Amitus is really annoying mechanically, but she so beautifully represents Paladin. While most of the Titans protect themselves, it is poetic that the Paladin Titan protects others.
In general, I’d say all the Titans (outside of Rogue’s and maybe DH’s) perfectly encapsulate their class’s design.

Even for DH there's an argument to be made, the rush/lifesteal depending on position is somewhat reminicent of the outcast mechanic, and reducing the cost of card in hand deffinitly fit DH class design.

To be fair to any of these Rarran videos, and general analysis, HS Replay and other Meta crap is just 1 way to evaluate a card... and it really doesn't evaluate the Card at all most of the time, it evaluates the Deck and Meta.
Strong cards can see little to no play because the decks and meta don't favor them their entire lifespan in Standard and then they're just not broken enough for Wild, leaving the card "bad" and forgettable regardless of its own merits as a card. In a case like that, Arena ratings would be interesting for card that don't need built around... because you let most of these deck it out in Arena then Sargeras or Amitus is probably leaving a bigger trail of bloodshed than Yogg or Eonar.

1: Symphony of Sins. One of the cards used to reduce your highest cost minion by 6 and draw it.

  • @andrwarrior

The play pattern of yogg was really what warranted the nerf. Like Rarran said, both wild and standard suffered as all classes and archetypes found ways to build their deck with a critical mass of spell and draw (sometimes minion copy effects, or hand disruption to specifically target minions), and it became Yoggfest 2023.

  • @LikeAFemaleDog

Around the 17-18 minute mark, CGB brings up a really big complaint the community had about planeswalkers years back. We had like 12 at least that were 4-6 mana, had +1 loyalty to draw or scry draw or surveil draw, -3 to bounce or destroy or phase out or exile a creature or make a flyer or a 3/3 blocker, and an ultimate that's fairly broken. As a player of both MTG and Yugioh (I only played Hearthstone until the Grand Tournament expansion), here is my list (I didn't listen to Cimo or CGB while I made this):
==God tier, auto-include like Dr Boom back in the day, basically wins the game on the spot==
    1) Aman'Thul - WTF this card is insane. I can remove any 2 minions, without deathrattle going off? This ability would be played on its own for 7 mana and see play, right? WTF was Blizzard smoking when they made this card?! Oh, they have a board of 7 minions and you need to stabilize? Vision of heroes has you covered, and its also a hail mary if the strike from history isn't enough. And if you are ahead, Shape the Stars just says "btw you win the game lmao." Oh, and this isn't EVEN MENTIONING THAT YOU GET A FREE LEGENDARY IN YOUR HAND EACH TURN. Holy shit, I'm sorry you had to deal with this card for any amount of time.
    2) Golganneth - Another cracked card. Only 6 mana, so its cheep. And you can do a board sweep and kill anything with less than 3 health, AND stabalize on top of that? Wow. If your opponent's threat is a big minion, then you can just kill it. And you can Sharghan's Wrath if you are ahead and don't need anything right away. And if it lives the turn, your next turn you save 3 mana.
==Great tier, are awesome cards of their own write, but aren't as game-warping as the above==
    3) Eonar - This card basically says "win the game if you can cast this" You get 12 toughness worth of taunters with 5 attack each. You get to stabilize by fully healing yourself. You can just basically get another turn by refreshing your mana crystals. And if cards are a problem, you can just draw tons more! The only problem is that it costs 10 mana, but its druid, so in actuality its more like 8 mana (at the expense of being weak to face hunter). Great card. I only put it behind the others since you do have to sacrifice some early game to play this before you lose, so it probably just loses to face hunter a lot, which tampers things. Also, even turn 8 seems kind of slow.
    4) Yogg Saron - For an average deck, you would probably play this on turn 8, but some aggressive decks get to cast this bad boy on turn 6. And there you get to steal an enemy minion? Geez. And if it isn't enough, you can then fill you hand with the tentacles next turn and start going nuts. In midrange decks, you probably cast this later but use it as a pseudo board wipe when you are slightly behind but not super far behind, and then if this survives win the game next turn. I think the midrange use case isn't good enough, but I imagine this is a staple of aggressive mage decks and face hunter decks.
    5) Amitus - You can play the pacified mana effect even if you have an empty board against a full board to get a pseudo board wipe, since they need to attack this 4 times, and then deal at most 6 to your face. Then you've moved them down to a board with four 2/1s and two 2/2s while you take only 6 damage next turn. And that is if you had nothing! If you are ahead, you just use empowered and instantly win. If you are parity, either 2 could be what you need. And reinforced can be a hail mary for certain really bad situations. Honestly, this card just seems like its never bad, even if you only get 1 effect off, and if you activate multiple your opponent might as well concede. So yeah, this is fantastic
==Good tier, saw play, and got some excitement, but aren't powerful enough for people to complain about them.==
    6) Sargeras - The 9 mana is rough, but assuming you cast this you just win. Are you very behind? To the Void will save you. Even if they cast removal, you won out. If you are ahead, you can cast Inferno and threaten game next turn. And Legion invasion is great if you are parity and don't want to sacrifice what you've gained so far. Being weak to aggressive decks does limit this card's usefulness though.
    7) Khaz'goroth: Assuming I'm reading this right, this seems good. It seems you are always doing tempering first, since you first will kill a random enemy minion, then you get an extra attack (again, if I understand it correctly), and both attacks are basically going to kill whatever. The other abilities are just gravy for later, but getting a 9/4, and destroy random enemy minion and target enemy minion for 6 is pretty baller. It's mainly held back since it doesn't really have anything to live when behind against a wide board like the above 5 cards, but its still pretty good!
    8) Voltron - So, the "default mode" seems to be a 5/6 for 6 that gives another minion +2/+1 and deals 8 damage randomly broken into two random 4 chunks? That's pretty great. And if you are ahead, you can make it a 4/7 and draw 2. And if your opponent doesn't have a board, you can just do Maximize Defense and win the game. And the fact that this is only 6 mana seems like its cracked. Seems like it is just always good, and those are the sorts of cards you want to play. The only problem is that, compared to the previous 4 on the list, where they can easily save you if you are far behind, this doesn't really have that sort of mechanism. (I unfortunately heard you describe this as the worst one at the end of the segment, so I forced myself to keep it here in relation to all of the stuff that came before to keep myself honest.)
    9) Aggramar - This seems good. Deal 5 damage to whatever I want for the next 3 turns starting turn 6 already seems pretty great. Face hunter can close a game with this, and midrange can clear up. If you won't win immediately and you are face hunter, you can use maintain order to ensure you will keep your card draw and aggression to win. Commanding presence seems like its not super valuable outside of niche situations, but hey, its still something.
==Fine tier, good card that saw some play, but no one was excited about it==
    10) Primus - Primus seems just fine. Rune of blood stabalizes if your opponent just has one big minion you need to deal with. Otherwise Rune of the Unholy will get you through the turn and protect Primus. Runes of Frost is fine, but its not like its the draw of this card. Basically, this seems like a fine titan that might just get slotted into the deck of its class (I don't recognize the card backing?).
    ==Bad tier, probably didn't see play==
    11) Norgannon - This card reads 6 mana to get a 3 mana effect, and it dies next turn. The only saving grace is that it does present a "must kill on sight" because of Progenitor's power, but unfortunately you kind of just let them do that. This would only see play if mage had sufficiently good protection tools in the meta.
    12) Argus - Argunite Armor seems like the only real stabalizing effect, and it pales in comparison to the others. Sure, I get 8 toughness worth of taunts, but I imagine lots of things can deal 2 to all minions or something like that. Plus, it can't even get used fully if you have more than 2 minions when you bring this guy out. You aren't using Show of Force immediately, and Crystal Carving seems more like a meme. Ooh, I get a Leper Gnome. Fantastic. It can be a hail mary, but since this costs 7 I'll have to hope my guy doesn't get killed to actually use it. Show of Force is a woopty do. It's turn 7, so its not like my hand is filled with cards unless drawing s something that Demon Hunter does.
Welp I got shown wrong lol.

It's actually silly how Primus could theoretically just eat a 100/100 and give you literal 100 health AND a random rune spell, the other 3/3 taunts just make aggro cry and the spell damage kind of sets up weird lethals you might not even see coming, Primus is that good.

I love these videos, cgb and cimo are both great people to do these videos with!
Just a little context for some of the titans, Amanthul (the priest titan that you both liked) is even better because priest can copy and resurrect amanthul. it's not uncommon for priest to play 3,4 and sometimes even more copies of amanthul in one game. Amanthul and cards similar have basically killed midrange and deathrattle strategies in hearthstone because of the "poof" effects that rarran talks about. If your entire deck is built around resurrecting big butts but none of them actually "die" it's a super feels bad.
There are a lot of copy effects in HS, and casting 15 spells is a lot easier than you might think. Yogg Saron very often just cost 0 mana so you could do whatever you want with the rest of your mana to get extra copies of it on board or in your hand. It was a silly time to play the game. Now it's basically just played as a 9 mana neutral mind control.
I am pretty sure rarran has showed you guys Wheel of Death before, and sargeras was one of the best cards to play after your deck is gone. Sargeras almost always seals the game if you can get away with selecting the +2 health and taunt option. Sargeras feels amazing to play and for good reason. He was the big bad of the WoW expansion that he was in.
The primus is a super cool card and has been in every deathknight deck since its release. Not only because it's good but it has no rune requirement. Deathknight has been so popular at times that in the mirror you are afraid to play it because if you remove a big 8/8 minion and your primus has 17 health, the opponent can now primus your primus and have a massive 26 health minion that gave their hero +17 max hp. This is a lesson every DK player learns eventually. Never play you primus before theirs.
Have a nice day, hope you liked a bit of extra knowledge!

Great video! The scoring could be more objective imo. You could do it like golf. How many positions away was CC placement from the card from the list you had.
For example, say Yogg was placed 3rd by CC1, and the other CC2 placed it 5th. Then, content creator 1 (CC) would get 2 points added to their score, and content creator 2 gets 4 points added to their score. Then at the end, whoever has the lowest score wins.

I think what's also important to mention is that when Yogg first came out (or at least after the next rotation) there were only two different 10 mana spells, Table Flip, which deals 3 to all enemy minions, and Sunset Volley (which now costs 9), which deals 10 damage split amoung all enemies and summons a random 10 drop.
So with the yogg ability giving you a lot of tendrils you could easily get them to cast either of those really quickly and really often

Even Yogg wasn't really essential to the tentacle decks we got, just an obvious include; Norg's variance and the arguable wincon of deal 20 means you really can't just shove him in a mage deck and have it perform, he needs a dedicated strat to be most effective imo

Haven't played Hearthstone in years but been enjoying your videos lately, to me Yogg immediately seemed broken because you could get it out so early or have it as basically a freebie to change the course of the game whenever you need... From memory there's lots of cheap spells and some that give you mana back like a coin so you could reduce it's cost for very little cost to you. I'm surprised the demon wasn't higher as it feels like you'd be able to use all 3 abilities really consistently on this card where as some of the other titans I can see only being on the board for 2 turns

  • @Lightning_Lance
    @Lightning_Lance Месяц назад +1

Yay, I got it right. :D
I saw Yogg-Saron and immediately said this is the best one. Because
    A) that cost will go down much faster than you'd expect. Or at the least, it will be playable by the time the other player drops their Titan or other haymaker card, and that's all we need for this to be broken.
    B) if everybody is playing Titans, the one Titan that lets you take theirs has to be the best one.
    C) it steals the opponent's Yogg-Saron, so it has the Mental Misstep effect where the best way to deal with it is to play your own copy.
Although I will say, making Yogg-Saron a Titan is a lore fail imo. Unless there's some new lore idk about.
