    As a professional auto technician for 18 years I say he’s giving good advise just don’t use the band clamps with hi temp sealer. It does work but when you go to change say a muffler later on it can be a pain. Just use right sizes and you’ll be ok. Oh and never use that corrugated type flex pipe just use the braided style or simply have an exhaust guy do it or replace the section with those bends. Thanks Op! I’ll send this link to my brother to better explain what I told him earlier. Tho I always end up fixing my family’s cars by myself anyways so I’ll prob end up doing his too! Worth a shot tho.. lol.

    Muffler shop cost $180/hr, or fraction thereof, so 10 min. =$180. So I used a tomato can, some JB, 2 Clamps. So far 5 months later...🚙 ... Still working...

    Thank you 🙏 I’m think of a diy x-pipe idea with glass packs and side pipes. 🤔 was just worried about clamps not sealing properly and causing weird sounds. This gives me a little peace of mind about not having to spend a fortune.

      I use to work at Hitachi manufacturing making hard drive disks for computers. Anyway the department I worked in was called “ID-OD”, we cut the inner diameter & outer diameter of the aluminum hard drive disk.

    Thank you so much! This gave me the options to tackle my problem. I have a 2008 jeep wrangler. About 4 inches had to be sawed off at the hanger to drop the catalytic converters (they were clogged). Now the aftermarket catalytic converter tube doesn't quite match the height even though they're the same 2". I'm going to go down there and look at it again with this information. See if maybe I can have one of the braided pipes connect both with a couple of clamps and copper rtv.

    Rustoleum Red Primer is great to kill rust and galvanize rusted exhaust pipes and auto parts; do not even need to clean or sand it! You can go over the outside at later time as needed! :)

    Thanks for sharing. One quick correction about the braids; they are really intended to isolate vibration and allow flexation between sections more than they are to overcome turns and offsets

    Thanks , I liked and subscribed.
    My 98 subaru exhaust flange (between the cats) rusted to almost nothing and is separated. I'm liking these solutions. Welding looked like a non-starter, I'm not in a place where that'
    s affordable (montreal, canada) But I have a floor jack and a sawzall. If i cut out the flange, nice and square, I should be able to throw on a band clamp, and at least have the vehicle sort of driveable.
    It's tough with old cars. I'm trying to replace this one, but stuff is suddenly going wrong quicker than I can keep up. I got no parking space...

    For anyone doubting the band clamps... they are all that holds most 18 wheeler exhaust together and they last if installed correctly.

    with the exhaust clamp, where do you get that flexible yellow piece to mate them together, as you dont just use an exhaust clamp with 2 pipes of the exact same size.

  • @Kraxt0n

    Been tryna find the stuff the dude who had the car prior used. It's a soft metal, not flex pipe, and it's nowhere near as thick as the exhaust pipe is but lasted until I cut it tryna make it fit my car. What exhaust pipe or round steel is soft enough to be clamped? That's what I'm looking for. Size I know by heart already.

    So if the outer diameter of one pipe is 2 inches, the connecting pipe will need to have a inner diameter of 2 inches? Or will the inner diameter need to be slightly bigger than 2 inches?

    • @ham-bone2082
      @ham-bone2082 11 месяцев назад +1

      That seems insanely priced. I just started doing odd jobs here and there and I've kinda started doing it out of my apartment for a little extra on the side. Just got out of welding school so I'm only charging people for parts and very minimal labor. Id modded my own car before I'm just trying to experiment and put myself out there (I'm obviously certified)

    • @velder22
      @velder22 11 месяцев назад

      @ham-bone2082 yeah it's crazy priced,I literally priced welder because when I have to redo the whole thing I'm just going to buy a welder and do it myself, then I thought about putting an ad out for anybody who needs a little help with their exhaust. I learned welding in high school, so I'm sure I could pick it up quick with some practice
