With the release of Imperium Maledictum, the latest Warhammer 40,000 TTRPG by Cubicle 7 which carries on the legacy of the d100 40kRPG systems, this video is now a bit out of date. We're looking forward to creating content about this great new game!
I'm running a Dank Heresy 1E campaign and having a blast. I added a few homebrew rules such as killing anyone in melee will get you covered in blood, so npcs will react accordingly. I'm a new GM, but know the lore quite well, I can leisurely steal from Dan Abnett without my players knowing lol. One thing I'd like tips on is how to make maps without it taking forever. I've got a gridded whiteboard for combat, but it still takes forever to create
I appreciate the kind words, thank you! There’s probably a little more I could include but I didn’t want to stray too far from providing an overview! It’s been interesting watching history repeat itself to an extent !
These periodically show up on Humble Bundle as a PDF bundle. I've been able to get Dark Heresy, Deathwatch, and Wrath & Glory (I've seen Rogue Trader available as well). So keep an eye out.
Huge 40k fan and got back into it big time the last couple years, I was also in the market for an RPG style game to get into and in itself was tough lol but the Humble Bundle for three complete Warhammer RPGS is incredibly tempting. Thank you for your vids!
im new Wrath and Glory GM and im loving its mechanics! I was GMing WHFantasy 2ed for a LOOONG time and I decide to switch to new (yet kind familiar) setting. This was my first WH40k RPG (but not firs RPG). My players got a more experience (DH2 mostly). We all agree that from mechanics point of view d6 pull system is like a fresh air to our basement. As GM i can tell that WG is like "framework" (similar to old DnD). For example You got classes for players... and instructions how to make You own class. You want to play as Inquisitor? You must choose Ordo - or create Your own Ordo. System is based on new star system - Gilead... But nothing is limiting You. With same rules You can put Your advenutres in Unification Wars era. Great Crusade. Horus Heresy or even War in Heavens. As GM i really like this flexibility and im glad that my players likies this system.
I remember seeing a vid from several years ago about wrath and glory, but couldn’t find the rule book. I’m glad it’s been picked up and better streamlined!
I didn’t know I needed this video until now. I’d seen the books in my FLGS, but never had more than a surface level interest. Thanks for the links. Can’t wait to see more on this from your channel.
I want that video of which RPG to consider! Especially given the new one coming out... Mostly want to know if wrath and glory is worth it vs dark Heresy series because I just can't imagine it is for what I want
This video should answer your question! ruclips.net/video/n96tf5E57qE/видео.html Note there’s a new d100 game in the works, I’ve covered it in my most recent 40kRPG video in the playlist. The next video in the series will cover the changes im expecting to see occur.
This is the idea behind a 40k server I'm creating with all the items, rules, characters and mechanics contained within it with changes suggested in the source books themselves for changes from rpg setting to rpg setting as I'd love to run multiple groups of people with scenarios like one group is an Ordo Xenos retinue and in the course of their investigation the Inquisitor needs to call in a Deathwatch team who can negotiate with a Rogue Trader to infiltrate a Tau world. Or even a Rogue Trader is being paid to transport a regiment who provides a manpower tithe of trained troops as a standing garrison for the Trader's crew.
Thanks for the suggestion! I have less experience with them but I have run a couple of WFRP 4e adventures and a couple of test encounters for the AoS game. I'll look into reviewing my knowledge of them for a potential future video.
I am confused?!? you completely over looked the original 1987 GW release of Rogue Trader. as introduced in the white Dwarf magazine issue 93, "warhammer 40,000 takes the warhammer fantasy roleplay background into the galaxy itself. " "the warhammer 40,000 background is an extension of the warhammer game series, linking the warhammer fantasy battle and warhammer fantasy roleplay games into a complete background." some of the key roleplay items within the Rogue trader book includes; complete point cost breakdown of the stat blocks for regular troops, character models and specialty character jobs (classes). the ability to improve the troop models into characters. to individually equip all troops and characters. when GW released 2nd version of warhammer 40k, they intentionally removed all of these elements and just produced the tactical war game. but the original concept was a role-playing game, with tactical war game capability. final quote "unlike other table top games, warhammer 40,000 places great emphasis on individual models moving within only loose formations. you won't need hundreds of models to play warhammer 40,000, just a dozen will do." clearly, this is designed for role-playing, but capable of tactical combat.
It took me a long time, and a lot of money, to get each of these core books for my library but I finally managed it last year. Though the system is shit, regardless of game, the fluff is usually top-notch and well worth the read. Except for 'Wrath and Glory' which sucks.
@@GrimdarkGamers It was difficult, I had got 'Dark Heresy' when it was new, but didn't start collecting the others until they went out of print and became collector's items. It took me two years of constant looking to finally find an acceptable deal on 'Only War'. During that search to complete my lot, I discovered that there's a lot of shady dealing that goes on with price fixing and rigged trades in the collection community.
Amazing video! By the way, I heard that the Deathwatch RPG wasn't very good without the errata, and that the errata had not yet been integrated into the PDF; is there any truth to that?
Yep they did a whoopsie and went “oh all these weapons are hilariously too powerful” and redid every weapon stat. You’ll have to download the errata separately if you don’t want to rofl stomp everything.
I like this video, but that background music made me think someone was watching an old timey game show somewhere in my house. The loop is way too short, it's making me crazy. Doo dee loo, de doo loo, do de loo. Over and over.
Can't say I much liked Dark Herasy as the concept. Working for the Inquisition in some weird call of cathulu vibe? PASS! Rogue Trader just made me scratch my head in confusion at the time. I had no frame of reference for how they fit into 40k. Black Crusade hit my radar at a bad time; no mmoney. Found out about Deathguard shortly after. Only War is exactly what I was hoping for and it was poorly supported by the company. Their first adventure book could easily be the inciting incident for a Black Crusade game not Only War.
If you want the physical copies, absolutely. The other games are too cost prohibitive now they’re no longer in print, but the digital PDFs are still for sale on drive thru rpg and the community remains strong, very easy games to still get into. I do however completely understand the allure of having the physical books.
So these aren’t the video games apparently, are they more like D&D? I don’t have room for a million miniatures so I’ve never played the tabletop version.
@ Technically all the books are self contained and just owning the core rules is enough to get you started if you’re creative enough to make your own campaigns. Ironically my favorite system and the newest, Imperium Maledictum (released long after this video was made) is actually a little barebones with just the core rule book but they’re now finally releasing the expansion books to flesh out the experience a little more.
My homie said it best when we'd argue during play Said homie: I came in expecting death watch. I wanted to play an ubermesnch space marine bound by HONOR and it is that honor that makes him great. Not his technology, not some backstabbing bullshit or sneaky guerilla warfare. We shouldn't be petty soldiers who fear for our lives or sniveling cowards bargaining with the enemy. Also homie: Oskar should be playing black crusade. He's just crazy, wants to do crazy shit to see what happens, and is an ass. But you Jim, you might be worse. You're a rogue trader. You truly believe you're acting in the best interest of the imperium... By selling planets to the dark eldar? Using tech heresy? Aligning with daemons and aliens alike just to backstab both and forgetting who you're even working with? The worst part is it works. It makes the universe a little bleaker, and the ignorant ecclesiarchy praises you and you get the mega death duke nukem theme. Zach: What about me? Homie: You're just dark heresy. I just got them on a less than legal way online.
This was a good video providing a good overview of existing games.
Keep up the good work!

7:50 that is the biggest advantage of this game :D
😂😂😂
Great video! I really like the idea of the 40k RPGs, but I could never keep them straight. Love the video, keep it up!
Thank you, I’m glad it helped! I’m looking forward to making more 40kRPG content.
Dude you deserve way more subs and views!
This channel and video deserves so much views and subs!
Thank you so much. Kind comments like this really help make my day :)
I remember seeing a vid from several years ago about wrath and glory, but couldn’t find the rule book. I’m glad it’s been picked up and better streamlined!

Played in only war I was a rating sniper it was a absolute blast I am going to be running it in my game group once we finish our dnd 5e game

I think they could make a big game with all of these options inside, not limiting people to one only side of the story

@@ethrsag735I want in on that. Is the server open?
7:45 that sounds like a big upside to me, and I started on the tail-end of 7th edition!
lol! You’re not the first to say that!
Big fan of wrath and glory
Cubicle 7 also have a more rules light d6 variant for WH40 and Fantasy
By the way, there is a Rogue Trader CRPG videogame in deveopement by Owlcat Studios (Pathfinder: Kingslayer). I hope that you can check it out.
I’m very interested in that, looking forward to finding out more !
Dark crusade sounds awesome!
nice overview, thx. =)
i will link this to my players aswell
I appreciate the support, thank you !
I bought the first version of dark heresy ...yay! But also first verson of wrath and glory.......oh
Very helpful video, thank you
Can you do a video about the Warhammer fantasy rpg games to chose like this?
Thanks for the suggestion! I have less experience with them but I have run a couple of WFRP 4e adventures and a couple of test encounters for the AoS game. I'll look into reviewing my knowledge of them for a potential future video.
The almost impossible to acquire original Rogue Trader, aka 40k first edition and Inquisitor, were also more akin to RPG games than war games.
Wrath and glory is simply the best
It's sad that Wrath and Glory is the trash that it is.
FFGs offering was in nearly every way better. It also didn't betray 30 years of history.
Which one is more crunchy?
Are you sure this talked about ALL the 40k warhammer rpgs? i could have sworn there are others.
