regarding the heel-up thing: I've been tought that your heel should stay on the ground because its a kind of anchor which connects your (hitting) fist to the ground to have a stable force transmission. whats your opinion on that? (1st kyu shotokan if that matters)
I have a second degree black belt, and I have been practicing karate for 17 years, and I cannot apply it in street fights. Unfortunately, maybe Muay Thai is better, or boxing.
I am also a Nidan and have been training for 15 years. My guess is that you already know a lot of kata. You should check out Iain Abernathy’s channel called “practical kata bunkai.” There is a lot of info there for almost every kata I know about how to apply kata and karate in general in realistic situations. Those other martial arts are also good, but you probably have a solid foundation to build from with karate.
@@grilledcuttlefish9837 great adivce, I took this road 5 years ago and it opens a full new world for me and saved Karate for me, which I love now even more!
If you can't apply karate in street fight then you have studied ballet and forms for 17 years. Karate bunkai looks close to panan tukan or dirty boxing
@@IbrahimKhalil-bt9yh Hi, yeah maybe ... I meet people in our club, that aren't there for selfdefence, they just enjoying the physical exerises and I would say the "Do" aspect of perfecting a motion and the inner battle etc. etc. ... So Karate can be a different vessel for ones journey, as one chooses... But I totally agree, that if you looked for self defence, and you just learn form after form without going into the meaning of the movements... you are tricked. Like some old master said (losely cited): "Without knowing the meaning, Kata is just dance!"
@@falkschiffner6565 yes it has become an 'art' for most karatekas and the application have almost been lost. Karate is a deadly fighting system that many will never learn and all they will have is a bullshido fantasy, so I separate between the two, just like you would a diamond and cubic zirconia.
