Working principle: The upper body of the stove is the part that generates steam pressure. When the oil is hot enough (gasification), the water creates pressure and sprays on the top of the stove. From there, a pressure melt is formed and the fire is drawn to the surface of the stove top

adding water to oil will make it burn more fierce as the hydrogen in the water attaches to the carbon in the oil, this is a very old principle that was used in space heaters when I was a kid in the 1960s, most garages would make one from gas bottles and they would put brake disks inside to create a heat mass that fed into the overall effect, they're examples of these on youtube, easy to make, and very hot, the stove pipes used to run the length of the workshop/garage to radiate heat through the whole work area, what stopped it was over-zealous council officials who think that burning waste oil is bad for the environment when in fact the overall effect is positive because you not using other energies like piped gas or electricity, it is the ultimate recycling plant, you can make them clean burn by fitting a catalytic exhaust scrubber into the flue pipe, just needs a 12 volt supply and it cleans the omissions, worth a go for the coming winter all you self employed backstreet mechanics, if they are any left nowadays,

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  6 месяцев назад

I appreciate the historical context you've provided about using water in the burning of waste oil for heating. It's true that this method has been used for quite some time, and it can be an effective way to recycle and reuse waste oil while providing heat.
Adding water to the oil can indeed create a more intense and efficient burn due to the hydrogen in the water bonding with the carbon in the oil, releasing additional heat energy. The idea of using catalytic exhaust scrubbers to clean emissions is also a valuable one, as it can help mitigate the environmental impact.
However, it's essential to note that the safety and environmental regulations regarding the burning of waste oil may vary from one location to another. Local authorities may have specific rules and restrictions in place, and it's important to comply with these regulations to ensure safe and environmentally responsible practices.
If someone is considering using this method for heating, it's a good idea to check with local authorities and environmental agencies to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Safety should always be a top priority, and efforts to minimize environmental impact are commendable.

Either way a massive amount of greenhouse gasses are emitted. Burning oil as well as anything to do with combusting fossil fuels is certainly not positive. However there is less harmful options to complete a job or task that may reduce the amount of carbon emitted. Refining and recycling consumes a large amount of fossil fuels as well which is what I think you were talking about.

I saw this idea used in a garage in Ireland in the 60s, they used a pot belly stove with two 20 L containers mounted above the stove. One dripped waste oil onto a cast iron plate inside the stove and the other dripped water. It used up the waste oil and kept the workshop warm in winter. The stove had an air intake at the bottom which was adjustable and the oil and water flow ware also adjustable. When it got going it was extremey hot and it also burned quite clean.

@@luffyhideto2904 When you drop the water on the hot metel plate it is like dropping cold water on a hot frying pan, it causes the oil to spit in all directions. Thinking of using this idea as the feedstock supply for pyrolysis biochar/charcoal. Waste agriculture materials is the usual go to for fuel though, storage space availability limits this process. Waste oils is storage friendly and not wanting to produce large amounts of charcoal, but need consistency supply due to space.
    1 question though..
Is the water application provide steam updraft? Browsed online but can't seem to find the process technique.
I'm a aquaculture technician and contracted chef which my gastronomy preference is organic smokeless charcoal.
In aquaculture air bubbles injected into a pipe acts as a water pump.
So im guessing this may have a similar principle.

Good idea but not efficient and not very controllable obviously. If you add som lava rock into the combustion area and let the oil drip onto them as it burns, it has more surface area to coat and burn on. More oxygen to the flame means cleaner burn. You have to start a bit of wood first to build up some heat so it will allow the oil to burn on its own after. Best configuration is a small fire box under the lava rock/main combustion chamber.

eso pensé genera humo negro y vapores toxicos podria hacer un diseño para desviar y no afectar al que cocina. Lo demás se ve bien

You need to make something to contain the upward flame so I could use it in my concrete garage, all concrete, roof also. Don't want to crack the pad for the sunroom floor above it looks great. Big oversized 2 stall but the roof I can't control and it will be hard to hang anything from the roof if that helps you in a design. Wood is scarce and I only use it in my oven of yours I made and can't hear the house with wood because I cook with it. Let's say that I hoard it for that purpose.

Me parece genial , tengo algunas preguntas !!

It's fascinating to hear about your experiences with this kind of heater. It's true that some of these methods have been used for a long time and have a rich history. While it's a great way to recycle waste oil for heating, as you mentioned, safety precautions are essential to avoid accidents like the one you mentioned. Thank you for sharing your story! If you have any more questions or if there's anything specific you'd like to know, feel free to ask.
