- This one begins the oil furnace troubleshoot with symptoms of no fire and no burner motor.
This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits.
I wanted to thank you for putting all the videos up about oil furnaces. I had some prior knowledge about them but thanks to you I am able to diagnose and repair ours in about half the time. We dont have alot of extra money so the knowledge you have given is valuable and the reason my family is warm tonight. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS
Wayne Decker Its good to be warm.

GFM
Thank you for your videos. Furnace was down and repairmen are too busy right now , winter time and all. Wacthed the trouble shooting videos and got my furnace up and joining. Will have it serviced when the repairmen are not so busy. Your easy to understand videos saved the day and are greatly appreciated
Merry Christmas

I know this is an old video, but it helped me get my oil burner going tonight when the temperature outside hit zero. In my case, the oil pump seized. I took it apart and cleaned it when brake cleaner and pulled out the shaft and removed the rust deposit, then greased it up and put it back together. What I didn't know was the reset on the back side of the motor tripped. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
thanks for your free help. It is so nice to have youtube help when you are all alone and have no one to help you.
this gentleman knows what you say is more important yet he knows how to explain thank you very much for your kindness I wish you all the best
Thanks for the support.
GFM
I assess home repairs for an insurance company and your videos have helped a lot. Thanks for taking the time to put them up

GFM
Thanks for the great videos. You are my favorite professor at RUclips university right now. 2 down oil furnaces on the farm up and running thanks to your tutelage.
Glad you got them going.
GFM
Thank you so much for posting all your videos! I've fixed my old oil furnace several times with your help. And after calling several companies that never showed up for appointments, I would probably still be freezing. Each repair usually cost me less than $20, when a visit for an estimate was quoted at $125.
Glad I could help.
GFM
Thank you for sharing your knowledge for free. I just fixed my oil burner because of you. I would have cost $300 dollars I did it for free. Thank you
Glad you got it working.
GFM
this video just saved me probably hundreds of dollars. turned out it was the motor on mine. swapped it out and now it runs like new. and Ive never worked on a furnace before. if your ever in NY I owe you a beer. thanks
Robert Martinez It could happen.
GFM
GFM, I just need to tell you your oil furnace troubleshooting steps have saved my family and I from freezing tonight and times before. I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge and time spent making these videos. I had ran my tank dry and just got oil today but could not figure out why the gun was not getting fuel. I guess I needed to purge the air out of the pump and suddenly I had pressure at the gun again . If it wasn't for your tips I would not have heat tonight.
Its good to be warm.
GFM
Thank you very much, Mr. Gray. I follow your steps, my furnace wasn't working. Now is doing great. I save 400.00. Thank you for my Christmas gift with this information. Regards

GFM
Thanks for the video! Came home to the indoor temp at 61 and the heat was set to 63. Thermostat would click on but the furnace never fired up.
Cut power at the fuse box, opened the motor to rotate the blower (which rotated smooth), pressed the red button as mentioned in the beginning, flipped the breaker, turned on thermostat, and it fired right up.
Like is good. Hope it stays on.
GFM
never mind. I found the problem. one of the contracts on the starter inside the control box is burnt off.
thank you for putting so much information out there. it's an amazing resource.
God bless you for all the videos you show us and God bless you for who you are. Thanks
Thanks for the support.
GFM
Very helpful! Couldn't fix the problem myself because it turned out to be the cutout box, but at least I'd ruled out the basic stuff thanks to your video before calling for help. :)

I just watched a technician replace my motor. My reset button on the motor had popped. He said there was a dead spot in the motor and it couldn’t start when it hit that dead spot. I had heard a weird buzz earlier. I enjoyed watching this video. My new motor does not have a reset button. I wish it did.
Great videos very well presented info. I'm in a mostly gas & propane area but was trying to help a friend in a mostly oil heat area. This should do the trick for him very well. Thanks so much. Mr Gray. There once was oil use in this area but it all died during the first oil shock in 1973.
My reset button (almost black) was not as east to see as your demonstrator so I didn't think to look for it until I saw your video. I compliment your step by step process. I was prepared to replace the motor. I did have to free up the motor (the apparent cause of the reset tripping) and maybe the problem will reoccur, but I will not have to replace the motor this month.
Cross your fingers that it stays on.

Had a odd problem once..my furnaced worked fine +- then I had to push the motor reset in the morning then all was well till the next morning had to reset only once in morning after over night temp turned down..went to furnace store..great guy told me he had that problem once it was a weak button return spring? he said next time tap the control box with something..I did. It reset...but a new control box...experianced folks are great..thanks for videos sid
I want to THANK YOU! Oil burner locked out and did not restart. Did the normal maintenance - filter, cleaned gun, changed nozzle. Still nothing. Realized no oil to the gun, so took the whole thing apart looking for something clogged. Nothing. I thought maybe the pump was not working - flummoxed. Called for repair guy, but it's New Years Day and the guy said it was $300/hour. I decided I'd wait for Monday. Then saw that Home Depot has the pump so I figured it was worth it to try and just swap the pump. $100 and 1 day later, but this did not fix it. Then I thought maybe it's sludge in the line and the pump just can't pump it. Cleared out the entire line by disconnecting from the tank and the burner and literally blew it out with my own lungs - lots of crud, but still didn't fix the problem. Ran clear from the tank to the burner, much faster now, but still would not fire. Then I remembered you said something about the coupling and I pulled that out and looked at it more carefully. It would spin if I put it on by hand with the pump out, but then I had an "ah hah" moment. The thing was partially reamed out and would not spin the pump when it was assembled. Tried to find the part on a Sunday, but no dice. Bought some crazy glue, cut a tiny piece of plastic from the packaging and glued it in where it was supposed to have a flat edge. Banged it on from the blower motor side and reassembled. Tested it first by disconnecting the gun piping part and held a big plastic cup to that side - it spewed out oil like a champ! Reconnected everything and now the house is nice and toasty again. You need to have a special video devoted to those stupid plastic couplings. I wonder how often they fail? My instincts were right but I did not even suspect that thing.
Glad you got it going.
GFM
Just found you on youtube, i'm trying to use a fuel oil burner to melt aluminium and you really provide an abundance of information. Thank you!
+Liquid Pie Merry Christmas
GFM
+grayfurnaceman You too man!
Thank you for the step by step demonstration. It worked perfectly on my furnace.
+Neil Veloz Glad I could help.
GFM
Hey thx Grayfurnaceman, your video helped me realize my problem instantly!!! lol. I was bleeding the line on my oil furnace, when the reset button stopped working on the 3rd try. I thought we were gonna need an entire new Honeywell primary ignition unit.......Unitil i remembered one of the 1st things you said..."turn the thermostat up". There was nothing wrong with the reset button, the furnace was ready to go and just waiting "our command".
I usually remember that but, my brain was thinking the worst & how much this was going to cost to call in a "pro". THX again....& holy crap i hate winter.😠
I always set the thermostat up as high as it will go. Even then, the customer will sometimes change it while I am working on it.
GFM
grayfurnaceman funny😠
it was the cad cell! a week without heat sucked! thank you so much!
+dandanzoo Welcome

never touched the furnace in my parents house, the button you show at 1:30 i tried and it turned right on like normal. im glad people like you excist on youtube XD
Thank you so much!! I fixed it this morning.
Your info saved me! Had to open it and turn the motor.

Thank you!!!! Saved me a trouble call 2 minutes into your video. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Exactly what I’ve been looking for thanks
Thank you for putting this video out. It was immensely helpful

It's to bad we don't have the fuel quality we had fifty years ago or the mini pumps might just last that long. I just a fan of preventative maintenance and after 18 years in the field are no longer a fan of the older stuff. You old school guys taught me so it's your fault I know this stuff. Thank you!
Welcome!
GFM
You saved me alot of money man much apreciated
Thank you for this well made video!
Thanks! Our furnace was refusing to go on day after Thanksgiving and it was freezing. We were about to call service guy, but I watched your video and we found switch popped on the motor and got it started again.
Janine Moore I would purchase another motor because it will probably do it again.
GFM
grayfurnaceman okay. Thank you.
great info, helped me with my issue, part 2 also.
very nice video, straight to the the point, good job.
Great video series. Thanks for posting.

Very usefull videos for us DIY types. Where would you suggest I look if one of two heating zones are not getting heat ? I can hear the relay clicking on/off as I turn the thermostat high and low. The thermostat goes to a control board that also has the water temperature controls. The furnace works as it should for the upstairs zone. Thanks for making these videos.
Question for you. We’ve talked in the past about the first mobile oil furnace that I have made a video of. The question is I’m installing a second one to heat my greenhouse. This one is a around 85’000btus compared to the one I first installed that is 63’000 it’s going to be in its own little shed attached to the greenhouse, on the one in my dad‘s workshop there is no barometric damper on the 4 inch pipe that is basically directly leaving the building and going out about 4 feet from the building with a T fitting then going up another 4 feet with a cap. On the one in my greenhouse the building is 8 x 8 and I plan on going out the flat wall 8 feet from the furnace and doing the similar T fitting and probably 2 feet of pipe up with a cap, do I need to get a 4 inch barometric damper or do these furnaces not require them? Thanks again for the help in the past Ben
Fantastic video and learned alot about my furnace over the past 30 years.
I do have a question, I have a Weil McLain oil burner with a becket. I have hot water baseboard 1 zone as well as radiant floor heat in my kitchen. I noticed that sometimes the burner will start and then shut off after 4 seconds, then fire back up and all is good. What would cause this issue? Thanks
Thank you so much! Great step by step videos. 😁👍

Hi.. Looking to do some maintenance on my oil burner furnace... someone did it last season, but actually ruined my cad cell.. Unknown if it was intentional, but he was actually expecting my call..... and of course the coldest part of the year... and my hunting Cabin had no heat.. i fixed because of your video. and steps on how to maintain.. what to clean? get new nozzle? anything? thanks.
Wow - great video series - i've been watching your vids, and just came across what i believe to be relevant to my situation... it's an oil boiler, not furnace, but the problem seems analogous. an elderly aunt's boiler has apparently not worked properly in years. As witnessed by me, she presses the reset button, there's an electrical hum - then she taps the side of the burner motor with a rubber mallet she keeps down there just for this purpose. Sometimes it takes a few moderate whacks, and eventually kicks over. It'll run fine until it's no longer needed (thermostat up to temp) - and then she'll repeat this process the next time she needs heat. I'm finding a tech anyway to come in and service the system, but at this point, i'm suspecting i should be ready for a new burner motor - was this a common need "back when" - because she seemed to act like it was no big deal, and she's always done it like this, lol.
You Sir are the man, Thank you very much.
Awesome... now that was great lots of helpful stuff.. now to try to fix mine..just has a slite click but nothing.
First, check the overload on the pump motor. If it has popped out, reset it.
GFM
Thanks GFM you rock and I have learned much. thanks again

Love your videos! I am having this issue: I have an oil fired boiler. I have to press the red reset button to start the burner. It then runs fine until it reaches the high limit temperature (180) (low is set to 120).... Then the boiler shuts off and trips the red reset button. The red light illuminates. If I press it once the burner will start again until it reaches temperature then it trips the circuit once again. I've replaced the CAD sensor, electrodes and set the electrodes with the Beckett gauge, replaced the fuel nozzle, all the filters and the Honeywell R8184 relay. The aqua stat is a very old Honeywell. Not sure of the model. Could it be the aquastat causing this problem?
The relay should not trip the burner safety. There has to be a flame problem.
GFM
there is a reset on the motor but it never popped. removed the motor and put power to it works fine. I will check the cad cell, thanks for the information!
check the glass photo eye too make sure it is clean as it senses the flame and talks to the ignitor to stay on once it senses a flame. If dirty burner will shut off.
I have an intermittent lock out issue. Becket burner fires and runs fine for weeks. If we get a warm spell, and it doesn't run for 8 hours or so, it locks out. The top of the control module is very warm ? and it won't restart when reset..Unless I turn the power off to the furnace for a few hours, and try restarting again. It fires right up and will run fine till the next warm spell. Any insight is appreciated !!!
You may have a problem establishing draft up the chimney. If the unit rumbles upon startup, this may be your problem. Look for restrictions in the smoke pipe and chimney.
GFM
Why would i have to reset the trip on cad cell relay every few weeks now. I paid for a $200 service call for the first time it happened. I have the boiler cleaned and serviced every year. Basically they couldnt find anything wrong but replaced the nozzle anyway. They also said the arc on transformer was ok but not the best, but still they though it was sufficient. The motor wasnt tripped off, but when i hit the reset it instantly fired up. I did however notice after observing it fire up the on occasion when motor comes on it instantly fired up but sometimes it took a second or 2 to fire up. The boileris a beckett AFG. I dont want to start throwing a ton of money at it if i can narrow down the cause. I have watched almost all of your videos and your very informative. Any information you can advise me on would be very helpful. Thank you sir
Henry
I have a Becket that just stopped. I isolated the motor, the motor works. Since the gray box has a black (hot), white (neutral) and redish wire (switch leg) coming out of it, it must be this box. Hundred dollars plus, no it wasn't the gray box. It still sat there and did nothing. I disconnected the "Beckett Electronic Igniter and it works without igniting. Replaced the Igniter and now have heat. Hope this help other people.
Thanks for your video! Turns out the motor just needed to be reset and now everything works great.
Glad you got it
GFM
Hi GFM, I have the same type of Beckett in your video. Just started using my furnace this year the other day. It ran a few times and then quit. I followed your trouble shooting steps and the Blower was very tight (locked) when I tried turning it. However, it started turning pretty freely after I put a little force on the screwdriver. I've used the furnace a couple more times and it is running OK. Now I am concerned that something is wrong that made the blower lock up. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do to prevent this from happening again. If something is going bad I would like to replace it now. Also, with guidance from your video I put a new pump on it last year. Thanks.
I got a huge problem wit my furence last night around 12 hours ago it stopped working theirs lots of hot water but no heat the thermostat is turned up to the max and still the furence ain’t kicking in I hit the reset button nothing no power I checked the fuse it’s still good, I don’t kno what’s going on I have lots of hot water but no heat would it be the diverter valve ?
First, not enough info to tell. Possible pump problems?
GFM
Excellent job
Thank you so much, my furnace is working again!
Welcome
GFM
Carlos E Lopez how do i purge furnace
You only need to purge a single pipe system. There is a bleeder valve on the pump that you can open while the burner motor is on to purge and clear air.
GFM
Hi it's Jan 1st my furnace would not start thanks to your video it was able to start it may thanks
nick4556 Great way to start the new year.
GFM
Hello! And thank you! I was sooooo hoping I had just run out of oil. Measuring 4 inches @ 17 gallons... crap! The reset has triggered. I did note that the basement smelled a little of oil. I reset it. It sounded hopeful. I could hear what sounded like oil spraying... but it didn't ignite and the reset triggered again. Now what? I will continue seeking out your videos to see if I can't pin it down... between property taxes and income taxes I'm about all tapped out until a month or two after April and my truck decided to break down just yesterday TOO! I need to try to tackle this myself even though I'm scared to death of blowing up the house. How do I know that the oil is coming in and not igniting? (as I suspect) If that is the case what do I do? I'm afraid to hit the reset again... if I have unspent fuel piling up in there it could go boom, right?
I have a Repco GM - Series Gas Fired Boiler. [30 years old?] Pilot will not stay lit. Emergency switch on wall up stairs will not fired boiler when thrown on. No power to boiler. If there is no power, will the pilot flame extinguish? Is there a reset set switch on the unit? Thank You for your feedback. Joe, Long Island. P.S. Burnin' the midnight oil with the kerosene lamps and sleepin' in the den.
If the unit is a standing pilot, the pilot will not go out if power is off. I would be checking breakers and power switches. As for a reset, I don't know.
GFM
GFM, are you meaning the pilot vertical, as per standing? As i looked, it seems to be horizontal. I will throw the Mains. Thanks for being there! Joe, L.I., N.Y.
Hi gray
I enjoy watching and listening to your guides on these burners. I am scratching my head at my latest problem. I changed the oil filter, and was bleeding the pump when the safety locked out on me. I have not been able to get the fan to spin since, do you have a recommendation for me to try, p.s. the motor is good and it checked out fine
Thanks 4 video. Would you have any hints for maintenance for a furnace with an outside oil tank (not by choice)in the Northeast? I always have the furnace serviced in late fall, but it always seems to give me issues around mid Winter, requiring a service man to come in.
The most helpful thing you can do is order #1 stove oil instead of #2 fuel oil during the coldest temps. Usually 100 gallons in a 275 gal tank will keep it from gelling.
GFM
Awesome, my spun but only a bit then stopped, only went back and forth, i pushed a little hard and it came unstuck (i guess same effect as hitting with hammer) thanks!
Hold your reset button for 45 to 50 seconds that may reset it.My blower moved easily and i held it for 45 to 50 seconds and it came on try it if on lockout.I ran out of oil the winter before.Put in a about 15 gallons from my Dads tank and it came on when i did this.
Mr. Gray ...great video... I have a Wayne oil burner with a Delavan .50 80 degree A gun nozzle ... I assume the .50 is in gallons per minute. If I replace the old nozzle with a .60 80 degree A, will I have trouble?.. Will the extra .1 gallons per minute be a problem.
You will need to adjust the air shutter to compensate.
GFM
I have a very similar Beckett burner and i have to push the actual grey square relay (under the cover) down to get the furnace to kick on. It runs one cycle each time I do this. It wont kick on if I jumper the thermostat at the relay. The ac still works fine from the thermostat and will cycle all day. Any ideas?? Thanks! Your videos have been a big help in narrowing it down so far...
You could have several possibilities here. The cad cell relay may have failed. You could have a poor signal from the cad cell, or you could have a flame failure from a blocked filter. Hope this helps.
GFM
interesting point you make that the cad cell shouldn't see light before the flame lights...thanks for that...
Fantastic set of videos and great info on your website. Thank you very much for doing this for us DIY guys. I'm hoping you can help me out with a question though. I've gone through the diagnostics you've shown here. I ended up replacing the motor just in case as it was spinning very freely and I figured why not. After changing it though, same issue. Heater kicks on, sparks, but the fan/pump motor won't turn at all. I'm thinking the fan should kick on to pump fuel into the chamber, the ignite. Do I have that backwards? Is possibly my cad cell relay is the issue?
Chris Davis Sounds like the cad cell relay may not be sending power to the motor. If you can use a voltmeter, check the wires going to the motor before it safeties out.
GFM
I tested with my multimeter and the output was 10% of the input. By passed the Honeywell to power the pump and everything spun up. New part ordered :) once again thank you the educational information shared on your sites.
Thank you very much for this video. Your tip worked!!

Thank you. I was learning this today.

sire i have a question if i have a cabin 13*4*2.70 meter and i need to choose a stable
oil (gasoline) burner furnace . how i choose and how much power do i have to chose ? cabin is for curing painting fiber please answer as soon as possible thank
Hi GFM I have an old Olsen oil furnace. It lights up and cycles, but the blower motor won't kick on. I'm was thinking maybe blower motor or capacitor. The motor spins freely, I just can't find the capacitor. I don't know what I should do please help.
It may not have a capacitor.
I would be checking for power to the motor. No power, look to the fan switch.
GFM
Morning gray,
I would like to ask a few questions. I have a Beckett burner on a hot air furnace. I purchased the home new 15 years ago, but thought the burner was 1988 or so. I believe it is an AF model. I had some work done last year and the tech took the motor off. Well it was never mounted back flush to housing. So had a different tech this year for a cleaning and told him my issues. I also asked about the motor. He reseated the motor and now it makes a noise. The initial reason I had him come out, is my furnace seemed to run every ten minutes. He put original nozzle .65x80 back in and seems better. Not sure if switches(limit) could be an issue also. I guess I am just trying to figure motor out as it is cold season here and would buy a motor and coupling to have in case of issue. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Also no specs on side of motor. I think 1/7th HP and 3450 rpm, my thought, but not sure frame or mount type. Will a grainger motor work or a better place available? Thank you for any ideas or help.
13174mrh The oil burner motor for the Beckett has a special mount that is for oil burners only. It is a 1/7hp 3450 rpm. As for the noise, it could be the coupling between the motor and the pump. Hope this helps.
GFM
Been watching your vids, but can't seem to see my problem. My boiler will start and run when I hit reset switch and it runs fine. When it shuts down it won't restart on it's own. I can hear it making a humming noise, but it won't actually start unless I hit reset again. Then it runs for a while and heats up until it shuts down again. When it's running it seems to run fine. I'm not sure what to check. you have any videos on that?
My thoughts are that you could have an oil supply problem. A plugged oil filter or supply line blockage are common.
GFM
@@grayfurnaceman Ok. I just changed the filter and nozzle about a week or so ago. Filter is new and when I bled it it was a strong flow. If I hit reset it fires right up and runs like it should so oil seems to be flowing. It's just when it shuts off it doesn't start back up. Like it doesn't even attempt to. If oil flow was an issue, wouldn't it at least try to start then lock out? I was hoping I could fix it because I like to know how to maintain it, but I might have to call a guy in. I just rebuilt the burn chamber and it ran great for a week before this problem. Great videos BTW.
Have power, no start. Unit got hit in a basement flood to the top of the blower. Should I bother troubleshooting or just replace everything?
If you have the choice, replace it all.
GFM
My R7184 A 1075 primary controler just makes a slight hum from the relays and they are not pulling in.
I don't get a relay click even with the CAD CELL disconnected.
I have 121 volts to the controler.
I'm thinking it's the primary controler, what eles could it be?
If you have pressed the reset 3 times with no ignition, the control locks out.
To get it out of lockout, hold the reset button for 30 seconds or until the light blinks twice.
GFM
Gray I accidentally cut the wire from my thermostat to my oil furnace I reconnected where I cut the wires but now my oils furnace does not turn on . I can hear the click noise from when I turn my thermostat on but no heat
Hello thanks for the great videos. Just wanna ask you a question. where would the flame sensor be located in this particular oil furnace? And can using diesel be any effect to this unit?
Jermaine Thompson The flame sensor is a light sensitive cad cell pointing towards the flame beneath the transformer. #2 diesel is more or less the same as fuel oil. Road diesel may have additives for use as a motor fuel and is more expensive. Hope this helps.
GFM
hi yes I have a Honeywell oil furnace and its been here for a while but when I turn it on manually with the power switch it just clicks with a green light flashing and then clicks again and light goes off and I tried to test the igniter it didn't give out a zap but it could be something else but I hope u can give my suggestions and also I have a huge oil tank that runs into the basement and the valve is off should I turn it on?
The tank valve must be on for the unit to have access to oil. Does the burner motor start?
GFM
Awesome video, very detailed!!
Thanks for the support.
GFM
I have a Beckett oil burner with hot water heater. I have purchased three controls the one to the right of the unit that has the button you use to restart the burner. They all cost about $100. - $125 each. The first two lasted less then a year. The next one I purchased never worked and the shop would not take it back. Now I have to get another one. What do you think the problem is? It was installed by Viano Heating and Cooling, of Poughkeepsie NY. and the main owner who worked on the boiler has passed on. I called another company and they want $125. to come out that is applied to the first 15 minutes!
Marine Atlantic
Thanks so much my reset button was covered in dust and didn't see it.
Haha my boiler is in the back of my wood shop, I had simulator problem guess it’s time to filter the air feeding my boiler room.
Hi, when i push my red button box, the boiler does not stay on, i am wondering about 3 loose wires in this box. I will check out the colours if you think you can help, thanks.
bazzer245 Does the unit fire off, then shut down after approx 1 minute?
GFM
If your tank was empty it sucked air into the oil line you will cave to open the bleeder valve on the pump while the unit is running, you should see bubbles coming out in the oil, hold it open until the bubbles stop then close it and you should get fire immediately. If nothing comes out you have a clogged oil line / filter at the tank
Hello , I am getting blowbacks on my beckett fuel oil furnace. i put new filter on and replaced the pump screen and gasket. I have a new nozzle here. The furnace is not lighting sometimes but If I lightly tap the pump on the side with a small wrench it kicks right on . Now I am left wondering , is it the nozzle, the pump, or the coupler....
John Peterson I would be looking at the pump solenoid if it has one. Could also have a spark problem. Shorting to ground, or a failing transformer. Hope this helps.
GFM
What does it mean if the manual reset button does NOT pop out and the furnace still won't turn on?
very much appreciated this video of yours thank you, my furnace is running nicely again.
Glad you got it going.
GFM
squishy cuttinging
Great video man, very informative.
Thanks for the support.
GFM
My oil burner will run sometimes for days, and sometimes only for seconds after I push the red button. It is completely random and I have put a new filter on the line and a new nozzle. Why does it keep shutting down? Great videos btw!
First, does the flame come on when you press the reset? If the flame is coming on and it still shuts down during the 40 second trial for ignition, There may be a sensing problem. Clean the cad cell first. If that does not help, check the resistance of the cad cell dark(20000+ ohms) lit(less than 1000 ohms). If all checks out, the cad cell relay. Hope this helps.
GFM
where can I buy parts? everyone listed is a wholesaler, or a contractor.
thanks you saved me a bunch of money!!!!
Welcome
GFM
Your videos are a big help, thank you for putting them out there.
With the thermostat calling heat if you push that reset and you have power you well hear a click and a hum. Unless the primary control or thermostat or thermostat wire has gone bad or you have lost a neutral.
thanks for the tip i really appreciate it saved me a house call
a pin hole leak in my standard water plumbing pipe squirted water into the box that has the reset button and tripped the burner and now the indicator light is on. If I dry it off, is it safe to press the reset button? Thanks
SuperJV4x I would not trust it. Big time safety hazard. Replace it.

The motor runs when I give it direct power and the pump isn't bad where would you turn next? Maybe the cad cell?
If the pump does not start when there is a call for heat, have you reset the cad cell relay?
