I feel like I ruined the pHD lineup with my silver 350Z there at the end of the row 🤣 it's very odd seeing myself in the background. Fun weekend, good driving!
Reducing the caster and the magnitude of negative wheel offset (make it as positive as possible) shall help mitigate the understeer. Go with the widest tire/wheel and the most positive offset allowed by wheel well clearance.
Loving this series! Thanks for letting us tag along on the development of this beast! This might be stuff you're already aware of and working on but, if not, I have some questions and maybe some useful advice on your setup: 1. What are your toe settings like, particularly in the front? It looks like the tie rods steer the front of the knuckles so adding negative camber without touching toe adjustments should provide more toe-out, which is favorable, but it's hard to tell if that's what's going on without looking at the car. If, even with that negative camber, you put it on the alignment rack and still have toe-in up front, I would adjust the tie rods for either zero toe or slight toe-out. That would make the front-end more responsive at turn-in. I like to visualize toe and steering with my hands describing the toe angle as I move them to mimic steering. Which tire scrubs harder as you turn with toe-in vs toe-out, and what effect would that have on the car's rotation? Toe-in scrubs the outside tire harder, creating an understeer yaw moment. Toe-out scrubs the inside tire harder, assisting rotation. (If you're reading this and you have an FF car with LSD, this doesn't apply to you. Toe-in is probably the way to go for you since that outside tire will steer you harder under power, letting you get on throttle earlier.) 2. Have you done anything with sway bars? As long as TCS (and your right foot) can be trusted to keep the rear-end in check on corner exit, a more aggressive setting on the rear sway bar should help the rear tires take on more of the load, freeing up the front to turn in harder before losing grip. Just tread lightly here because too much rear bar can make the car unstable. A rear wing would help immensely to keep it stable at speed, providing you with more aggressive turn-in at low speeds where the wing isn't as active, but more neutral balance at higher speeds. Like you're saying, it might boil down to just approaching the limits of what the car is going to do at that ride height, with those shocks/springs, and on those tires. Alignment and swaybars are cheap though, so it might be worth playing with those before jumping into bigger expenses. Keep up the good work!
I did enjoy the James Deane paddock walk loving the FD and just getting confused at the M2. I wished you had been there to take him out and show him just how good it is all be it ugly!
Great vid, also showing why the M2 is far too heavy in OEM trim (even with your weight mods we're talking Nissan GTR weight). In order not to just murder your front tires (understeer haleluja), I would try to stay out a bit on entry and aiming for the apex with less steering input (maybe even tailgate with some decent left foot braking), sacrificing entry speed, but probably having more exit speed. This will put more stress on your rear tires, for sure but they are wide enough anyways, and would release your fronts from their grip duty, temps might come down a bit. It's all minor bits and pieces but it could help. I was having exactly the same issues with my F87 M2 comp (which is almost 200kg lighter) and it helped a bit (will now receive Team Schirmer hardware to solve it for once and for all), Pirelli Tropheo or even better, Nankang AR1 will definately help a lot, but they are real bitches in the wet, where the Cup2 still allows some decent speed. Great vid, keep up the good work ! Subscirbed !
@@kbtracklaps Hi, well that could be something worth trying, it does work on my F87 witha bit of help of the brakes induced oversteer. (think you call that rotating with the pedal or something.) I use my left foot to do so. Still these are heavy tire eating cars, even the F87 so please do not expect miracles.
Good driving! Seemed like it was all over the place, both under- and oversteering. Any plans for front camber adjustment? Different/wider tires? Otherwise looks like a car with a very good potential.
@@JackieDing86 yeah but I feel bad about that for everyone. I have my issues but its' REALLY rare that I mess up anyone's session. That was a bad one lol.
Maybe Trofeo Rs will work better on corners? One thing I don't like Michelins is they got soft sidewalls(thats the reason Micherlin tyres are lighter than others). Trofoe R is way better for that support you need. Personal opinion.

In order for this car to be a contender and to feel good in the hands of a capable driver....18x11 square with a 315 tire, Full upgraded quality braking system and to shed atleast 150lbs out of the car.
Good enough track car for the novice/Intermediate. I myself would not want to waste anymore money on the car...its too heavy, fighting weight has limitations. Long term it just adds up.....quicklyyyyyyy. But hey, my 2 cents, i strive on sub 3,300lb cars...spoiled should i say.
My S2000 was an awesome little car… but let’s not forget how much mods, efforts, and seat time it took to get it to 1:38.0 at Gingerman, a track that favors lightweight cars. The internet loves to hate, and it’s really easy to hate on the M2, so I understand it. Maybe we’ll change your mind when the M2 gets cooler than a stock car with stickers. Hah
That M2 is so underrated
Keep the good work Jackie. You are doing really well and there is so much room for improvement (aero, coilovers, swaybars, bigger tires, ...)
Love how much you G up the entire team 👏🏽
When friends win, we win.
Great post...enjoying watching the testing 😎
Great video! Car feels soo futuristic inside, quite cool!
the PhD paddock is expanding!! love seeing the circle of support for a great bunch of people :) that M2 rips!

Great video. I can’t wait until the next video to see the improvements.
Sorry, I’m so impatient.
Makes me wonder what the quickest 3800-lb cars are - the ZL1 1LE I suppose? Emulating its setup could be the way!
Jerry's new GT4 is so cool
Would love to see what Jackie could do in an SS 1LE. Plan on picking one up before they stop production
I agree, id much rather have and track that camaro than this M2
You should pick one up and try it! I like those cars, just not enough to pull the trigger on one myself

Still factory pads! Amazing man.
Jackie Ding not on the podium!? What year is this???
2.8 degrees negative camber on stock suspension is impressive
It has camber plates.
We measured after this event, it’s actually ~3.4 degrees with the Millway camber plates maxed out!
Very fun to watch this build i hope it succeeds. But.. Yikes that weight and understeer is pretty significant hurdle to get over
You’d be surprised, wait for the next one!!

You guys measure tyre temps at all?
Tire warmers for the pits is an option?
Why do you have the engine in efficient. Why not sport plus?
does your front left tire get hotter than than the others? I have experienced this on the street in my own g87
At least it's consistent.
About the understeer, were you running the square 305 tire setup? No rubbing?
In this video we were still using the Cup2 Star spec, 275/35/19 and 285/30/20 stagger size!
305s will go on next video. Stay tuned for that one

are we able to see the phd racing fans team sticker on the website?🤣
Maybe bigger tires/wheels, front aero for downforce at speed and a light carbon fiber hood to get some of that weight off the front?
The hood is already aluminum so we’d only maybe take off 5 lbs with a full CF hood… but we have ideas!!

Less weight in the back from the lighter battery could’ve increased your under steer so losing more weight in the front would improve it
