It felt so weird...in positive way. Opening the game, and there's no shop, no coins or points to buy
it felt so nice to grind for it all and not have buy exclusive crap.
i mean... youre wrong... there is both a shop AND coins except you get the coins by playing the game
also there is the dlc stuff, so i only disagree with you on a hair splitting level :P
I think I played too much of the modern games that playing without the battle pass, without daily quests and limited events that it makes the game boring for me as there's no artificial attraction to the game but sometimes playing this game makes me relax. No need to wake up early to miss an event nor do I need to spend too much time to it as I can comeback any time I want and continue to play where I was.
Felt the same way when I booted up Armored Core VI for the first time
When it comes to WH40 k lore, the opening quote hits it on the head:

The writer isn't totally wrong about 40k's politics being bleak, no race/faction are really the good guys in 40k and that's part of what makes it 'Grim Dark' but that's also part of it's appeal. That said Legendary Drops is completely right in that these 'journalists' (and apparently game developers also) refuse to acknowledge or talk about the fact that a lot of gamers criticism is valid but in a 'war' where all gamers have to do to win is not spend money on bad games... Well we all saw what ignoring criticism did to Concord, SSKTJL, Dustborn and Forspoken (just to name a few), considering at the end of the day these companies are out to make money it's unsustainable for them to keep putting out games gamers don't engage with. The only question is how long it will take these companies to act on that fact.
Stupid journalists. Games should not be political they should be solely be about having fun. And fun games make lots of money!
the problem is that game journalists are not gamers. They're failed journalists who ended up in gaming due to their low writing skills. So they try to be activists and political but they're not in the right domain to do that.

The thing is this game does show how insane the world of warhammer is too. It is not like it is glorifying the combo of fascism, dictatorship wrapped in religious extremism or whatever the F the Mechanicus are doing and their complete and utter lack of ethics in the pursuit of science.
We are show courage brotherhood etc... IN AN INSANE WORLD THAT NO ONE wishes to be real!

The game is doing wonders for the community. Both old and new fans alike calling each other “brother” as casually as saying the word “the” and sending the new meat down the rabbit hole that is lore. I’ve been a fan for a few years and my brother never bothered with 40k until his favorite youtubers started playing this game. He asks me any question and I feel like I need to get out a white board to explain each answer I give him. The fact that the only controversy about this game is that it prioritized fun and didn’t bother forcing morals on people isn’t a breath of fresh air, it feels like the noose was taken off. I fucking love this game.
Who is gaming for? It's for people who will pay for games. Game companies would do well to remember that.

Any mention of DEI as part of development of any game/movie/article/story, you can easily assume it will turn out bad. I think we've all seen that play out time and time again.

The ultimate problem in my opinion is that a lot of the people who force a "message" into their game or movie or show or story, are hacks.
The woke stuff is just a way to convince themselves and others that their writing is good and profound and need to be taken seriously. Engaging with it is a bit of a trap because then the conversation gets stuck in the culture war ouroboros and goes nowhere, and no one talks about how the stuff they make is just objectively bad.
Hell they're not even good at the "representation" that they claim to bring, as the general laziness with Yasuke in AC: Shadows shows.
Because they're Hacks. Lazy Hacks who want to feel big and important and profound, without actually really doing anything.
They can't even conceive of you not wanting a self insert, idealized or otherwise. At best, maybe settling for some sort of demographic solidarity for them having the same race, sex, sexual orientation, etc.

Warhammer hasn't been a satire for 30 years. And when it was, it was against Margaret Tatcher, but the studio realised no one in the future would care about this evilest woman in all of Britain.

Also yes, the worldbuilding and story of Warhammer is what makes it clear that it's grim dark... That's how you do it right. Not by shoving it down peoples throats.

Hell, I'm not even against having political, religious or philosophical themes in games or entertainment.
But when I say that, I think of things like Starship Troopers, Star Trek TNG/DS9/Voyager/Enterprise, Dragon Age Origins to Inquisition, The Mass Effect trilogy, Elder Scrolls etcetera.
You can explore such topics in a way that actually conveys a message or even multiple messages or just makes you think.
And doing so without being preachy or essentially shoving propaganda down your throat whilst browbeating you is actually much, much more effective.
And, like I said; it makes you think. It sparks discussion and debate. It makes people ask questions and look for answers.
Which, I think, is the key difference between artists and devs with genuine intentions versus the woke cultist activists in the industry.
The woke cult, much like any cult and religion, doesn't want to to ask questions. They don't want you to think.
They want power and control over you. And if you start picking apart their lies and the fallacies of their argument, their power crumbles to nothing.
And they certainly don't want that.
From christians to muslims to woke cultists; the story is always the same.
They peddle lies, browbeat, bully, shame, infiltrate, usurp, censure and if they can; force you, to accept their Great Lie.
Then they persecute anything resembling free thought, empirical evidence, objectivity, actual science and critical thinking.

It's why I personally dislike people focusing on the woke stuff when talking about SBI. The real problem is that they're bad writers, who only exist and get jobs because the writing position at Devs are now short-term contract positions, and they're willing to work for less and play the "more people will buy your game because of DEI" line.
That's the real reason they wet themselves over the boycotts and steam group, btw. Lower sales show that that line is BS, and the PR/marketing people will ask for them to work for less when they renew their contracts because of that. Or just, not renew the contract.
It is not that you can not have any games that are about politics or morals at all, I mean Fallout New Vegas for example is heavily about politics and morals but it is done very well and is consider one of the best roleplaying games ever made, when it is done well it is no issue at all but not every game has to be about politics or morals, games are meant to be entertaining first, that the reason why peapol play games, to be entertained

Granted, I haven't played a console since the 360 era because the games have been so bad (Exception being the Switch.) But still. Ow... My joints.

While Space Marine 2 is a step in the right direction, there are thousands of other indie games that don't preach morality and politics at you and very few of them have battle passes or "essential" DLC.
Play those. Vote with your wallet. If a game feels "preachy" or disrespectful of your time and money you absolutely should not buy it. Get control of your FOMO and go buy something else. You don't need the latest and greatest, most sparkliest AAA uber experience when you could be having just as much fun (likely more) with a budget indie title.
I stopped buying AAA games sometime in the 2010's and haven't regretted it for a moment. I also stay well away from mainstream games media, because it is nothing more than clickbait and advertising. Every time I (accidentally) open an article from Kotaku I feel like the author just spat in my face and told me it's raining.
I know almost nothing about 40k lore. I didn't even have the game on my wishlist. Bought it the moment I learned it's old school without pattlepass, daily quests and all the other modern bs designed to make you play the game non stop to not fall behind.
Finished the story in one go. Now I'm playing the co-op and I'm loving it. It kinda reminds me the fun i had with mass effect 3 multiplayer.
Daily reminder iGN rated Space Marine 2 lower than Gollem, Space Marine 2 at 60 and Gollem at a 62, I have no idea how games journalists do their jobs anymore, both the industry and infotainment websites such as Kotaku and IGN will only learn once the money is gone and they're forced to liquidate. Space Marine 2 is a result of carefully voting with your wallet and the developers staying loyal to their fans, something Ubisoft is finding out the hard way in a multitude of ways including failing stock and the new Assassins Creed delayed

Another thing to consider is how special finding a unique game that YOU relate to even if a bunch of others don't. Everyone has one game like this! When every single company tried making "unique", "quirky", "minority", etc buzzword characters WITHOUT making them a real human first everything turned to shit. Especially since every company seems to think those buzzwords get better when you slap on as many as possible like you're playing Buzzword Bingo. We can't a funny introvert who just wants to go home after the mission is over, no he has to be autistic mixed bisexual illiterate but also a genius all at the same time and the ONLY way you'll know he's all of these things is because he will remind the player every 5 minutes

The devs through a snip of the lore story, turns out she was part of a rich family or monarchs that only had the first born male be the head of the family, and since (he at the time) couldn't handle that, ran away from the family and transitioned. This is not made up, this is part of her character.
