+fordrac1ng81 I just picked up my Alchemy Purple Metallic about 2 weeks ago. I was able to get the 6 speed manual. Not much choice of color since I wanted the manual. It is a great car. It has been a long time since I've driven a real car!!! The sound of the exhaust is just awesome.
+Joe Bruce I picked up a manual SLIRHM last month. Had to get it a few states away and have it shipped. The handling on this car is AMAZING! Well worth it!
Yeah I don't know why everyone's talking smack, "oh I could buy a German car for $3000 more and it's worth it" yeah a German car with a i8. This is the ultimate new sleeper.
I actually like that this car doesn't have attitude. Some people might prefer having a car that is quick and comfortable, but doesn't want to tell the world about it. It's an anti-social muscle car. However, a person who really knows their cars will know what it is... a fantastic sleeper.
This car is Australian, but the thing is this car is a head turner over here. Look at the Holden VF Commodore SSV or HSV Gen-F GTS, this car looks epic in Australia
HSV Holdens are so fire. 🔥 Much better looking and a better performance player than the base models. A shame that the aussie moniquer was laid to rest by GM.
That "is" the best part about it - it's a sleeper. Respect it for what it is. There are plenty of cooler looking cars out there that aren't much more, such as the Chrysler 300, but you slap a supercharger on the SS and upgrade some of the engine parts and you have a 5 - 600 hp sleeper. Why drive a cool, sporty-looking car if it doesn't perform like the way it looks? That's why I love sleepers, because the performance contradicts the appearance. And how can you beat the sound of an LS3?
For all the people Saying they don't like American cars, you''re in luck, It's an AUSTRALIAN car. The Holden Commodore. Nothing special about them here, you couldn't throw a brick down a main road without hitting one.
I saw one of these for the first time ever in person yesterday on the road and all my mind went to was "Pontiac G8." It's cool to see they brought that platform back, but at the same time I agree-it almost look's too normal for the untrained eye.
I agree with that, but doesn't that add a little to the sleeper factor. I think thats going to help it sell. Also there is going to be tons of tuning companies making parts to give a more aggressive appearance, as well as more power.
that's because it is one. What this is is the Australian car company, holden's, car the vf commodore, rebranded for america. The VE commodore was the series before this, and it was rebranded in america as the pontiac g8. That being said the engine is american
massni94 I doubt they will ever see the HSV VE/VF R8's :P Not to mention... the vehicle they use in this clip is a Auto... So the fuel use will be higher due to that as the engine is always under some sort of labour in turn using more fuel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_VF_Commodore for those who want to read more about the vehicle in the clip (Australian version by Holden who export to the world until 2017 when production for all Holden badged vehicles will cease production due to poor economics which is real sad for the Australian automotive industry).
Thanks Matt for this awesome review! I traded my 2005 Corvette with the 2014 SS and it is a such an ultimate sleeper car. It is quiet when you drive slow and it roars like the Corvette when you floor the gas :)
That is my exact car and color. I bought it new in 2014, I love it. Best car I’ve ever owned. I get stopped all the time with people saying how cool it is. The cool factor is the sleeper appeal, making it black almost ruins that. Having it understated and then blowing the doors off a Mustang Cobra is what it’s all about.
I live in Adelaide where this car was built. outside factory you can see these cars on one hand with Chevy badges waiting to be exported overseas, and others side are with Holden badges for local Australian!
You are the first Aussie I've seen who actually realized that the SS engine is from the American Corvette. Thank you for not being ignorant, giving credit where it's due, and building a kickass chassis for GM.
jhowe67 lol not really, Holden (Australian GM) was one of the only profitable GM subsidiary's that didn't need a bailout through the GFC. Too bad these wont be around much longer as they are ceasing production after 2017.
Bigpappa, The Gen-F GTS is $88,000USD has an LSA engine and puts out 375rwkw.. The SS Chevy is the exact same as our SSv VF Commodores packed with the LS3 engine (American power plant with an Australian Twist)
The only major gaffe in this review is the reviewers' notion that the SS should look a lot more blingy----Like, "Hey Highway Patrol, chicks, and buddies, ......look at me.....looky, looky....." POINT: The SS already looks like a very competent sports sedan, in the German tradition that you invest most of the effort into the drive train, chassis, brakes, etc. My Chevelle SS 396 looked a lot like any Chevelle with a 283 in it, except the SS insignia and the crossed flags on the side, indicating the big engine under the hood, along with the fake air scoops, and other minor details. Same story with my Impala SS, pre-1970's vintages. Many folks who can afford this SS may appreciate that it DOESN'T look like a boy-toy...... This is a world-class sports sedan for serious drivers...... But if you want the chicks and dudes to drool when you cruise by the local high school, why not simply buy a Corvette??? These reviewers don't seem to understand the "sleeper" concept of sports sedans.....Speak modestly but carry a BIG stick!
Yup, exactly. It's kind of frustrating, not everyone is in to bling-bling and tacky plastic everywhere, like fiat's charger/300. That thing looks gross and drives like trash. The SS is the real deal, it's easily the best new sedan available under $60,000. Also, people, GM offers black trim pieces for the front grill, side vents, fog light bezels, and upper and lower window trim. These are all OEM pieces you can order FROM YOUR DEALER and install them yourself or have the dealer install them. You can also order "black-out" interior trim as well, all from GM. It's not too terribly expensive either. Retail prices for all the parts are like $2,300 and can be had for less than $2,000 online. For such a small price on a great car this isn't a tough decision, if it suits the owner.
Sorry hikeskool but that's where you are wrong not only are they marketed where Max is from but there are also designed and built and have been in production for over 30 years under the name Holden Commodore And have been exporting them since 1998 around the globe. Here is a little history lesson Exports Holden began to export vehicles in 1954, sending the FJ to New Zealand.[159] Exports to New Zealand have continued ever since, but to broaden their export potential, Holden began to cater their Commodore, Monaro and Statesman/Caprice models for both right- and left-hand drive markets. The Middle East is now Holden's largest export market, with the Commodore sold as the Chevrolet Lumina since 1998, and the Statesman since 1999 as the Chevrolet Caprice.[117] Commodores are also sold as the Chevrolet Lumina in Brunei, Fiji and South Africa, and as the Chevrolet Omega in Brazil.[154][160] Pontiac in North America also imported Commodore sedans from 2008 through to 2009 as the G8. Unfortunately, Pontiac went bankrupt in late 2009 and GM had to shut down Pontiac in 2010.[161] The G8's cessation was a consequence of GM's Chapter 11 bankruptcy resulting in the demise of the Pontiac brand.[162] Sales of the Monaro began in 2003 to the Middle East as the Chevrolet Lumina Coupe. Later on that year, a modified version of the Monaro began selling in North America as the Pontiac GTO, and under the Monaro name through Vauxhall dealerships in the United Kingdom. This arrangement continued through to 2005 when the car was discontinued.[163] The long-wheelbase Statesman sales in the Chinese market as the Buick Royaum began in 2005, before being replaced in 2007 by the Statesman-based Buick Park Avenue.[164] Statesman/Caprice exports to South Korea also began in 2005. These Korean models were sold as the Daewoo Statesman, and later as the Daewoo Veritas from 2008.[165] Holden's move into international markets has been profitable; export revenue increased from A$973 million in 1999 to just under $1.3 billion in 2006.[160][166] Since 2011 the WM Caprice has been exported to North America as the Chevrolet Caprice PPV, a version of the Caprice built exclusively for law enforcement in North America sold only to police.[167] Since 2007, the HSV-based Commodore has been exported to the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall VXR8.[168] In 2013, it was announced that exports of the Commodore would resume to North America in the form of the VF Commodore as the Chevrolet SS sedan for the 2014 model year. So frankly if anyone has a opinion on the this vehicle it will be max not that I agree with everything he said as I own one and love it
***** super-swell, I can see copy and paste from Wikipedia is working well for you. No, the SS, as it sits, is NOT marketed in australia, despite being built there. Yes, I am aware that there are multiple vf cars marketed in australia. The SS is not one of them.
I love how well it fits into the sleeper category. I really wouldn't want it to have attitude. I like that that only hint of what this car is really made of is the exhaust note.
Personally, I love the sleeper style for cars. My dream car would be this, or a Golf R because although they are performance/sport cars, their styling doesn't stand out, and makes it a good everyday car. For the rare few who realize what beasts they are under the hood, it becomes a conversation starter and something to bond over.
Just the fact that Chevy is making a car like this in this day and age is a miracle in and of itself. This car will not sell in huge numbers like the Malibu or Impala, but it will become a collector's item in the future. Let's hope this car will stay around to have the Corvette Stingray engine in the future!
jhowe67 With the exception of the engine, everything on this car was designed by. They may start making them in China, but they won't be the same cars.
It will never be a collectors item, By the end of it's release, 2016, there will be millions of these cars, most of them in Australia. These cars are the aussie family saloon, so everyone will have access to it, and it will never be hard to own.
Gary McKoy Are you serious? i comment that there is no mention of the fact that this car is Australian, which is strange as most of these types of shows would say where the car came from, its hardly unusual and not even remotely comparable to the examples you gave before. And after all that, you suggest that i have problems in life to deal with, and that you feel sorry for me? Look son, picking a pointless fight with some person who said something as simple, unprovocative and harmless as my original comment is would suggest that someone else in this argument has problems that they need to deal with.
mloutherback Haha yeah because they're on an outdated Mercedes E-Class suspension, and the old 5-speeds are Mercedes as well. Thats actually how Dodge got past all of their transmission issues like what was found in the Sebring. They just stopped making transmissions at all and used Mercedes lol.
7:25 big difference there between the American and Australian mentality when it comes to car design and what really matters. For an Australian designed car it's what the car can do for you in driving it that matters - an understated almost European look with muscle, not whether it's gangta looking to some turkey looking at it on the street - who cares what they think - it's a good car for the driver and that's it.
So basically, if it looked like the Clubsport HSV Commodores you get in the UK and Australia it would be the exact car Matt wanted it to be. (They have magnetic ride, manual option and a supercharged LS to top it off)
Is that a direct price comparison from AUSD? Because the Aussie's always pay out their arse for these cars in tax, Yanks always get their cars cheaper. Just look at the price of the US Ford Focus ST to the European one, the European one is at least $11k more.
This is the VF Holden commodore SS, Australian built and shipped as a a chevy, chevrolet own Holden. My son has the 6.2 qtr SSV redline, this is the last of the rear wheel drive V8's built in Australia,, good solid car for the price, bi model exhaust as well,
Wouldn't give this car a second glance? Maybe there in California, where even a Ferrari won't turn heads. But everywhere else? Trust me. People will know this car is something special when they see it.
I work at a Chevy dealership, and i get to drive all kinds of cool and fast cars, but this is the only one I would spend money on, I just love the fact that you are caconed in luxury, have sleeper status, fully loaded and in the same time, RWD, LS3 and the noise it makes. What a shame people don't know this car. My dealership currently has the only one on the west coast, in San Diego, and it's still just sitting...
I feel like this is the most underrated sedan of modern times. The sleeper appeal, power, and I do not care what he said about the looks. I love the looks and everything else about the car. I have test driven the SS twice and this would be my sedan of choice. Although I love the G8 it is difficult to find one with low miles nowadays.
Basically an Australian Holden HSV vehicle. Also Vauxhaul in England. The Pontiac GTO was also a re badged Holden Monaro. From the Chev ad: The all-new chevrolet ss Introducing a sophisticated performance sedan with a global pedigree. SS uses a race-tested rear-wheeldrive architecture that is also the foundation of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Australian Holden VF Commodore. The 415-horsepower LS3 V8 is matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The tautly sculpted exterior sets an aggressive tone, and the premium interior provides 5-passenger spaciousness. With advanced safety technologies, intuitive Chevrolet MyLink1 infotainment and an ingenious Automatic Parking Assist system, Chevrolet SS is in a powerful class of one.
No matter how they make it I'm willing to bet most of y'all asking for it won't like it, if they do make it, it will look like a modern car, and nothing like a chevelle it will also have all the bull that comes with modern cars like TCS ABS stability management plastic trim back up camera etc, the only way for a company to make a muscle car these days is to start from the ground up and call it somthing new pretty much, the only exceptons seem to be the camaro challenger and mustang, the new charger however? That gets torn apart dispite being well liked and pretty quick, all because "it has 4 doors"
Needs Moar holden grill and badging! Why didn't you all mention that it is a Holden Commodore? That is the cool factor! It is the only way we get badass holdens into the country.
Because 1) I thought it was so obvious to everyone (you knew, clearly) that it was a holden, that I didn't need to mention it, again, and 2) It's not particularly relevant to the point I was trying to make as to whether or not the SS will work in this country.
cdangelo86...and believe me, no one outside of australia cares. The only people who "care" are the people who truly believe putting all the holden badging on their car makes it special and unique. Yup, it is SO unique when everyone else does the same thing.
Totally agree with everything Matt and Larry said. But I personally think the SS is a great looking car. And with a few modifications, you could turn it into a killer performance sedan. I'd say it was definitely a smart move by GM to produce a car like this again.
The SS is missing the HSV body kit. The LS3 is on the Holden Special Vehicles range. The Commodore styling which the SS has is suited to the 6L V8. The Commodore is a large family car with sports models, not a performance car. The performance variants are the HSV's.
I loved the HSV E Series 3 but the VE design was very dated. HSV managed to keep the car looking great but the head lights were old, interior quality was low and rear end wasnt modern anymore. E1, 2 and 3 were great cars and Gen-F has lived up to and beat expectations in my opinion. VF should have come sooner for Holden but at least VE2 kept selling well. I hope to see LT1 engines, A8 and M7 transmissions and a new exterior for Grange added on a Gen-F Series 2, before we loose Australian cars for good.
I completely disagree with with how it's considered uncool just because it doesn't scream "look at me!" That's one of the coolest things about cars like these; always has been. The first gen Taurus SHO wasn't uncool because it looked so very much like the standard Taurus. It was tremendously cool because it had the growling Yamaha power plant and managed to pull away from stock Mustang GTs for years. It was still a shitty Taurus, sure. But it was unassuming and didn't draw attention except from people that knew about them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the coolest things anybody can do is just be themselves and not care if everybody is looking at them.
illitero im sorry but the taurus sho ABSOLUTELY WAS uncool. it was ugly and FWD.. it was a crap box. the engine was cool. the car. was not. the SS is kinda the same. its like the older chrysler 300 c. boring looking. it just looks like... a car.. nothing special. if i had the money and wanted the same thing. id just buy the pontiac g8. which i think looks way better and will be cheaper, and basically the same car underneath lol.
neverknows best I never said the Taurus part of the SHO was cool, haha. The upgrades that Ford did to little things like the seats made it comfortable, but otherwise it was a nightmare to maintain because of how shit it was. I owned five and had to work on every one of them from suspension to entire engine pulls. I'm with you on the g8 100%. It's a great platform, looks good, and rear wheel drive; I'd be happy with the v6 variant if I could get it haha.
illitero i actually hate most v6's.. and if i wanted a v6 sedan i wouldnt be looking at a gm or even american car lol. but i would certainly look closely at the v8 versions.
@@bduvk5297 lmao, yes bias. the inate human characteristic. its idiocy. then all of humanity is idiocy. the entire idea of "cool" is all bias. negative or positive. your comment makes no sense and suggests you're an idiot.
i think the fact that it looks like any car but has so much performance power in it like that makes it extremely cool, like yep i'm just a modest guy driving a chevy malibu as far as you're concerned... now my tires are skidding like crazy. now i'm just a normal guy in a car again.
I think its important to remember that this is an Australian car moved to America. In Australia this is a Holden VF commodore SS that along with the Ford falcon have been a large part of Australian Driving culture
tomorows bum Holden is actually properly called GM Holden ltd. Holden ia a brand of cars owned by GM which is an american corporation... thus it could be called an "american" car.
The Chevy🇺🇸2013/17 SS (Holden🇦🇺Commodore VF SS-V Redline Series 1 & 2) "SLEEPER" front & rear end can easily still be "AWAKENED" with the Holden🇦🇺2017 HSV🏁GTS-R Gen-F2 body👍🏻kit!!!
I own one of these beasts in black, it is a sleeper and the best car I have ever owned. If you ever get a chance to drive one do it!! You will purchase it promptly. Plus they only made 3500 and only 860 of them in black. A rare car in deed.
I would rather have the guy next to me at the light NOT know I've "got something" then when I laugh at his sorry a$$ at the next light...he may figure it out.
I like this car, i mean the looks of it. I don't really like American cars in general, but i feel like this is like the S4, people will underestimate this until you floor it. I would get in dark charcoal gray with blacked out rims and windows. Idk why i like the front, a lot.
I like it....a lot. It's the perfect sleeper. I mean who really wants to annouce their presence all the time. The sound alone on this SS will get peoples attention though!
I completely agree with you, Matt. This would be sick if it were blacked out. This is going to be a valuable classic in the future, IMO, solely because they won't sell very many of them.
A Pontiac G8 GXP was truly the bargain of a century. Came with a proper 6 speed manual too. This SS is nowhere close. That Chevy badge and front bumper grill are hideous. The G8 looked better with the Pontiac style grill.
nbrigdan Closer to $30K now. I bought mine a year ago for only $28.5K with about 45K miles on it. If you're patient, you can find a good deal on them. I hope to buy another one in a few years so that my wife can drive one too!
I love that this is the ultimate new sleeper. I wanted to buy it for that. When it was first announced in the states the only thing I didn't like was that it only came in an automatic transmission. 2015, they fixed it... In short; GIVE ME NOW!
An Impala SS from 96 would be so cool but where I come from we can’t get it. Hence why we love the Australian made Holden’s or Fords because they give us the sense of an American Muscle car. I’m not part of the rather viscous debate of Ford vs Holden, I love both
as far as this car lacking cool, he says someone looks at you and doesnt think oh he has something. i think thats what makes it awesome. it is so underestimated and thats why i love it
Saw one of these this week as I drove past a Chevy dealer and not for a second did I mistake it for a Malibu. It may not shout "look at me!", but it definitely looks classy.
One of the testers mentioned the SS has a head up display "sort of like a BMW". Pontiac introduced a head up display in the Bonneville back in the 1980's.
except we designed the power plant, drivetrain and transmission............ calling it a holden would be like repaneling a ford with a chevy body and then calling it a chevy. Its kinda still a ford..........
The stealthiness is what makes it cool, it is what the debadge M5 was 20 years ago. The best part is that they don't hold their value, I am gonna get this when they depreciate.
Why didnt America take HSV's instead of a stock standard SS commodore? In Australia these cars come supercharged with better bodykits, 20 inch rims, 4 piston racing brakes developed in v8 supercar racing that shit all over the brembro brakes, better interiors etc
TheSugarbear76 They could have bought the SIDI 3.6 litre alloytech v6 engine versions of these over as well, they get about 8 litres per 100km fuel economy (about 30 miles to the gallon) Heck there are also options to have these cars in both utilities and wagons.
roflcopterkklol Like I said, we're cheap. That sounds like something Ford would do, not Chevy. That would be really awesome if we did get it though. You guys just have to enjoy it enough for the rest us who can't.
TheSugarbear76 Thats the thing GM killed Holden off this year :( Even though Holden is one of the only branches of GM turning a profit all funding was cut and there will never be another Australian made car.
Aww man, that really sucks. Whenever I heard about the Aussie chevy's it was about how much more awesome they were than ours. I'm sorry to hear that their leaving. Is it just the Australian production being shut down, or is the Holden brand dissolving as well?
1:08 of course chevy can't spend money "styling" this car. it's a holden with a chevy badge. chevy has no business with the designs of this car. all they were doing was asking mamaGM, "mum mum, that aussie ride from my brother looks nice. can i sell it in murica please?"
Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus you think that means every GM car design is a product of chevs, holden and buick's brainstorming? you don't know much about GM do you? buick is sitting on their asses using holden and chevy's design while chevy and holden design new cars entirely on their own. for this particular car, holden picked up a dead pontiac model and integrated to their Commodore series calling it Commodore VF SS. if you don't know holden commodore, google it please. chevy has not a thing to do with SS's design. do your own research before assuming everyone else on the internet knows less than you do.
Stanley Li But you're acting like it's not within Chevy's right to use that design. As if Chevy effectively plagiarized the design of the car, when it was well within their rights to use it. Your original comment suggests that Chevy unlawfully stole something from Holden. And why do you think I assume that everyone on the internet knows less than me? I wasn't trying to offend anyone.
Hmm. I don't get why they where so coughed up about what type of car the SS is.. *it's simply just a luxury sport sedan*. Compare it to an S4 which doesn't look all that sporty either.
Should come to Australia and review the ford xr6 turbo, xr8 and new sprint variants of both before production ceases. World class performance in a four door sedan that is relatively cheap
Dose Matt know it's just a Commodore/Holden.....And to answer his question there want be another model as GM pulled the pin on Australia........So did Ford & Toyota.
i had the front wheel drive ss impala a few years ago.. it was fast, smooth and "ok" to drive but, they REALLY NEEDED A REAR WHEEL DRIVE to make a super ride...
I love this car. I like the sleeper appeal. This is the first Chevy I would consider buying seriously.

I saw one of these for the first time ever in person yesterday on the road and all my mind went to was "Pontiac G8."
It's cool to see they brought that platform back, but at the same time I agree-it almost look's too normal for the untrained eye.
I agree with that, but doesn't that add a little to the sleeper factor. I think thats going to help it sell. Also there is going to be tons of tuning companies making parts to give a more aggressive appearance, as well as more power.
^Agreed.
that's because it is one.
What this is is the Australian car company, holden's, car the vf commodore, rebranded for america.

its funny how anyone who hates on a car, owns a car significantly shittier.
What "person" hates this car?
From all us in Australia, You're welcome ;) bread from the VE and VF commodore
and from all of us in the U.S. your welcome that GM funded those.
jhowe67 lol not really, Holden (Australian GM) was one of the only profitable GM subsidiary's that didn't need a bailout through the GFC. Too bad these wont be around much longer as they are ceasing production after 2017.
BIGpappaBOB also thought id mention this car costs around US$73000 in Australia so its kinda puts it into the price range of alot more capable cars
Thank you Aussies for my GTO too lol. Truly awesome car.
***** this is the first time I have heard someone reference something with an LS3 as being similar to a corola. Nice work!

This car isn't marketed where you live so, frankly, your opinion on how well a car is perceived where it's not marketed isn't relevant.
Sorry hikeskool but that's where you are wrong not only are they marketed where Max is from but there are also designed and built and have been in production for over 30 years under the name Holden Commodore And have been exporting them since 1998 around the globe. Here is a little history lesson
Exports
Holden began to export vehicles in 1954, sending the FJ to New Zealand.[159] Exports to New Zealand have continued ever since, but to broaden their export potential, Holden began to cater their Commodore, Monaro and Statesman/Caprice models for both right- and left-hand drive markets. Unfortunately, Pontiac went bankrupt in late 2009 and GM had to shut down Pontiac in 2010.[161] The G8's cessation was a consequence of GM's Chapter 11 bankruptcy resulting in the demise of the Pontiac brand.[162]
Sales of the Monaro began in 2003 to the Middle East as the Chevrolet Lumina Coupe. These Korean models were sold as the Daewoo Statesman, and later as the Daewoo Veritas from 2008.[165] Holden's move into international markets has been profitable; export revenue increased from A$973 million in 1999 to just under $1.3 billion in 2006.[160][166]
Since 2011 the WM Caprice has been exported to North America as the Chevrolet Caprice PPV, a version of the Caprice built exclusively for law enforcement in North America sold only to police.[167] Since 2007, the HSV-based Commodore has been exported to the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall VXR8.[168]
In 2013, it was announced that exports of the Commodore would resume to North America in the form of the VF Commodore as the Chevrolet SS sedan for the 2014 model year.
So frankly if anyone has a opinion on the this vehicle it will be max not that I agree with everything he said as I own one and love it
*****
super-swell, I can see copy and paste from Wikipedia is working well for you.
No, the SS, as it sits, is NOT marketed in australia, despite being built there. Yes, I am aware that there are multiple vf cars marketed in australia. The SS is not one of them.
"Honey can you pick up milk..and a new set of rear tires on the way home? "
Perfect sleeper car though.
Kevin1776 no because you can hear it coming
The hhr ss is a sleeper
I was thinking the same. Get this bad boy in black. Tint the windows. Beast Mode!
Black color
Dark Tinted windows
Smoke Lights on the front and back
Add under-spoiler to the back
change the exhaust
@@ezekielk.3629 black out chrome trim
I love how well it fits into the sleeper category. I really wouldn't want it to have attitude. I like that that only hint of what this car is really made of is the exhaust note.
I've seen 3 in person and they actually stand out and look beautiful.
I agree
Unfortunately Chevy aren't making it, Holden is. And Holden won't be around for long. :(
TheMangasm
and who ownes holden? GM. they will probably just set up shop in china to be made alongside buick.
jhowe67 With the exception of the engine, everything on this car was designed by. They may start making them in China, but they won't be the same cars.
It will never be a collectors item, By the end of it's release, 2016, there will be millions of these cars, most of them in Australia. These cars are the aussie family saloon, so everyone will have access to it, and it will never be hard to own.
Of course there is no mention of the fact that this car is actually Australian...
Gary McKoy
Should everyone be aware of it? Because i doubt most american people watching this show would know.
Gary McKoy
Are you serious? i comment that there is no mention of the fact that this car is Australian, which is strange as most of these types of shows would say where the car came from, its hardly unusual and not even remotely comparable to the examples you gave before.
And after all that, you suggest that i have problems in life to deal with, and that you feel sorry for me? Look son, picking a pointless fight with some person who said something as simple, unprovocative and harmless as my original comment is would suggest that someone else in this argument has problems that they need to deal with.
Just like most people would think that the SRT 300 and Charger are American. They are not.
mloutherback Haha yeah because they're on an outdated Mercedes E-Class suspension, and the old 5-speeds are Mercedes as well.
All my years of watching this video and yesterday I bought myself a Slipstream Blue 2017 with 20k miles! Yes, I smile everytime I put my foot down.
Would you recommend a 2014?
@@grandmastagrimm8773 Get a 2015 or newer so you will have the magnetic ride control feature. It makes all the difference. Great fun
this car is a silent killer and thats why i love it
I like this car. its not flashy but its fast. a true Serial killer in Suit
For you Americans. Feel free to search VF HSV GTS.
The same as your chevy SS but on steriods... and made in australia.
So basically, if it looked like the Clubsport HSV Commodores you get in the UK and Australia it would be the exact car Matt wanted it to be. (They have magnetic ride, manual option and a supercharged LS to top it off)
The HSV GTS would be about 90,000 USD. In other words, the cost of two of these cars.
Is that a direct price comparison from AUSD? Because the Aussie's always pay out their arse for these cars in tax, Yanks always get their cars cheaper. Just look at the price of the US Ford Focus ST to the European one, the European one is at least $11k more.
Yup, that's aud to USD, dingo.
I'd expect it to be a bit cheaper, but yeah they might have a heart attack at the price of a decent one of these.
Fast forward to 2022. These cars are selling for outrageous prices.
i seem a old lady with one i'm like mam do you know your driving a monster lol she goes it is pretty quick 😂
This is the VF Holden commodore SS, Australian built and shipped as a a chevy, chevrolet own Holden. My son has the 6.2 qtr SSV redline, this is the last of the rear wheel drive V8's built in Australia,, good solid car for the price, bi model exhaust as well,
With both Matt and Larry, this is like Everyday Smoking Tire. Something different.
Everyday Smoking Tire. Very nice.
Wouldn't give this car a second glance? Maybe there in California, where even a Ferrari won't turn heads. But everywhere else? Trust me. People will know this car is something special when they see it.
The return of the Q-ship, I want something that troopers and A-holes would never suspect.
Look up vf hsv see how the country where these things were made (Australia) made them look...the hsv's they don't look like sleepers
How did Matt manage to get himself listed TWICE in the credits as cameraman? :)
So this is just an Australian holden commodore
yep
Holden is gm's dealer for Chevrolet.
no its not holden isa brand like opel and vaxhall some of the cars may be the same but u are wrong
JaMziy Toyota pretty sure that Holden is Gm's austrasia dealer.
its not holden make the cars here lol yer ok there just a dealer right and i dont know this and im am Australian
It caught my eye when I heard one fly by
Basically an Australian Holden HSV vehicle. Also Vauxhaul in England. The Pontiac GTO was also a re badged Holden Monaro. From the Chev ad:
The all-new chevrolet ss Introducing a sophisticated performance
sedan with a global pedigree. SS uses a race-tested rear-wheeldrive
architecture that is also the foundation of the Chevrolet
Camaro and the Australian Holden VF Commodore. The
415-horsepower LS3 V8 is matched to a 6-speed automatic
transmission. The tautly sculpted exterior sets an
aggressive tone, and the premium interior provides
5-passenger spaciousness. With advanced safety
technologies, intuitive Chevrolet MyLink1
infotainment
and an ingenious Automatic Parking Assist system,
Chevrolet SS is in a powerful class of one.
I love the fact it turns my head, while other people ignore it. (It and the G8) they are gorgeous, understated, and perfectly engineered.
Come on gm, just give us a new Chevelle already.
or nova SS
+J Smith yes, real muscle cars
Fernie2002 yep seriously a chevelle would be nice
No offense but most Americans don't know (or care) that holden exists.
Because 1) I thought it was so obvious to everyone (you knew, clearly) that it was a holden, that I didn't need to mention it, again, and 2) It's not particularly relevant to the point I was trying to make as to whether or not the SS will work in this country.
hikeskool thats so clearly true as they keep referring to it as an American GM.....#frustrating
cdangelo86...and believe me, no one outside of australia cares. The only people who "care" are the people who truly believe putting all the holden badging on their car makes it special and unique.
Yup, it is SO unique when everyone else does the same thing.
lownotegoat Agree, they should have called it what it is, gives it that limited factor and you know how people want what they cant have.
This is Holden Commodore. They are extremely common here in Australia. Most popular performance sedan in Australia
It's a Chevy SS here in US
+Stephen Solis it's a Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK.
+Huw Robinson I didn't think they had cars with a huge engine like this in the UK due to petrol and insurance costs.
+gman794 this is the only cheap(ish) one. The others are all executive cars AMGs, Audis RS models, jags etc.
re badged in the uk and the u.s so yeah to every one its a holden
Holden🇦🇺2013/17 VF Commodore🔥SS-V🏁Redline (Series I & II)!!!
Totally agree with everything Matt and Larry said. But I personally think the SS is a great looking car. And with a few modifications, you could turn it into a killer performance sedan. I'd say it was definitely a smart move by GM to produce a car like this again.
It's a Holden and the hsv's look a lot better look them up vf hsv's
The SS is missing the HSV body kit. The LS3 is on the Holden Special Vehicles range. The Commodore styling which the SS has is suited to the 6L V8. The Commodore is a large family car with sports models, not a performance car. The performance variants are the HSV's.
the only thing body kits do for you is make people think you live with your parents
Its not so much a body kit as entirely different bumpers, tail lights, side skirts. Google HSV Gen-F Clubsport R8 SV enhanced and hsv Gen-F GTS
***** well :/ luckily the commodore is very easy to modify so you'd be able to push out a lot more than that without breaking the bank :)
Yeah
I think it's the first GM I have ever liked.
i think the fact that it looks like any car but has so much performance power in it like that makes it extremely cool, like yep i'm just a modest guy driving a chevy malibu as far as you're concerned... now my tires are skidding like crazy. now i'm just a normal guy in a car again.
I think its important to remember that this is an Australian car moved to America. In Australia this is a Holden VF commodore SS that along with the Ford falcon have been a large part of Australian Driving culture
As a JDM lover, I must say this car looks really nice for an American car.
zdrux Correction, Australian car, american motor.
dGCyanide49 How is it australian?
This car is a HOLDEN. It has an American motor but the car was designed and built in Australia and imported to America as a Chevrolet SS
tomorows bum Holden is actually properly called GM Holden ltd. Holden ia a brand of cars owned by GM which is an american corporation... thus it could be called an "american" car.
Michelle Uyekawa I could put a chevy badge on an audi and it would be american by that logic.
Chevrolet SS ? American Tribute to Schutzstaffel ?
Original is actually the Australian Holden Commodore VF!
The understating styling is exactly why i would buy one of these. Ultimate factory sleeper
Isnt cool? its a sleeper, that's the definition of cool
A Pontiac G8 GXP was truly the bargain of a century. Came with a proper 6 speed manual too. This SS is nowhere close. That Chevy badge and front bumper grill are hideous. The G8 looked better with the Pontiac style grill.
Too bad it's so hard to get a GXP now, they are still like 40K used!
nbrigdan Closer to $30K now. I bought mine a year ago for only $28.5K with about 45K miles on it. If you're patient, you can find a good deal on them. I hope to buy another one in a few years so that my wife can drive one too!
Isaiah Adams Oh is it a full on GXP? That's a pretty good deal! I've been looking at the low mile ones and they hold their value!
nbrigdan It's all GXP. #1233 out of 1829 made. Love this car.
Isaiah Adams Super cool.
One word - SLEEPER!!!
I love that this is the ultimate new sleeper. I wanted to buy it for that. When it was first announced in the states the only thing I didn't like was that it only came in an automatic transmission. 2015, they fixed it... In short; GIVE ME NOW!
Would rather have a ‘96 impala SS. But this is a legit car too.
An Impala SS from 96 would be so cool but where I come from we can’t get it. Hence why we love the Australian made Holden’s or Fords because they give us the sense of an American Muscle car. I’m not part of the rather viscous debate of Ford vs Holden, I love both
415 HP in a 4 door sedan that looks nice enough to drive to an event. What's the problem?
slushbox.
julienjjj With 6 speeds...
Matt! Come to Australia, Drive the HSV VF Clubsport. You'll swallow your words sir, i guarantee you that.
man I would love to pull up on a street car in this.
This car is probably the modern day counterpart to the Buick Regal T-Type. A plain-Jane version of the Grand National. I still want one.
as far as this car lacking cool, he says someone looks at you and doesnt think oh he has something. i think thats what makes it awesome. it is so underestimated and thats why i love it
Looks very similar to the Holden Commodore from Australia.
That's because it is
Teach your cameraman how to clean lenses
Wait....did one of the guys just say he owned a Volt?!
You just got your man card pulled, pal.
Saw one of these this week as I drove past a Chevy dealer and not for a second did I mistake it for a Malibu. It may not shout "look at me!", but it definitely looks classy.
It may look plain at first glance, but it has subtle touches make it look badass. I like the SS.
Man I love this car
Buy them while you can yanks, cause from 2016 Holden (the people who make it) won't be making cars in Australia any more.
"Middle America chrome wheels" SERIOUSLY. Who wrote that line? Because it is perfect
you're welcome.
love the commentary on this video. especially explaining the time frame for SS nomenclature. hilarious!
One of the testers mentioned the SS has a head up display "sort of like a BMW". Pontiac introduced a head up display in the Bonneville back in the 1980's.
So this guy complains the car doesn't look "cool" enough and he drives a Volt?
The volt at least looks like a volt it has a semi distinctive look.
Dear America,
Your Welcome.....
Regards Australia
Nobody is buying this shitty car so keep your gloating to yourself.
*You're
AUS MODS calm down Aussie Wuss we do muscle beasts the best
except we designed the power plant, drivetrain and transmission............ calling it a holden would be like repaneling a ford with a chevy body and then calling it a chevy. Its kinda still a ford..........
VF Commodore... gorgeous
The stealthiness is what makes it cool, it is what the debadge M5 was 20 years ago. The best part is that they don't hold their value, I am gonna get this when they depreciate.
Commodore body kit,
2016 magnetic ride control, supercharger and manual. This car woukd be gorgeous
Look up VF HSV GTS it's pretty much what you just described
Why didnt America take HSV's instead of a stock standard SS commodore?
In Australia these cars come supercharged with better bodykits, 20 inch rims, 4 piston racing brakes developed in v8 supercar racing that shit all over the brembro brakes, better interiors etc
roflcopterkklol Because we're cheap and bringing the SS over here was a gamble anyway. It would have been wayyy cooler if they had though.
TheSugarbear76 They could have bought the SIDI 3.6 litre alloytech v6 engine versions of these over as well, they get about 8 litres per 100km fuel economy (about 30 miles to the gallon)
Heck there are also options to have these cars in both utilities and wagons.
roflcopterkklol Like I said, we're cheap. That sounds like something Ford would do, not Chevy. That would be really awesome if we did get it though. You guys just have to enjoy it enough for the rest us who can't.
TheSugarbear76 Thats the thing GM killed Holden off this year :(
Even though Holden is one of the only branches of GM turning a profit all funding was cut and there will never be another Australian made car.
Stanley Li You do realize that Holden is part of General Motors, right? Holden, Chevy, and Pontiac have shared bodies and technology for a long time.
Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus shall i somehow apologize for you misunderstanding?
Stanley Li No, but you didn't have to revert to hostility so readily.
Hmm. I don't get why they where so coughed up about what type of car the SS is.. *it's simply just a luxury sport sedan*. Compare it to an S4 which doesn't look all that sporty either.
uh doh thats what ss stands for
Mista 2 its actually means super sport
Should come to Australia and review the ford xr6 turbo, xr8 and new sprint variants of both before production ceases. World class performance in a four door sedan that is relatively cheap
No need to drive a shitty car when we already have these here
Its a holden commodore ss built in australia with an american v8
The only problem with the SRT's is that they are Chrysler....
***** Ferraris are Fiats, too.
Dose Matt know it's just a Commodore/Holden.....And to answer his question there want be another model as GM pulled the pin on Australia........So did Ford & Toyota.
Yes, I do. It's so obvious that it didn't even need saying.
Take the new impala, Give it this power train with RWD. I think that would look a lot better.
Middle america chrome wheels........finally someone who took the words right out of my mouth.
i had the front wheel drive ss impala a few years ago.. it was fast, smooth and "ok" to drive but, they REALLY NEEDED A REAR WHEEL DRIVE to make a super ride...
