As a chemist and a hobby potter, I was so excited to hear Maya say the word "vitrification." I explain what it means to people that are buying my pottery but this was the first time I've heard someone else use it in any other context.
It would not be a worlds wildest episode without Connor going "I’ll get to that in a minute" at least twice ✨💅🏻
I love the image of a tardigrade having a fist fight with bacteria
i think that the craziest thing i learned from this episode is that connors married lol.
Kayla is the best! They stream on Connors channel together sometimes 🙂
What about 'World's Hungriest' (animals that eat the most compared to their body weight?)
This is how I found out I was vitrified as an embryo for 8 years and not frozen. Science is crazy
Do you have any superpowers?
smooth as glass.. XD
technically, you've been around 8 years plus your age
@@AsterSkotosles be real technicalllll, everyone gets ‘made’ when ur mom develops her eggs which is when i remember as a baby when ure born so where all 25-40 plus years older
I have a microscope! I'm gonna do it!
SAME! Right to soaking some moss.
Can I borrow it when you're done?
You’re one of the five😂😂
Commenting here so i get notification for this thread when you do it and describe what you saw and did you found any ? ... awaiting for your results :D
"it's really killing my vibe" - *plays happiest song known to man*
Video Idea; Animals/insects we thought were extinct. Could elaborate on the conservation efforts and goals for the species.
I see Tardigrade I click. Very simple.
People of culture
@@BigLittleFedoraProdt microculture even
silly cell bear silly cell bear
Tardigrades were my suggestion on the Episode 1 video, for all the reasons here!
They really are badasses 🤘😫🤘
Hold on. Whats the source on the 20 minutes to die when naked at 32 degrees? I tried to google this and did not see anything to support this idea. In fact there have been studies that you will die in 15 to 45 minutes of exposure to 32.5 degree water. Maybe that is what you meant but that makes a huge huge difference.
25:50 brb buying a microscope
edit: maya is slaying this episode i love her outfit
I don't remember their name but there are a few people on twitch that stream microscope displays, may be neat to check out
I love this podcast I feel my brain grow when I listen
That cut Lion King scene is actually in the broadway show of The Lion King. The song for the scene is called 'The Madness Of King Scar' if anyone wanted to know.
'I watched the animated one, not the cartoon' what does maya think animation is LOL
I think she meant the live action one 😂😂 where the animals are cgi.
Episode idea! Worlds highest,
Animals that get high on substances, like a dolphin on a pufferfish or monkeys on fermented fruit.
Or you could just do bird that flys the highest or animals that live in the tallest trees. But I think the drugs one is more fun.
Tardigrade under a microscope are SOOO CUTTEEE!!! I did something very similar to what Connor described in one of my class, I highly suggest anyone to try! Just make sure you put your sample back where you found it! I makes me want to do it again with my own microscope! AND thank you for the wood frog!!! Love herps!! you explained it so well. I never understood why a frozen frog was so special, but now I understand! As a diabetic, I love these frog so much more now!!! A leaderboard would be a good idea!
Bro I’m floridian so I’m always fascinated by cold tolerant things because I wore my aunts old Alaskan parkas anytime it ran below 90 F (around 32 c) my husband called me an Argonian or lizard 🦎 before we started dating because cold intolerance. My aunt working as an entomologist in Alaska I was constantly fascinated by the various insects that functioned in the article circle. Her roommate was an indigenous and studied livestock and local wildlife so she work with a lot of native species and my aunts boyfriend at the time was an Ichthyologist and the roommates girlfriend was a botanist. It kind of wasn’t really that surprising to me that I grew up idolizing stem program students 😅 they lived very interesting lives to me but also to grow up only seeing snow once it was so bizarre to me that their warm summer temperatures when things reproduce and flourish would be our cool fall to winter temperatures at times when things are dying and resting. It was a strange concept as someone who spent so much time outside and I guess the ebb and flow the idea it being so drastically different would be crazy. Her stories of it being so cold they can’t use plumbing and have to use outhouses and have to conserve their water🪠 while I’m literally wading water to get to school and just understand that some of my neighbors will have to sleep at my house because their home will flood the rainy season is bizarre.
It’s just neat I guess how diverse the planet is!
I used to have a tardigrade plushie but I lost it somewhere! It's probably still surviving though...
That's actually the best argument for only getting children tardigrade plushies, they won't be worried about them getting hurt or dying 🥸 not like when I forgot my stuffed dog in England when I got back from an exchange and I was so worried that he'd be hurt during transit..😢
Loving the pod!
This episode was made for me. Cold is my favorite!
Take a shot everytime he says "and I'll get to that in a minute"
tardigrades are my FAVOURITE animals
So the Nala/Scar scene is not when she's a cub... it's not as weird as it sounds but it's also for sure part of why Scar is a villain.
This is so cool! Frigid AF man!
Great episode
this is my favorite podcast ever. God i love animals ty maya i feel blessed
please make that Tardigrade merch I'd buy it so quick!
It's crazy they talked about wood frogs in this episode, because I literally heared a report about them on the radio today. Crazy coincidence
love the pod
34:06 Lions have 1 or 2 makes in a pride so Nala was either his daughter or niece. PLEASE watch the pitch meeting and react if you can 😂 🦁
Audio listeners you're missing out we got world's wildest in 4k now
Awesome podcast.
9:31 the "HUH?!" is so good
Fun fact (as a lifelong Alaskan): some of the lower 48 states get colder than the lower half of Alaska during the winter and summers regularly get up to 75 F during the summer. Maybe I'm just used to it, but I don't think it's that bad :)
It's cold in Australia right now so thank you for representing us!
Welcome to Wild about it
SOOO… I know that this (wonderful) podcast is still relatively new BUT I was wondering if, provided that they’re all comfortable with it of course, we could _possibly_ look forward to a couple future guest episodes that each feature one of other ladies of Alveus discussing their favorite animals and/or species that they’re best versed in/most knowledgeable of?!
So, I’m thinking: Kayla - birds/hawks, Lindsay - marine life/sharks, Sruti - canines/wolves/dogs, & Ella - different terrains and/or bugs/animals that are *extremely* closely related to rocks/grass/trees/etc. Now, my suggestions are _solely_ based on information that I’ve picked up on here and there via livestreams and VODS, but obviously we would LOVE to hear the girls talk in-depth about whatever animals they want to!
I do realize that this happening is quite the long shot, so I def won’t be holding my breath!! LOL. But I’m pretty sure that I can speak for the vast majority of Alveus fans and supporters by saying that these episodes would be HELLA enjoyable!! 🥰
Also, whether we ever get episodes like these are not, thank you guys sooo much for the dope as hell podcast that you already provide us with!! You guys are the bestest!! 😍
I love tardigrades! I actually learned about them watching a cute episode of a kid's show on PBS with my son, 'The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That' episode 'Tough Enough'.
Episode idea: World safest, like story abt sanctuaries, rescues and stuff like that
Yes pleas for the justice for tardigrade merch! 10/10 would buy a mug and/or shirt
Every other frog: could you survive the winter?
Wood frog: my lack of strength for digging could be an issue…
Every other frog: but would you die?
Wood frog: nah, I’d freeze
watching this while im dead, anybody else?
i was resurrected yesterday, actually 😌
we put water brought in from random puddles and stuff under the microscope in middle school, and there were waterbears in all of the samples. can't do it again to tag y'all though, cause i don't have a microscope
33:17 D: omfg, I could've done without knowing this not-so-fun fact about Lion King
KAYLA IS CONNORS WIFE?!
IKR!?!?
Lol
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who was in the dark. 😂 Such a power couple for animal conservation. ❤
Literally my same reaction 😭
I need the tardigrade merch!!! I'd buy it and add it to my collection with the wolfie merch!
YAY NEW WORLDS WILDEST
In my junior HS, we brought lake water to our science class to look at water bears under a microscope
i love this show
9:26 YOOOO LEARNED A SICK NEW WORD TODAY LETS GOO
i wonder if anyone has clicked on this podcast because of the algorithm or they're here because of Maya
you guys need to start a series called "Maya watches movies for once"
Y'all just listened to Henge's Tardigrades song.
for real
How are you in “cold weather gear” in Texas right now!?!
i would buy tardigrade merch so fast
Fun stuff
I love finding out I’ve been glass before (IVF baby here)
it's perfect for world's coldest in australia :) freezing down here
pls make that merch maya mentioned
27:27 producer has a pretty nasty ground loop
Only reason I expected/knew tardigrade was the Star Trek episode
I need an interview of one of the tardigrades that most likely survived the spaceship explosion and are just chilling on the moon
I’m Canadian, 0 degrees Celsius during winter is a good day
i’ll do anything for the tardigrade space strike merch
Crab episode when
Water Bear looks like it is from Star Wars ❤
ngl my biggest takeaway from this is that maya saw the photorealistic lion king before the fucking cartoon and im genuinely upset
Never been so early
Episode topic suggestion: most elusive
nice
So what do the vultures do when they "peege" to cool down?
They pee on their legs
@@worldswildestpodcast thank you🫡
Im a biology student and we are allowed to use the microskopes so I know what I'll do next week
PLEASE make the tardigrade merch
They say Connor is atill going to get to that in a minute.
I think .55 inches is pretty big tbh
I love this sibling rivarly and bickering between you, slightly boarderlining at uncomfortable at times but I get it's not too serious. Honestly charming
Cold POG
yippie! :3
Jokes on the tardigrade, I can basically boil myself in alcohol too and somewhat survive.
will there be a world's toughest? I think the different types of body armor in nature would be a good topic but likely the science behind it is uhhhhhhhhhh
lol self freeze drying bugs =P // 😼😼😼
I love when Maya and Connor 'beef' bc the other one is not impressed enough with their facts. It's such sibling energy
the clock is broken
Finding out Conner has a wife made me so happy lmao XD
Will this pod ever have guests or no? not complaining its a good podcast, just curious
my guess is they're still perfecting the format before introducing a guest segment - since it is still a relatively new pod
excuse you connor but i'm studying zoology so i have a microscope on me including a pocket microscope in my purse everywhere i go! (yes i know i'm a nerd but idc animals are better than people.)
If I had a dollar for every time Connor says "i'll get to that in a bit" I'd be rich
Nala is Simba's sister
👍
Who’s gonna tell Maya that the lion king cut scene happens in the cartoon…
worlds fakest: mythical creatures and the real things that inspired them. like when you talked about narwhals inspiring unicorns
0.5 mm is 0.0196 inches
1.5 mm is 0.0590 inches
Maya needs to see cartoon Lion King, it’s so much better than the newest one.
20:40 it’s funny she mentions willy wonka here because that image is definitely ai generated
worlds horniest do with that what u will
They did bonobos already 😅
Wouldn't that just be bed bugs 😂
brrrr
WWP
Breaks my heart how many innocent animals have suffered, died, and “lived” (not a life) in research laboratories because of humans. Really sad.
