On today's Vlog, I take out my 2024 Cervelo S5 for its' first ride... Come along and experience new bike day with me. #cycling #roadbike #cervelo #cervelos5
S5 looks good, fast but has a harsh ride..i also felt too stretched out..i got rid of the SL7 s-works tarmac for the madone slr gen7..i find the madone very comfortable, faster than the tarmac, and holds speed easier at 20 to 25mph..i miss the up front quickness of the tarmac but once the madone gets up it holds speed and wants more and more 😂...S5 is one of the nicest looking bikes out..the S5 looks fast just standing 😅 the S5 rides similar to the older 2019 specialized Venge..strictly a race bike
My headset spacing turned out to be same as you on my 54. Use some silicone lubricant on the rubber bolt caps on stem. Slides down nice and flush. Had a similar recap of my 2023-2024 s5
I have both bikes as well, '23 S5 and the '24 SL8. You described their feeling just as I would - SL8 fast to get going, etc., and the S5 slower to get going but boy does she go go gatchet when she does! :)
I have a 2019 disc which I Iove. My experience is Cannondale Topstone Carbon gravel bike, an R3, two S3's and 2 previous S5's of the rim brake variety. I believe the 2024 is pretty identical except for wheel clearance which is only 30mm on the 2019. I found once I perfected my bike fit it's been really quite comfortable. When the fit wasn't spot on, not so much. I believe most people don't spend time really fitting a bike which has a big impact on feeling like a couch or rough ride in my experience. Yes a fast bike I think you'll love it. They can be made light - with proper part selection as the frame and fork really are not that heavy. My 54" is 15lb's (actually slightly under with pedals and Garmin). Unfortunately the factory builds are pretty weighty which limit their appeal but they can be lightened without compromise if so inclined. This makes them a good day to day and climbing bike. Bike build, 2019 Cervelo S5 disc, Roval Alpinist wheetset, Vittoria Tubeless tires, Dura Ace 11 Mechanical, FSA SL-K Light crank, Praxis rings, 50/34 with 11/30 Dura Ace Cassette, Lightweight threaded through axles, Berk seat, 38mm bars, Speedplay pedals, and Ashima 140 rotors. Ride about 12,000 km/100,000m per year.
Fantastic feedback! Thanks for sharing. I completely agree! I’m not sure if I would go with super shallow wheels unless I was climbing a lot, but I agree, it’s not a heavy bike at all.
@@MitchOnTwoWheels We have a lot of straight descents which can have nasty crosswinds where I live so deeper front wheels can be an issue over 70kph. Was on an "A" group ride just last weekend and a friend who weights 200lbs on a new Trek Madone (skilled racer rider) got into a bad speed wobble right in front of me at 75kph. I'm 140lbs and I can now be aggressive on descents with a shallower front wheel regardless of the wind. Once I stopped riding my Roval 50 replaced with my Roval Alpinist it transformed the bike, it climbs, accelerates and feels much more responsive. On the flat's with narrow bar's, aero clothes and good position don't even notice the shallow wheels as often part of a group. When in Florida where it's flat and wind is not really an issue I wear my deeper wheels for the little advantage the give me.
Maybe I will also say that I've ridden deep wheels for years but putting lighter shallower wheels on an aero bike really liberates it. Aero bikes in my opinion are unfortunately hamstrung in feel and performance by the very deep wheels bike manufacturers select for their aero bikes. They are selling the "look". These overly deep wheels sort of define and marginalize many aero offerings I believe.
@@garypoyntz6948 Oh interesting point of view... I have a set of Alpinist on my Aethos currently, maybe I'll throw them on the S5 for a few rides and see if they change things up later in the season... might be a fun test!
I came from a Tarmac SL7, and i definitely agree with what you said having the S5 hold its speed better than the sl7/8. Love my s5! Welcome to the dentists club
Love the S5! It’s such a great looking Bike, 🥹 have you considered changing the gears up? The 48/35 is such a small gear for an AeroBike, IMO. Lots of folks talk about the 10T cog on the cassette and from my experience I was impressed, 🤷🏽♂️ #RobbArmstrong
Here's the REAL TRUTH about the 2024 Cervelo S5...I have the Dura Ace version and if I lived in South Florida as an example, the bike would be great. The reality is, I live in Southern California and in the area(s) I ride, our streets are beat up. We have potholes, open seams, road snakes (where the asphalt is being pushed up like a large diameter hose under the surface), bad road repairs and in general just old, neglected streets. That being said, you feel every bump, crack, hole, and surface imperfection on this bike. The short rear triangle makes for a stiff and highly efficient pedaling platform, but in turn it's the HARSHEST ride I've ever experience in a road bike. Again, if i lived in an area where our roads and streets were nice and smooth, I'd ride this bike all day long. But if your streets are beat up or even slightly beat up, look at something else to drop $13K on.
I noticed you are rocking the newer Assos Equipe RS Spring/Fall jacket. Did you consider the GTS spring/fall jacket and did you have to size up on the Equipe RS.
I’ve really liked the Equipe sizing…. It’s tighter fitting and painted on. Haven’t looked too much at the Mille GT jacket, as I have a pair of these ones already.
Beauty bike. I’m feeling you on the cold start to the season here in NL.
We keep bouncing between summer and fall temps 😂
@@MitchOnTwoWheels Haha I cant stomach calling these summer temps!!! maybe spring temps ;)

Agreed 100%
I've had an S5 since 2015 - there's no going back :)
Love it!

Yes! Absolutely agreed. They aren’t even comparable at speed.
Oh great video. I dream of this bike I find yours really very beautiful
You and me both!

Welcome to the dentists club
That’s awesome to hear I’m not going crazy then! This bike is FAST. I’m excited to get to know it this year.
Dentists Club...because it rattles your teeth out? :)
@@joea7339 What? Wouldn't a Dentist avoid rattling their teeth?
that thing is sweet, my favorite
Thanks man!

Thought about it…. Give me a few months of trial and error to see what my local roads seem to like.
I have a Madone and wonder how does this compare to that!
I would assume pretty close given they’re both Aero first, weight second.
i might be biased cuz im a team visma fan but goddamn the S5 is just such a sexy bike!
(congrats on the dentist license btw)
They are super awesome! My teeth are on consignment at the shop 😂

Yep, the GTS (same size) version has a bit more room and is less breathable…much more wind/water resistant fabric. I have to size up on the RS…
Damn now I want an S5 😅
Awesome!
Wow what is that handlebar drop ? 20 cm?
No idea. It’s surprisingly comfy for my long arms.
How do you like them Reserve wheels
So far so good… the fact that I don’t notice them is a good thing.
Why did you sell your SL8? Was planning on getting one.
Wanted to try a true Aero bike for the roads around me, it’s faster. (Less climbing)
@@MitchOnTwoWheels wa the sl8 that bad?
@@mikeursal6157 not at all. It’s a great bike.
3:40 Those rubber things should be flush with the stem.
Yup. Need to lube em on the bolt heads lol
Sorry if I missed but what size is this?
58cm
@@MitchOnTwoWheels Thank you. I am 6-3 and I wonder if I can fit on this size. My bb to saddle is 84cm. Do you think the seatpost goes high enough?
@tekesbur try and find one and find out. I’m also tall, and I’m on the cusp of it too
Great review. But you have way to much disposable income. only jealous.
I really don’t… just 20 years of changing bikes lol.
How tall are you?
6-2 and a bit.
this and the madone are the 2 most ugly bikes currently!
What value does your opinion/ comment add to the discussion regarding this video?
Cool.
