Let's be honest here 1: He hasn't practiced for over 20 years 2: He rarely if ever acutely plays whats recorded on the record 3: He feels the need to simplify the songs to fit his modern playing style, which is very unrehearsed 4: He never has to worry about being replaced considering that metallica is his band. 5: He has all the money and fame in the world so he never has to actually get better 6: He is the only drummer in the world to get progressively worse after 40 years of playing 7: Anyone of you reading this can reach his level of playing in about 4 to 6 months. Before you say it i love Lars i truly do but this is the reality of how things are, the most rudement things is completely foreign to him and it shows. No need to get mad at me im just saying what i feel and see after seeing them live over 8 times
It's not remotely "false hate". The guy's a lazy player and doesn't seem to care less any more - live he's an absolute car crash of poor timing, errors and economy of paying to simplify everything. That's not false - unless you're deluded that's obvious to anyone who's paying attention (especially to those of us who saw him in the 80s when he actually gave a shit).
Lars' drum breakdown and James' singing in One reminds me of Nike-a-go-go by the Misfits. NIKE BE GOOD! NIKE BE EVERYTHING! /I CANNOT LIVE! I CANNOT DIE! / TAKEN MY SIGHT! TAKEN MY SPEECH! Best part of the song One in my opinion it is super heavy. I know the songs dont sound the same at all, but just that part makes me think of the Misfits every time, especially a lot of Kill em all
5:35 "So as a bass player, you're like a boxer. You're kinda doging and weaving" ...... "dodging Lars from trying to unplug your bass to remove it from the mix" 😂
Very interesting for me to listen to you guys talk about the driving percussive guitar rhythms that are James's trademark. Realizing that many of, certainly the songs off Justice. Have been built and expanded off that guitar rythm, as the core of the songs. Sabbath wrote some of the best stuff this way. Geezer and Bill would play in a way that complimented Iommi's riffs. This gave them that crushing sound nobody else can duplicate. Ozzy says you guys are the torch carriers of that style. Call Tony. That fucker has whole spiral notebooks full of riffs he says. Just need those grinding riffs for a framework. Peace.
I thought it was great. To me it’s clear that the group discussion was based on the three current members who actually wrote and recorded it. Rob broke down the bass parts Jason wrote that he now plays independent from the group discussion. Not weird at all.

lyrically the song should've contiued the story of the guy trapped and somehow he breaks free. because musically the song builds up and gets super heavy and intense and then it gets in to the solos and its pretty catchy and upbeat so it would've been a good time to change the mood of the lyrics. It's a really good song but seems a bit incomplete that the lyrics didn't head in that direction to accompany where they went musically/song writing wise. /2cents
He's not butchering it, he's just not playing it verbatim. It's called improvising. If you want to hear it exactly like the record, listen to the record. They all play the song a little differently now, it's been damn near 40 years.
@@KB_Joys ah, apologies friend. Your quote is correct. I meant though specifically the live version of one. I deleted the previous as it was inaccurate so apologies. That's all I meant. I just meant how Kirk performs the solo means I tend to not listen to the live version
3:57 Rare ocasion of James singing old stuff in standard tuning
5:21 “Deconstructing one for the bass”, I laughed out loud right there
Yeah me too! Haha!
So did I
First time I've ever heard the bass line
It’s beautiful isn’t it
Anyone else getting real tired of the false Lars hate all the time? The guys pretty damn good honestly.
Lars is a terrible live performer but an excellent studio drummer dude has great ideas in creating complex and fun structures

Metal drummer here - and you’re absolutely 100% **CORRECT.**
I am. Who cares? go listen to a drum machine then. These haters just bore me.

if metallica were a football team:
james: QB
lars: kicker
kirk: wide receiver
robert: linebacker
Still one of the most perfectly composed and performed metal songs to this day…

Loved to see James singing with the guitar in E standard again, although it's just a little bit
(Like if you want them to play in E standard again)
I think Kirk’s best stuff was when Bob Rock pushed him with his solos…..like The Unforgiven

u mean Kirk right? Joe Satriani taught him guitar, he was primed as a lead guitarist early.
Silly Rob.....there's no bass in this song.
Oh yeah the bass of this album

I see the solo more as a rush of his memories going by before his final final moment, as a flash before his eyes scenario
I always felt the upbeat part was almost a mocking tone of patriotism
"shifting gears"? Does he know 99% od US Americans cannot use manuał gear box?😂

Kirk consistently butchering the one solo really puts me off the live versions of the song.

Rob’s bass tone is awful
