BRING IT BACK TO THE STREETS // LYRICS
When there was a sickness, there was a cure
Right outside on the streets at the record store
There once were heroes that we looked up to
We never thought that we would do the things that they'd do
Their presence is long gone
Disconnected from the world that we grew up on
Nothing will ever make as much of an impact
When you hear these words will they make you react
When there was a sickness, there was a cure
Right outside on the streets at the record store
There once were heroes that we looked up to
We never thought that we would do the things that they'd do
'Cause if this world is all about digital lives
I can say that I'm ready to die
One time, when you need to be saved
With a kick and a push you can get away
One time, when you need to be saved
You can go and get lost in a mixtape
'Cause if this world is all about digital lives
I can say that I'm ready to die
Since we can't live in yesterday
Say goodbye to the past as the world turns grey
Since we can't live in yesterday
We can look to the future but it's all the same
This generation has gone up in flames
Because with all hope gone there is no cause for a change
We know it's inside us all and the world has made it harder
To latch onto the sound of being set free
Disconnected from the world that we grew up on
Bring it back to the streets

We needed this band. Whether you agree or not. I dont care. No gimmicks. No bullshit. Keepin' it real.
Stray From The Path stood out at Warped Tour this year. They brought the pain! New fan here!
They were at Warped this year? I heard nothing about them! I would have gone for The Black Dahlia Murder and Stray From the Path... and that's it.
Back when this came out I never realized that this song was truly visionary. It had the punk rock spirit of getting physical media for music but also tackled people being terminally online. It had a great message that still rings true because in a sea of influencers, streaming and content creators... those cds, tapes and vinyl will stand the test of time... but living on the internet (like most today do) takes away the joy of those things and the more simple aspects of life. Not only that, if you think about companies like Spotify that are now taking from artists and people typically only mass consume music on platforms like that, I think they had a point with the mass consumption thing of pirating music, that it was going to cause problems down the road, which it did... these greedy companies saw people wanted that affordably but whether pirated or subscribed to spotify premium or the like, the artist still gets fucked.
The lyrics/message of this song are so important and vital to the world of music, I can't believe this has never been done before! Nothing connects people and attaches itself to people's emotions more than music and when you earn money, go out, choose a record and listen to it, you make a connection and you change your life in some way through that record. That is artistic integrity and it is why music is vital to us all.
A rare band that won't change due the major changes of music industry. you guys are fucking awesome, not only great musiciens, you clearly deserve your name to be remembered! and again, THANK YOU for doing such great music. it's pretty hard these days to find such amazing bands
There's a difference between wanting to make music for purpose of getting money and wanting to make money doing what you love, therefor keeping your bills paid and stomach full WHILE you are making music. Aaaand I'm totally seeing Stray here in Nashville in January. SftP, see you there!
thank you so much red! appreciate the support.
I wish we could go back to those days. When people appreciated music.
This is the reason that kept me awake all night
guys its not so much about money either way, its about the dedication to music as something youd have to commit to in terms of time and money. not just a few clicks and an ipod sync
Awesome . . I can understand what he is saying . . always a good thing.
COMEBACK KID + STRAY FROM THE PATH = BLEGGHHHH!!!!!!!
Lets play a game called "how many times will sftp be compared to ratm before i hit someone"
Is this because of their "Vietnow" cover? They did a great job. It was on the Punk Goes 90's album. Check it out
William Hamill will do!
oh man i'd play anything with you
They're undeniably influenced by them. I wouldn't be upset by that though. That's not exactly the worst band to be compared to.
+Audrey Jarvie They do sound a little bit simliar to them I won't lie, that was still funny though
Kids saved money for cars back when I was in highschool (or their rich ass parents bought them a sports car and they eventually wrecked them of course)... I spent mine every tuesday on the new album I had been waiting for. I feel exactly what Stray is saying in this song/video. I take advantage of modern technology and hear songs/albums before they come out, but I'm loyal to bands and music itself to go and purchase what I like. I want to give money and support to the bands I like.
thats for sure mates In the scene in Japan there are people that advocate strongly for getting connected with the music you like its not too many right now but its getting more popular the idea so I'm well glad there's another voice in the states for it. As your title quite rightly says bring it back to the streets!!!
the real point of the song is that buying records has more of a special and sentimental value and that its a pity that people these days miss out on that. They're not trying to say "if you download our music you're a dick" because the lyrics weren't written by lars ulrich
I bought this cd. CD sales help them determine what kind of tours they can go on, the more cd sales the first week the better tour opportunities.
Just saw these guys live. As soon as the lights came on, the front-man sprinted and dove into the crowd. Scared the hell out of me, but damn was it cool.
Don't worry, I love the album. There ya go, 1 fan.
these guys give me faith in music. i saw them when they toured with letlive. and underoath. i had no idea who they were. i can gladly say they are one of my favorite bands now.
Fact: Piracy wont end until the internet does. Look at Loui C.K.'s last album, sold it for 5 bucks, and produced it in the most hack friendly manner, based on the honor system. made over 1.5 mil in the first week. If your art is good, people will naturally flock to it. That's why we get into music, we do it cause we love it, and if people enjoy it, thats just a bonus.
Angry and aggressive, but in the best way possible. These guys got some real fire in them.
@Strayfromthepath I saw you guys in SLC, UT with Despised Icon 2 years and and one day ago without ever listening to you guys before, and as I was walking out, I saw Drew selling $5 copies of MYOH. I went and bought a copy, shook his hand and thanked him for playing a great set. From that moment, I was hooked. Thank you Stray From The Path for restoring my faith in music
This band puts out one of the best messages I've seen, such a breath of fresh air to metal since Make Your Own History.
they have a good mix of Every time I die and some good metal.
This way well be the best thing I've ever seen.
The thing is. If I hadn't downloaded a lot of the bands that I have CD's and merch of now.
I've discovered so many amazing bands through downloads and as a result I've spent loads of money on them buying their music and seeing them live.
Torrenting has some pluses
This is a band that every one should worship, most amazing shit ever.
I support this band to the maxx
These guys are one of those more "Original-sounding bands"
I remember going to grey whale and picking up CDs they day they came out. Putting that cd in my car and driving around just so I could listen to it. I get a lot more attached to the music, because I actually own the CD. This song is awesome and so is the band.
music scene 10 years ago > music scene today
Back when Beloved, Figure Four, Norma Jean, Buried Alive were around, there was no social media, music was so pure back then. Now times have changed. Many bands are doing it for the wrong reasons. Stray is one of the few bands who do it for the right reasons.
If you want this album (which you do), then buy the CD from Stray at a live show. That's pretty much the only way.
Best album this band did. So good.
glad i found this band. needed a reason to stay a fan of this type of music...
To be honest the band actually gets more of a % from that merch than they would from the music sales. They would be happy you're enjoying it either way.
HELL TO THE YEAH! NYC REPRESENT.
Great music great city
its simple. bring it back to the streets. The internet is not the streets.
exactly. and bands don't ever get money off you buying their music, most of that money goes towards the industry.
Totally digging Comeback Kid on this track.
Adding to that, you actually are supporting the band when you buy an album. They might not be making money off of it, but they're producing numbers. And those numbers are what labels, venues, promoters, etc look at.
He's what I would call "kicking ass" haha
As much as I like this band, i can't take this message seriously. It's just the way music is going. I don't think it's realistic to expect CDs or physical albums to make a comeback. I support bands I like by buying their music, but people are creative enough to find new mediums to distribute and make new kinds of music.
So true.
Yes.
I personally found Stray From The Path because they were a support act at a gig I went to, but in fairness I've found some of my favourite bands by downloading a few tracks, and if I really like it, I'll buy a hard copy of the album, if not, I won't. Having said that, I don't believe that tracks should be as expensive as they are on the likes of iTunes, considering it costs them nothing to distribute, maybe 10p (20 cents) each or something, £1($2) an album.
I wouldn't care if people bought my CD or not... as long as they come to a live show, i'd still love 'em.
I can't afford to buy your album right now, and I'll be right here on RUclips listening to it until I've got the money for it because I appreciate what you guys do and would never take away from your hard work by stealing from you.
yep!
cant wait to see them with counterparts c:
the morality of this song is fantastic. technology has gone completely out of control far way too much has been taken for granted
thank you for your support!
it's not just record sales that determine touring regions; that wouldn't make any sense because, now, you can download, legally or illegally, an album.
Sumerian Records is the only label that exclusively has awesome bands.
I think I'm gonna download this song.
so true
Saw these guys a few weeks ago with oh, sleeper, norma jean and memphis may fire, most intense live band i have EVER seen.
This band is so sick!
Thats a good point but remember, sales on all of their products gets them to their next show. CD's and Downloadable music off the web is one of their main way to gain profit/revenue. Thats the money they get for recording/traveling.
I love this band.
Greatest contemporary hardcore band to assault my ears.
Saw these yesterday with Architects and Sam Carter joined in with the singing!
@Strayfromthepath HOLY SHIT!! Stray from the path replied to my comment :D This is the most exciting thing that has happened to me all year! I love you guys!
i saw them last night in london ontario at the music hall and it was THE BEST SHOW IVE EVER BEEN TOO. people were actually moshing hard and it was fucking sick
CD's are where its at!!!
finally someone who got it...
i make it my soul mission that when music is being released i will only listen to the official video songs and nothing else until i actually get the album in my hand.
i will always buy physical copies it's far more exciting.
you know shit is real when you bring in two vocals.
Drums are sick!
Sick video and sick band. So gutted they can't make it over to the UK with Norma Jean. 'Rising Sun' is a masterpiece!
STRAY!!!!
funny thing about this is that i buy music on itunes and like 2months later i buy it on a music store. i know that im spending more money but thats how things goes here in brazil. cds come much more later than in other countrys. BUT one thing i always do with my friends is listen to the cd in the car as soon as i buy them
From Argentina, just... amazing.
Step 1: Look up Hot Problems by Double Take
Step 2: Listen and watch
Step 3: Come back to this video and blast it as loud as you can.
Step 4: Smile because there's still good music out there :)
Thanks for the reply, I didn't really think of it in the way of the amount of work that goes in to a record, I'm a broke student at the minute, but do buy CD's when I get the money, and have a small, but nice collection, from bands that I really like, I also usually spend money at the merch stand, and love going to see gigs, and as I understand that's where you guys make the highest percentage of the money spent. I like having a CD for my car, or to show friends, and share with them.
Even though im a Christian, I cant help but like their tunes, Im not so much for the "God cant save you nows" and such other lyrics ive heard but to each his own, still passionate music! Keep It up! I guess if mattie (For Today) are friends with them and let Strays vocalist on their album they gotta be some cool dudes. :D
@Strayfromthepath Now I can see where you guys are coming from. And I agree with you there. There is definitely a huge disconnect between the fans and the music, people don't seem to take the time and lose themselves in an album. It's great to see you guys taking the time to connect with your fans here as well!
I'm not sure I can agree with their message here. I believe in supporting artist, but what's a better way to support them, by buying a cd that will give a small royalty after the label takes their share, or by going to their show, buying their t-shirt (which they make more money on) and wearing it around town? I wouldn't know and see most of the bands I listen to if it weren't for the internet.
you need to see these guys live...they are in another league!!!
I think this song is badass
i don't know how i feel about this honestly
i agree with you, and your not the only ones suffering too! just look at the video game industry, they have it pretty rough, have u seen recent dvd sales too?internet will always be around. and pirating isint going anywhere. people love music, just at faster paces now a days. i dont believe its taken for granted, there were many kids at my school who would go to shows almost ever weekend, they were very dedicated. things change my man. you guys are a great band and good luck on your adventures
This band is awesome.
SO SICK
@Strayfromthepath seriously going out to buy the album after seeing watching this video... You guys have a point. getting a new record was like xmas morning to me, rising sun is the first album im excited to buy in a long long time
hope to be there soon, thank you!
When i love a band, and i want to see them put out a new record, i buy their merch, i buy their albums, and i buy tickets to see them. We should all be like this, but piracy just helps exposure, period. The music industry has completely flipped 180 degree's. This is the new market, so get used to it. Good band though, great music, great song.
I'm in love
Stray 'till death.
AMAZING!!!
It kinda does, but I really dont have the energy to argue about it now.
Dont they know that record labels take like 90% of the money spend on a cd. if you want to support their band, go to their shows, buy their merch. downloading music dosn't harm the band whatsoever, just the record label
thank you!!
AWESOME
This should have over a million views. This band is amazing, real, the truth, everything!
the TRUE meaning of this song has nothing to do with you buying THEIR music.
I think as long as people are listening to their music, and that's the only way they can get their music, by downloading, then what's the problem? At least people are listening. At least they have fans. Still a sick song though. I love SFTP.
Where there is a sickness there is cure, this is my cure to everything!
