Is the exhaust a full system? When fitting the new exhaust did you have to remove and reinstall the O2 sensor? Normally that kind of error is cause by a faulty O2 sensor or it could also be a slight blow is sucking in air when on idle, this will read as higher oxygen than expected, giving the fault. Check the headers and gaskets are seated correctly.
Will do, best laugh is you would think Honda would have thought of that as they fit it 😂
Exaust and emissions controls have been tightened up a lot with the latest Euro 5 regulations. E.g. midpipes welded to the cat to prevent replacement. Its probably related to emissions in some way and a result of the aftermarket exhaust. But I'm guessing.
That was my initial thoughts, time will tell 👍🏻
Hopefully it is just a blip Andrew. Safe riding out there.
I’m sure we will get sorted, bike running great 👍🏻
I had this at 100 miles. On some early imports the ecu was programmed for the far east fuel which apparently because of the hotter climate is a different grade to uk petrol the bike thinks it’s getting bad fuel. My ecu was flashed at the 600 mile service and it’s been fine ever since
Thanks for that, I’ll see if it comes back on again but that’s useful information if it does 👍🏻
I flashed my bike and it wasnt impressed 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
@@robvanduren761 and the prize goes to.. 🤣🤣
How did they clear the fault? Handy to know if mine gets the same fault. Thanks.
The Honda dealership did it, I’d take it in if you did get light coming on, just in case there’s a problem under warranty
Mine came on when I fitted a scorpion on my cb500x. I didn’t use it for a couple of weeks and it reset itself and has never come back on .
Fingers crossed then, it does sound like it could be the aftermarket exhaust causing a glitch
MrFish had the same issue with his NX500 after fitting an aftermarket exhaust. He got it reset and hasn't had it pop up since
@@Jimbobs_Adventures I’m just on different thread with him and although initially okay it’s now happened a third time.. he’s into dealers tomorrow and going down the warranty route with Honda… going to update me tomorrow 👍🏻
If the fater market exhaust is is not sealed where it is connectet to the bicke then you might get problems. Hopes it get solved.
One way or another it will, sounds like it’s exhaust related 👍🏻
I wonder if this is to do with the NX500 being a Euro 5a machine.
Could be, should find out over a bit of time
try disconnect the negative terminal of the battery? then a few sec ot will reset maybe
Already reset with Honda but I’ll keep that in mind I do happens again 👍🏻
Glad all's well, would be nice if we could read the fault codes ourself on the computer screen connected to the bike!
Yes, was thinking that myself.. would be handy
Hi - Can you please tell me the diameter of the bar which held your GPS, i am buying a GMS mount and would appreciate if you let me bar diameter. Thank you
@@Chris-un4jn 12mm Chris, but you can use spacers if using RAM mounts and slightly too big or even just a strip of rubber
@@thecampingbiker791 Thank you, i live in Australia and have ordered an NX500, unfortunately they were due for release in June 2024, however due to some unknown production issue, the release date was pushed back until Sept 2024, so i have to wait. The bike has fantastic reviews in England & India, so i hope the wait is worth it, i am looking forward to it. Appreciate yr fast response, i have ordered a GPS mount and wanted to make sure the 12mm bar was correct, thankyou.
@@Chris-un4jn no problem and well worth the wait! The problem is worldwide and i believe relates to a problem with an electronics supplier to the industry.. we have delays here in UK until end of year
I had the same issue on my new triumph 400x. Took it in. They reprogrammed the software. It's fine so far.
@@joewilliams5396 fingers crossed for mine 👍🏻
I have the same bike, same exhaust and same issue. I reset it using an adapter and OBD2 reader and it just comes back after a 100 miles or so. Get the same O2 sensor fault code P0139 (Slow Response) and P0420 (efficiency below threshold). Dealership said it was the aftermarket exhaust and strict Euro5+ causing the repeated engine light. I’m just living with it to be honest. If I ever sell it, I’ll just put the stock exhaust back on.
@@MrWillith87 interesting feedback, there seems a few having same issue!
Jesus, I thought I had written this reply! Snap
@@stevex11sdw yep, seems there’s a problem 😬
@@stevex11sdw yep, seems there’s a problem 😬
So was the db killer inner out at this point I wonder? I’ve asked Scorpion via Facebook and will be interested to see their response if any?
it cant possibly be the after market exhaust installation when were talking about an O2 sensor, THE BIKE MUST HAVE A PROBLEM 😂 cool looking footpegs tho
Thanks for that, we will see over time if it comes back on and then leave it to Honda to sort out! Yes, nice aren’t they, original RR pegs but I bought 2nd hand and recently powder coated them 👍🏻
Refit the stock exhaust and see if the fault goes away?
@@glenmayepete I’m going to wait and see if it comes back on, which I’m suspecting it will, then see dealerships response at that point.. then if we hit the brick wall get them to swop exhaust over 👍🏻
Normally you should have the ecu tuned when modding engine components.
@@MAXED-TRUCKING you’re probably right but the previous 500X had aftermarket with no issue over 4 years, and I think many people fit them without tuning and without issue.. I’ll report back when get more info and resolution, also keeping close touch with others experiencing same 👍🏻
Was this sorted in the end for you mate?
@@skydart60 1k miles on it’s not happened again but has for others! I’ve also had someone tell me they have the same problem but with original exhaust! I think it’s going to take time before we get a confirmed position.. meanwhile I’ll just pile the miles on
Thanks mate.
saves me buying an aftermarket exhaust... was gonna be one of the last things I do to it anyway... after crash-bars, luggage and a clip-on windscreen extender.
@@adam346 yes, I’d hold off for now until we know more.. eventually we’ll have an answer to it but going to take time 👍🏻
If the Scorpion exhaust does not meet Euro 5 Regulations, how in the UK do you get a MOT if the exhaust is non-compliant? should the aftermarket exhaust companies be building exhaust that meet the required regulations, then you would not be getting this issue. Here in NZ we don't have these regulations, but the bikes still arrive with Euro Emission standards.
@@ashleygwilt3313 it’s not the exhaust itself that needs to meet MOT emissions in UK, other than needing to be UK/EU stamped, but basically the emissions are tested at MOT time through exhaust gasses which is largely driven by engine/catalytic converter, the exhaust shown is just the end can. I have had some feedback that the issue has occurred with a fellow rider who still has the standard exhaust fitted and as it it stands at the moment Honda dealerships in UK don’t seem to have a fix for it however time will tell.. mine has done a further 900 miles without coming back on 🤞
Mines doing exactly the same .. different exhaust same problem ..
Has it happened more than once on yours
@@thecampingbiker791yes this is my 3rd time .. comes in after about 130 miles of riding after each reset
@@Mrfish2015 what are the dealership saying about the problem
@@thecampingbiker791o2 sensor .. they flash the ecu to alter the fuelling now I think they’re going down the warranty route .. its in tomorrow I’ll message you after
@@Mrfish2015 appreciate that mate 👍🏻
Your mic is picking up heaps of noise i think you need a fuzzy mic its very hard to hear what you are saying great content though...i live in Asia and have 3700km on my NX and have not have had this issue btw.My dealer did say when you switch the key on and the dash lights up to wait until the full screen is illuminated before you turn the key or you might get the trouble light on.b That way the ECU can do its full engine check before you turn the motor over. I had this problem on my Triumph400X it actually failed to start one time it needed a tow to the dealership due to not waiting for the engine to cycle through its checks.
Might be the settings, but it was particularly windy, thanks for feedback though.. filmed quickly on iPhone without mic attached so made a bit in the hoof really 😊
I’m hoping it’s sorted now but appreciate the tip from your dealer, fingers crossed 🤞
From what it’s saying it must be something related to the exhaust.
I think so, but let’s see how it goes over next few weeks.. I’ll report back either way 👍🏻
Maybe swap to the original exhaust and see if the problem goes away. Personally I prefer not to give the rozzers advance notice that I'm coming!
I’ll see how it goes with being reset and just take it step by step, hopefully sorted 👍🏻
Was it fixed?
@@user-tj9qb1im2k well, so far so good but others have had light come on after about 300 further miles.. mine has done 600 since reboot so only time will tell and I’ll report back at 1000 mile point with update 👍🏻
I got this issue at 2400 km and I am confused as it was unexpected for a new bike. Now I have to go to dealer 100 km away
@@user-tj9qb1im2k ah, not good..do you have an aftermarket exhaust on as well?
@@thecampingbiker791 no options are installed, and that the point…
@@user-tj9qb1im2k that’s a bit worrying as we halve all been assuming it’s an aftermarket exhaust issue!! When is yours going in, I’m obviously waiting to see if light comes on again.. which in truth I’m expecting 😧

@@kramnam4716 something to be said for simplicity, my little secret is an old 2 stroke MZ 250, literally no technology to be messed with 😂
Honda have just under 3yrs to fix this before the bike fails the MOT. It should be sorted well before then. 🤞
@@reuel7544 indeed so 👍🏻
I have a suggestion. Trade it in for a CB500X! Simples 😂
@@stevedriver1376 well, only time will tell 😂
If it’s got a decent ecu it will cope with the exhaust.
Hopefully it’s all sorted but I’ll report back later on, seems one or two others have had similar issues
@@thecampingbiker791 sensor gummed up during break in period maybe..
@@40mosher who knows… Honda dealer didn’t 😂
@@thecampingbiker791 which is slightly worrying.
@@40mosher isn’t it just!! I think they’re just hoping the problem won’t come back 😂
PGM-FI is self diagnostic
What does that actually mean 😬
@@thecampingbiker791 There is a diagnostic port under the seat. By joining the wires in a certain sequence, you can read and clear codes yourself. There is a bridging plug available for the CB500x And I would imagine also for the NC. This fuel injection system has been this way since the 1980's ( Although back then, an LED flashed in sequences on the ECU itself. Where as today the engine management light performs the same task)
@@p.istaker8862 very helpful, thank you 🙏
I think Mrfish maybe has the same problem with his NX500
Ah, does he have aftermarket exhaust on as well
He was talking about fitting a fuel exhaust?
@@stephenparsons5039 okay, I’ll take a look 👍🏻
Dump that exhaust! Problem solved.
Oh and dump that quad lock if you still want your phone camera to work later on. They kill phone cameras.
Time will tell on the exhaust, I’m hoping we’ll never see the light on again.. are the iPhones still getting damaged with the dampener fitted, I thought that had resolved the problems?
@@thecampingbiker791 I had the damper and it screwed the iPhone camera. Tbh I dumped the quad lock for something totally different and glad I did. If your phone is ok then you have done well.
Look at a dyno run charts, you'll not believe how lean these new bikes are....if you want anything to last, sort the fuelling...stupid comment
@@williamrae9954 what’s the point in all this playing around with a good set up from the factory? It leads to other issues and more expense. Farting around with something you don’t understand (you have demonstrated that quite clearly) will only exacerbate his issues.
@@TheFlaneur-up1ft to be honest I don’t mount it very often, indeed rarely, and actually prefer my Garmin sat nav to the phone maps.. I’ll do some more research on the dampener before using again 👍🏻
