I think you mean in general. Like a scene at the end of Prisoner of azkaban when percy graduates. That would have been the only one they needed to show since Fred and George dropped out and so did the trio
I think its because if everyone started saying Voldemort, his followers would not be able to get to the people because of the large amount of people saying his name.
We have no evidence that he had the taboo in the 1rst wizarding war. If it was the case, why didn’t he place it in HBP? And if he did, that actually makes dumbledore even more understandable: the taboo only works if few people use it (a taboo on the word « bread » wouldn’t work for that reason: too many people would use it at the same time).
The Taboo curse was used during the SECOND wizarding war, not the first. So Dumbledore didn't endanger anyone by saying the name and encouraging others to do the same.
I personally thought the reason was: If many people say his name the death eaters would be confused on where to go first. What i mean is that since many people are saying his name then many locations will be located therefore they will not know where to search first. THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION
@@grantwalter2243 but there are also millions of people in the wizarding world, aren't there? And you can't expect death eaters to go alone in every location.
Great job dude! Dumbledore told all of the Hogwarts students Voldys true name. "Once there was a young man, who like you, sat in this very hall, walked this castle's corridors, slept under its roofs. He seemed to all the world a student like any other. His name: Tom Riddle. Today, of course, he's known all over the world by another name....."
At 1:27, you say, "Because Tom was conceived via a love potion, he was incapable of feeling certain emotions, like love, and this was ultimately one of the main reasons that he went down the path that he did." This was an intriguing thought that I'd never heard mentioned before, so I went looking to see whether Rowling had said this. I found a transcript of where she mentioned Voldemort's connection to being conceived with a love potion: Q: How much does the fact that Voldemort was conceived under a love potion have to do with his non-ability to understand love? Is it more symbolic? A: It was a symbolic way of showing that he came from a loveless union - but of course, everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him. I think it's more fitting to say, "Because Tom came from a loveless union and was cast aside to be raised without the love of a family, he was unfamiliar with certain emotions, like love, and this was ultimately one of the main reasons that he went down the path that he did." I think concentrating on the potion makes it seem like he was bad because of magic, rather than the very real-life reason that he simply wasn't loved, which ties into the message at the core of the series: Love is powerful.
I assumed that Voldemort's name was not Tabooed until the 7th book anyway. I'm sure one of the death eaters came up with the idea when they were trying to catch members of the Order and muggle born's on the run.
Could it also be that there are two ways of getting around the Taboo on his name? 1) Don't say the name at all (the option everyone else chose) 2) Annoy/overwhelm/capture the Death Eaters - if everyone in wizarding Britain said Voldemort three times at midday every day, the Death Eaters or Snatchers wouldn't be able to be everywhere at once. Or a group of twenty people could get together, say Voldemort, and ambush any Death Eaters who appeared. (The option Dumbledore was trying to make popular) Just a thought.
If you really wanted to drive him nuts, just call him "Tom". "There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it", It was Quirrell quoting Voldemort to Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised.
“There is no good and evil. There is only power... and those too weak to seek it...” Professor Quirinius Quirrell in “Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone”!
Would love to see a vid on what happened to Professor Sprout after the battle of Hogwarts????? Till then I leave you with this quote " It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to our enemies but even more so to our friends." 🧙♂️🦉⚡🏰
I believe Voldemort said your outro quote. What he means is that good and evil are subjective, which is a common thing among villains. They believe they are in the right. Unless they are completely and absolutely evil and just dont care, then that is something that is absolute.
hey can you make a video on how dumbledore died i know this topic might sound silly but it is not ,in the order of the pheonix belletrix said to cast a unforgivable curse you really got to mean it then for snape to kill dumbledore he really needs to mean avada kedavera i just want to know how he pulled it of
'There is no good or evil....there is only power and those too weak to seek it' Simply Voldemort wanted three things, immortality, power, and aloofness from others.
Just had this odd thought this morning. What did the Dursleys do after Harry was picked up by Hagrid? They were on a rock out at sea and Hagrid made off with their boat. Maybe the ministry arranged to get them home? Or did they wait until they saw another boat passing and hitched a lift? x
I don't think the Taboo for Voldy's name was active during the First Wizarding War. Wasn't it only something they managed to activate once they got control of the Ministry?
I'm not sure the taboo curse was around during Voldemort's first rise to power. My understanding was that this was only during the 7th book, because Voldemort knew the Order of The Phoenix is more likely to say his name (inc Harry) and he cast this as it would make it easier to find them and round them up. I'm sure there's a dialogue about this in the 7th book.
They only put the Taboo after Dumbledore's death, there point was to catch order members, at the start of the first war everyone would use it so a taboo would be useless, and Voldemort didn't want to spill magical blood
The taboo curse also gets rid of any and all protective enchantments, that is how the charms failed. Also, should Voldemort return, people saying his name would summon him/ death eaters and so people would know he was back
Speaking as a ravenclaw myself, i think it would be sick if actually Rowena (Genius goth mommy) Ravenclaw, was the one who convinced slytherin to keep a basilisk in the chamber, knowing that its venom would be one of the only things to destroy something like a horcrux, which would be one of the oldest darkest magics to be invented. Just in case they should ever need something that destructive, and kept in salazars own basement.
Voldemort: I don't like the name Tom because it reminds me of my father, I'm changing it to Voldemort instead. Also Voldemort: I CAST A TABOO CURSE SO THAT NOONE CAN SAY MY NEW NAME
Also first time I've heard this... It's HP Theory after all, I guess.. Or is it anywhere in the books? (The connection to the capability of feeling love?)
It was said by JK, voldemort couldn't feel love, not because of a love potion, but for the absence of love and caring throughout his childhood at the orphanage
Voldemort said that to Harry in the philosopher 's stone. I very much enjoyed this video, and your explanation of why Dumbledore used Voldemort 's name made very good sense.
also the more people use it, they harder it is for death eathers etc to track down one person. it if everyone in a room said it at once, it would act like a rader jammer of sorts
I believe that he asked people to say Voldemort's name as a way to protect Harry. Dumbledore already knew that Voldemort would return to a body and power and want to kill Harry. So if all the people would say Voldemort's name it would be difficult for death eaters and snatchers to track Harry. Since Harry most of the times used his name, Voldemort knew that only Harry or one of his friends would have said his name so it was easier to catch him.
Video idea: Why was the public informed about Horcruxes after the Battle of Hogwarts? Horcruxes used to be a secret. Even the talented Tom Riddle with access to the Restricted Section of the library couldn't figure them out without Slughorn. So keeping info about them secret was an obstacle for dark wizards. Why destroy this obstacle?
Every source I've checked says that Voldemort first killed Myrtle, then his father. As to the main point of the video, there's zero evidence that the Taboo existed during the first war. The ministry wasn't under Voldemort's control at the time, and members of the Order were confused and surprised when it was implemented in DH. Lupin Had no clue how the trio were tracked to a muggle cafe right after escaping the Burrow, and he was a member of the Order in both wars. Kingsley was nearly captured because he didn't know about it.
So why did Harry suddenly use his real name at the end? "you don't learn from your mistakes riddle, do you?" "You dare?" "I know things you don't know Tom Riddle."
I don't think people were scared of saying his name because of the taboo. While it's obvious he was pleased that people were scared of his name, I don't think Voldemort would be the type to deliberately stop people from using it, considering how proud of it he was (when you say he "didn't like his name" it sounds like you mean he didn't like the name Voldemort, which is very untrue- it was Tom Riddle he didn't like). I think people must have just become so scared of him that his name provoked fear, until only those who were serious about standing up to him, ie The Order of the Phoenix, actually used the name. Then he placed a taboo on the name to help find Order members, because the Death Eaters were always hunting and trying to get rid of them.
I don't think the Taboo was put into place until the events of the Deathly Hallows - and I think it was done _specifically_ to combat Dumbeldore's actions to reduce the fear of the name. In the end, with Voldemort wishing to become the most powerful sorcerer in the world - in a world with not just regular humans but also other witches and wizards - where he is an undying figure who will live and rule forever...what essentially does Voldemort desire to be? ...a God. In the old Hebrew Traditions saying the name of a prominent supernatural figure was actually an incantation that would summon that figure to you - because they can hear you from wherever they are. It's why the third commandment says, "Do not take the name of God in-vain." Because saying the name of God was believed to summon God to your location, and if you called him for no reason, he'd be pissed. It was all about creating fear of the idea of saying the name...mainly because they didn't want people saying the name willy-nilly and realizing that it had literally no effect. So I think that the Taboo as well as the fear of Voldemort's name to begin with, was based on that concept. They wanted to create the idea that the name itself was... _cursed?_ Maybe a jinx that would mark you and draw Voldemort to your location - like saying "Candyman" five times in a mirror. So it made people afraid to even mention him because they didn't want to draw his attention to them. Dumbledore, for years was telling people to not be afraid of him but to instead stand up to him, challenge him. Sure if Voldemort was still in-power, this could potentially be seen as them risking their lives - but surely over time, people would realize that if they said his name and _nothing happened_ they would eventually feel safer in saying the name. However, Dumbledore's influence only reached as far as the Order of the Phoenix or others who were _against_ Voldemort. So therefore, the only people who had the brass to say the name out-loud, would be his enemies. So it would stand to reason, if they _actually_ enacted a Taboo on it that could summon Death Eaters to whichever location, it would only result in them killing or capturing his enemies. Part of me thinks that Voldemort could only accomplish this _after_ the Ministry was taken-over however. Because I think that placing a Taboo on a word would have to be something that would require more than one or even a handful of wizards to do. It seems like a Magical Law that had to be put in-place.
Did Dumbledore know about Voldemort's horcruxes prior to the events in the chamber of secrets? I'm sure he might have suspected it but I don't think he knew definitively
I feel the need to clarify that the taboo curse was ONLY in place after Voldemort took over following Dumbledore's death. It wasn't in force throughout the first wizarding war or while harry was in school. It was pure fear throughout all this time. Voldemort only made a practical use out of the courage of the Order and Dumbledore's army who would be the very few people to say Voldemort out loud. These were the people Voldemort was hunting so it was just practical
Was looking for this comment; I'm surprised more people didn't catch the mistake. I thought it was made pretty clear in the books that the taboo on saying "Voldemort" was a recent thing after the Ministry was taken over.
@@wunderlichx Thank you! I really thought it was obvious but I've seen this mistake on a few channels here on RUclips now so it must just be something that's caught on...

If everyone was saying voldemorts name, it would make the taboo void. It must have given him a high to know that after all the years that had passed the taboo still worked as he wanted. To find people who opposed him. If his name was commonplace, it would be sending too many signals and wouldn't have worked.
For some reason I thought the taboo curse was new for the second wizarding world war. I can’t back that up with where I go it lol. I just feel like The Deathly Hallows talked about it like it was new. I always figured there was no taboo in the first war, so people honestly just said the name because they were afraid. Maybe not.
It's still amazing that Voldemort is unable to love because he was conceived via a Love potion. His father didn't really love his mother and abandoned her eventually. A troubled child grew up to be such a monster...because he can't love

edit: I've never had this many likes before and most of all never had a chanel comment on my comment! Lamo
And i mean like why didnt jkw put the graduation in any other move/book to tell how the graduation was done.
I just made a video on this: ruclips.net/video/H3OmqRGU8Qk/видео.html
Yeah, he made a video, and besides, Harry, and Ron did not finish their last year on Hogwarts
I think you mean in general. Like a scene at the end of Prisoner of azkaban when percy graduates. That would have been the only one they needed to show since Fred and George dropped out and so did the trio
It's weird after all these years I never thought about this.
Also we don’t have graduation in the U.K. other than from University

Hey harry potter theory are you going to give the most intelligent harry potter characters video tomorrow or next week?

dumbledore, hermione, snape, lily? Rowena, Ollivander? not in order btw.

I think its because if everyone started saying Voldemort, his followers would not be able to get to the people because of the large amount of people saying his name.
A great moment that illustrated this was just how taken aback Bellatrix was when Harry used his name without fear during The Order Of The Phoenix
I personally thought the reason was:
If many people say his name the death eaters would be confused on where to go first.
What i mean is that since many people are saying his name then many locations will be located therefore they will not know where to search first.
THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION
I think it’s a sound theory
bruh they can teleport. Also Voldemort has millions of followers.
@@grantwalter2243 but there are also millions of people in the wizarding world, aren't there?
And you can't expect death eaters to go alone in every location.
Anyway the taboo was only put in the second wizarding war
Because fear of a name only increases the fear of the person itself
- Hermione
That’s a Dumbledore line
I think the short answer is that dumbledore didn’t want people to fear even saying his name which is what Voldemort wanted
I really like your videos and I hope you would upload more.
At 1:27, you say, "Because Tom was conceived via a love potion, he was incapable of feeling certain emotions, like love, and this was ultimately one of the main reasons that he went down the path that he did."
This was an intriguing thought that I'd never heard mentioned before, so I went looking to see whether Rowling had said this. I found a transcript of where she mentioned Voldemort's connection to being conceived with a love potion:
Q: How much does the fact that Voldemort was conceived under a love potion have to do with his non-ability to understand love? Is it more symbolic?
A: It was a symbolic way of showing that he came from a loveless union - but of course, everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him.
I think it's more fitting to say, "Because Tom came from a loveless union and was cast aside to be raised without the love of a family, he was unfamiliar with certain emotions, like love, and this was ultimately one of the main reasons that he went down the path that he did."
I think concentrating on the potion makes it seem like he was bad because of magic, rather than the very real-life reason that he simply wasn't loved, which ties into the message at the core of the series: Love is powerful.
"Fear of a name only increases the fear of itself."
This was what Harry Potter Theory tried to explain in an 8 minutes' long video
This is a brilliant video. Thank you.
I assumed that Voldemort's name was not Tabooed until the 7th book anyway. I'm sure one of the death eaters came up with the idea when they were trying to catch members of the Order and muggle born's on the run.
Plus something that widespread probably needed the resources of the Ministry to enact, so they needed control of that first.
Could it also be that there are two ways of getting around the Taboo on his name?
1) Don't say the name at all (the option everyone else chose)
2) Annoy/overwhelm/capture the Death Eaters - if everyone in wizarding Britain said Voldemort three times at midday every day, the Death Eaters or Snatchers wouldn't be able to be everywhere at once. Or a group of twenty people could get together, say Voldemort, and ambush any Death Eaters who appeared. (The option Dumbledore was trying to make popular)
Just a thought.
If you really wanted to drive him nuts, just call him "Tom".
"There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it", It was Quirrell quoting Voldemort to Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised.
“There is no good and evil. There is only power... and those too weak to seek it...”
Professor Quirinius Quirrell in “Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone”!
At least that’s how it is in the book
Haven’t watched it but loved it already!💗
Would love to see a vid on what happened to Professor Sprout after the battle of Hogwarts????? Till then I leave you with this quote " It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to our enemies but even more so to our friends." 🧙♂️🦉⚡🏰
Tom Riddle said that line to Hairy at the end of the sorcerers stone. While he was in his weekend form during Harry’s first year at school
Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself
I believe Voldemort said your outro quote. What he means is that good and evil are subjective, which is a common thing among villains. They believe they are in the right. Unless they are completely and absolutely evil and just dont care, then that is something that is absolute.
hey can you make a video on how dumbledore died i know this topic might sound silly but it is not ,in the order of the pheonix belletrix said to cast a unforgivable curse you really got to mean it
then for snape to kill dumbledore he really needs to mean avada kedavera i just want to know how he pulled it of
the dialogue in the end was said by lord voldemort in philosopher's stone to harry potter
The riddle at the end : voldemort in the philosopher's stone
In between many ads was a video, some parts seemed good but too hard to watch . . . 4 ads in 8 minutes? Ridiculous.
'There is no good or evil....there is only power and those too weak to seek it' Simply Voldemort wanted three things, immortality, power, and aloofness from others.
Very good video 🙏👍☕️📚🪄
Keep it up

This is an epic video. But does anyone know the name of the background music?
They only put the Taboo after Dumbledore's death, there point was to catch order members, at the start of the first war everyone would use it so a taboo would be useless, and Voldemort didn't want to spill magical blood
What music is this playing in the background? I see the artists name in the info, but no title
Goth mommy?
You have issues bud.
Keep up the great videos
Voldemort: I don't like the name Tom because it reminds me of my father, I'm changing it to Voldemort instead.
Also Voldemort: I CAST A TABOO CURSE SO THAT NOONE CAN SAY MY NEW NAME
Actually JK Rowling said that the fact voldemort could not feel love is symbolic not because he was conceived under a love potion. 😊
so, he was conceived under a LOVE potion and could not feel LOVE
Also first time I've heard this... It's HP Theory after all, I guess..
Or is it anywhere in the books? (The connection to the capability of feeling love?)
It was said by JK, voldemort couldn't feel love, not because of a love potion, but for the absence of love and caring throughout his childhood at the orphanage
You say the name? Good. You know what this video is about.

@@LangThoughts Cringe
Correction:
Voldemort in french is Steal of Death, not Flight of Death. Both translations are right but Steal makes more sense in this context.
Ending quote is voldemort on the back of quirrells head in the philosophers stone
Love your vids
Love the awesome videos
Didn't realize the taboo curse was used during the first Wizarding War. Only thought it came into play during the second.
Love ur vids!!!
So why did Harry suddenly use his real name at the end?
"you don't learn from your mistakes riddle, do you?"
"You dare?"
"I know things you don't know Tom Riddle."
It’s probably to show that Voldemort is now mortal because Harry called him that after the horcruxes were destroyed
can you please do a video on what transfiguration entails? like i get the basiucs but i want to know more!
It's why the third commandment says, "Do not take the name of God in-vain."
Because saying the name of God was believed to summon God to your location, and if you called him for no reason, he'd be pissed.

Love the videos! Keep them coming. Does anyone know if the characters are based off any other characters; fiction or non? I could see Dumbledore being based off someone like Einstein.
I’d also imagine it would get really tough to act on the taboo curse when everyone is sayin his name
A troubled child grew up to be such a monster...because he can't love
i dont really understand- u said it was amazing then said all the reasons he couldn't
Fear the name only increases fear in the thing itself.
Video suggestion, How did Voldemort know Dumbledore had the elder wand?
