Gilby is a class act. He came in, did his job, didn't start any shit, just a good dude. Couldn't image dealing with the shit he dealt with.
Axl almost left these guys broke, he wasn't paying' em, the whole truth..
That band turned into a bunch idiot rock stars. Slash being a great singer is one messed up person.
seen Gilby in a little place in lorain ohio back in a day, talked to him and he was an excellent person. I don't think axl would have even said hi!

Paychecks...This is my one issue with Axl; it's not really a band anymore if the band members are employees.
Gilbert's only GNR'S album was "Spaghetti incident".

I know some dark secrets of axles from way back in the day and how some guns n roses songs were acquired with hot shots of heroin killing the original writer and getting them out of the way..... Then waxl would just commandeer the song...

They should have kept him in my opinion... even though I prefer the original guitarist Izzy I think he did a decent job and fit in. I think it would have given the band more credibility etc. Its total bullshit how they treated him. Riki is actually a very cool guy and I like his podcast...
In my opinion Izzy is not only a criminally underrated guitar player and song writer but he was the real talent behind Guns N Roses. He was surprisingly more professional than the rest of the band and I’m sure he just got fed up with Axl’s Bullsh*t and the bands uncontrollable drug and alcohol abuse. He was no saint by any means. I’m sure Izzy had his own demons to contend with but the constant drama in the band and Axl’s attitude is what caused him to have several riffs and falling outs with the other members. I have a few of his solo albums and they are all good. In the end he made his money with GNR and now he plays music just for fun which I can’t blame him. As always this has been a great video and I look forward to seeing the next one!

It’s slash’s rhythm and solos that brought the music to life. Sweet child of mind would have never been with out slash creating the opening tune. Axl and Izzy were already a band before slash. However, I say everyone in the original GNR were indispensable
Gilby was great at the time, he was the right fit at the right time...and probably the most sober !!! But the real talent behind grr ??? That would be Axl Izzy Slash & duff. With Axl & Izzy being the main songwriters

Gilby is from my hometown, and I have known him longer than GnR (I have known Traci Gunns longer than any of the others). But in 1996, Axl told me a long story about Gilby wanting to be a "full member" of the band (as opposed to being a "sideman) and that was not offered. He sued the band, and Axl said "every time they came close to a settlement, Gilby would fire his lawyer, hire a new one, and start the process all over again". This was also during the time when the band was being sued over the Riot caused by Axl "jumping into the audience to stop someone shooting video", when the security failed to act, and walking off stage, not to return. I don't like being in the middle of stuff like this. I have not seen Gilby since he got hit by a car while on his motorcycle and broke both legs. All these guys are good people, battling the industry and their own demons. Axl comes out as the SANE person. Rikki is still living in the past. I haven't fallen out with any of them, love them all.

Appetite For Destruction is and was Guns and Roses..anything they tried to do after that couldnt even come close to that rock and roll masterpiece..its been a life long soap opera with this band and I keep my view of them in that time era..despite each individual talent only the chemistry of those original 5 members bring out the best and worst version of themselves..unfortunately due to the politics of a band of this size and caliber the drive and hunger that we heard on Appitite was never and will never be recreated..I listen to nothing done after that record cuz thats how I want to defy and recognize who and what Guns and Rose's was..

So ... first of all, it was Izzy as the rhythm guitarist during that St. Louis show ..
Second is that Gilbys accident you speak of is very inaccurate .. he didn’t break any legs, let alone two. He broke his wrist and his arm was in a sling. Meaning no guitar.
Axl then said “f-it, let’s call Izzy” and Izzy joined temporarily for the tour in Europe.
Know your facts first.

I saw Gilby live in 1999 at the Mason Jar in Phoenix. He is a much better musician than I ever thought. Eric Singer was on drums and they all sang and played great.

Holy shit, we used to hang at Casa all the time back then, and all those guys from that era were always in there. Friend of mine was drunk one night and went up to a table with them, Tommy Lee and Pamela, and started saying all kinds of things about how hot he thought Pam was, but in Spanish. I was watching this go down from across the room, thinking... What the hell is he doing? Tommy and the rest of them had this look on their faces, like... WTF is this guy saying? lol Good times. You can't even find places like that anymore. Now everything is hipster bullshit and juice bars.
Slash does not have a nice enough sound on his own, he needs Izzy Stradlin to play the rhythm guitar.
Like I used to say whenever there's a contest between CC n Slash - CC had pedals n effects. Slash had Izzy.
I have like 5 or 6 albums Gilby put out

He was a good fit, had that sleazy swagger of swinging his Les Paul down low and Rockin’ Out.

I think Richard Fortus is just perfect for that spot in the band for the remainder of my time on this earth enjoying music.

Gilby said he went with songs and axl wasn’t keen , so he and slash went and did snakepit it was meant to be snakepit but the record company wanted slash name to sell records. So a lot of snakepit ms first was gilby

And I DID NOT know he was friends with Izzy prior to G&R...

The guy is great. You dont dislike someone because he replaced a band member who left the band ( for good reasons). Izzy wad pished off with Axl behaviour and the drinking problems of the rest of the members. Izzy and Gilby were the coolest members of the band and should have made a band together.

I don’t know him and they never really did anything after Izzy left (Spaghetti Incident doesn’t count as it was all covers), Izzy was an original member and one of the main songwriters so him leaving did have a significant impact. GNR was never the same so forgive me for being an immature teenager at the time.
Gilby is the family dollar version of Izzy.

I think I played guitar for gnr at one point, I lost track of who was in the band after a time, and lost interest in their music, axle being a bitch all the time didn’t help either.

Guns N'Roses was the first band I've ever listened to when I was around 11, I didn't know any other bands back then other than Bon Jovi. Then later I heard of Metallica and Megadeth, that's when I stopped listening to GN'R😂
