I must be odd. I actually like the fan interface. It is easy for anyone who reads the manual. It is people who don’t read manuals who struggle with it.
It must not have been a significant problem for buyers and users because it was a relatively popular camera at the time, and was sold by Nikon for eight years which I believe is the equal longest run (with the F401X and F5) of Nikon SLR cameras released in the 1990’s. It continued to be available for two years after the release of its successor (the F80) which had a six year run. The much vaunted F100 was sold for seven years.
Nikon tracked sales and discontinued sales when the camera sales were crumbling. The fact that the F70 had an eight year run, just like the F5, and longer than the F100, F90X, F801S, etc suggests that the disdain that the RUclips generation has for the camera is mostly a digital era opinion.
I am not complaining. It keeps prices low :)

I bought one from an antique store with the mirror stuck up. That was a simple fix. Yes, the display was a bit confusing, until I read the manual. Simple, I set it for "A" and work the aperture ring and the camera seems to do the rest. I'm almost done with my first (test) roll. We will see.
