmao he's so god damn sweet
"It's a movie with the intention to make you laugh at every second" "I was really trying to create the most terrifying nightmare imaginable" Pick a lane Park lmao. Tho I can see how strangely these 2 ideas can overlap.
you can see how both are true. absurdity births both laughter and horror, both twins trying to eat the other
Reminds me of when Bong Joon-ho was on Jimmy Fallon. Fallon's struggling to explain the complex concept of Parasite to the audience and Bong responds 'It's just a funny and scary movie 🙂" lol
I didn't feel how serious the movie was at first, even after the man jumps off at the start.
There's a great line from his movie Sympathy for Mr Vengence, a doctor is talking about a sick child and says "If I were a more optimistic doctor, I would say there is hope" Hilarious and awful. He is 100% aiming for both.
These react videos are such a great idea. Keep them coming!
Yes, that's it!
Park Chad Wook 🫡😤😎
Going to be checking out Thirst (2009) tomorrow for the very first time and I cannot wait (I've seen the Vengeance Trilogy, Decision to Leave, JSA, and The Handmaiden already)
That’s my favorite of his, hope you like it!
@@elias306 thank you :) Excited to see yet another Song Kang-ho film, he's fucking GREAT
I watched the movie for the first time thanks to the remaster yesterday and I am glad he says his intention was for it to be a comedy. It is a masterfully crafted mystery/ thriller with great action and well performed dramatic sequences, but it came across as a dark comedy at heart.
Letterboxd, you complete me! ❤
BUT WHAT ARE HIS 4 FAVOURITE FILMS???!!!
they uploaded another video for this
A good movie begins when you leave the movie theater
찬욱찡 귀여워
Just in time for us Blankies
i think he would have also done a really great Joker movie
JSA 때부터 완전 팬입니다.
is it re releasing in india aswell? i'd love to see it so badly
i love you god🩵
Shame you never did this with Friedkin
It's too late for regret. The sequel.
Decision To Leave should've been nominated in the non-english/foreign category last year. Fucked up it wasn't, maybe it didn't qualify for some bs reason.
한국 통역사 초월번역 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Oldboy is the one movie where if you give it a low rating because it offended you, i understand lol
Crazy how someone so boring could consistently make such interesting art
He has quite a few great interviews, but some terrible ones too. I think he gets nervous, especially in the more western settings. Great interview with him answering a film class's questions on Oldboy.
I mean how do you respond to letterboxd reviews. They’re the definition of irreverent and low effort.
tell me when he does the handmaiden, letterboxd lesbians must know !!!
The perfect example that writing a one liner on LB is better then a real review. But yeah, Park Chan-Wook, you are truly the greatest Director working today!
why sit down with a well respected cinema legend just to have him respond to a few bad one liner "reviews" that don't have anything interesting to say about his films? This is just embarrassing
This is so banal for such a profund man you can clearly tell that he's bored and annoyed
I feel sorry for Park Chan-wook for having to listen to this nonsense. This series is clearly designed to torture filmmakers.
this may be the worst thing ive ever seen
감독 데려다가 이딴걸 찍고있네
수준낮고 웃기지도 않고 최악이다
박찬욱이 뭐 이런 멍청한것들이 다있나 생각했을듯
