- Of all the Mario sports games, Super Mario Strikers (known also as Mario Smash Football) is my favorite. This game has given me some of my fondest memories with my friends. But with such a radical departure from the typical Mario look and feel, there must have been quite a few changes leading up to release... and there were.

The very best Mario sport spin-off.... Mario Strikers.
Strikers Charged on the Wii is like the very definition of the direction this spin off must take. It made this series take its own tone, its own way.
Seeing the Mario cast showing a part of their personality that isn't shown in other games is awesome, and this series is the only place where they can do it.
How I wish a new entry...

Yes. Wish we can see more of that in other games.
Charged has way too steep of a learning curve and even people who played the GameCube one a lot (such as myself) can't just pick it up and be able to make it past the first couple levels of the AI. The controls are also so un-intuitive, like why do I have to reach over to the D-pad to tackle (something that's needed to do a lot) instead of the perfectly intuitive option of pressing the B button, the same as to shoot the ball. I love the original for the GameCube, but I hate the remake for the Wii (I know that's an unpopular opinion, but I guess I'm not a god-gamer like everyone else who somehow knows how to play the game - it's just not beginner-friendly even though I'm not even a beginner). I even gave it a second try when I grew older to see if maybe this time I can get into it, but I still can't. I'll admit the aesthetics are nicer, but it's just not fun for me to play at all because the controls are completely counter-intuitive to me.

which may explain why they were not used. the chant is so common in stadiums (although not the UK) that a lot of people think Queen (Brian May) was inspired by it when writing we will rock you.

I never understand why some would pick Fifa over Mario Strikers. I hope a new one releases on NX. :D
One more thing to point out, Mario's voice when doing the beta super strike, sounds not like Mario.

Well that's all your opinions, so TiddleDink; I'd think twice before calling someone _______ dumb. I for one have been on a Soccer team in my childhood, and plus I like cartoony looking games rather than realistic looking ones, except for GTA. :P

I really hope this series gets a Wii U entry, because some things it definitely needs are Rosalina, HD graphics, and the ability to use a controller that isn't a Wii remote (damn Charged...)

Im pretty sure most of this unused stuff was put into Strikers Charged like the sidekicks getting their own little versions of the Super Strikes, the captains getting Mega Strikes and the Twister stage hazard becoming seperated into two stages in Strikers Charged which is Thunder island and The Wasteland

Oddly enough, when I first saw this game, it looked like a game that should have blood in it.
Ok, you may think thats just stupid, but it looks so intense that it looks like it.

I feel the Mario Overworld Theme feels like it was intended to be a victory theme. Reminds me of the victory themes in Mario Kart Wii.

The only thing I'm disappointed with was the descision to remove the ability for sidekicks to do Super Strike moves.
There's literally 5 Sidekicks in the game.

That intro is pretty awesome. I enjoyed this game, every match I was in I quickly turned into a violent game of field hockey. Gotta get it again.
Although I had Mario Strikers Charged, I haven't had the chance to own Super Mario Strikers on the Game Cube. That was a great game.

I'm sad to say that I never played Super Mario Strikers, but I did play the sequel, Mario Strikers Charged. I had such a fun time playing it with friends, and the Road to Striker Cup campaign was a definite challenge. I could only get past Crystal Cup against Diddy before I needed a friend for the rest of it.
Really awesome spin-off series that I wish had another sequel.

one of my favorite games! Im proud to say I was pretty damn good, my friends called me me cheap and eventually stopped playing me lol. For some reason I didnt really like Charged much tho, I think it was the ball splitting up and the gameplay was a little different
Mario Over world theme at the end... The cover art reminds me of Earthbound, and the instruments sound like something that would be used in an HD version of Earthbound.

Every member of the Super Team can do a super strike. So I guess the idea of the whole team, and not just the captain, being able to use a super strike wasn't 100% scrapped.
This game came out when I was 11. The perfect time to be embellished in edge.

CHANTS_GEN_Stomp_Clap_07.idsp is used by the super team super strike. And if I'm correct the other chants are used in the pipe arena (not 100% sure about that).

Something that I noticed (and I'm certain someone else has already pointed this out) is that the first and the fourth "stomp/clap" effects sound a little bit like We Will Rock You, from Queen.

Mario Strikers Charged was the first Mario sports game to be released for the Wii.
