sounds just like my orchard heater specially when I burn oil in it, so if you took a little more time put a I turn pipe pushing the heat back to the fuel work even better and need less holes.
I just made this. And it worked. I no longer have old oil in buckets in my garage. Laying around. I also don’t have a garage anymore. But. Hay. It did what it was made to do So I say I’m a half glass full kinda guy. 😂
What a great view of the inside workings of a waste oil burner not covered up by the outer shell. This helps to understand how to build a better more efficient heater. Thanks Gerry
You are definitely wanting this done in a controlled environment. It sure flamed off a lot of energy from that little bit of oil. Sorry the house burnt down, but you at least got heat, lol So Funny.......
I love how you use the heat escaping the pipe to draw the fresh air in. Many others have to or choose to use a fan or forced air of some type and then adjust the fuel to meet that air. Your fires are automatic in a sense and perfect.
This is a great learning example. To burn cleanly you need to match the vaporizer surface area to the airflow. The sputtering like a pulse jet says not enough airflow, with a tin that large as a gas generator, it needs a lot more air. That is also why you are getting flame and smoke out of the flue making way more gas than you have O2 to burn. A conical oil pan allows you to tune the oil vaporization surface to the airflow by simply varying the oil level in the pan. Designing it so the inlet air passes thru a pre-heater also makes it WAY more efficient and less susceptible to wind. Thanks for the video:)
Rronmar, very interesting comments. How small could the burner be if it had a flue pipe of only 40mm diameter? Or what diameter conical oil pan would you use for a stove with a 40mm flue?
Tim Telemark not sure for a 40mm, quite a few variables how tall is the flue, what fuel ect. I have been experimenting with a 3”/75mm flue(54” tall) and a 3” burner with a little over 1’ center airfeed pipe. 3” diameter area is about 7 sq/in minus the center leaves about 6sq/in of fuel area. With that much draft and motor oil it is way too much gas generated and it flares and sputters like this vid. Going to build another one with a 1 3/4” center air pipe( just under 4 sq/in fuel area) and see how that balances out. Also have an idea to simply regulate airflow to help tune it, but it is a fine balance also between air volume and velocity/turbulence. More air holes = more air volume but also = lower velocity and less turbulence which helps combustion efficiency and overall temp.
Thanx its good to know others opinion you seem to know whats what look its a bit fun i wouldnt do it myself knowing me id blow myself up anyhow thank you
Hi D A. I dont need one either but I cant stop making videos lol. Cooking on this stove was fun too ruclips.net/video/tnzEDEpz3Yk/видео.html Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry👍
Sounds like a V1 buzz bomb. Nice and dangerous, I kept waiting for the flue to fall over, and eventually it did. No, it's good to see how simple the idea is. I can see many applications that you could adapt to work with it. Thanks for showing us..
OMG, that was entertaining to watch the entire way thru, what with the Irish accent, the simplistic attitude and the raw fire power just waiting for idk, something more than just heat.
Made me chuckle just listening to the roar from it. It reminded me of an oil and water burner we once made... It worked with oil and water drops, but so long ago now I can't remember... I'll google it. Great video, thank you
yeah your a total stud! thanks for the video, you made the idea rather simplistic by your example! thanks for taking the time to make it....also I liked the effect the wind had, it made it pretty cool! Im gonna build one now
Hi Mike. That unit is very easy to make to see the available heat in waste oil. I made a more durable and much safer unit and you can see it running with and without a fan ruclips.net/video/kQNkefOdwUg/видео.html It works really well and if you check my playlists you will see a ton of videos on how to make it. Cheers Gerry
...heathern heater, surprised you didn't begin with "hold my beer" or "y'all watch'eeyus" .. best backdrop ever. Awesome stage presence. Overall thumbs up.
Of course its just a feasibility experiment . Simple and dangerous but I appreciate the effort. It's very beneficial to understand how simple these can be and then grow into elaborate. THANKS
I love this vidio!!! If conditions are right where nothing will be damaged, I'd try anything!!! This is right up my alley! Thanks Gerry! It just so happen I have an old milk can, stove pipe and old oil
Hi Curt. It really goes nuclear so be careful. The biscuit tin setup was just for fun but I use similar designs in my shed heater and I am now making a water heater stove. here's a link to some of my video builds goo.gl/96qYye Cheers Gerry
"okay so it's a bit dangerous" ... ,[Short pause] ... "okay a lot dangers' ... Danger notwithstanding it was an excellent experiment and an excellent video thank you
Hi Byronsowntime. I will make one with veggie oil tomorrow. It will burn the same but I have something a little different in mind. Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
Hi David. I was just messing around but here's a burner that works great and can heat my whole shed. I made it for about a fiver ruclips.net/video/ShTLaYKjzxw/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Neat and fun presentation. I would use alcohol to start the burn as it is much more readily combustible. An oil burner with a blue flame would be a bit more efficient and clean burning.
Hi Darcy. Makes a ton of heat for a Sweet tin. I made a more robust version for the shed. Here's a a link ruclips.net/video/lU93mSoaJEk/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Thanks I added a drip feed to it in the next video and it was far more controllable ruclips.net/video/WyredKT2VdE/видео.html Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
I was waiting for the pipe to get Airborne 😜 but the burner actualy works real well. My old cheap ass garage used simular system to Heat up the romney hut.
Thanks Steve. I was only experimenting with this one but have lots of working burners and stoves in the playlists ruclips.net/p/PLmQ5wJnkAIoJYDBgSOis9s1yDhcFdswtN Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍👍👍

RIP kids 😅🤭
I did this in my bedroom yesterday, can you do a vid on building a house from ashes?
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Too funny😄
Lucky for you ashes and the bones of the deceased make great concrete
Bhahahaha
I loved your video!
Now that my house has burnt down I have plenty of safe space for the heater. So handy in winter.
You are definitely wanting this done in a controlled environment.

Sorry the house burnt down, but you at least got heat, lol

Going to make one for the mother in law, Christmas present she loves Quality Streets.
Ahh Mother in laws. God bless them. I would need something more powerful for mine. lol Thanks for the comment Made me laugh. 👍 Cheers Gerry
I was just waiting for the wife to come out “Gerry what have I told you about messing around with oil burners in the garden!!!” Lol
Hi Brett. I have a 30 foot x 20 shed and apparently it's not big enough lol. Thanks for the comment. Cheers Gerry
Gerry what did you
Jerry any idea the btus it puts out? Thanks
Ok. I didn’t do this at my home per your requested but I did it at my buddy’s home last night......Now he is living with me!
Hi Xmoders. The burner is a little different but a cheap interesting build. Sorry about the neighbour. 😜 Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry
Love how every safety precaution has been taken, good job
