I used to deliver fuel, midnight shift was the absolute best. The terminals are empty, so you can get loaded without waiting, sometimes hours. The roads are almost empty so traffic isn’t an issue. Way less chances of problems from bad drivers. The gas station is either closed or basically empty, so your delivery goes way smoother too.
It may not be conducive to a certain life style but the job is probably 90% easier at night.

Makes sense that you have to have all of your endorsements for FedEx Freight, because you have to have a tanker endorsement to haul even just 500 gallons of any liquid in a liquid tote container (The gallons might be different). Same with hazardous materials like small Coleman camping sized propane canisters. Even if it is just one box in a trailer full of other non hazardous camping supplies, a hazardous endorsement may still be required to haul that one box of propane canisters.

As a former truck driver. This is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world . If you have an “accident” BOOM you’re dead. If someone runs into the back of your truck BOOM you’re dead. If someone runs a red light and hits you BOOM you’re dead . Everyday you climb in that truck carrying fuel you’ll say your prayers and call your loved ones to tell them you love them if anything happens . It pays that well for a reason .

On the weekends your significant other wants to do something, anything since you have been gone all week. You flip your schedule as I did and get maybe 4hrs of sleep then go ride or drive, enjoy nice meals and music. Sleep hard that night and the next day do it all over again. Sunday night you have to stay up all night to flip your schedule back again. You arrive at work Monday night DEAD, and do it all over again. I was making $50hr. Your body just can't keep doing this over time, trust me.

Trades, and jobs like that, not only pay well, they are highly respectable when performed with meticulous attention to the work and safety. Folks out there without a formal education, read this closely.
Being a professional is not about having a college degree. It is about your attitude, your integrity, seriousness about doing the job well, actively seeking to learn more about the work you do, and never compromising established principles for greater profit. Men hunger for that kind of situation because there is no guilt, but great pride, and we sleep very well knowing we've performed the job at least to expectations, and even beyond.
