I have to disagree, Paws is from a country where stuff like Animal planet isn't that big and she said numerous times that she almost never watched TV or other media. What they did was the equivalent of roasting a guy who doesn't know what soccer is for not knowing Messi.
Hi, Paws. First time commenting. I'm sure others have said their piece about Steve Irwin. But if they didn't, he was a consrvaionalist about all animals. He had a TV show on Animal Planet that taught viewers about animals. Similarly to how Casual Geographic does, actually. But he'd get up and personal with them, while being respectful of the animals he was working with. His son, Robert carries on his father's legacy.
I'm honestly shocked no one in chat referred Steve Irwin as the "Crocodile Hunter " since that's what most people know him as instead of his actual name. Feel like maybe Paws might have heard at least of the crocodile hunter from under her rock.
In countries where animals are generally considered a non-threat and even in some where they are, schools rarely even talk about animals, my biology classes definitely went more in depth on how an animal cell works than how any animal in general works, despite one of those things being more useful than the other. And I’m almost certain a school would be less likely to teach anything about an animal only found in a foreign country.
I also don't watch movies or tv but I know Steve Irwin because he was a part of pop culture in the anglosphere, the kind of person you expect everyone to at least know of. That's probably why people were so surprised you didn't know him. But obviously he didn't make the same kind of cultural impact where you grew up so it makes sense.
it's ok if you don't know who Steve Irwin was...he was gone too soon, he taught me more about animals and biology than any science teacher I had and what opened my eyes to it as well.
With pigs, one thing that might partially explain it is that quite a few languages have idioms/sayings about their dirtiness. "Dirty as a pig" and "eating like a pig" is a pair I heard when growing up in Poland, for example.
Steve Irwin was an Aninal Activist who fighting to preserve Animal Species that are growing exinct. That is an short description which suits him in short

Girl, Steve Irwin was one of the reasons I became a nature lover, aside from the likes of the Kratt Brothers, Jeff Corwin, Jack Hannah, Playhouse Disney’s Stanley, and any Usborne book I got my tiny hands on. You gotta try and watch anything from Animal Planet or Discovery Channel w/ him and his family in it (*still-living wife Terri, eldest daughter Bindi, and youngest son/Steve’s exact carbon copy Robert*). They still run a zoo, over in Australia. I vividly remember the early morning I heard the news of his passing on September 4, 2006. I was about a month and a half away from being 10. My mom got me up (*I was homeschooling, at the time*), but when we got to the kitchen/dining room, my dad came from the family room into the living room and told us he’d seen the terrible news. I started bawling my eyes out, like a little baby. I just couldn’t believe it. He was someone I basically idolized for a good chunk of my childhood. I always knew Steve could get himself into some dangerous situations w/ animals and always came out pretty much unscathed. But I just couldn’t believe he’d actually be taken out by one, let alone a stingray. I remember having a Crocodile Hunter-themed cake for my 7th bday and it had good ol’ Steve wrestling a young croc, which also had a button on his back that made him say some of his famous phrases. It genuinely broke my heart when he died. I’m just glad his family and friends are still doing well and continuing his legacy.
There was also a story about a crazed Floridian ex-circus lady who trained squirrels to attack her ex husband. He lost fingers and other nubbins... It was crazy

I remember seeing a debunking video where one magician had to complete a challenge or his assistant would be dunked in a tank of VICIOUS piranhas. The magician almost completed it, and then just sat down and waited for his assistant to get dunked. The piranhas immediately all hid on the other side of the tank. The assistant swam over, they fled again. Wouldn't even touch him. I feel like they look so vicious when they eat because they're desperate to get their meal in before something slightly larger than them spooks them away.

The Crocodile Hunter was one of the most watched shows about animals in the world, inspiring many imitators, launching countless conservation programs, and Steve even voiced a couple characters in movies about animals (like this famous deleted scene in "Happy Feet" ruclips.net/video/uTRoagheoZE/видео.htmlsi=mqtQpgaLCv-o1KV5 ). snakes can be seen as misunderstood. they are usually depicted as mean, aggressive and sneaky reptiles. In reality they are defensive NOT aggressive and they aren't mean just cautious. I mean if you saw a creature 10 times your size at most coming towards you wouldn't you be scared and defensive? Snakes don't tend to envenom humans unless they are seen as a threat or are seen as food and I am certain 90% of snakes don't see humans as food unless they are handled wrong as a pet. Also a surprisingly small amount of snake species out there are the ones who have potent enough venom to actually kill you while most either will make you at most REALLY sick but not kill you or just cause some swelling like a bee sting. Also the unfortunate part about being a snake owner is that apartments and any rent controlled home can be biased against snakes seeing them as a problem pet despite the fact that they cause no damage as long as they are not let loose, leave minimal stink and rarely EVER cause noise disturbances all while being cheap to maintain and feed as pets only with a high initial cost due to the tank and everything else to set up.

22:08 - The Middle East and other hot places apparently. I learned from my high school history teacher that pigs have this trigger in their minds that go off once the temperature is too high. At which point, they become rabid nuisances that eat their own filth. Yea, the poo-poo kind. So imagine them being like that 24/7 because you live in a desert.
Ngl Since I watched Animal Planet & Discovery Channel A LOT as a kid I have a hard time Remembering how much I learned about animals in school or from TV 😅
Personally, I live in an area with Black Widows and Brown Recluses (which I would put a lot of blame on for the bad rap of spiders, Recluse bites cause Necrosis, and Widow bites I think can cause potential nervous system issues or death, but that changes person-to-person. Recluses in particular are the scary ones.
Steve Irwin is an absolute icon he's one of the few conservationists I know that went into an active war zone just so he could save two crocodiles that were being held in a zoo like area that were being horribly abused so badly in fact that the female crocodile had no way of seeing because both of her eyes were poked out by Sticks and Steve Irwin died when most of us were in Middle School . And you didn't read a book about Australia? Steve Irwin Is in over 556 book from Australia
I had pet rats and in hindsight i'm ashamed to admit i treated them worse than they deserved but i loved them, they were such good pets, but i was utterly heart broken when they died... they really got done dirty with their short lifespans
My roommate raises rats to keep as pets, and also supplies me with the ones they don't keep for themselves to feed my pets, ball pythons. I raised rats as pets and feeders until i developed an allergy to them, so now i can really only deal with them for feeding purposes with my snakes. Rats do make good pets though. But their lifespans are only 2-3 years on average, so they don't live very long. They also are far more social than human beings have the time for, so it is ESSENTIAL to get at least two rats, preferably 3 minimum per enclosure. They will poop amd pee on you a lot as well, but they can actually manage to hold it in once they're socialized enough. You can even litter train them. But if you're the type to get REALLY emotionally attached to a pet, they can be a difficult pet to keep, because of their incredibly short lifespan. But they do make better pets than hamsters. Hamsters are MEAN. Snakes get a really bad rep thanks to the media portrayal and fake stories like the "Burmese python sizing its owner up" that people spread like factual gospel. That never happened btw. Pythons are opportunistic eaters. They don't bother to stop and see if they could manage to eat it before they go for the gold. There's no such thing as any species of snake sizing anything up. But I've met people that will argue and never give up on it being a real event, even though it was just a spoof story that went viral on the internet. Basic an early day The Onion kind of article. Truth is, unless they're starving and the person is on the smaller size, snakes just don't try to eat people. And cotton mouths dont chase people, you both just picked the same direction to try to escape in a panic.
I’m glad the memes around stingrays and Steve Irwin eventually kind of “evolved” from their original state of almost “fuck stingrays”, but even then they were still just jokes. No one was going out and “targeting” stingrays quite like they did with sharks after Jaws, which I’m sure gets brought up later in the video given the subject matter Most of the jokes around the Steve Irwin thing kinda just rewrote the first one of a fist over the pool, but nicer and almost “coming to rationality” within the fucking meme They’ll literally be like “… I know it isn’t your fault, or your kind, and he wouldn’t have wanted this..” it’s surprisingly wholesome and somewhat respectful for jokes about punching a fucking stingray in the face 😂
Not knowing every single celebrity is ok, but not even having heard of the biggest names in some of the largest industries is the world is wild. It's the same as how it's ok to not know where any given capital is located as long as you can at least place a country within the correct continent on a world map.
You can react to Steve Irwin next, he's a wholesome guy who loves animals so much he plays with the dangerous ones. He's responsible for the stereotype of Australians wrestling alligators.

Steve Irwin is like Einstein or Batman in the levels of fame. Definitely bigger than Obama or any us president for that matter. I never thought it possible that a person on this earth at the same time as me has never heard of him.
I feel, as a party animal, we are the most misunderstood. There are surprising depths to us, why, i pondered morality for at least three hours earlier....or was that mammaries? Either way i was pondering and thats deep.
There's a reason human meat is sometimes known as "long pork." Also, I'm not afraid of oceanic wildlife so much as I am of the crushing depths of the deep.

Ngl Since I watched Animal Planet & Discovery Channel A LOT as a kid I have a hard time Remembering how much I learned about animals in school or from TV 😅
...Damn... Not knowing Steve? ...I think its time some big RUclipsr makes a Documentary/Biopic thingy about him and someone send it to her.
Like Bobby Bushes mother would say “Dolphins are the Devil”
Just started the video and already I want to play tug-of-war with a vulture lol
Personally, I live in an area with Black Widows and Brown Recluses (which I would put a lot of blame on for the bad rap of spiders, Recluse bites cause Necrosis, and Widow bites I think can cause potential nervous system issues or death, but that changes person-to-person.
Recluses in particular are the scary ones.
23:50 fun? fact: human meat is addictive, so a cannibal is quite literally dependent on eating human meat
A good chunk of my extended family in Poland don't even who Steve Irwin is either.
should definitely look into steve irwin. was an amazing dude
Someone who doesnt know Steve Erwin , INTERESTING 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Its videos like these that make me proud to be taking wildlife management classes in college
Generational trauma that's why spiders are feared because they all can't kill but some can and nobody takes chances
I’m glad the memes around stingrays and Steve Irwin eventually kind of “evolved” from their original state of almost “fuck stingrays”, but even then they were still just jokes. No one was going out and “targeting” stingrays quite like they did with sharks after Jaws, which I’m sure gets brought up later in the video given the subject matter
Most of the jokes around the Steve Irwin thing kinda just rewrote the first one of a fist over the pool, but nicer and almost “coming to rationality” within the fucking meme
They’ll literally be like “… I know it isn’t your fault, or your kind, and he wouldn’t have wanted this..” it’s surprisingly wholesome and somewhat respectful for jokes about punching a fucking stingray in the face 😂
He's responsible for the stereotype of Australians wrestling alligators.
ok paws
to put it simply if at any point you watched animal planet(or discovery channel at times) during the time steve's shows were on,there's ZERO chances you'd not know him
and his shows were LOVED
if i was to describe them in today's terms...he was a vtuber with a irl model doing cool wildlife preservation stuff with animals(that's how loved and also unique his shows were)
man was both a legend and a shining example of a good human, who tried his best to educate people about his passion, and u could tell he loved animals
in short he was as likeable as vtubers like hololive or any of the big vtubers are today
Steve Irwin is like Einstein or Batman in the levels of fame. Definitely bigger than Obama or any us president for that matter.
I never thought it possible that a person on this earth at the same time as me has never heard of him.
It's always funny to hear people peeing on jellyfish stings
ya, took ages to get it debunked 😅
@@pawsvtuber 🤣🤣🤣
I never learned about pirannas in school i dont think.
You should definitely react to Steve Irwin next.
I miss watching crocodile hunter R.I.P Steve Irwin.
12:15 Paws Español? Let's go!!
Also, Millennials and up tend to not watch much Linear TV, so it's understandable that you don't know Steve.
god damn it 10 seconds in and I've already been called out.
I feel, as a party animal, we are the most misunderstood. There are surprising depths to us, why, i pondered morality for at least three hours earlier....or was that mammaries? Either way i was pondering and thats deep.
Im just afraid of water I can't walk in, makes me feel unsafe
There's a reason human meat is sometimes known as "long pork."
Also, I'm not afraid of oceanic wildlife so much as I am of the crushing depths of the deep.
To be fair the only reason i have ever heard of steve erwin is casual geographic
love how the tails and ears swoosh and wiggle
I have one spider above me in the corner of the room. In the net it has like 10-20 fruit flies.
I did have a fruit fly problem years ago. I no longer see any fruit flies flying around. Free fly trap ftw. The spider never bothers me.
Symbiotic relationship. Imagine making a spider a little frame to weave their web on and hang it like a dream catcher.
18:12 imagine if that was the same elephant 🤣
Steve Erwin should be one of many people that people should remember even if they live under a rock. Cause you like going under rocks and finding snakes.
Well now we have to make her watch the crocodile hunter
I mean to be fair to Paws, Steve Irwin has been dead for almost 20 years
11:17
...well, I mean, since you asked.... Hey Paws? Do you know Sebastian Stan? 🤣
Also, good job on recovering from your world view getting repeatedly shattered with the Squirrels.
I mean people knew who Steve Irwin was mostly in the Anglo sphere. I live in b### f### nowhere Scandinavia and I don’t think anyone one in mine nor the neighboring villages has a clue on who he is either. I only knew thanks previous videos on RUclips…
Steve was a legend 😢
Haven't you ever watch animal planet as a kid growing up? are you born after 2000 then. you should check him out and do a react video
Animal Planet came to my country in 1998 and you probably had to opt into the package that had it for extra cost. I don't remember watching it, but I also didn't spend a lot of time watching things on TV growing up.
Oh yeah, the ocean is scary as shit and jellyfishes being the main thing making me anxious when at the beach, specially with global warming making them multiply faster and sea pollution killing turtles, one of their only real predators, they're literally becoming a plague
Poor paw the squirrel facts
