As a 2016 SS owner those Q50 red sports are no joke! My car is a manual with cai, 2" long tubes and 3" catted mid-pipes. Tuned it puts down right at 400 to the wheel. Lined up with one of those and we ran from about 10ish to around 70ish and they were right with me the entire way. It didn't surprise me that the Q50 did so well in this vid. Especially against the auto SS. And even though the SS is getting to be slower than a lot of these new TT V6 cars, I really don't care because it sounds AMAZING and there is no V6 made that can compete.
The sound of the LS 3 is worth giving up a few tenths. The top end is where this thing really surprises, well surprises those who don't understand V8's and torque curves and such.
Bone stock tuned only Q puts down roughly 420whp so maybe it was a jb4 or tune only Q that was right with you. It’s a fun car, mine makes a hair over 500 wheel but the sound of the LS is music!
The SS is a better drivers car. The Infiniti a better daily driver. AWD spoils you. As a Q50 RS owner, it has been very reliable, runs 12s consistently at 110mph in normal conditions and 28mpg at 80mph with a 20 gallon gas tank is very efficient and convenient.
The lack of depreciation on an SS coupled in with ease of maintenance and versatile platform make these car still superior to just about anything on the market even so 5 years later. The new TT platforms by BMW and Nissan are great don’t get me wrong, it’s just very hard to take anything away from something so proven as an LS in a Holden Chassis.
Loved my RedSport 400. Pop a simple piggy back JB4 on it and it REALLY wakes up around town and down low. Will spank the quarter mile in low to mid 12's at 114-115mph. Transmission is a dog around town under normal driving but that's expected. At WOT however, it performs very well and shifts quickly. Pop on the sport exhaust for $500 and it really sounds great. Combined with the JB4 it will scream up front as it pulls in more air and out back with a very subtle G-like tone. Just be sure to go into the hidden menu and turn off the fake sound generator so there's no drone.

If the Q50 was even slight modified (heat exchanger, lower downpipe, tune and a flexfuel kit on e30) (less than $2,800) It would easily trap mid to high 11's from 118mph up to 120mph. Was nice to see this video and I hope my comment helps yield some more knowledge.
The Infiniti also has twin turbos and a more modern transmission. It did good but its pushing the limit for its capacity compared to the ls3 which even with the mods you mentioned, still has a lot more to give even without boost.

Such a great match up, I’ve always loved the G8/SS/Commodore platform as well as the G35/37-Q50/60 platform. I was looking for a G8 GT or SS when the car market tanked, so I bought a 12 G37 sedan snd love it, especially for $12k. I have to say I’m not surprised but still impressed by the almost 15 year old drivetrain in the SS, LS3 and 6L80 still get it done. Both beautiful cars I’d love to own, but tilted towards SS for its rarity but also massive modding potential.
I got a Chevy caprice which is a cop car made on the g8 platform and is a commodore series 1, I got mine for $10,000 with on 66k miles and it’s a total sleeper once you fix all crap the cops broke. Geez who would have guessed that when that old Chevys traction control was off and not cutting the engine's horsepower, it easily smoked the brand new hot nissan. The best part is it's about three times more reliable than that Nissan's ever going to be too.
This video really makes me miss my SS. The sleeper aspect of it is next to none. Probably my favorite aspect of owning it was being able to fly under the radar until I step on the go pedal. The LS3 really takes to modification well.
2nd driver of the Q50 didn't even brake boost off the line and I don't think the first driver was building max boost, which is 2500 rpm. Still interesting to watch though.
I have a genesis g70 3.3Twin turbo awd stock. My cousin has the q50rs awd. It keeps up and I only get him by about 2 cars on a dig to the quarter. Love the infinity though. I had an m37x and it was the best car I ever owned. Not as fast as my genesis but still was quick as hell and never had a better riding car! Always wanted the m56x awd with the 5.6 v8 but not many out there especially in great shape. Engines are bullet proof!
If this hasn't been stated: The SS has a DRAG RACE "launch mode" You toggle the center know from; Tour, Sport, Performance...and past that, you can access the DRAG RACE mode. It's essentially a Line Loc and you can floor the gas pedal, and leave the line @ 4,000 rpm As the owner of a 2017 SS 6spd Manual Trans car...it leaves HARD at 4,000

The stock Infiniti turbos seem to die off on the top end, and they need a lot of cooling upgrades to keep the numbers up. Great cars nonetheless. They really wake up with a tune.
Yes, I looked at my dash when the flag man dropped his arms. That lack of attention cost me big. I wanted to be in a lower gear during the roll to stay in the powerband, had I accelerated to catch up - the transmission would have upshifted and game over. Hope this context helps mate!
Sorry but even if its slower, id rather hear a V8 over a V6. Great videos as always tho. Also those last 2 kinda canceled each other out. The dig race, the infinity driver did thumbs up, then looked away and missed the start, and the SS driver hit late on the roll race.
Them vqs in the Infiniti sound crazy tho. Very beefy unique sound. American V8s sound the same. Those v6s sounds of the vqs are for real car people. Just my opinion
These Infiniti RS were steals before the chip shortage etc. You could go get a 2016 and it looked exactly like the 2022, minus the steering wheel and lights.
I raced a Q50rs about 2 months ago. He was a young driver 18-25, I'd guess. It had no chance! Maybe he didn't know what he was doing... 16' SS with bolt ons and a tune
If you are getting into this world of rare cars, find you a CTS V-Sport and do some races. That is what I have and there is some tuning potential there with the 3.6 TT. We just had the first one in the 10's a couple weeks ago, and a 93 octane tune can get you in the high 11's with no real mods needed. I have always considered the SS and the V-Sport to be rare unappreciated cousins. Both fantastic cars that GM failed to sell (surprise surpise)
The Infiniti was more impressive, less HP, almost as heavy and won 2 races and one in the roll and started behind him in that as well. If he wasnt sleeping, he'd probably have every race.
It's actually a Holden with Chevy badges but people swap them back to Holden badges confusing I know but they where all made and designed here in Australia and we put the Chevy motor in them

AWD played a very big part just imagine the SS with AWD also a good quick shifting transmission as well but a good race I like both vehicles 👍👍
Lexus Gs F vs Infiniti q50 red sport
Chevy ss / pontiac g8gt all day that should be the next match up same chassis different take.
Technically the G8 is VE (Zeta) Commodore and the SS is a VF (Zeta 2) Commodore. They are similar, but the Zeta 2 chassis is superior.
@@caseybrannon4975 really now you think that's prolly why I said what I said jesus christ
@@caseybrannon4975 thank you. I was of impression that they were the exact same platform. Got to go do my homework on the 2 different platforms
@@lsjionredlinesupercharged2049 He probably corrected the fact you said they were on the the same chassis ...

The ss would of won the roll 2 but the driver held off the starts because he was almost a whole car ahead
Would love to see Honda Accord sport VS Buick Regal Turbo match-up
(Great video)$
Yes
Yes!!
Regal turbo won't stand a chance.
Even the 2018 regal tje v6 one with awd vs rdx new
@@Blue-moon12 shit it'll eat that accord up
Fun comparison. That SS has the venerable LS3 which I would take any day over these new turbocharged engines.
💯
I get that from a longer life perspective and maybe sound but from a tune ability and gas mileage the V6tt has the edge.
I would agree if it was the LT1 from the Corvette. But not this detuned version..
@@nighthawk0077 The LT1 also has cylinder deactivation and direct injection, both of which can cause problems but otherwise they are great engines as well.
The SS is stock aside from a CAI. A proper tune and LT headers alone would do wonders.
Can’t wait to Holden the car out but it’s basically a cheaper ss with a ls2 6.0 instead of a ls3 but it’s got a ton of performance mods for the cops so you don’t have to worry when ripping it
@@aidan8860 that’s sweet, I looked for Caprice cop cars too back when I was looking but couldn’t find the right one but that’s something I still look at sometimes, if I found one for a deal and turn it into a SS or G8 GXP or Commodore a piece at a time, I love the looks of a SS with Holden badges and trim, but they’re all $35K +
I have a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT and an Infiniti G35 ….both cars are so fun to drive
I'm looking to get a g37 sedan this year hopefully
@@Daddyops I hope it works out for you, I think you’ll be happy, had mine about a year now and all I’ve done is change the oil and drive the crap out of her, 40 mile one way commute to work and I average 26-28 mpg, depends how many random street (interstate) races I get into and 140-150 mph blasts I do at 2:30 in the morning when I get off work.
Can u pit the chevy ss with the 392 charger
I would like to see this as well. Kinda similar cars, even the 392 is heavier.
6:10 - Love this bit. Thanks for putting it in there editors. Gorgeous. The SS is pretty sweet too. Just sayin.
Geez who would have guessed that when that old Chevys traction control was off and not cutting the engine's horsepower, it easily smoked the brand new hot nissan. The best part is it's about three times more reliable than that Nissan's ever going to be too.
The junk lost to the Q in every run. Plus the q will outlast it by a long shot.
dude why you dont get the rwd q50 redsport is much faster than awd?
IM SAYING
This video really makes me miss my SS. The sleeper aspect of it is next to none. Probably my favorite aspect of owning it was being able to fly under the radar until I step on the go pedal. The LS3 really takes to modification well.
Would love to see an atsv vs 392 charger or redsport infinity
Ats v would destroy. I had one
2nd driver of the Q50 didn't even brake boost off the line and I don't think the first driver was building max boost, which is 2500 rpm. Still interesting to watch though.
And they say traction control doesn't improve speed with it on or off. That's BS! Nice runs!😎👍🏿
I got the poor man's version of the SS. A Caprice. Lol.
I had a cammed SS and its amazing even with it not being modified in stock form is a blast to drive too.
The Q50 VR30 heat soaks pretty easily with the stock HX. Wonder if they let it cool before each pull.
Engines are bullet proof!
great races, what year was the Q50?
2017
If this hasn't been stated:
The SS has a DRAG RACE "launch mode"
You toggle the center know from;
Tour, Sport, Performance...and past that, you can access the DRAG RACE mode.
It's essentially a Line Loc and you can floor the gas pedal, and leave the line @ 4,000 rpm
As the owner of a 2017 SS 6spd Manual Trans car...it leaves HARD at 4,000
Actually Sam- it is a Holden badged as a Chevy. Designed and built in Australia- exported to the US with a Chevvy badge on them.
Did the us get the vf hsv gts or clubsport or only the ss model ??
I see my guy in the SS is from CT. Big ups. My Q50 sliver sport will be tuned soon and won’t be able to be beatin. No Shuh. Lol. But when I’m manual mode the transmission shifts faster on the Q.
Can you do a drag with a first gen jeep grand cherokee srt8?
That is true especially in a v8 muscle car I remember my 1999 ford mustang gt 35th anniversary with engine mods and straight pipe cats delete and some other mods it beat and full bolt ons tune header B20v vtec Acura Integra and I gave him the go but I won by like 5 cars but with control of muscle cars are fast
Can you do a infinity m56 vs scat pack charger?
Great race... that's a holden, right??
Holden Commodore i believe
@@temur72 Chevy SS with a Holden conversion.
@@jimwallace4164
I meant to say the SS is a badge engineered version of the Holden Commodore. The SS was built in Australia by Holden based on the Commodore with minor changes for the US market
Those Holden's used to get smoked all the time by my old is350 2006 Lexus was funny seeing them lose something is wrong with that redsport lol
@@lexman8678 I would say something was wrong with "those Holdens", unless they didn't know they were racing, as they should be around half a second faster to 60 than a 350, now a Isf 500 should have a slight edge.
Thankyou for sharing, very interesting indeed. In both New Zealand and Australia we have both the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS7, L98, & the very last of the LSA engines in both manuels and automatics in the Holden Commodore SS and the HSV's. (RIP).
I have definetly seen that black beauty in central Illinois!? Cannot wait to own one.
Ss vs stinger/g70 please
You will need G70 RWD to stay about even with the Chevy SS in the roll race. G70 AWD is gonna lose.
@@rockefelleragent1357 wrong I had a Toyota Mark X jdm import 300g premium that used to keep right on the bumper of a vf2 SS Holden commodore and that mark x had 250 HP lol

Thank you ;)
Love the SS since I found out about going to work hard to get one
Both cars are my favorites wish I had them in my driveway!!!
I’m sure the 10 speed or 8 speed can be put on the ss right?
The SS is a monster. 👍🏻🇺🇸
I have the VE commodore variant in the G8 gxp with the same LS3 and 6M , what a fun and capable chassis, my mother in law has a ‘16 SS with magride, they are a nice upgrade interior wise from a G8 but I personally like the looks of the G8 better.
No replacement for displacement
Great race!!! (minus the guy sleeping on the line for the one)
Yes - cost me that race. Makes for good RUclips commenter talking points though!
@@jimwallace4164 😂😂
It's not just in Aussie, they are everywhere in New Zealand as well. Plus the Holden Commodore made up the bulk of police vehicles.
I’d love to see the Ghibli SQ4 vs Q50S Red Sport AWD they are both 400hp sedans
What state are you in same i would like you to race my full bolt on lexus gsf on here
I really want an SS but they hold value so well that it's still going to be about 45k or more. WTF 😒
You should do the Chevy Ss vs 2012-14 Chrysler 300 srt8
What about SRT 392/Scatpack Charger vs this Chevy SS? How would that go based on experience?
The scatpack typically takes it every time
@@enzocaine5369 By how many car lengths?
The stock Infiniti turbos seem to die off on the top end, and they need a lot of cooling upgrades to keep the numbers up. Great cars nonetheless. They really wake up with a tune.
Nah, its the transmission.
what turbo or mods do you recommended to keep things from messing up hahaha
@@VictorHernandez-ji9mu what turbo or mods do you recommended to keep things from messing up hahaha
Shame you guys didn't get the HSV W427.
Poor driving reaction times today I must say. Late reaction on the last drag and rolling race the SS was ahead of the RS before the line to go
Yes, I looked at my dash when the flag man dropped his arms. That lack of attention cost me big. I wanted to be in a lower gear during the roll to stay in the powerband, had I accelerated to catch up - the transmission would have upshifted and game over. Hope this context helps mate!
@@jimwallace4164 Thanks for responding and explaining. Appreciated greatly. Next time.
@@HannonBeatz gay
These Infiniti RS were steals before the chip shortage etc. You could go get a 2016 and it looked exactly like the 2022, minus the steering wheel and lights.
Chevy SS😙 a great car!!!
Both fantastic cars that GM failed to sell (surprise surpise)
cts vsport is a hidden gem and stock, is extraordinarily potent.
I would have liked to see RWD vs RWD though that would mean better p/w ratio for the Q50. Great race!
Very true but the RWD is not available in the Canadian market from Infiniti unfortunately. I see the rwd do some pretty amazing stuff on YT
Just gota wait for a 23 z
Where do you live? I would love to come race my tuned Audi A6 vs whatever you think is comparable
Did they ever sell real Holden commodores in Canada??
No
We haven’t seen it up against a charger.. Can y’all do the SS sedan vs the charger rt or scat pack?!
Finally I've been waiting for this video for more than two months already lol 😂
Chevy SS FTW!!!☝️🤙🤙🌬️
Not really out of 4 races SS only won 2 races and Q50 in sport plus mode the driver messed up badly
Nah q50 red sport 400 all day 🔥🔥🔥 #VQGang
The Infiniti was more impressive, less HP, almost as heavy and won 2 races and one in the roll and started behind him in that as well. If he wasnt sleeping, he'd probably have every race.
@@jesseyanvari8873 yep that snooze cost me.
It's actually a Holden with Chevy badges but people swap them back to Holden badges confusing I know but they where all made and designed here in Australia and we put the Chevy motor in them
The Q50/Q60 has never been served well by its 7sp auto. Too bad Nissan never considered developing that motor to run with a ZF8 transmission.
The new Z is getting the Mercedes 9 speed so we are speculating the redesigned Q in a couple years will get it too.
Could u do a video on 4th gen Mitsubishi eclipse gt vs other current N/A v6 cars?.....
Can you please add the year of the vehicle
Love THe Chevy great cars
Looks like the ss was ahead on the roll but didn’t go WOT at the same time as the q50 and instead waited till the q50 caught up and then gassed it so he wouldn’t get such a huge jump
