Thanks for the tips I kept getting hit with it yesterday in sparring I couldn't get it close definitely going to use this next time again thanks Shane!
Love this video it taught me a lot I was in a street fight with a slightly taller man we are both in our late forties only street fights. I've had three years High School wrestling. I threw a fake front kick trying to get him to drop his right hand he had it cocked back ready to fire a bomb probably has a 4 in reach/height advantage I wanted to stay away . Almost instantly he threw a lead front kick right in my chest "steel toe boots on", went to the ground pretty quick and ended. I ended up with a nasty bruise/ scrape on my left peck, "Moob". I Keep replaying the moment over in my head how should I have reacted to a right leg front kick. Thanks for the lesson great video, clear and concise! Bigman reminds me of Tong Po from kickboxer.

Thanks for making this video! I always found teeps to be very frustrating to defend against because I wasn't shown at my gym how to protect myself against one, so I really appreciate you posting a video on this.
Nilesh Ghadge I think I saw shane say this in another comment but correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think he can because of copyright issues and 'not being family friendly enough' but he does a few on fighttips.com
Sorry if already asked, but why exactly do you think its a good idea to "glue it to your stomach"? 1:09 ? If he knows what hes doing he will keep kicking and get free pretty fast. Also, not a good idea to take the blow first, if its a mean teep, this will hurt you and I dont think it will be that easy to catch it. No, sorry to say this, but I dont think you gave the best fight tips this time.
My coach says to parry and angle off (2:33) which if you exaggerate it enough could land you right behind your opponent. Very useful as it gets them off balance with a parry and (unless it’s a front superman punch) it’s hard to follow up with strikes against it. I usually parry while angling with an L step which puts me into a good position to kick the back leg but you could follow up with anything
Nice Video amazing technices. But can somebody please shortly explain how too counter frontkicks too the face? Is it simular too technick 4? Cause i would like too know a block or parry with hands instant of always sidestepping in the outside.

5 Ways to Defend Against the Teep Kick/Front Snap Kick 1. Parry - Rear Teep/Rear Snap Kick = Parry with right hand low toward your thighs, swatting it away - Front Teep/ Front Snap Kick = Trickier, but use your lead hand instead to swipe it away and spin opponent around. Easy way to remember is whatever leg it is will be your hand from the same side. For example, it is a front teep kick, you will use your lead hand (left hand) to pass it away. Another note is to pass it through, which is simply grabbing the ankle and pushing it to spin them even more. 2. Catching - If it’s the rear teep/rear snap kick, catch and push through the achilles tendon. If it’s the lead teep/rear snap kick, catch and hold the achilles tendon with the left hand, while the right hand reinforces the catch by holding the front of the foot. When you have that, you keep it on your chest tight and pull. Be careful with this because in case they feint with that front teep/front snap kick to throw a jab/cross, you are in trouble. Take the kicks at first to make them feel safe, and then catch it once you’re ready. You can pass the leg any way to feel to throw kicks, sweep, punches etc. 3. Cross Knee - Have a high guard to bait your opponent to hit your body. Then, you use your knees to check and pass the front and rear teeps/front and rear snap kicks, hurting your opponent. 4. Angle Off - When the front teep/front snap kick is throw, step in, angle outside of it to the left, and then throw a jab. You can also go 90 degrees to the right if it’s the same front teep/front snap kick by going out the right side of the front teep/front snap kick. 5. Pulling Hips Back - Slide your feet and hips back or only pull hips to counter.
Hello Shane, at 1:13, he actually lands the kick and they you grab his leg. Wouldn't that leave you with a couple of broken ribs and possibly internal bleeding?
yay just what out coach taught us before... but i haven't done it lately coz most of my sparmates doesn't do teep kick that much. i can catch a roundhouse kick and sweep or catch and spinning back elbow...
Ive seen a karate guy in a super low stance blocking a low kick with the forearm, he had a stance so low he could block almost anything with his arms reach, obviously that wouldnt work in mma or we would see more of it but im curious what you think about that and how usefull it would be for different types of fights... Like boxing, muaythai, mma, streetfights. Etc...
gingercore69 I think he was fast to turn around because being so low he had a low centre of gravity which helps in changing direction, an example is, in football, called soccer by Americans, players with low centre of gravity i.e. shorter players have an advantage in dribbling i.e. running with the ball and changing direction, like Maradona, Messi, Garincha etc. He was slow to move forwards or backwards etc for obvious reasons. Just my personal opinion.
Mohammad Tausif Rafi makes sense, now, i find it weird that he clocked lowkicks and headkicks and any other attack above the knees with his hands and forearms... Shouldnt a shin be stronger than the forearm?
Mohammad Tausif Rafi makes sense, now, i find it weird that he clocked lowkicks and headkicks and any other attack above the knees with his hands and forearms... Shouldnt a shin be stronger than the forearm?
gingercore69 Thank you very much. Personally, I think it definitely would be. Forearm can break against shin which is disastrous in a fight, so blocking low kicks with forearms is not seen in full contact arts like Muay Thai, kick boxing, or MMA as the force of the kicks goes directly against the blocking arm which is weaker than the attacking leg. Also, if the opponent feints a low kick and he drops his hand to block but the opponent throws a high kick to the jaw or neck, it can be a KO. But standing so low, it would be very difficult for him to block with shin as such a stance makes lifting a leg quite hard compared to a more upright stance like those of Muay Thai, kick boxing, MMA etc.
Let me share what i experienced. The way you do no.1 is gonna injure your wrist, especially when the opponent is jumping/charging. Using the sharp bone of the arm and deflecting 45 degrees to the back while side-steping is safer. And combining no.1 and 3 + sidekick from inside is a good setup for delivering a liver blow. Im not a master, just sharing
If you can't predict it good enough to perform these counters, stepping backwards should completely dodge it or make it slightly graze you. Otherwise, unlike roundhouse or leg kicks never step into it because that's when the push kick really shines.
Hi fight tips! Just a question with catching the teep, at my gym we always put the opponents leg to our side so that way they can’t push off your body Has this ever happened or not , just a question All the best Your Dad

shane i have a question. you have done videos about punching power and speed however i hear alot that you can only obtain that through genetics. do you have to be born a puncher to be one or do you have experiences where plyometrics and more of your exercises have helped you obtain your speed and power? do they help very little or is the a significant result if you do them after a while
I was wondering if you could provide me with some tips. I tend to get toe injuries when doing teep or muay Thai kick to defenders. How do I not get my toe digits hurt or bent
All that techniques are good against front leg side kicks, but I think the best technique is parry the side kick with elbows and rotate my body at the same time to get inside or outside enenys guard. Sometimes you hurt the foot of the opponent by parrying the kick with your elbow, this generates some flinch reaction that is good for you
Programming opponent 101-Fient the teep, when they start to try to parry the kick, switch to Lyotos crane kick. Or lift the leg to fient the front kick, and superman punch instead.
Jayden Baker what if he’s a counter fighter ???,I like using parry but I use footwork with it lot karate guys do,your kick misses your open for big counter,
Jayden Baker I’m not talking about side step me personally never side step a teep, lead arm parry but move back creating distance again, you commit to superman punch or crane kick your going to be flat footed when you land, open for big counter,

so since it look like he has no balance when he through the push kick it sure look easy to defend againt. but really if it touches mass it should push all of it away with a sheering action. it will bend the finger if caught lightly
Dont know if catching and gluing to the stomach will work. He can always use his hips to push you back or if has long arms use his boxing. Catching and placing the foot outside of the line of your body would be more effective i think.
That cross knee defense is awesome. Arguably safer than dropping your hands to catch in case the opponent is using the teep as a feint. Nice video.
