You're a true professional sir. Quite frankly the best how to videos on the web..you don't ramble and waste time and it's INCREDIBLY easy to tell you know you're stuff inside and out and backwards!
Wow! You videos and the way your explain the boiler are amazing. Thanks for your help. Going to check my flame sensor. going to the basement! Thanks From The Bronx, NY
Well I couldn't give up I was determined , so I popped off the pump and took the motor and fan off here it was that plastic 3in bar that connects to the fan onto the pump gear , was busted which with that being said no wheel to move the gear on the pump is no oil to the rodes in the chamber that we cleaned . It all came down to a busted shaft . No heating part store was open so I made my own . Thanks without your videos I would of never been able to troubleshoot it with my buddy who would of thunk it.
+Steven Griffin a flexible coupler, the ends have a round hole with a flat, the inside diameter of the plastic tube can be star shaped or square. made of plastic cut to fit. It couples the motor to the fuel pump. This allows for a small amount of twist as the start up torque of the motor begins and any mis alignment forgivness. there should be a set screw also. I dont recall if there is 1 or 2,
First thing I always checked was the pump coupler. I always had the screens and gaskets on my truck. I thought Webster pumps had a rotating knife instead of the screen.
One day I found a pulse reducer on the floor in my basement. Looked just like the one in this video. Didn't know what it was. Eventually I threw it out. My service guy must have dropped it. I have a Riello 40 F burner so I don't think it's from my burner.
Thanks Gary i was gonna pull the cover off of my webster pump and clean the screen my issue is that when the burner starts it runs great for 2 min then rumbles like a machine gun puff puff puff fills the basement with smoke now that i seen this video im leaning towards sucking air or nozzle im gonna try the clear fuel line trick at the bleeder to see. it seemed to do it once in awhile for 30 sec now its worst its not a big deal i got a wood stove but it would be nice to go to camp and not worry about it new filter good clean fuel chimneys clean this is the first year iv ran it since 2006
Hey boss me and my father were just messing with our oil heater while I pulled up your video almost half your troubleshooting videos step by step we did a run threw , now the fans great , the battery pack thing with the springs is brand new so no need to do the ol screw driver test Iike you did lol, but I hate to type you all this but it's a shot were still without heat but the relay switch when my pops took the cover off the red switch to the relay board it snaps down when you press it and stays down like you have to use that little side switch to pop it back up the only way to turn it on is to lift the thing to the right of it . And lastly it's like the pump isn't sucking oil into the heater . Like everything seems fine but I know that relay board just has to be replaced but the only thing left is the oil being sucked from the oil tank threw the copper into the oil heater to catch the spark from them prong things we cleaned that were in the fan housing you showed us we even cleaned them and spaced them 1/8 " of a inch like you said . If any input it would be kindly appreciated because everywhere is closed today GO FIGURE lol and tomorrow no service calls so I'm all ears boss. Thanks
Is there a fog of oil in the combustion chamber? That will tell you if the is an oil supply problem. No oil, it is a supply problem. Plugged nozzle, plugged lines, filter, air leaks in the suction line from the pump, coupler failure and pump failure are all possibilities. Check them all out. Hope this helps. GFM
that is an anti hum diaphram. The Webster is the one with a rotating triangular razor that chops up everthing ....the first to put a food processor in a feul pump
Grayfurnaceman, after my boiler cuts off, I believe due to the flame sensor, there is still a small flame against the chamber that stays burning. Is this an issue of carbon/other build up or something else? Thanks again.
G NEAR This is probably impingement of the flame on the combustion chamber. Is the chamber coming apart? Nozzle too big. Plugged nozzle? Hope this helps. GFM
Hello Grayfurnanceman. I hope you are still answering questions from this site. I have a Beckett motor very similar to the one in your video. If i press the start button it will start and let oil come from the flush valve. However, very little oil comes from gun line when I disconnect it and do a flush. Seems like I am continuously getting air even though I have bled the line several times. Also, my oil tank sits higher than the furnace so there should be a good gravity flow in the line. However, when I disconnect the line right before where it connects to the oil filter some oil will run out initially and then nothing. I put everything back together after the attempted flush and after a couple of starts and bleeding the line the furnace ran for about 10 mins and then shut back off. I have a Webster pump and I've changed the filter and the nozzle. I will appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Its a Sundstrand, now called Suntec. I don't think its available any more. This and the older Webster are the old bulletproof pumps that seemed to never fail. GFM
Hey gray my issues very intermittent and has been for a bit now... Really p!$$!€g me off lol... How do i diagnose something that aint happening while im at the unit?
grayfurnaceman I kind of had an advantage, You mentioned it in another video. As always, thanks for posting your videos. We really appreciate the effort.
Most of these pumps are secured by one or 2 set screws near where the pump contacts the housing. Very old pumps may have an additional set screw on the coupler where it connects to the blower wheel. Hope this helps. GFM
+William Mack If there is oil in the pump (the pump needs oil inside it to pull vacuum), the pump is turning and oil is available from the tank, no vacuum means pump failure. Hope this helps. GFM

Thanks again for another great video GFM, Front cover chamber, directs incoming oil, prevents oil spining a vortext
Great video GFM! I'm learning from each and every video! Keep up the great work!
I will keep trying.

Hi. What's is impingement? Same nozzle for months. Not sure what a chamber looks like when it's coming apart.
System was on for about 3 minutes then turned off.
G NEAR Impingement is the flame touching the combustion chamber. If it has parts that stick out, it is falling apart.
GFM
Flux capacitor.
CAN I USE THE WHITE PURE SILICON FOR SEALING WINDOWS WOULD IT SEAL HE BACK OF THE OIL PUMP PLATE GOOD FOR 300 DEGREES F ? OLDER WAYNE BURNER KEROSENE

+dexter24816 I would be looking for a blocked outlet from the oil tank. Hope this helps.

That is a cool pump what type and make is it? Thanks Ben
Its a Sundstrand, now called Suntec. I don't think its available any more. This and the older Webster are the old bulletproof pumps that seemed to never fail.
GFM
It's sad it's a throw away world!!
+grayfurnaceman Have you a source for used parts,,,,pumps,,,hard parts,,,, motor bearings and brushes..........????
+Arthur E LeClair I haven't been recommending anyone.
GFM
Hey gray my issues very intermittent and has been for a bit now... Really p!$$!€g me off lol... How do i diagnose something that aint happening while im at the unit?
Every service tech has the same problem. Tell me the symptoms and I will try.
GFM
It's a surge protector
the little black thingy , is that to absorb any water in the line in?
+Rondo Schiavone Its a pulse absorber.
GFM
You mean it absorbs the pulse of the oil in the pump ?
+Rondo Schiavone Yes.
GFM
Was that a magnet to catch the metal trash?
JAMES ST. CLAIR No, its a pulse eliminator.
GFM
Is it a magnet for metal debris ?
charles hagopian Its a pulse reducer. When a pulse comes thru it compresses the disc (it has air inside) to reduce the shock.
GFM
+grayfurnaceman Thank you for your generous time and help.....Like Charles said,,,,,I thought it was a magnet..........
+Arthur E LeClair Question : Does this Pulse Reducer absorb endplay from the electric motor driving the pump ???
Magnet?
It's for making the jack sauce
spring or something to chop up frozen hazy oil ?
Its a pump pulse eliminator.
GFM
thanx...
how do i fix an impingement?
G NEAR You probably have to replace the combustion chamber.
GFM
Please someone can tell me how to take out the old pump and replace for new one. Thank you
Pulse eliminator?
You win! You are the good guy.
GFM
grayfurnaceman I kind of had an advantage, You mentioned it in another video. As always, thanks for posting your videos. We really appreciate the effort.
deanmartin1966 Darn! I forgot about that.
GFM
grayfurnaceman See I pay attention during class. Lol
it's something left behind from the factory on a Friday night....remove it, everything will work fine now. j/k
how you take out that pump. please
Most of these pumps are secured by one or 2 set screws near where the pump contacts the housing. Very old pumps may have an additional set screw on the coupler where it connects to the blower wheel. Hope this helps.
GFM
Thank you very much.
You showed how to check the screen but didn't really get into why no vacuum if the screen is clean.
+William Mack If there is oil in the pump (the pump needs oil inside it to pull vacuum), the pump is turning and oil is available from the tank, no vacuum means pump failure. Hope this helps.
GFM
@@grayfurnaceman At that point, pump needs replaced?
@@jeffreymarcum4383 Yup.
GFM
Check your coupling
it's maybe a tampon?
anthony cundiff Its a pulse eliminator. Its filled with air and absorbs the pulses. Tampon?

no just kidding don't kick me out of school
