What I would like to add is that Sony's firmware update of WF-1000XM4 busted one of the earbuds and ended up ruining the buds for thousands around the world. Sony refused to accept responsibility and made a lot of people angry, me including so Technics it is as far as I am concerned. It is just appalling the way Sony treats its customers so to me it's game over as far as Sony is concerned.
I own both devices, as well as an AirPods Pro 2 and Galaxy Buds2 Pro. For sound quality, it is a clear win for the Technics AZ80. The sound stage and instrument separation are really second to none here.
What can you say about the volume of the AZ80? I'm using a Liberty 3 Pro right now and would be interested to know what I can expect in comparison. Is it true that it is quieter when using LDAC codec?
But I have owned the XM4s and Linkbuds S earbuds before, the sound on the sony earbuds is CLEAN, is a good enough sound for any consumer plus the load of features from the app, I just can't say the same for the over ear line up, is great but the earbuds win here.
"you got to give the people what they want!", and you sir have certainly done that with this comparison between two heavyweights. Great work. In my opinion, these two should only be compared to others within their price point, i.e, the Denons, B & O, Bowers AND Wlkins etc.. I jumped on the XM5's, and am very satisfied thus far, but still strongly considering getting the AZ80's as well. However, If I do that the wifey may send me to earbud rehab.

My next ones I want to get are the Apple AirPod Max’s and these Technics AZ80’s. At some point I’d also love to get a pair of B&O’s and Bowers and Wilkins as well but that will be much further down the line because even though it may not seem like it, I’m a broke veteran both literally and financially. I live on a fixed and rather LOW/SMALL INCOME as a nearly 40 year old fully disabled (in VA ratings terms) Combat Veteran. for pure sound quality the Technics are unrivaled in that price category, the sound range is just unmatched, although the notice cancellation isn't as good as others
Agreed. But the sound quality, stage span plus ANC in the TAZ80 together are perfectly adequate. In my opinion, the sound quality is compensated by the not super perfect ACN. Therefore, the ACN in the TAZ80 is completely sufficient for me.

5:37 I have read and listened to many reviews about Technics AZ80 thus far but for the first time seing a comment on this feature, namely "automatically block wind noise in transparency mode". It makes sense especially when you are moving (cycling or walking in a windy environment), if I did not get it wrong, it sounds like ANC combined with transparency. Great! Thank you for pointing out that really useful feature.
This was a great review for me. I bought a set of the XM5s a couple of months ago and gave them away to a friend the other day. I really appreciated the sound - when I could actually get them to seat into my ear properly. I found that they kept coming loose, something that the XM4s never did. The other issue I had with them was trying to handle them while in my ears without hitting the control points. I don't have massive fingers, but big enough that the smooth shape wouldn't allow me to get a decent hold of them without inadvertently tapping the controls. I have a feeling that the AZ80s may be the replacement for Hi-Def music that I've been looking for. Thanks for the review.
I was interested in the AZ80 but waited for the XM5s a few months for them to be released. When reviews came out, it was easy for me to settle on the AZ80 as they have superior sound, and when paired to a Pixel 7 Pro LDAC. Great review, thank you. I own both as well, and I find myself going for the Technics almost every time. They sound better, and are much more comfortable in my smaller ears. Sony are good, but Technics just ruined other earbuds for me. They're the first earbuds that are close to perfect for every day listening. Mics for calls are also amazing...better than Sony, in my opinion.
I honestly dont know if my WF5s are buggy or everyone means something else when they talk about good ANC, for me the galaxy buds 2 pro block out sound alot better, for instance on trains I cant hear the train moving at all with the buds 2 pro. So by good ANC do you mean something other than how much noise it blocks?
Excellent video as usual. I have abnormally small child sizes ears and found the xm5's too uncomfortable. The were also very slippery and difficult to get out of the charging case. I tried every size eartips and couldn't get a good seal so ANC wasn't great and they kept coming loose when I walked. Yesterday I got the AZ80 and they are amazing. So comfortable and sound is excellent. ANC is really good too. Thanks @CEONTHEMAKING

@@tonyr1596 Hi Tony! Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have another TWS that you can compare the volume to? On the street (!) what percentage do you usually listen at? Oh, yes! One more important question: do you do any sports? For example, when running, how stable do the earphones stay in place?
Between the AZ80 and XM5: which go deeper in the ear canal? I've had the XM4s and I've developed earwax plugs because of them. I would use them a lot and the continuous pushing and twisting did the wax problem. So I'm looking forward to something that wouldn't go deep in the ear canal. I've tried the AirPods 1st gen and they are comfy and don't go deep in the ear but I need something with good music quality.
Hello. Please give me some direction. I want to know which headphones are better in terms of music, bass, quality. I will use them mainly for this. I'm torn between the Sony hm5 and the Bowers & Wilkins pi7. Please, if you have other suggestions, write them.
I bought the sonys first but while golfing they fell out non stop. I used the ear piece fitting and it called for medium, so that's all I used. Got frustrated and returned and bought AZ80. Their fit put me in XL and they stay in ear great. But I really preferred sony sound, Maybe because of the outstanding noise cancelation. Should I go back to sony and use lg ear tips? Can anyone relate?
I am wondering if anyone has both the Technics AZ80s AND the Pixel Buds Pro. Are the Technics more comfortable to wear than the Pixel buds as I find the Pixel buds (my first and only pair of wireless ANC buds so far) only somewhat comfortable. Seeing that many retailers don't allow returns on earbuds (tried Amazon but their delivery date is early January), this aspect of comfort needs to be resolved prior to purchase.
Thanks for the review. I had the xm5s and hated the controls and noise cancelling when on my bike. Then I lost them and now considering the technics. Can someone who wears them in bed give me some feedback? Are they comfortable to sleep against?
Can you use 1 ear bud at a time or do you have to use both? I work in a lab setting and have to be able to hear coworkers and managers so i like to have 1 earbud and 1 free ear
Love your videos. I have very small ears too and these videos have been a huge help in finding some earbuds that actually feel good in my ears for more than a few minutes.
The more I use the XM5 the more I don't think they are the best ANC earbud. Maybe you just need more than one or find the one that fills your personal needs the most but there isn't one earbud that tops all the categories. And another thing with the XM5 they don't offer an extra large tip where BOSE QCII offers an alternate size kit. And if you don't have fit you don't have any of the features. Thanks for sharing!
What can you say about the volume of the AZ80? I'm using a Liberty 3 Pro right now and would be interested to know what I can expect in comparison. Is it true that it is quieter when using LDAC codec?
@christianGarcia-lb1sz in my opinion, the Technics are my favorite, they stay at home. The Sony's are the more comfortable bud, so I were them to work. It's all personal preference though. The AZ80's have a deeper bass response and the XM5's have more treble. But they are equal in sound detail, once you get a good eartip. I when aftermarket on both.
A great video Sir. Happy holidays to you and your family. I purchased the Sony XM5s 5 Months ago and I'm very pleased with their everyday performance. I was using the Galaxy busds 2 Pros and the Bose QCs the Sony XM5s are better.
Good data and insight on both of these options. Thanks as always on a great review. I have both of these also. Both are solid choices for the reasons you outlined. I find the noise cancelling on the Sony headphones more practically useful as well. But I use these predominantly for calls. Both work really well and both get good marks when I ask others I'm talking with how they sound. For longer calls, the Technics seem to be more comfortable in my ears, which are a tad on the large size probably, but also another subjective quality that YMMV on. For music, I find the Sony's sound to be a bit more "dynamic" (whatever that means) but I actually prefer the pair of B&O Beoplay EX earbuds I have for actually listening to music. I spend most of my workday on calls each day and, having gone through multiple full earbud and case charge cycles on both, it's hard to imagine anyone "hating" either of these options. I also don't think I'm going to return either of them myself.
I'm getting the wf xm4 for around $92 vs xm5 for $200... Should I still go with the xm5?? Is it that good? Pls advice Also, my phone supports only BT5.2 and not planning to upgrade for another 2 years. Do sony give updates for xm4 since xm5 is now released?
Go for the XM4s you can buy 3 pair (open box) for the price of XM5s and the XM5 are worse noise canceling & not as comfortable. I’d have my XM4s for over a year. They fell off the subway platform…bought the XM5s & I’m returning them after 2 days of use. They aren’t worth it at all.
Sorry for the off topic. Would it be better to take the new Sony Earbuds or the One Plus Buds 2? only care about the sound and battery life. currently have the liberty 3 pro soundcore
Does anyone know how I put my new pair of Sony WF-1000XM5 in pairing mode? I used to hold both sensors for around 5 seconds on my WF-1000XM4, but this does not work on my XM5s.
Earbuds are different for everyone’s needs. I’ve noticed that a lot. I work in a loud warehouse and I need EPIC ANC. I have AirPod Pro 2 gen, Bose QCii, Bose QC Ultra, and just picked up the Technics AZ80 - the Technics sound good but they are my least favorite ( as far as ANC ) I think the Bose Ultra are far better in the ANC dept and they sound great also. Now the Bose does have issues with dropping out, cutting out etc - for me the AirPod Pro 2nd gen have been pretty much flawless ( I just wish the ANC was a tad better, and you could adjust bass, treble etc like you can with others ) the AirPods just work all the time without error ( at least mine have ) I wanted to love the AZ80. I thought before I purchased these are going to be the ones I use for everything. I will continue switching between Bose Ultra and the AP Pro 2nd gen for now
Great Vid! Which of these two have better volume levels? I HATE how the xM4s that a volume ceiling when turing up to as loud as they can go. Is that still present in the XM5s? How are the Technics?
2:04 the fit is not be the problem, the most uncomfortable buds can still have very good fit. You need to talk about the feel. After you've worn them for 30min/ 1 hour plus.
what about the price tag? Is it worth it? I just got my airpods pro 2, and they sound great. But they don’t fit me… the airpods are like €250, and the AZ80’s are €300. Is it worth the upgrade? Or do you have better options
@@yusuff7_This might be too late lol since it's 10 months later but I upgraded to AZ80 from APP2 days ago, and the extra money was totally worth it imo. Close noise cancelation performance if not on the same level, sound quality is superb for a TWS. I was literally in shock by how clear and detailed it is, bass is really good also, not excessive to my taste, I'd say it's suitable for both instrumental music and pop songs.
I've got both and liked more the Az80... Then I pulled the trigger on the Denon Perl Pro, sent both the Sony and the Technics back! , the Denon competes even with some of my wired ones driven with the Btr5 and the Btr7 (Kato, S12, Dusk, IE200) the only one close to it is the Dusk. Confortable and sound dreamy, I'll never go back.
Then you oughta try Between 3ANC! Tried the one you mentioned except Denon (but was considering however RUclipsr Ron suggested to stay put with 3ANC). I really love technics A800 headphones and Z80 however Z80 volume can’t match 3ANC darned…. With great regrets I’ll return AZ80 and keep enjoying 3ANC
@@reklovjj I wanted to try the status but here where I live they are not available and I was conserned about the form factor, it was a war (in my head) between the Denon, the Devialet, the Technics and the Status, glad I heard the Denons, now I can say that I will stop buying TWS for a while! They play anything I throw at them, the only music genre that makes them difficult is the Salsa, but it's not because of the capabilities of the set (I believe) but a limit of the dsp firmware which tends to get "confused" by the cimbals and upper percussion on very busy passage which I believe can be corrected with a firmware update, I have the Xm4 (broken battery after the last firmware update) Galaxy buds pro (1&2) oneplus buds 2 pro and a few others and I have spent way too much money searching for best sound or a least that sounds close or better than the Kato, the IE200, the S12 or the Hexa (also had the variations) the Denons beat all of them IMHO.
@@reklovjj by the way the Denon has a very good volume on normal mode but it has a setting that can be set to high gain, I've tried and it becomes crazy loud, it is already loud on normal mode and listening to it is like having a big sound system in front of me, the sound doesn't come from inside my head like the other sets I have except for the Dusk.
Good for you on branching out. Hope your business goes well. My son has a review channel and has done well. He is more on the comedy side of things. It’s called Dope or Nope. He has about 7m subs
I find the noise cancelation in the xm5s to be pretty bad. Much worse than the xm4s noise canceling. I couldnt even tell sometimes between ANC and OFF. Ambient sound was great though.
I got the 1000mx5s today I'm kinda of disappointed the fits similar to the 4s they look so silly i got these Big white balls coming out of my head...not sure if I'll keep them 😢
I used to have both predecessors. Sony's battery got degraded within 6 months. The fit was awful, and the controls were poor (Linkbuds S did not improve it). AZ60 still work really well for me - the isolation and ANC aren't so good - but I never get ANY trouble with how they work or connect. Impeccable. Also own a Bose QC2 - and they are good in many ways but the Bluetooth connectivity is a disaster. Would buy Technics no questions asked.
Hey, I've owned the XM4, Bose QC Ultra and now the AZ80. Agree with you on all those points. For fit, i had to mix and match with softer narrower IEM eartips just to get it to fit right. And it's sad that even until today, Sony's TWS battery issues are still not fixed. Having that said, i would rather pick something more reliable and got myself the AZ80.
Hey, thanks for the comparison/review. I owned the xm4 and they were great unfortunately earlier this year they released a new firmware and bricked them. The battery life on one wss draining more than the other. It's a big issue, I was wondering if the xm5 suffer from that. If anyone is aware of it

I just got the xm5's and I hate them, there's an extremely annoying tone every time a tap is made on the earbuds & there's no way to disable it in the app. This is a deal breaker for me, I'm returning them.
@CEONTHEMAKING absolutely 💯. To be honest I'm leaning towards buying the Sonys but after my rather bad experience with the wf1000xm4 where the left earbud battery dies under 45mins after only 6 months of use I'm sceptical about trusting their product to last as it should for a $300 product
Just got my AZ80 and yes terrific sound quality which compare to the big brother A800 headphones! Now why would the AZ80 volume needs to be push 15-20% higher than 3ANC? btw same songs, EQ settings, etc… darned
Ooof ! Everyone is praising the AZ80. I Sold my xm4 fuel to their awfull fit and the sound just doesn't fit Rock and metal at all. Now I search for the right buds. But here ist the Problem: I've seen some comments that the volume and the sound of guitars is not so good on the AZ80. Does someone can confirm this ?
Hi I have the same situation currently, the comments i heard on the AZ80s on DRHMEs channel about the overdrive on guitars made me second guess choosing those buds, although many users commented that u can change this with some tweaking in eq. I think im gonna take a bet and go for the technics if you are intrested i can give you my opinion once i have tried them out. Cheers
@alexmitsch8978 I was first ! I bought them and guess what ? They fit so insanely good to metal. Excpecialy melo and blackmetal, their instrumental separation is first class. I used the buds 2 pro and overear xm4 for comparison and those AZ just hits so freaking good. Only problem is their weight, the fit is really good in ear but personally I just don't like to feel any earbuds in my ears at all, that's why I will stay with the buds2pro since they are so absurdly small and lightweight. But for sound yeah, the AZ is truly the rolls Royce of TWS.
I have both as well. The az80 have clean sound but seems a bit sterile. Something is missing. I have really enjoyed the 05’s and they have a more enjoyable sound to me.
The XM5s did better than I thought they would. Being able to actually get a good comfortable fit is so important. Thank you for this episode this was the one I wanted more than anything else. Tough choice indeed. 💯👍🙂🇺🇸

@@elmarflat728 volume is good, didn't notice any difference between AAC,SBC or LDAC
@@elmarflat728 earbuds are very stable and secure with little to no movements. I'd say they are as loud as the OnePlus buds pro 2
Can you change the volume on the AZ80 with touch&hold? thx in advance 🙂
What about working out with them have you tried them running ? Do they stick well to your ear ? Would you recommend them for a fitness lifestyle ?
Good review. 4 taps for volume adjustment is a dealbreaker. What were they thinking of.
Exactly. You look like a lunatic while endlessly tapping your ears
How do the AZ80s do with distorted electric guitars? I've heard they struggle with rock and metal
Very true. Got find what works for you at the end of the day.

I own all 3 Technics Earbuds. I just their sound signature, it's perfect for me. My Sony wh-1000xm5 should be arriving today.
Should have gotten the Technics EAH-800-Ks for the Technics collection!
and which one is better.xm5 or az80?
@christianGarcia-lb1sz in my opinion, the Technics are my favorite, they stay at home. The Sony's are the more comfortable bud, so I were them to work. It's all personal preference though. The AZ80's have a deeper bass response and the XM5's have more treble. But they are equal in sound detail, once you get a good eartip. I when aftermarket on both.
Awesome video! Nice transitions between your scenes, almost like a tip of the hat to Jim's review room
Thank you!
Thanks! Would love to hear your thoughts on the audio-technica twx9 and how they compare!
A great video Sir. Happy holidays to you and your family. I purchased the Sony XM5s 5 Months ago and I'm very pleased with their everyday performance. I was using the Galaxy busds 2 Pros and the Bose QCs the Sony XM5s are better.
The Technics AZ80 has a better sharp cleaner sound, I enjoyed it more than the Sony!!
Great perspective!
I recently bought the CMF buds pro 2. Any one knows how they compared to these?
I'm getting the wf xm4 for around $92 vs xm5 for $200... Should I still go with the xm5?? Is it that good? Pls advice
Also, my phone supports only BT5.2 and not planning to upgrade for another 2 years.
Might be easiest to use the BT pairing button on the case. Open the lid and press the button on the case for a few seconds (near the usb-c connector)
@@scottgarfinkle8395 thank you so much!
I will continue switching between Bose Ultra and the AP Pro 2nd gen for now
Do these earbuds AZ80 have lower max volume compared to other earbuds which could be a problem?
@@rdutta5368 yes they are lowest buds I've had
Great Vid! Which of these two have better volume levels? I HATE how the xM4s that a volume ceiling when turing up to as loud as they can go. Is that still present in the XM5s? How are the Technics?
Is the Sony's a true single bud use? Like taking a voice call using the left bud only.
Always top notch information. Thanks again.
No problem!
Needed a new review to listen to while walking. Thanks for this one man

@CEONTHEMAKING my guy is his own sponsor... That was 🔥🔥🔥.
2:04 the fit is not be the problem, the most uncomfortable buds can still have very good fit. You need to talk about the feel. After you've worn them for 30min/ 1 hour plus.
Az80 are a better overall product .I have both. xm5 is only better for noise cancellation
what about the price tag?
@@killaforma looks like Gemini 2 answers all this but again super pricey! Not sure their worth an additional $250 versus 3ANC
Hello, I don't know which one to choose: Technics AZ80 or Sennheiser IE200 (wired). What do you think? What about the bass in SenIE200?
Good for you on branching out. Hope your business goes well. My son has a review channel and has done well. He is more on the comedy side of things. It’s called Dope or Nope. He has about 7m subs

Hy sir ,which 🎉 earpods has better bass ?
Between these two. Id say AZ80
Thank you for another great one! 👍

Sony had issues with battery drain on both XM3 and XM4. Would not trust them for the XM5...
I find the noise cancelation in the xm5s to be pretty bad. Much worse than the xm4s noise canceling. I couldnt even tell sometimes between ANC and OFF. Ambient sound was great though.
Wheres the course link bro, im in.
Do a comparison with the Denon PerL Pro.
Which one is less boomy . I dont like base like bose or beats thats over done . I like a wide stage . Great video
I think they're both great with a little EQ adjusting..but I'd give the AZ80 a go for sound stage
In the latest update for the Technics the AnC it’s superior to Sony’s and transparency it’s only superior on AirPods Pro 2
I got the 1000mx5s today I'm kinda of disappointed the fits similar to the 4s they look so silly i got these Big white balls coming out of my head...not sure if I'll keep them 😢
You seem to have the same issue with me which is the reason I decide to go for az80
Awesome comparison video. Top tier list
great review, thank you
I used to have both predecessors.
I've heard many complain of battery issues on the XM4.
The AZ70 is the predecessor to the AZ80. The AZ70s have incredible bass. The sub bass is smooth. I can’t wait to get both of these.
@@CEONTHEMAKING so why you dont talk about in reviews? Sony support you?
Hey, thanks for the comparison/review. I owned the xm4 and they were great unfortunately earlier this year they released a new firmware and bricked them. The battery life on one wss draining more than the other. It's a big issue, I was wondering if the xm5 suffer from that. If anyone is aware of it
So far no. Probably too early to tell
Nice one C, will be picking up the xm5 as soon as they launch in my area
Nice 👍

I just got the xm5's and I hate them, there's an extremely annoying tone every time a tap is made on the earbuds & there's no way to disable it in the app. This is a deal breaker for me, I'm returning them.
I think I would pick the Sony only for the smaller size and better noise cancelling. You really can't go wrong with either one. Good comparison.👍
what about the wind noise can the sony wm5 cancel the wind noise?

Definitely! I switch it up from time to time. But the backbone of the channel has been audio products for a while. So that's mainly what I focus on.
YEEEEES! The ultimate review. This will decide which one I’ll get
Thank you for covering microphones.
I hear the XM5's have the same battery drain issues as the XM4's. For that reason, I'll check out those Technics instead.
THANK YOU 🙏🏾
Yessir. Hope it's helpful.
Hi are these headphones loud enough or do they sound too low thanx
Amazing!
I have both as well. The az80 have clean sound but seems a bit sterile. Something is missing. I have really enjoyed the 05’s and they have a more enjoyable sound to me.
I always refer to CEON because I also have small ears like him
The XM5s did better than I thought they would. Being able to actually get a good comfortable fit is so important. Thank you for this episode this was the one I wanted more than anything else. Tough choice indeed. 💯👍🙂🇺🇸
Tough for sure!
