We saw it! It looks like a fairly stock car with minimal suspension and safety modifications to make it suitable for track use. Think of it as a GR86 Cup car or a MX5 Cup car, just slightly faster!
We had the previous generation m2 racing with our team. It didn't have more power as stock when we got it. Just adjustable suspension, cage, and some carbon panels.
I remember going and I didn't even think you would be out on the west coast and then I saw ur car in the paddock and it made me so happy man. Really enjoyed seeing you drive irl for the first time.
neat to see your analysis of the track, couldn't agree more. had a good laugh when you asked for downforce and Alex was like nope you ain't getting that! hope to see you back on the west coast in the future...maybe gridlife will do Sonoma for some real theater.
Costly and frustrating but thanks for providing another data point on the downside / unimportance of stiffer sway bar on multilink suspension. Should be considered only to fine tune setups as a last option. Now more aero!
I can't agree more with the rule changes for the Podium Sprint with literally zero communication. This has happened MULTIPLE TIMES this year with rules being bent or formats changing. It's total chaos for the competitors, those running the livestream, and most of all the people watching. I love Gridlife with all my heart but I REALLY hope they tighten that up next season.
Yeaaaaaa, I share that sentiment. I love Gridlife but sometimes it just feels like it's too loosely regulated. It was fine back in 2018, when most of TA was just glorified HPDE, but now in 2024, with so many ppl putting so much effort and finances into it, it's hard for competitors not to feel hurt or screwed at times.
That corkscrew exit hurt you big time, I think you could've been real close to the 30.6. Looking forward to COTA and being able to utilize all the camber. 🤘
Since it is still a street-ish spec, I suspect it is still mechanical grip>>>aero grip reliant on setup. (in addition to slimmer side walls on modern size tires) From my understanding, aero cars do have stiffer bars to limit floor height fluctuation for stabilization. Im not sure if there is any but having adjustable sway-bar setup could help with the setup in the future.
You're absolutely right, the car is still more mechanical grip than aero in its current state. So making the car excessively stiff with the bars just overall hurts grip. We're still working with Eibach on adjustable sway bars for these cars, but now we know not to go crazy stiff compared to OEM!
I wanted to suggest a few things. I know the car is being developed and many changes are soon to come. Now I know from what BimmerWorld was saying that those H&R’s are very stiff and heavy. And optimizing your setup would definitely need to happen to make car grip and be forgiving (softer spring or something idk). Buy if your looking for more compliance but slightly less roll, may I suggest sway bars from the M4 CSL? Evolve Tuning did the M4 CSL sway bars and front hubs (which have build in camber) and gave excellent reviews. Not many people have done this but I believe they are on to something. Combine that with a CSL steering or Chasssis flash for the diff or trans and so on. And you might see nice result that will mix better with the rest of your mods. Also CSR is coming out and might have some specific parts you could borrow but not much news on that car as of the time I’m making this. Lemme know what you think def would love to brainstorm !
If not done.. Or for sure tried. If the rear sway is adjustable. Set to full soft? Maybe try H&R Front sway bar and oem rear sway bar with stiffer bushings than the rubber factory Sure you will easily get this m2 sorted quickly
a picture says a thousand words they say, if I could send you one picture it would be of Alain Prost in the pits and the team had the F1 car on a precision flat and he patiently sat there as they worked on the F1 cartat
Disconnecting the rear sway is a bad idea, as the unconnected sway bar has a chance of catching on the barrel of the wheels under heavy cornering. Also this would cause significant understeer and I think it would just be a temporary bandaid.
To what extent do you think the handling issues you're having do you think are due to the typical high weight car problems? Need a really stiff suspension setup to manage the weight, which makes it unforgiving at the limit? I've also generally been under the impression that you should get most of your stiffness from springs and shocks and run the smallest swaybars possible that give you the handling balance you want, especially in the rear where having a very stiff bar would make putting the power down harder - seems like that might be shown in your experience with the sway bars here. Changing the shootout rules partway through the season sucks though, feel for ya on that for sure. Great driving in a not ideal scenario!
I don't think it's a weight problem, it's just the sway bars being extra stiff caused more harm than good in this scenario. I think what you mentioned is correct!
The M2 is really heavy. I hope you can find some way within the rules to take more weight out the vehicle. To dial in the suspension and tires I believe you need more data. Try dataloging shock travel and tire temps using infrared sensors over the tires. If you cant measure it you cant improve it.
Very cool! I just bought a sim system and was struggling or am struggling on LS. So I got some pointers from you watching you run it lol. Apparently I need to slow down in a few of the counters. Always good content! edwjohnson83stx.
Just to let you know, BMW have launched an official racing version of the M2. It would be cool to see a comparison between your tuning and theirs.

It's amazing the tires held air. Also amazing that this issue was missed. You could hear it slapping the car.

nice video and great competition overall.
In my opinion a great 4th place, the track seemed not to be easy at all.
just keep going
Heyo! it was dope to meet you there! Hopefully I can get a car together and join everyone on track at some point!
G87 M2 doing G87 M2 things
You need a way to make the 10 increment OEM traction control work again.
Always looking into how to get it back online. It would be an extremely useful tool for sure.
Is the factory TC timing or brake based?
If the bars are an issue, should have tried just unhooking the rear as test.
If you were checking tire temps after runs you would have realised that the camber wasn't optimal.
I was surprised by this. They should have noticed the wear immediately, at least to figure out setup

Friction with rubber that thin only works well if you're not planning on using it twice. ;)

Do you have a rough estimation of how much roll stiffness you have fron the roll bars and how much you have from the springs?

Stock sways for the win
This thing needs a diff controller badly. That's what's making it a bear.
Disconnect the rear sway ? Just for a lap or two?

That would be undriveable. Especially when driving s-turns you would have very snappy behaviour.
I know some of the max attack BRZ/86 guys are huge proponents of no rear sway bar. Would that work for a G87?
Gordon Murray, too
@Shadowboost I think there's enough other factors going on with the t.50 that it's not the best example, but valid point.
