Akihiko reminds me a lot of makoto in sf3. Just this like, clunky, slow ass tank when you pick them up at first, but once you understand them you notice that they're made to weave in an out of every situation at break-neck speeds. Seeing him play patiently at full screen and then immediately step on the gas as he gets an opening is so satisfying. I might actually try him once 2.0 releases

Akihiko is my favorite kind of FG character. He's got cool stuff like damage/antiair/mixups, but he's also got weaknesses like range and unsafe options. That creates an interesting gameplay that hooks me as soon as I sit down and play, not 20 hours later after I understand the character and all the matchups.
Also, I appreciate the fact that he's dressed appropriately for a fighting tournament. Ironically, only because he's always dressed that way.
His combos look cool tho so instant S tier for me

I know he's a mid tier but damn Akihiko is literally my fav FG character ever.
Back when my roommate and I played Arena constantly, he mained Akihiko exclusively.
He's like, the most honest, straightforward character in the game... until he decides to not be. You go from half the match keeping him at range with big, long-range attacks and meaty normals to Akihiko dashing the entire screen to take out a quarter of your health bar in one punch and comboing from behind you somehow. His burst potential is explosive.
...Which is every character in Persona, to be fair, but it always surprised me coming from Akihiko.
one thing that didn't get mentioned, probably because lk isn't playing a zoner like Yukiko, is that Aki's best combo routs are free to burst since they rely on machinegun blow. imagine spending the whole round getting zoned out only to get bursted for free out of your one opportunity to actually land a combo..
During this era of P4A the undisputed king of Akihiko was a player named Moke. Dude was as godlike as Mocchi and Haaken were with Sol in Xrd, but then disappeared once Ultimax came out. The players who were closest to his level imo during the Ultimax days were Jona and Musui, but man, I rly wish Moke stayed. I hope he returns for the re-release next month.

I never played much Persona so it's interesting to hear the thoughts of someone who took it seriously. There always seemed to be a bit too much filth in the game for my tastes, but I'd probably have a lot of fun with it if I gave it a chance these days.
By the way, if you're looking for Twitch discussion fodder, you should try my video about Nage and Tomo at the Mikado Tenkaichi Budokai series. I may sound like I'm begging for views, but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on that one (and the production quality is a LOT higher than my Raven balance history video).

I always thought trying to block akihiko when he had 25 bar was hell lol. Terrified to get duffed by sb hook. Terrified to get crossed up in like 18 frames. And of course when you start respecting the fact that you die when he duffs you with sb hook he kinda just gets to do whatever. Safe dp for 50... Gorillas in for 50... He dunks on a lot of characters across arcsys games for sure but p4a powerlevel is mad silly so he really is just high tier lol.

Yeah, basically the version we're getting hasn't been released outside of Japanese arcades. I only know a little bit about the patch, I'm doing research now.

yosuke was top tier in p4a2 wasn't he? so maybe worth considering. also, akihiko had some of the hypest combos though. i never played him, just mitsuru. i kinda want to see a persona 5 arena to see how they evolve akihiko's playstyle. he'll probably be in a business suit or something throwing punches.
