This is a great way to trial oil burners / heaters.
I added a simple to make drip feed oil supply to the tin can oil burner. This burner is capable of making a lot of heat and can heat the flue / exhaust pipe well over 1200°F over 700°C
Simply made from a sweet tin, a car brake disk and some flue this burner can get red hot in seconds and burn waste oil. Burning waste oil is dangerous so be careful if you are going to give this a try. I show exactly how it is made in the video. Cheers Gerry

Very good Gerry. Maybe people are listening a bit better than in the old days. There's whispers about some shady folks intending to mess with the power grid and heating which we all took for granted may not be available on demand for a while so viewers are searching the internet for alternatives. Even if they don't mess with the grid and just boost the price for fuel and power, it makes sense to find alternatives just in case. Regardless, it was very enjoyable to watch and learn. Take care brother.
Looks like you were exactly right in your assumption there paddy. Take care man
@@metalmark8 I wish I was not my friend. I wish I were just being foolish and worrying over nothing. Have the means to boil water kelly kettle or whatever and fill many water bottles to keep warm at night. God will see you through.😊🙏🙏🙏
@@PaddyNinja seems we are screwed now mate, can't see any way out that's not going to be bad. If I had known all of this before I would never have had children, I fear for them most of all. How can I protect all 5 at once, especially if they have all grown up and moved around the country. It's very scary mate. I've been watching these kinds of videos for years now just incase and I'm so pleased that they exist. Stay safe buddy
@@metalmark8 Your thoughts mirror my own. The only part you left out is everyone thinks I'm crazier than a bag of cats 🤪. Consecrate your children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And make as many small preparations as you can. ie; an extra 20 dollars worth of tinned meat each week and say the Rosary of Provision. I know it's not fair of me to suggest faith, but as evil has a plan, so too does Heaven.
I made a very simple version of this with a steel Hienekin beer 'keg-can' and a couple of sections of stove pipe. I don't know what temp it reached, just that it was glowing red and throwing out a LOT of heat. Thanks for the inspiration!
What is one of those made of...aluminum?
Simple 3 part system, Flipping Awsome Gerry, thanks for sharing
Thank you for the idea I'm going to build one soon with a heat exchanger to port hot air into a living area.
Hi Gerry, I just found your videos earlier this week. Really enjoying them!
Every year I make a brush pile in the back of my property
and burn it in the winter when we have lots of snow cover. Of course the brush pile is covered in snow as well so sometimes it’s hard to get it going. But the past few years I’ve used waste oil to get it started and I’m always amazed at the energy that comes off that stuff! Gets the pile burning in nothing flat! From witnessing that it makes me want to get a waste oil burner to heat my shop, now after seeing what you have done maybe I will make my own. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi. Thanks for the comment Here's a little stove that I made for the shed that makes plenty of heat on little enough oiul about 2 litres per hour but could be increased ruclips.net/video/tnzEDEpz3Yk/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Just watched the video thanks for sharing the link! Oh by the way my name is Russell.
With respected Sir make Briquettes out of the bush and burn them in a stove in the shop.
@@GerrysDiy 2 litres/ hour means about 20 kWat of power. Quite enough to heat a garage or even whole house..
now to see the vid on how to install it in a house
This looks great, such a fierce glow from it.
trick. i can think of quite the many applications for that steam power come's to mind with a little more effort and backyard ingenuity. i like it.
For most shops, this oil burner is large. It is also not hot enough and could use tertiary combustion for completed hydrocarbon conversions.
Add water drip ?!? Thank You Sir !!! AWESOME !!! ****cheers**** =)
Water drip is dangerous... Water flashes to steam ..explosively.. and can thrown oil everywhere....
Lol. Okay, chief.
I thought 5k for a waste oil heater was a lot for my garage workshop. After watching all these DIY waste oil videos that will kill me slowly but surely, I decided $5k is a bargain. Thank you. This was indeed helpful.
Have you heard about the used oil furnace from 1950 that ran on water? Patent was issued to army service men in Texas for ONLY adding water line to T fitting for used oil burner on used jeep engine oil, to get 50% increase in efficiency. That was not what was written in their application for Patent. SS coil tubing in brick insulated firepot of oil burner hooked to input common water line. Oil furnace started. Temperature gauge monitored for temp up to 1500 degrees F. Then valve opened so as superheated steam is allowed in T fitting with oil to nozzel. Nice burn flame runs constant. Then oil line shut off. Furnace still runs. Shock wave from 90 lbs pressure to AMBIANT zero in firepot forms hydrogen and oxygen torch flame that also heats heat exchanger. Normally water molecules separate at about 3-6000 degrees which is too much energy. The vibration shock wave allows for disassociation at lower temperature. Electric motor with dual shafts ran 2 oil pumps at 90lbs. If water shut off, and cooled down, the furnace has to be restarted on oil. (US patent office not allow overunity for public.)
Woooh you better call it Wild Gerrys waste oil burners.
Hi NuttyforNissan The channel is growing and it takes a while to get through the comments but I look forward to hearing from you. I get called nuts quite a bit lol and these tin can thingies are just for fun but seem to be pretty popular . Have a great one Cheers Gerry
I went off of your original videos with the propane tank and made my own a couple years ago. I made mine with a 60 gallon air compressor tank. Heated my 1900 square feet garage last winter and burned around 50 gal of used motor oil.
Hi Jeremy. That's a great result for you, These things can work really well and make a lot of heat. My latest stove / cooker delivers lots of heat without a fan but I have to admit looks a bit nuts lol. Well done and thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
GerrysDiy
Yes it's has done a great job. I do appreciate your videos and guidance and instructions. they were very helpful. Would like to see a jet burner burn barrel to burn debris from yard. I use my blower on one and worked great with a mixture of dryed wood and fresh cut . Jet burner would dry the wood and burn it fast. Might be a idea for you another video.
Use that to drive a big Stirling motor generator combo.
Hi thagrit It would be very easy to make steam from these waste oil burners and a stirling engine could easily work. Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
I did wonder what was going on with the blue fella on the Go-Pro...i should have known you were somehow repurposing something!! Keep up the good work!
Hi Garry. The wind needed to be kept out and the little hedgehog was the nearest thing here to a mic cover. That reminds me I have to do a bit of ordering on amazon. lol Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
I'm going to build one for sure. Tomorrow when the hardware opens I'm going for the pipe and gate....I can hardly wait. Thank you for sharing! Happy building 😁
Have fun! Clint Cheers Gerry 👍
Thank you, sir! You help me very much! Now I can build a stove like this!
Super idea. Pozdrawiam. POLAND.
That is cool my friend.
nice bit of fun. now double wall it and feed it from the heated jacket :)
Hi Drawing Fire. I will be making some boiler stoves with a different burner in the next week. The last one I made was well able to fill my shed with steam and heat 80 US gallons of water in 1 hour + heat the shed. More on that soon. Cheers Gerry
Maybe a steam draft inducer? Sorry if I'm mentioning stuff you've already done, just discovered you yesterday :D
Hi Drawing fire. Thanks for the comment. I have some powered units that I will be making next week and I will be making hot water with it. This will be powered but I might make a passive version too. Do you have a link to a draft inducer. Cheers Gerry
Dự án bếp dầu rất hay cảm ơn
So this is basically a waist oil rocket stove?
Great work!
잘봤습니다 좋은영상 감사합니다~
thank you very much. i am about to build a garage heater and i wasnt sure because everybody make complicated stuff. i think i will use this design but inside a propane tank wood stove. so in case something happen it is contained inside the wood stove.
Terimakasih banyak bos, sangat menginspirasi,
fabulozo y simple ... saludos
great and easy to made .. cheers ....
Dear Gerry. You have demonstrated several waste oil burners that work similarly. Which of the burners is the most optimal in your opinion. I mean the cost and labor consumption of its implementation to the efficiency and ease of use and smokeless combustion. greetings
Was wondering what the hedgehog 🦔 was all about lol 😂 but nice idea and amazing 🥲 waste oil burner 👍
Anyway of making a safety shut off to the oil incase someone has to leave and it gets to hot?
bet your local fire department is nervous
Danke sehr guter ingenior
Yep... This is awesome!
Super 4k video
Was wondering if old diesel fuel would work, and if the smoke would be burnt off as well? Any ideas? Keep up the good work.
Hello
Since the smoke is unburned combustible, from the moment you go over 600°C the smoke will be consumed.
We can't see on top of his pipe, but there is no smoke on this kind of system.
Because as far as you go on hight temperature, you burn it all.
And old oil from engine would definitively work ;)
Absolutely soon as it gets hot it will burn clear
Super ; servicio de calefaccion .Saludos.
👍🇰🇷👍한국에서 응원합니다.
Looks very safe.
No Really !! but good fun and great for developing a new burner Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍
Brilliant, looking at doing this for my workshop 😎👍🏽
Thank you!
I live off grid....that being said I’ve been wondering if I could burn wast oil without a fan pumping air into the burner. Question answered!!!! 😎
Whats the smoke like comming out of the stack
Hi Gerry great video and good sound I don't like coke can I use rockshandy it's the good one for club I am just drinking them now to try it keep the videos going great stuff
Individual independent discovery ;-)
Hi John. It seems I am behind the curve quite a bit but I do get a kick out of them when they work. Thanks very much for the comment. Cheers Gerry
An object with a polished metal surface, for instance, emits far less infrared radiation than the same object painted with matte black paint.
emissivity is the opposite of reflectivity. A high emissivity makes a surface easy to measure using an infrared thermometer; a low emissivity is more of a challenge. Emissivity is usually about 0.95 for most non-reflective non-metals.
Cheers mate
your water hose is leaking
i see that the chimney pipe is red hot, would reducing the diameter restrict the airflow and produce less heat?
I would put a big tank of water around it and run hot water threw copper coils and back into the water tank set up dc fans above the coil to blow the heat over the floor
Great simple design. Love it 🍺
Wondering if you could introduce a small copper coil up through the flume circulating water from a small children’s pool powered by a pond pump. I currently use a gas BBQ with copper coil inside, garden hose, pond pump, works a treat but expensive to run.
If you permanently build the unit next to the pool it should be simple to just weld the copper coil to the flute itself or you can mount a heat exchanger into it and plug the water recirculator into that, you might need a fan to boost the flame if your piping blocks too much of the space in the chimney, depending on how you set it up you wouldn't even need a pump, the hot water would cause itself to move you just need to make sure that the entire pipe is filled with water before you turn on the heat, you would just need to be careful as the water output would be literally 100 degrees Celsius (212f) at the exit. If you put a pump the water will never get that hot before returning to the pool.
Thanks
Hi , How many liters are spent per hour?
So, I'm drinking single malt Irish whiskey as I'm watching this. Total coincidence, but pretty neat all the same.
Hi Rob. I must try the single malt before I make one of these videos again, it might make for more interesting results lol. Thanks for the comment. Cheers Gerry
Um..yes it might make the vid more interesting, just keep it to a limit so the project doesn't end in a trip to the hospital. Haaha. I like all of your vids. Keep doing them!
Btw, it's Tyrconnell. Good stuff, in my opinion.
Take care!
the problem I faced with oil from pickles and similar, is that it can't ignite easily : I had to let it inside drop by drop
This type of burner needs to be red hot to ignite the oil so I start it on Kerosene and when hot enough add the oil and it keeps going on oil alone. hope this helps cheers Gerry
@@GerrysDiy thank you Gerry. Do you think we can obtain blue flame without a fan, just taking the air from the inside? Have a nice day. Paolo.
how does that biscuit tin not melt.
great!
Would have been nice to see the top of the stack and what was coming out of it as you went along...
Hi HeelerHealer Here's a video I posted today with a similar burner where I show the exhaust from the stove and the stack. ruclips.net/video/ytw-eU-F0Rs/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Vent these little guys through a mass and store that heat for later. I tinker with rocket stove design. I try to capture/radiate until I get 325 degrees Fahrenheit due to condensation. With the oils it wouldn't have to be so hot.
Nice and clear video mate. New sub gained
set the emissivity on your thermometer and and will read true
How it smells?
Cheers Gerry
Nice, but i really don't need 1200 degrees. Can we cut that down
Hi David. This was only a demo of a prototype I was expermenting with. Here's a playlist of burners I made and installed in various stove I built too. 👍ruclips.net/p/PLmQ5wJnkAIoJYDBgSOis9s1yDhcFdswtN Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry
Gerry what is your favorite oil burner that you've made? Love the videos!
Hi Josh. I suppose the burner that I use most is my Updraft burner. It's simple and needs no power and is capable of heating my workshop which is 20 x 30 uninsulated. My latest cooker stove / shed heater is a great fit for this burner too and is great for keeping the kettle on the boil for coffee or tea. Thanks for the comment Cheers Gerry
What's the difference between a diesel heater and an oil burner?
Hi Gerry it is great to see the options you keep coming up with it gives us future builders ideas or even confidence to try it ourselves esp when you see how simplified you have got it down to now
O know the Round tin can cause vortices to form when the fire gets going but is their any reason not to try a square oil burning tin? maybe a vain or so inside it could help flow of air
I am just curious for those who build more of a square type of waste oil burning stove to go around it
Tony
Hi Tony. It's been mad on this channel. Views went up by about 0.5m and subs by over 2k in a month. Keeping up with the comments is a little tricky too. I think it would work with a square tin no problem. If there were issues all you would need to do is throw in some type of baffle inside. I am going to be going with powered units next I think. Thanks for the comment. Cheers Gerry
Hi Gerry I'm so glad your channel is growing you are one of the best adviser inventors on Waste oil heaters around Gerry and being a plumber has some validation as well a Idea for you as well How about including a water heating coil in the heater as well as a cook top so you can really make use of any heat created? would you need some sort of regulator on it if so The reason I ask is my sister has a Solar hot water system on her roof and I was thinking of Including the Stove as a heater booster for her Solar heater ( at present she is using an electric one obviously using power to boost the temps)
Tony
Gerry i have watched several of you vids and what your doing is awesome but i have a question ? to see what your thoughts are last year i put an overhead gas heater in my shop and it works really well however when i got the gas bill i all about came unglued and thought well this isnt going to be cost effective so i put an old wood stove in and will keep the shop 70 degrees as long as i keep the fire roaring . but after seeing some of your vids i think this might be another way to go my question is do you think if i set up a burner similar to the one your showing in your vid here to set inside the stove by itself if it would be able to create enough vortex effect to allow it to burn properly in other words the openness of the inside of the stove may be to much volume of air space around the flame to allow it to flow properly without having a flu pipe directly on top of the oil burner housing if this makes any sense thank you Bill from Nevada USA
I decided to make one. I tipped out all the dog food, happy full dog. Took a wheel disk off the misses merc, she’s really pissed, and the bedroom stinks of chip pan oil…. It might need some refining…..
If it was made out of better materials could this be used indoors?
Did you try used motor oil? I have lots, just wondering.
Same here😆✌🖖
That is waste oil, this is a waste oil burner, yes. But this is not permanent, it is only for proof of concept it will only work until it melts apart in a short time. But if you use heavier materials, as well as incorporate knowledge on how to get a complete efficient burn, along with some safety in the design it could be permanent
Which one works the best and the cleanest?
Good grief who eats all those sweets and biscuits and full sugar coke lol.
That is awesome and hey you could burn old cooking oil in your videos so that should keep all the eco warriors happy by repurposing old food oil and not nasty engine oil (though I am going to be using my old engine oil lol)
I have just clicked on all you links for you kickbacks lol, I hope they do work for you.
Finally I saw that blue fluffy toy in another video and wondered if it was a mike sock, I hope you inserted it into the toy gently LOL.
Thanks.
That system does not need any air compressor, only drip waste oil, is it? And with that confuguration, how much waste oil consumption per hour ? may be you could calculate the heat in Watts.
Hi. This was just a demo unit but there is no outside air or compressor just a gravity oil feed and that's it. Have a look at some of the burners I have made in this playlist. ruclips.net/p/PLmQ5wJnkAIoJYDBgSOis9s1yDhcFdswtN Hope this helps Cheers Gerry
Have you ever had the oil in the tube catch fire and carry flames back to the tank? Maybe when the oil runs out? You might put a section of meltable hose in there as a safety mechanism.
Hi Jessie. Here's the drip feed I normally and it allows me to add forced air to the setup if I need to ruclips.net/video/tnzEDEpz3Yk/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Truly curious. Why for the last 10 years or more have you been so obsessed with waste oil heaters ?
was this video drawn with a etch a sketch?
how low will it burn? i have a small area i would like to heat but at the temps of red hot, it will work too well.
I want an omni-wood-oil gasifying self cleaning thing with a focal point of heat, perhaps with lets face it the nicest heat patterns metal can buy?
How does one make a device capable of fully burning all things that could be a display piece?
I want thermometer metals to bend shapes as it heats up, uncurling dragons and thorns in the heat.
Hi NandoDando. I made a waste oil burner that I placed in a domestic boiler stove in my home. It runs on 2 litres of veggie oil per hour. Here's a link ruclips.net/video/SAmHNp6fOUA/видео.html ...... I have made my own stoves too here's a link ruclips.net/video/tnzEDEpz3Yk/видео.html Cheers Gerry
Make waste oil heater with a blue flame.
Great videos Gerry. I'm hoping to build something using more substantial materials. Roughly the same size just heavier gauge material for the hot box. I'd gather those biscuit tins burn out pretty quick eh?
Hi Leslie. The tin would last just a few hours but Here's one I made that heats the shed and you can cook on it too ruclips.net/video/tnzEDEpz3Yk/видео.html Cheers Gerry
hi Gerry what length is the flue pipe , I want too try build 1
that roar......
Hi Lez Once you hear that sound you know it will fire up and make lots of heat. Cheers Gerry
You should show it closer. Give us closeups all way around. Icant see what I'm looking at, and I have built a burner myself so I'm pretty well informed.
جود كيف ممكن اعملها بحجم برميل وتكون في جوده عاليه
Hi Gerry,as mentioned before the one i built smokes a lot ,could it be the length of my exhaust which is 1.8 meters long
It needs more air intake.
Ни одного слова не понял, но схема печки ясна)))
What is the point of making a burner when only the shimney gets got ?
How bad is the smell using veggie oil? What about used cooking oil from restaurants?
Could you measure pollution getting out from this burning stove?
U need put air inside
It's spitting fumes outside u can only burn outdoor this thint
But the first one with the hole in the bottom..if oil is dripping right in there then it's dangerious because burning oil can drip to
outside from the bottom hole !!!????
All your videos show a vertical exhaust I wondered how far you could push a flame along a horizontal chamber before running it out a chimney like a rocket stove burn chamber .[un insulated ]
Smarter people than me come to the conclusion that you must take the stack 600mm vertical before changing direction, then 45degrees , with oil boilers pressure jet or vapourising.
where can i get a steady supply of free oil?
There's so much potential energy in waste oils kinda waste just dump it in the ground and sewers.
Are waste oil burners smokeless?
Can you use waste motor oil?
Yes this will work with most oils. Check out my newest burner in a stove ruclips.net/video/hw3v2gN_sLk/видео.html Will burn most oils too. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry
@@GerrysDiy Thank you. I'll check it out.
Where can I get a gas bottle in Ireland with the valve removed please?
Hi Donal. Plenty of damaged ones in the scrap yards. Taking the valve off is easy but you will need a couple of tools to get it done. Here's a link to one I did a while ago. ruclips.net/video/X_mn38Q7Zmc/видео.html Good luck with you project. Cheers Gerry 👍👍
Thanks Gerry.👍
Can you smother oil with brass?
Where did you get the waste oil from?
