He would rather you put your arm out for him to use than you grab him and try to steady or move him because then he is unbalanced by your centre of balance. Looks like that handshake and pull on his hand unsteadied him and he dropped that hand fast. Then the bowing was either a coverup of some lack of balance or caused him to lose his balance further. He talks in his documentary Still about his many experiences of falling. I wish him and his family well. 💖
