Thank you for posting this Sam, both Peter and I had an absolute riot that day. Great to see our cars match up so closely (other than the race where I fell asleep?!) For two buddies that don't see each other nearly enough, I cannot stress how much this meant to both of us! We're thrilled to be a part of your channel and I hope your subscribers get the sense of joy we had racing that day. Oh and man the opening footage....our cars look so so good. Races are secondary to the sheer beauty of these two cars.

As a 2016 SS owner those Q50 red sports are no joke!
My car is a manual with cai, 2" long tubes and 3" catted mid-pipes. Tuned it puts down right at 400 to the wheel.
Lined up with one of those and we ran from about 10ish to around 70ish and they were right with me the entire way.
It didn't surprise me that the Q50 did so well in this vid. Especially against the auto SS.
And even though the SS is getting to be slower than a lot of these new TT V6 cars, I really don't care because it sounds AMAZING and there is no V6 made that can compete.

Loved my RedSport 400. Pop a simple piggy back JB4 on it and it REALLY wakes up around town and down low. Will spank the quarter mile in low to mid 12's at 114-115mph. Transmission is a dog around town under normal driving but that's expected. At WOT however, it performs very well and shifts quickly. Pop on the sport exhaust for $500 and it really sounds great. Combined with the JB4 it will scream up front as it pulls in more air and out back with a very subtle G-like tone. Just be sure to go into the hidden menu and turn off the fake sound generator so there's no drone.

So there's quite some things to mention that go unnoticed about the Q50... it was easily noticed by a Q50 enthussiast, but the average owner who just pumps gas and gets oil changes would not know.
The base Q50 and Silver S Q50 is the 300hp model.
The Red S 3.0t is the 400hp model.
But there is more to this other than just power output.
The redsport has more cooling mods in stock form than the regular 3.0. BUT it is inadequate for the racing performed in this video.
    Why?
Well all of the Q50's are water cooled intercoolers.
The front heat exchanger is literally good for about 1 quarter mile hit. Then, it will require about 3 to 5 miles of 55mph driving to bring Charge Air Temps back down to acceptable levels where the car will not pull timing.
This is where having an upgraded heat exchanger helps. But still they are inadequate for back to back pulls.
With a upgraded heat exchanger the temps take just a little bit longer to heat soak.
Also, please keep in mind the Chevy SS is modified. Memory serves me right, the owner had it modified prior to coming back from where he was stationed while in the armed forces (much respect to that).
If the Q50 was even slight modified (heat exchanger, lower downpipe, tune and a flexfuel kit on e30) (less than $2,800)
It would easily trap mid to high 11's from 118mph up to 120mph.
Was nice to see this video and I hope my comment helps yield some more knowledge.

Such a great match up, I’ve always loved the G8/SS/Commodore platform as well as the G35/37-Q50/60 platform. I was looking for a G8 GT or SS when the car market tanked, so I bought a 12 G37 sedan snd love it, especially for $12k. I have to say I’m not surprised but still impressed by the almost 15 year old drivetrain in the SS, LS3 and 6L80 still get it done. Both beautiful cars I’d love to own, but tilted towards SS for its rarity but also massive modding potential.

I got a Chevy caprice which is a cop car made on the g8 platform and is a commodore series 1, I got mine for $10,000 with on 66k miles and it’s a total sleeper once you fix all crap the cops broke. Can’t wait to Holden the car out but it’s basically a cheaper ss with a ls2 6.0 instead of a ls3 but it’s got a ton of performance mods for the cops so you don’t have to worry when ripping it
